Ian Grant isn’t a man who accepts help easily. After promising his young son that he could participate in the strawberry festival, and then missing the admittance deadline, Ian’s in a bind and forced to ask the mayor for a favor. The mayor agrees, on one condition: his niece has run into hard times and needs a safe place to stay: Ian’s place to stay. She’s great with kids and Ian needs someone to … needs someone to look after his rambunctious son Andy while he ranches. Ian agrees, expecting some college-aged girl who’d flunked Algebra. Instead, he finds a full-grown woman—a beautiful and sassy one to boot.
Katie Rylie has always dreamed of helping others by teaching them to cook. Her online persona was thriving—until a scandal with her forthcoming cookbook rocked her career. Not only did she have to pay back the entire advance, but her once-loyal fan base has turned against her. Defeated and with nowhere to go, Katie feels it’s better to hide out in the country until she can get her life back together. The offer of a free home, an open range, and a wily six-year-old to focus on sounds like just the escape she needs.
When Andy’s diet restrictions force Katie to become creative in the kitchen, she finds herself drawn back into the food world, just as she’s falling in love with Ian and Andy. But Ian, who likes having control of everything, doesn’t know how to ask Katie to become a permanent part of their lives.
If their love is ever going to work, Ian and Katie will need to learn that having it all doesn’t mean giving anything up.

Ian is a cowboy, widower and single dad. His son Andy has many food allergies that frequently land him in the hospital. Andy wants to participate in the Strawberry Festival and Ian has to call in a favor with the mayor. The mayor needs somewhere for his niece to go. Katie’s a disgraced chef well versed in healthy eating. Perfect match for Andy. She includes the boy in cooking preparations for the festival and he just excels. Ian watches the love she shows the boy and his frozen heart starts to melt. Sweet with a bit of spice thrown in! Nicely written and a heartwarming story.

Taking care of the Grant Ranch, left to him after the crash that killed both of his parents, was Ian’s primary concern with the hot weather that could bring drought or fires. Instead, he was standing at the courthouse, debating asking a favor of Mayor Clark. Ian’s son, Andy, had been sick in the hospital for 3 weeks and Ian was completely distracted to the point he forgot to sign Andy up for the strawberry festival he had promised he could help with. The Mayor said he would take care of it, since there was one slot left in the cooking area. In return, the Mayor said he head Ian’s housekeeper had retired and he had a favor to ask too. His niece, Katie Rylie, fell on hard times and needed a job. She could stay at Ian’s ranch, cook, and help out with Andy. Ian figured he now owed the Mayor this favor, so he agreed.
Expecting a young college girl or a screwed up teenager, Ian is not prepared to meet the full-grown woman cooking in his kitchen! He startled her and she dropped the bowl she was mixing. Before it could shatter on the floor, he slid under it and caught it. He started to tell her about Andy’s food allergies and was a bit angry when she interrupted to say she already went over everything with his old housekeeper. He wanted to argue with her, but she had the information correct. And his stomach rumbled at the smell of the food. So he just walked out without a word and went to shower.
The TV was on and he stopped dead when he saw Katie Rylie’s picture. The news people were talking about her plagiarism as she was ready to publish her cookbook. He was furious. He did not want a thief in his house! He raced into the kitchen, but Andy was home, helping Katie cook and laughing with her. The two had definitely bonded and talked excitedly to her all through dinner. She notice that Andy and his dad hardly talked at all. She was going to do what she could to help them reconnect. And as she put Andy to bed, he told her he thought she should stay with them, that it would be the best thing. She sort of agreed with him on that!
Wanting to be totally honest, Katie waited for Ian to come back in from the barn. She asked to talk to him and told him about her plagiarism. He didn’t comment, but they walked up to their rooms. She was thinking hard and, when he stopped, she walked right into his back. He pointed to her room and went into his. She wasn’t going to stay here, so she needed to stop thinking of him any other way.
This is such a cute story as the three of them bond into a family. But Ian doesn’t know how to ask her to stay. Will he let her walk away? The story line is good and steady, just the right pace for healing and seeing the good in others you care for. The characters are likable – though sometimes frustrating. Grab your copy and enjoy this emotional story that reaffirms we are all in the world to help each other. . . and sometimes we can stay.
The Cowboy’s Surprise Nanny by Leslie North. New series from very talented author featuring the Grant brothers. I thought the plot was well written and the characters worked well together. I enjoyed the author’s attention to detail and dual POV story telling.

Leslie North never disappoints. Katie needs a job, Ian needs a nanny. Katie takes to his little boy right away and they bond quickly. The little boy (Andy) wants her to stay forever. A misunderstanding tears them apart, but Katie has promised to come back for a contest Andy has entered. This story had a few misunderstandings, a beginning of a romance and an hea. Good story

I loved Ian and Katie’s story. A stubborn and cowboy, Ian was still struggling after the death of his wife and his son’s health issues. Some of those issues included having several food allergies. This hit home for me because I have a son with food allergies (a lot more than Andy) and it’s a real fear as parents that our kids will have a reaction and be hospitalized. Any little mistake can be life threatening. Katie was exactly what they needed and their steamy scene was downright hot. I can’t wait to see what else is in store in this series.

This is the type of story I’ve come to expect when I read titles by Leslie North. There’s a strong and complex emotional connection between the characters and nothing is a s simple as it appears. Ian was hit hard by his wife’s death and he and his son still haven’t recovered from that loss. Katie’s escaping a scandal of her own making and she’s not sure what her next steps forward should be. She just wants her life back and looking after the Grant men might be the first step in getting there. Together, Katie and Ian are little like oil and vinegar – it’s not an easy match but they become something more with each other than separately. And Andy’s just the cutest thing ever. His is already a difficult life and it’s only barely begun. I can’t wait to read more about this town and it’s quirky residents.

True life characters with real life issues all set on a ranch in a small town makes for a really good romance. Ian, the brooding single dad cowboy and his six year old son Andy have lost their way together because of some difficult times since Loddie, wife and mother died. Katie whose is from the city has her own problems and Ian begrudingly offers to help her get back on track. Their attraction is obvious but, at a slow simmer. They make a cute unit, Ian doing his ranching and supporting Andy and Katie. Katie helping Andy with his cooking competition and scouting. And, Andy getting back to being a happy and engaged young boy. Of course, everything can’t go as smoothly as we would like because Katie’s old life creeps back into this new found happier life and causes some major concerns. This is well worth reading to see this adorable trio have a happily ever after ending.

Ian lost his wife two years ago to cancer. His son Andy is allergic too a lot of things. Katie is a food blogger who got herself in trouble when she plagiarized a recipe for a cook book she has a deal to publish. She ends up as the cook and nanny on Ian’s ranch. They’re attracted to each other but Katie isn’t planning on staying. She hoping to get things back to the way they were and get back to the big city. I enjoyed this book
I loved this book – I read all of Leslie North’s books that I can. Ian’s wife died, his young son has health issues due to serious food allergies, and he has trouble dealing with the boy. Katie’s life as a professional chef is in a shambles due to a lapse in judgment. They’re thrown together in a situation the neither of them want. She’s trying so hard, but it’s really difficult for Ian to learn to trust her. Lust, and then love, begin to grow between them. There are a few speed bumps along the way, but both of them finally realize how much they mean to each other.

I liked this emotional romance. I felt that the plot was fun, the characters likable and the chemisty smoky. I liked Ian and Katie as a couple and I thought that Ian’s son Andy was adorable. The story offered an entertaining blend of sweetness, drama and cuteness. A very enjoyable romance.
