Deep in the swamps of the Louisiana bayou, a horrifying secret lies waiting to be discovered.A legend haunts the bayou, a chilling tale of a beast that is born from a curse…the Rougarou. When Emma Rose Crane lets hunter Cass Willow convince her to help him on a ghost hunt, she never imagined she’d be trudging through the swamps, let alone stumbling upon a mess of mangled bodies—or running into the … bodies—or running into the creature responsible for the rotting remains.
With no backup available to them, she’s forced to show Cass her demonic side to help them escape, but that’s not the only problem. When the creature attacked them, it infected them with the same curse that drove it mad. There’s only one hope—kill the beast to cure the infection.
Time is not on their side as they race to save themselves and discover the truth behind the legend. But first they have to survive the effects of the curse long enough to find the creature and put it down…
Before they succumb to the hunger eating them alive.

I loved this second book to the Crane Diaries. I loved the first book in this series, and I was not disappointed by the second. Dan and Mattie are the perfect balance.
I can’t wait for more in this series. I love that the story is so different then most, I never know what is going to happen. I loved it.
From “Ghost Files” to “The Crane Diaries”…amazing reads. This book which is book two of the latter is quite a page turner. The growth and development of the characters over the series is amazing. Apryl has taken a lost and broken child and turned her into a semi-confident and maturing adult. We get to learn more of who and what Mattie is and becoming. Bring on book III. I so cannot wait.
This book shows a different side of Mattie. She’s not only growing up, but she’s growing in her power’s as well.
Facing off with a rougarou is something I never thought I’d see Mattie do, but never underestimate a girl who has a unique heritage. She’s more awesome than she seems.
I love the fact that Apryl Baker is taking Mattie into adulthood. You can’t expect her to stay a kid forever. And it can help this series move into different directions
With each book that we see another one of Emma’s “adventures” and a little bit more of her growing up and growing into her powers I get more and more excited to see ehat shell manage to stumble upon next. Its been such a great ride to learn eith Emma about who she is and what she can do.
Emma/Mattie has had a trying life. Being Stabbed near to death by her “mother” at a young age left her able to see the dead. Her purpose in life is to be their guiding light to the otherside, but she has so many other powers that are only just now developing and she is having to lesrn as she goes. Unfortunately for Emma ghosts arent the only supernatural thing that actually exists.
In the swamps of the bayou helping out a friend Emma runs into a Rougarou, a curse that has alresdy killed to many and if Emma doesnt stop it she and Cass willl be next. This time Emma will need to call in reinforcements from the beginning because shes in way over her head.
This is one of my favorite series. Apryl Baker is such a great writer and her characters are so easy to relate to and seem like real people. I love the progression and growth of Matty/Emma through the series and I’m glad to see her journey continue to take shape as SHE wants it to. So many books have their character remain the same, even after so many life changing events – but Apryl keeps her people true and shows how they adapt to their circumstances. They’re the same characters we love, but so much MORE.
“For once, all in my life is right.
Even if it only lasts for a night.”
I can not wait to see where the story goes from here! I am so into Mattie/Emmas’ life. From Ghost Files book one to now, I am so invested.
How are things going to work out with Dan? Will there be any other love interests? What about Nathaniel? Can he be trusted? Will we find out more about this possible God in the background? Then there is Eric.. will he follow his previous wants, or his new bodies desires? Will things ever be really great for Mary? Will she and Caleb find what the once had?
And so many more questions!
Will we get to be a part of Mattie/Emmas’ entire life? I am ready for the next book now.
Sometimes when a book gets to a certain number, it gets stagnate. The books all start to sound the same. I can truly say I have not felt that, not once with these books. Each one sees the characters grow, mature, and change in enough ways that I only want to know more.
Sign me up, I am a lifer!
In the second book of the Crane Diaries series, Mattie Hathaway is still trying to re-invent and accept herself as Emma Rose Crane. For someone who doesn’t like being “the ghost girl” moving to New Orleans to be with her new-found family might not have been such a good idea; the supernatural abounds in the city and Emma is quickly caught up in a world that she is woefully under-prepared for. Attempting to help a friend on a supernatural hunt, Emma is attacked by a werewolf-like creature called a rougarou and cursed with its ravenous hunger. Now she has only a few days to find a cure for the deadly curse …
Mattie Hathaway, aka Emma Rose Crane is growing up. She is attending college in New Orleans with her best friend and her sister, while trying to catching up with a family she never knew she had. After she went toe to toe with the fallen angel and shattering her soul she just want a quite life to process everything. However New Orleans is brimming with the supernatural, and she is tossed in blindfolded.
She wants to get to know her new self, without overwhelming Dan so she dampens their soul bond, this puts her in jeopardy.
This is the first step in an all new Mattie. I would enthusiastically recommend this book. It has everything a great book should, it flows nicely. The plot is extremely well thought out. The character are so easy to visualize, you would think they are part of you life forever.

Our little Mattie Hathaway is growing up. This is the second book of the second series following our ghost girl’s life. The story line is progressing perfectly. It still captures the attention, sucks you in and keeps ypu there till ypuve finished the whole book in one sitting. I will recommend this latest addition to one of my favorite series to all the readers I know. Keep it up Apryl, I can’t wait to read what happens next!
Apryl Baker doesn’t disappoint with The Crane Diaries: Dirty Blood. Emma (aka Mattie) is grown up now and making her own way in the world. She has new friends in the supernatural community and is a valuable asset to the local hunters. While out on a hunt, Emma and her new friend Cass run across a Rougarou, a cursed werewolf like beast that attacks them both, transferring his own curse of unceasing hunger and a bitter death at the end of the moon cycle. Emma must rely on the help of Dan, her old friends, and newfound family members to help her track down the person who transferred the curse of the rougarou, kill him and save herself and Cass before it’s too late.
A must read, love the way maddie and Dan relationship is starting to grow, absolutely can’t wait to see what happens between the siblings. The way the creature was described was perfect but broke my heart for maddie having to see what was done to the family. Must read, couldn’t put it down and CAB NOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ONE!
I absolutely love this series. I love learning about Mattie’s new family and her new life. This book was extremely difficult to put down. I would definitely recommend reading these books.
I’ve followed these characters from one series to another. How they’ve evolved and grown is so great!
Get this book, you will love it! Ghost Files is the previous series, check it out!
Totally Loved Mattie/Emma in this book. She is starting to grow up and her maturity is showing. I wasn’t sure these books would be as good as the Ghost Files. But, I believe they are a lot better! I can’t wait to see what is next up for Mattie/Emma, Dan and the gang.
This series just keeps getting better and better no lie. I am so addicted. And I’m totally not ashamed to admit it either haha. I love Emma Rose’s aka Mattie’s story! She keeps growing as a character and keeps becoming stronger and stronger as well. So many surprises and so much action. I love everything about this story. I can’t wait for more! I need to know what happens next. I highly highly recommend this series as a must read as well as any other works by Apryl Baker. She is such an amazing writer story teller!!! You will be hooked as well once you start reading. Also i wanted to say I love how Emma’s relationship with Dan is finally taking it up to another level… I don’t mind more of a steamy read haha. Either way, it doesn’t change how i feel about the story as a whole. It’s AWESOME!
This book is one of the best books I’ve ever read ,I absolutely love it. Apryl Baker is such an amazing author.I have to say well done to her.I really think anyone and everyone should read this book and you will fall in love with every character.
I love this series but mostly I fell in love with Mattie. I love that we were able to grow up with her. The fact that th auther details everything so that you feel as though you are in the story side by side with Mattie experiencing everything right along side her. It had me hooked with the first book but now after this I’m an addict, I can’t imagine anyone reading this and not being hooked.
Emma sure does know how to get into trouble. Poor girl can’t help but find it no matter where she goes. While searching for a ghost, Emma and Cass encounter a Rougarou becoming cursed themselves. Now it’s a race against time to find the beast and kill it before the curse kills them. Living in New Orleans can be hazardous to a girls health.
Such a great series! This book is a must read! Watching Mattie and the other characters grow throughout the Ghost Files and now the Crane Diaries is exciting and constantly leaving you wanting more. Apryl Baker has done a fantastic job of making the readers feel like they are a part of the story and emotionally involved in what happens! I can’t wait to see what’s next!
