Four years into Akhenaten’s new regime, the dissatisfaction of those who practiced the old religion of Amen-Ra is growing. Hani, a diplomat already under the king’s surveillance because of the disappearance of his firebrand Amen priest brother-in-law, gets drawn into an investigation for the Beloved Royal Wife, who is being blackmailed. Meanwhile, the new vassal king of A’amu, lodged at Hani’s … house until the king grants him an audience, is showing himself to be none too loyal. Hani must walk the line between his oath to the king and his conscience.

This story follows Hani, a diplomat who is pulled into an investigation of the Queen. Hani’s conscience had forced him to leave the diplomatic corps as he no longer respected the foreign policies. When Hani’s brother-in-law goes missing, Hani needs to find out what has happened. This is the second book in the series – the first one being Bird in a Snare – an equally enthralling read. The scene is set in ancient Egypt – with very descriptive scenes and maps included! The amount of detail in the scenes and the extremely well written characters allows you to envision the goings on while reading.
Definitely a great read!! The author obviously knows their stuff when it comes to ancient Egypt, and I’m all for it. This book got my attention from the beginning and took me on a ride. I really need to learn not to start new books before bed. I guess I’ll just never learn.

The Crocodile Makes No Sound is the second book in The Lord Hani Mysteries by N.L Holmes. This is another cosy, historical mystery set in ancient Egypt.
We met Hani, a diplomat, in the first book- and team up with him once more as this mystery plays out. With blackmail, politics, religion, and mystery all woven together, it makes for an interesting read. We are transported to the time of Akhenaten- which the author does a brilliant job of recreating and bringing to life.
As with the first book in the series, the author’s knowledge and passion for the period really shines through in the story and through her writing. This passion certainly added to the ‘richness’ of the story.
Looking forward to seeing what Hani gets up to in Book Three!
Thank you, N.L Holmes!
I love a hero who can stand in his truth more than an allegiance to what they’re more responsible to do by nature. In this one, a lot is going on as we follow our lead hero in making a lot of tough decisions to ensure the safety of what’s right around him. This one is not only a race against time but a sway in the right direction for everyone as a whole.
This is the second book in this series which I enjoyed just as much if not more than the first. This is a well developed story that has characters that make you feel part of the story. They made it easy to read and kept it engaging. I had no issues connecting with them as they kept me turning pages. There is alot going on in this story but the author did a great job of not making it confusing. The details are written in a way that made you want to know more and wanting to see what would happen next. This is not normally a book that I would read but it made a great afternoon read. I am glad I picked it up and so will you. If you have not read book one I highly suggest you do. I highly recommend this book.
