*Previously titled Cowboys Don’t Have a Secret Romance*
Called The Preacher, Clay Stryker has lived a life as straight as a North Dakota highway.
Everyone thinks the pen and notebook he carries around is to jot down poetry or possibly notes on Scripture. They don’t know he has a secret…romance.
Reina Hall has never forgotten the night she was rescued from a child trafficking ring. She … forgotten the night she was rescued from a child trafficking ring. She definitely hasn’t forgotten the man who wouldn’t back down, refused to look the other way and risked his life to save hers.
He made a promise to her. And she’s riding west to make sure he keeps it.
Reviews for The Cowboy’s Secret Romance:
★★★★★ “A great story of love for an adopted child. Clay knew his humanity yet did his very best to live right & to do right, following his father’s teachings. Reina was rescued & trying to find her way in life. Great story! This author has story-telling talent.” – Alaska reader
★★★★★ “What an awesome story!! I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this authors books.” – Lorraine
★★★★★ “Oh so many things happen that you will not want to put this book down till the last word. Jessie Gussman has done an excellent job!” – Kindle Customer
★★★★★ “Wow. These books just keep getting better and better. This book was..just..wow. I don’t have the words. I didn’t want it to end! But I am beyond pumped for the next book!” – Michaela
★★★★★ “Clay and Reina’s story was full of twists and turns. At first I was sure if I was going to like him because it seemed like he couldn’t make up his mind between Angela and Reina. I didn’t like Angela at all. She was an opportunist looking out for number one but looking so innocent. Reina was a fully fleshed out character and my heart hurt for her. It had a great ending. I loved this book.” – M. Northington

So different and so good!
If anyone read my other review please disregard it was for another book with a similar title and I mixed up my notes. I loved the characters in this book Preacher was outstanding and the sweet romance between him and Reina made for such an engaging read. You can tell this is a faith-based story so beautifully written by a very talented author. This is a must-read and I highly recommend it. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
An amazing captivating clean Christian story. This addicting heartwarming storyline was a great story of finding a better life with love while overcoming the past with a few surprises had me hooked from start to finish. The characters were interesting and well developed. I voluntarily read and reviewed this incredible ARC.
There is so much to love about this book!
For Clay, his beliefs weren’t religion, they were his way of life. They gained him the nickname of ‘The Preacher”. He was as human as they come but his focus & his actions were based on his beliefs. Then Angel Hall comes back into his life. He rescued her once from child trafficking, now she needs another rescue. Some parts of this story reminded me of Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. He walks her through the process of reclaiming a life beyond what happened to her.
One of my favorite quotes is: “Learning to cook is kind of like building character, it happens little by little. Conscious choices and deliberate steps. You don’t fly to the end, you work your way there.”
She has a lot of new choices to make & needs to learn to see her worth.
I requested a review copy of this book and am glad that I did because I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is a good story in the series. We learn a lot more about Preacher and who he is. I can’t wait to learn more about the men on Clay’s crew.
Cowboys Don’t Have a Secret Romance is my new favorite book by Jessie Gussman. Ms. Gussman writes such exceptional stories that I want to read and re-read. It was wonderful to finally know all of Clay’s (aka Preacher) story. Chapter one has one heck of a hook to drag the reader into the story. Then time stood still as I finished the book because I could not put it down. I loved these characters – especially Clay’s crew. If you enjoy well written, clean, Christian romances with mesmerizing characters, do not miss this book!
The Preacher faces his greatest challenge!
When Clay “Preacher” Stryker saw a young girl being dragged between trucks at a truck stop he knew he had to step in to save her. Now, nine years later, she has returned to his life just in time to save it. She’s older, with piercings, and definitely out of place on the prairie wielding a shotgun, but he’d recognize that tattoo anywhere. Reina Hall, has arrived at his ranch to apply for a job and she has no idea that she is his daughter’s birth mother.
Reina has not forgotten the promise Clay made to her when the tall, skinny teenage boy came to her rescue. She is sure he has forgotten it but after years of encouraging letters and words, she wants to make sure. After all, a promise is a promise, and a girl could do worse than have a tall, good-looking cowboy for a husband.
This is another great cowboy romance with likable characters and a sweet plot. A lovely romance for an afternoon reading.
Rating: 4.5 stars
What I enjoyed:
• The author caught my attention right from the beginning and drew me into the story with the opening scene with Clay.
• Clay and Reina were characters that you wanted to discover more about as you read their story.
• The minor players in the story added depth to the storyline and were well developed, especially Gina.
• The descriptions of locations and emotions were well done, easy to visualize, and to feel. I felt a part of the scenes.
• The pacing of the story was neither too slow nor too fast.
• There was a smooth, coherent flow to this book.
• This story had a satisfying ending.
• This novel was a clean read.
• I did not find this western Christian romance preachy. Religion was just a natural part of the characters’ lives. No lectures.
I was given an ARC by the author. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own. I will be reading more books by this author.
There are several Biblical concepts touched on in this story. It covers some painful stuff, too. But the overall feel of the story is hopeful.
I love that the crew is so protective and patient and know from experience that they can trust their boss.
