Heroes aren’t supposed to drive beat-up old trucks, and they don’t go around breaking a girl’s heart. But Garrett Grayson, Macy Joyce’s particular hero, does both of those things. Well, Macy doesn’t need a hero, just a little bit of help around her ranch. Someone to figure out who’s been cutting fences and throwing rocks through her windows. Garrett, who’s on leave from the Army, can certainly … handle the job. But can Macy handle the way her pulse quickens every time she sees him? Can she handle the way her six-year-old son is starting to look at this man who’s lived in her heart since high school? Can she handle it when Garrett leaves—which she knows he will?
As far as Garrett is concerned, the only good thing he’s ever done for Macy is leave her behind. He never did deserve a girl like her. But when Macy’s brother—and Garrett’s former best friend—calls and asks him to help protect her, Garrett agrees, knowing it’s only for a short time. Surely he can work on the ranch without getting involved with her. Ever since his misspent youth, Garrett’s been trying to redeem himself, to show everyone in the little town of Heartstring that he’s not the troublemaker he once was. Breaking Macy’s heart again will just prove he hasn’t changed a bit. So he’s going to stay away from her. He’ll just ignore the way his heart feels too big in his chest whenever he sees her, or how she’s grown into a gorgeous, sexy woman. He won’t let his feelings show. No matter what.
Problem is, he hadn’t counted on how tough it would be to walk away—again—from the only girl he’d ever loved.

Protecting His Cowgirl is a great romance. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
:Macy is having all kinds of vandalism on the ranch and her brother calls his best friend, Garrett to protect her. He is on leave from the Army and the time he will be around is limited. They have a heartbreaking history and she doesn’t want him around. He develops a loving bond with her young son. She doesn’t know he was blackmailed, by her father, to leave her alone. The longer he is on the ranch, her walls are starting to crumble. There is a lot of drama with the vandals and he is right there with her. It’s a nicely written and enjoyable second chance to relive part of your life.

I highly recommend this book. It has wonderful characters and the plot kept me reading. I wanted to find out who was sabotaging the ranch and stop them. The hero was troubled and so was the heroine, but together they could fight and protect every thing that was dear to them including her son. This is a well written story.

I really enjoyed Garrett and Macy’s story. It was well written with great characters that were well developed and realistic. The story had misunderstandings, lies, secrets, anger, grief, feelings of betrayal and love. A great contemporary western romance that kept me engaged from beginning to end.

Great story about renewed love between Garrett and Macy which won’t be easy. She doesn’t know why he left all those years ago. Now Macy is a single mom and someone is sabatoging her ranch, and Garrett is back in town and finds out she’s having problems from her brother. Needless to say Macy is happy is an understatement. HEA
this is reading as it’s meant to be – Entertainment with a capital. This is not the first book from this author that I’ve read but it will certainly not be the last

It’s only temporary.
Garrett Grayson has changed from the A he used to be ten years ago as a teenager. He joined the military and returns to Heartstring to atone and try and work through his guilt. He broke Macy’s heart and ended his friendship with her brother Duncan.
Now, he’s tasked with helping her.
Macy is a hard working single mom running her ranch Pride and Joyce but there’s sabotage and trouble on the farm.
Can Garrett atone for his past mistakes and will Macy give him yet another chance?
Cuz he’s only in town for twelve days.
Well done second chance read.
I really loved Garrett.
Recommend.

I enjoyed Garrett and Macy’s second chance story. I liked that Macy was a single mom taking care of her ranch. I am glad that Garrett was able to help her when things happen on her ranch. I liked both these characters and Macy’s son. This was a good read with plenty to keep my interest the whole time.

Macy and Garrett have the opportunity to fix a relationship that had turned sour. Macy is having a spate of bad luck on her farm. Garrett is home on leave and doing his best to atone for his teenage mistakes. When these two are thrown together again it stirs up all the feelings they previously had for each other. This is an exciting romance family tale. With the addition of little Trey, the story becomes full of life and energy. I love that the author pays special attention to all the dialogue involving Trey because it enhances the family dynamic. It is also a great story about second chances and community.
Garrett is home in Heartstring on leave from the Army. He’s trying to help out around town, but he’s running out of things to do. He and Duncan were best friends for years, but a falling out pulled them apart. Duncan’s sister is having trouble with vandalism on her ranch, and he reaches out to Garrett for help. Garrett had family problems, and he was a delinquent. He was in love with Macy, and she with him. Until he left and broke her heart so badly that she still hasn’t forgiven him. She wants to hate him, but her little boy has fallen in love with him. But he’ll be leaving soon, and she can’t give him her heart again. I loved reading Garrett and Macy’s story, and following their journey to happiness. Aside from the romance, there is action and mystery with her ranch issues. And a dog named Biscuit – just too cute!

A second chance and redemption
Protecting His Cowgirl by Mary Sue Jackson is a very well written second chance romance. This book has two elements that I especially love in romance; second chances and wounded heroes, especially honorable and loyal military men. Garrett will pull your heartstrings, he has such a big heart. Macy, with her family’s ranch in her blood is hard working, loyal and as much of a sweetheart as she is a firecracker. While fiercely independent, she’s also finding that relying on someone isn’t such an awful thing.
Since second chances are a favorite of mine, I really enjoyed this story’s plot and how the author took these two characters through their emotional paces. As this story progresses, Macy and Garrett engage more and their banter is at times entertaining. At other times, the sparks fly as a result of their past as well as their chemistry. What really made me smile was Trey. This author did a fantastic job of creating such a realistic 6 year old boy!
Overall, a well written second chance romance with a wonderful, engaging couple, a little mystery, an especially adorable six year old boy and a great HEA filled with joy and promise.
I read an ARC of this book from Hidden Gems and voluntarily share my review.

Now Garrett is back in town and Macy’s brother Duncan, his former best friend, calls him that Macy needs someone to guard her. Someone is vandalizing the farm and he is afraid for her safety and the safety of her son, Trey and his Mom, Dee. Garrett never stopped loving Macy but can he work on the farm, find out who is targeting Pride and Joyce farm, and protect his heart so when he has to leave he does not hurt Macy again?
Macy never stopped loving Garrett but can she forgive him for the hurt he caused her?
Will they rekindle their love only to have their hearts broken in two.

Mary Sue Jackson is fast becoming a favourite author for me her Hero’s are always damaged souls who are trying to make things right in their world who find that one perfect woman for them completing them and this one is no exception
Garrett Grayson was the bad boy of Heartstrings Wyoming and the moment he was old enough he left and joined the army in the process he left behind the only woman he has ever loved Macy Joyce the youngest sister of his best friend Duncan. Every year when he has leave he returns to Heartstrings and does charity work as a way of paying back this year after a phone call from Duncan he will be helping Macy on her ranch. Someone is creating mischief for her and her young son on the ranch cutting fences and breaking windows something this army man will have no trouble handling. Can he handle one feisty female and her young son though or will they break his heart when he walks away from them
A well written second chance story, of two people letting go of the past they had as teenagers, and finding out why they separated back then. I enjoyed reading Garrett Grayson, Macy Joyce, and her son Trey’s story, there is suspense, drama, danger, twists, turns, and romance. I have yet to find a Mary Sue Jackson book that I don’t just absolutely love. And this one is no different. And as someone that grew up in the south and in the country, I have seen my fair share of cowboys. And let me tell you, there is nothing like them. The author does a tremendous job of building both of the characters and also the storyline. And the chemistry is amazing. Macy made me want to be her friend. Garrett may be a bit stubborn, but it fits the plot perfectly. I found myself falling in love with the story from the beginning and didn’t want their story to come to an end.

I enjoyed reading this cowgirl story. Macy is brave and very independent. Garrett is so compassionate and a little bit stubborn. I don’t think he gives himself enough credit at the same time realistically it touches on the adult bullying. Full circle, another chance and a destructive mystery to solve. Love the proposal it was sweet and hilarious. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
