Magic doesn’t wound the same as a sword. The story of Ian Troy continues in Magic-Scars, the second installment in C. L. Schneider’s riveting epic fantasy trilogy, The Crown of Stones. Captured by his old enemy, King Draken of Langor, Shinree magic user Ian Troy was sentenced to prison. Tortured and drugged, robbed of his will, his memories, and his magic, Ian was made to do unspeakable things. … unspeakable things. Rescued, as his body slowly rids itself of the drug, Ian realizes he has returned to an unfamiliar world gripped with fear. In the wake of his fall, those he cared for were left to their own grim fates. Draken has seized control of the realms and named himself High King. His brutal rein has sparked a desperate rebellion that Ian now finds himself a part of. His one task: recover and repair the Crown of Stones, in hopes it will tip the balance in the revolution that is brewing. In pursuit of the reason behind the artifact’s strange loss of magic, Ian is driven to release an explosion of retribution and power that leaves him irrevocably scarred.
Struggling to reconcile the man he has become with the man he once was, Ian strives to understand the growing number of magic-scars adorning his body. He searches for the truth behind his link to the Crown of Stones and uncovers shocking secrets buried for generations beneath the sand. To become the weapon the resistance needs, he must assume responsibility for his magical inheritance. But can he curb the destructive appetite that comes with it?
The price of Ian’s magic and his addiction have never been higher.

A lot if things are definitely going on in these books. I was horrified with some of it. The author doesn’t pull any punches. These books are loaded with strife and desperation. I love reading them. Excellent!
This book finds our beloved in peril which only adds to the nuance of danger and intrigue to the book series. This book carries on a thrill ride of adventure in a fantasy world that only seems too real. A really good book.
A great read about memories. After the events of the last book, Ian was drugged and imprisoned. He is set free and taken to safety but when he wakes up he has no idea who he is. But he must remember, as Kings and enemies grow more powerful and threaten the lives of everyone. Can he find himself again before ti’s too late?
A great read. Well developed plot with twists and turns. Well developed characters like Ian as a brave warrior but also lost and vulnerable underneath. Great cats of supporting characters like the sarcastic but caring Malaq or the distrustful Krillos.
I loved the visual detail throughout the novel like the icy regions at the start with its sense of beauty and danger, wonderfully written. Or with the memories of Kabri with its sand and sea, full of life and people and bright colours so vivid its as if you’re actually there.
A great example of world building with a fantasy world with its own history and geography. I liked the sense of expansion, as the author explores more of the world with seas and ice and mountains, adding things to develop this world further. The first person narrative worked brilliantly to show Ians struggle to find himself again. I also liked the use of suspense, with small details revealed slowly to make you keep on reading to find out what happened. The memories and flashbacks worked well to display what had happened and didn’t disrupt from the narrative of the present. The only issue I would raise is that there were a lot of long sentences that were hard to read which could be reduced with a variety of sentence lengths. Overall, a great read and I would give it four stars.
CL Schneider has quickly become my go to for book with sci-fi and magic details that will promise to keep me enthralled. Normally this isn’t my go to for genres but I can never deny myself the chance to discover the books Schneider puts out.
The Crown of Stones: Magic Scars is book two in The Crown of Stones series from CL Schneider. I would highly recommend that you read the first book, Magic-Price, before diving into this one. Be prepared to be sucked in and have a huge need to get your hands on book three as soon as you can. I sure know I have found my anxiety fully ready for it after this book because I know there is more to the story we didn’t get here that will be in the next novel.
In Magic-Scars we find Ian waking in a strange dark prison and he has zero idea about the basics; who, what, where, and why. The worst of it all is that he has been drugged in order to suppress his magic from being used. The world around him is a disaster and he will struggle to put the pieces together to be able to be whole enough to fight and protect the ones he loves and cares for. This book is vivid and gorgeously written with so much detail you will feel as if you are right there in the novel with Ian. I loved this and felt like I literally sat on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading, all the way till the last page. I am so anxious to read book three!
5 Star
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars (Book 2) by C. L. Schneider is a wonderfully written fantasy book. I’ve been patiently waiting for this installment of this Trilogy and to say I wasn’t disappointed is an understatement. I found myself lost in the pages and couldn’t stop reading till the end. I had to know what happens next. This story is the continuation of the first Book. Isn’t wakes up after being in prison for two years and has no clue who he is ,where is or even what is going on. He’s been tortured and drugged to keep his magic suppressed. Ian is really struggling to put his life back together and pick up the pieces ,he’s not the same man he was before. He’s there only hope but he has no memory from amnesia and the Crown is broken. Find out what happens next in this absolute must read. I can’t wait to dive into the next Book in this series.
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars (Book 2) by C. L. Schneider was a great continuation of Troy’s story. The world that was created in the first book was expanded. The attention to detail continued and it helped me keep everything straight. The emotional rollercoaster made this a well worth it read. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book!
Magic Scars is an excellent follow-up to Magic Price. The story is faster paced now that we have an established world. I love this author’s writing style and descriptive word choice, though there were again some words that didn’t quite fit. I’m rooting for Ian Troy, and am sad for how he’s been used. Very interested to see how he deals with all that’s happened and where his storyline goes in the final book.
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars by C. L. Schneider. This story transports readers to an adventure in fantasy that you won’t soon forget. This is the second book and I do recommend you reading them in order. This book was just as good as the first, we’re taken on more of a journey with Ian. This book packs quite the punch with its smooth storyline and well developed characters. The authors writing style is clear and well detailed. It’s hard not to get lost in this story. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking anything. I’m excited to see where the author takes readers next. Four stars and highly recommended.
Schneider has done it again! Magic Scars (sequel in The Crown Of Stone series) was everything a sequel should be. Sarcasm, shock, tons of fighting, and plenty of magic, it lives up to the first book in plenty of ways! I could hardly put the sequel down, and I can’t wait to read the third book! This second book of the series is one that will keep you feeling, and dying to find out what happens to Troy on his journey with the Crown of Stones.
Once Again, C.L. Schneider has done it again in the continuation of Ian Troy’s story. I like how it didn’t immediately pick up where the last book was left off, but that only made me starving to know just what happened, and was trying to put the pieces together just as Ian himself was. I have to say it’s not often that a sequel is as good as it’s first book, but this one took the crown home. With her World Building, descriptions, and attention to detail and not afraid to be graphic some times, This was just as brilliant of a take on the fantasy genre as her first one. I am eager to see how it all concludes in the third and final book, which I am about to start reading the second I finish this review. I recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy and even to those who usually aren’t fantasy folks, you need to give this one a try.
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars by CL Schneider is the second book in a fantastic series. The story of Ian Troy continues as more memories come back to him. He is trying to figure out his past so he can understand his future. The world they live in is very uncertain and dangerous. How will he work this all out?
The characters are very well written and guide the reader through a great story. I recommend reading these books in order because each book builds on the next. I have enjoyed many reads from this author and this did not disappoint.
This is the second book in the series.
In this story we follow Ian Troy with his journey from being captured and drugged, to finding his way back to the man he once was.
Along the way he delivers some retribution which leaves his skin marked. Why this happens no one knows but they search to find out.
To become the person the resistance need him to be he needs to be able to use his magic and control his addiction. The risk of him not being able to do that are too high.
Its an amazing second book to the series and i cant wait to read the third.
5 stars
This is book 2 of The Crown of Stones series so if you’re looking for the first one go to Magic Price.
Book 2 starts right where book 1 left off. Ian was imprisoned and put on kayn’l a drug made for the Shinree to keep them mindless and powerless. He’s forced to do horrible things that he would never do and now that he’s been rescued and is coming off the drug he is slowly regaining his memories before he was captured and even some during his imprisonment.
With him regaining his memories and returning to the real world he finds everything has changed. Draken has named himself High King and rules with fear. During these desperate times a rebellion forms and Ian finds himself apart of it.
With the crown of stones strangely missing it’s magic Ian is tasked with finding why and how to restore it with hopes of using it to help the rebellion and to bring down Draken.
I loved this book just as much as book one, the world and character building are very well done. The book pulls you in so much that you take the characters place so the struggles the characters face every step of the way, you face them too. Its full of adventure and emotion tugging moments. It’s such a great story, and I am so ready to dive in to book 3.
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars is the second book in “The Crown of Stones” trilogy and I highly recommend reading this series in order.
As with Magic-Price, this tale is told in the first person narrative and is full of action. I’m so grateful that I am reading these stories after the entire trilogy has been published. I can’t imagine having to wait for the next to be released.
The story is almost told from a moralistic point of view. Decisions that are made ALWAYS have consequences. When a faction suppresses natural “order” sometimes the price that must be paid is higher than the results initially gained. Manipulation of societies is NEVER a good idea and perhaps folks in today’s socio-economical environment could learn a thing or two from reading this fictional account of good vs evil. – I digress…
As an arch from book 1 to book 3 the story flows forward and the protagonist has some growth that was good to see. This is a fast paced adventurous tale that I did skim a little bit. There were times when things felt a little repetitive, but that is to be expected I think.
Onto book 3…
The second installment into the continuing journey of Ian Troy did not disappoint. The epic adventure just keeps getting better. C.L. Schneider built a dynamic world and I really enjoyed immersing myself in it. The trials and triumphs of Ian Troy and his fellow travelers endured were both exhilarating and at times sad. This epic adventure was a great continuation of Ian Troy’s story and C.L. Schneider’s dynamic world. I look forward to the final installment.
I have gotten lost in this world and didn’t want to re-emerge. The continued tale of Ian Troy was jam packed with imagery and detail, good vs evil, an amazing fantasy world. Schneider has done an incredible job with this series. I’ve loved every page and can’t wait to read more from this author.
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars is the second book in The Crown of Stones series. It picks up two years after the events of book one.
I have to say that I have loved every book I’ve read by this author and this one holds up to the rest of them. The world building is superb. And, while it can slow the story down a bit sometimes, I love the attention to detail. When you are reading this story, you get lost in the adventure and feel like you are living alongside the characters.
This is definitely a page turner. You will find yourself losing sleep just to find out what happens next as the story takes you on an emotional roller coaster full of twists and turns.
Magic-Scars is the second book in The Crown of Stones trilogy by C.L. Schneider. I highly recommend reading the first book Magic-Price. That story will fill in the gaps so you have a better understanding of Ian Troy’s story. Schneider effortlessly continues the story with Ian. As the story goes on I am falling in love with Ian. His character has been through so much that I was feeling sorry for him. With everything he went through his magic addiction, in this story he is a prisoner for King Draken of Langor again. He is hopeless and his spirit is broken. He is trying to gain his momentum again. Will Ian get away from King Draken? Will he be able to assume his magic? What will happen to Ian? Keep reading to find out about what happens next to Ian.
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars (Book 2) by C. L. Schneider
5-Stars
The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars (Book 2) by C. L. Schneider is an amazing addition to this series. It is a continuation of the storyline that begins in book one and cannot be read as a standalone. Ian, Jarryd, Malaq, and many other characters are back in this exciting novel. The story was full of action, magic, friendship, and loyalty. Ian has no memory at the start of this book which made a huge difference in his character compared to the first novel. Things change as the storyline moves along though. I felt that the author did an excellent job pulling me in for an amazing climax with this story. Its length may seem daunting to some readers but so much is covered! I highly recommend it! It is so good and may be my favorite of the series.
If you read Crown of Stones Magic Price then I know you are in line for this one. The Crown of Stones Magic Scars by C. L. Schneider was a stellar encounter. I was blown away by Magic Price but this second book in the trilogy has me hooked for good. The nearly unbearable guilt that Ian Troy has been burdened with sees a new direction in Magic Scars. You can see the struggles that our own society is going through in the pages of this book. To see a thing and know that it is good and feel such sorrow because others can’t or won’t see it. There are a few steamy scenes that may be uncomfortable but this is a story you must read. You have my word you will not be disappointed.
