THE COWBOY’S TWIN SURPRISE by Stephanie Dees is the wonderful story of Devin Cole and Lacey Jenkins. It’s the story of each having their own tragic past to overcome and the wonderful ties that bind them together.
Devin Cole is a retired rodeo star. Something he’d strived his whole life toward. Working, even after major injury, to achieve a better time and more awards while dulling the pain of the past and present with becoming addicted to pain killers and alcohol.
Lacey Jenkins is a champion barrel racer with baggage from the past of her own. Maybe the race wasn’t with the barrels but from her past. She fell for Devin from the first time she looked into his eyes and heard his pickup line. They became great friends, always there for each other. Then one crazy night in Vegas, they let their feelings soar and ended up married.
Due to his addiction and the mixture of pain medication and alcohol, Devin had woke up the next morning not remembering that he was married but thinking he had ruined his relationship with Lacey over one nights passion. That is when he realized he HAD to get help. Hoping to apologize in some small way, he left her his treasured horse, Reggie, and checked himself into rehab. It was during rehab that he figured out that he not only had to get his life back on track, but he had a lot of broken promises and disappointed people to make amends to – if they will give him his umpteen second chance. After rehab, he heads home hoping the door was still open to him.
Lacey’s world is shattered when she wakes up to find Devin gone. She’s been abandoned AGAIN. Then she finds out not only is she pregnant, but she’s having twins. A couple months later, determined to set her life straight, she heads to Alabama to confront Devon and get divorce papers signed. She can raise these babies on her own.
After Lacey arrives at Devon’s family farm and Devon find out he’s not only married but about to have two children, Devon tells Lacey that he will sign the papers IF she will stay until after the babies are born if she still wants the divorce. Given that the doctor had recommended that she not travel due to the twins, she finally agrees. The decision is good for them both. He gets a chance to show her how sorry he was for what he did and it gives him the second chance he so desperately wanted. She would get the proper rest needed to have healthy babies while getting to know the real Devin.
Can they both get through the pain of their past? Can Devin prove to Lacey that he’s in for the long haul and won’t be going anywhere? Can Lacey forgive his leaving without a word and trust his words now? Can they find their happily ever after? Will waiting for two little babies to be born be the time that allows them to bond as husband and wife for real?
THE COWBOY’S TWIN SURPRISE is a fabulous, well-written Christian romance. It will have you looking forward to Lacey’s forgiveness as much as Devin is. It will show you that when God is in the middle of it all that only good can come about. Although Lacey may have been the catalyst that send Devin to rehab, it was his faith that kept him there and the promise of better things to come if we have a humble heart and ask for forgiveness.
Highly recommend THE COWBOY’S TWIN SURPRISE as well as this author! I loved it and I’m sure you will too. I can’t wait to see what she will come up for Garrett and Tanner’s stories, the other Cole brothers.
‘Strength doesn’t come from doing what you already know you can do. Real strength comes from overcoming things you never thought you could.’
Stephanie Dees is a new-to-me-author, but I will definitely read her again. This is a very precious story of overcoming against all odds and shows what and demonstrates what God will do when a person makes up their mind that they are going to stand firm. And also that fear can be overcome with God’s help and the support of the one we love. I truly enjoyed this book. Recommended.
This is the 2nd book I read by Stephanie Dees. I enjoyed this book’s storyline. Some parts of this story was sad . I really liked the Christian theme in this story. I really liked Lacey’s character. I felt sorry for Lacey. I really liked Devin’s character. I felt sorry for Devin. I really liked the ending.
“My dad used to say strength doesn’t come from doing what you already know you can do. Real strength comes from overcoming things you never thought you could.~Devin”
WOWIE….this one sucker-punched me!!! Younger brother Devin left the ranch to make his way in the world as a bronc rider, only to return years later, broken down with a boatload of regret for his foolish past. Older brother Tanner reluctantly takes him in, on conditions of course, and Devin sets out to prove himself a changed man & trustworthy. Only to be confronted with Lacey, his wife he doesn’t remember marrying and who’s also pregnant with twins. Talk about getting smacked with a dose of wake-up reality!
Yep, this was one of the best books I’ve read recently. I’m a huge fan of redemption themed stories and this ticked every one of my boxes. You have a broken down hero–literally & figuratively–a heroine who’s looking for answers, and a future to figure out, either together or apart. It also reminds me of the prodigal son story in scripture, one where God forgives, changes a heart, and makes a new man from the brokenness of a sinful past. Saying I loved it doesn’t properly convey how good this is!! It contains so many emotional parts, both ones that made me laugh & cry, and those tender-hearted ones that made me blissfully sigh. My first Dees story but it won’t be my last because I have two more brothers to get to know; Tanner and Garrett. The author really knows how to tug at my heartstrings!
Oh, this book was SO GOOD!!! It had all the feels! I really liked these two main characters, who started out as friends and ended up in a quickie marriage that resulted in twin babies.
Lacey and Devin both had things from their past that they had to confront and overcome in order to even begin to have a chance at making their marriage work. I appreciated the fact that these two people could recognize their feelings for each other, realize that they wanted to do what was best for their children, yet also take the time to determine what the best was going to be.
This story was a great beginning to a new series, brought in a couple of side characters from another series that I loved, and makes me really look forward to reading the next book when it releases.
