They say the course of true love never runs smooth.
That’s nothing a magical cupcake can’t solve.
Julie
Buttercream. Vanilla. Fondant. Dark chocolate. Brown sugar. Molasses. Baking has always been my true love, but it wasn’t until my mother’s death, and the unexpected inheritance of Serendipity Gardens, that my bliss called me. Bittersweet. But Serendipity Gardens has more to offer than just a … more to offer than just a potential shopfront. An unusual recipe box left to me by a distant relative might be the key to unlocking my dreams.
Too bad the most powerful family in Chancellor has plans that could turn those dreams to ruins—literally.
Too bad the son of that powerful family is just the kind of guy I’ve been looking for.
Horatio
I suppose being heir to the Hunter family’s Blushing Grape Winery should make me happy, but nothing could be further from the truth. With my mother gone, my father has taken me under his wing, and I despise everything about the way he does business. Sour grapes, indeed. Instead of raising money for charitable causes, my true passion, I’m chasing my father’s manifest destiny.
Too bad his dream includes paving paradise.
Too bad the property owner is the sweetest woman I’ve ever met.
The Cupcake Witch is a stand-alone sweet romance and book 2 of The Chancellor Fairy Tales series.

I enjoyed returning to the town of Chancellor for Julie and Horatio’s story.
It’s a story about two lovely people who have spent a lot of time pleasing others and living a life they didn’t want. Now they are both presented with a chance to follow their dreams.
I liked the flashbacks of Horatio’s childhood. I felt for his father. Underneath his father’s cold and some what nasty exterior there’s a man who’s hurting immensely.
I loved the towns acceptance of Julie and how they came together to help her out.
Their’s is a fun and sweet romance that leaves you smiling.
3 stars – I liked it
Julie has only one love and that is baking. When she inherits a cute little cottage called Serendipity Gardens she decides it’s time to open a bakery/ tea shop and live her dream. If the local land baron’s son doesn’t ruin it.
This was a very sweet and short story. Julie and Horatio both recently lost their mothers and are struggling to get past the loss. Julie realizes that she needs to follow her dream and inheriting a cottage from a distant relative comes at just the right time. Horatio is struggling to deal with his fathers constant disappointment and anger. Meeting Julie pushes him to confront his father and pursue his true passion.
This is an instant love story so there isn’t a lot of build up in their relationship. I still really enjoyed the book though. Julie and Horatio were cute characters who were brought together at the right times. I also liked the townsfolk a lot. They were quirky and fun.
The narrator, Hollie Jackson, did an amazing job with the narration of this book. Each character had their own voice, as it was, and their emotions were portrayed perfectly. Overall, a good short novella set in Chancellor.

“They say the course of true love never runs smooth. … That’s nothing a magical cupcake can’t solve.”
I was emotionally scarred – but in s good way – by The Glass Mermaid, the first book in Melanie Karsak’s The Chancellor Fairy Tales. Now she’s back with the series’ second book, The Cupcake Witch: A Modern Fairy Tale Romance. I love Julie, the lead character here and this wonderful short tale had me laughing, crying and everything in between. That’s s pretty marvelous thing, in a pretty darn marvelous book. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises – the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
It’s magically delicious
And now that I have the Lucky Charms jingle stuck in my head, let me tell you how sublime this was! My only complaint is that it was over too soon! I love this couple, this town, and this ending. I just want more!
This is a sweet, safe, and bewitching story. It is the story of a woman who inherits a store from her great aunt and in the process finds her purpose. There is a very light sprinkling of supernatural in this story, but it is done is a soft/light way. The story is about the woman: her journey, finding home, love, friendship, and passion. The magic is secondary, plays a supportive roll. I loved the use of cupcakes as the vehicle for her magic, it adds whimsy and sweetness. I will be reading the other books in this series as I want to experience more of this world. Great story, recommended.
