In this middle grade novel in verse that’s Love That Dog meets The Watsons Go to Birmingham meets Slam, twelve-year-old twin basketball stars Josh and Jordan wrestle with highs and lows on and off the court as their father ignores his declining health.
I really like the flow of this book and how its writen. It took me 2 days to ready and it was unpredictable to guess what was going to happen.
I’ve read this Newbery Medal winning, poetic novel before but this is my first time with the audiobook, which came highly recommended. It’s read by Corey Allen. The rhythm in the poetry really came alive when read aloud. I also don’t like basketball or rap but love this book. Booked is great also. I hear Alexander has a prequel in the works.
I love how this story is written in verse.
it adds a whole new kind of thing to it.
This book is a gem! Kwame Alexander has written a book that won not only a Newbery Award but also a Coretta Scott King Award. Written in verse, the book tells the story of two basketball phenom brothers- Josh and Jordan. The twins are sons of a former basketball legend. The prose is exiting and powerful as it examines the bond of brothers set …
An inspiring story about the 12-year-old Josh Bell. This story discusses interesting topics, and reads like a train due to its clever pace and flow.

i just finished this book! It is so good!
I want to hug Kwame’s brain. (With permission, of course.)
His writing is lyrical. Honest. Warm. Uncomfortable. Show-not-tell. Everything.
He’s getting me and you and our kids and those kids over there to read poetry without even realizing it by picking up his glorious books, and I am grateful for that.
12yo Josh and Jordan are twin brothers …
Josh Bell has a great life- he loves playing basketball, hanging out with his twin brother, and has great parents. As he begins to grow older, his life begins to change and troubles begin to emerge. Usually I am not a fan of verse novels, but this one seemed perfect. The verses were compact with meaning and almost had the cadence of a rap song. …
