His first Sunday back in the church of his childhood, he gets selected as a volunteer to co-chair the Harvest Fest committee with the girl he could never forget.Waitress and single mother Louise Olson wouldn’t have missed church to stay home with her sick daughter if she knew the congregation was going to volunteer her to head up the town’s Harvest Festival. Truth be told, she didn’t mind, and … told, she didn’t mind, and would have enjoyed it.
The problem was Sweet Water’s superstar hockey golden boy was back in town, and he had been named her co-chair. That even wouldn’t be a problem except he didn’t know he was a father – of her daughter.
Hockey forward Ty Hanson grew up on a ranch in Sweet Water, North Dakota, but once he left for college he never went home. He wouldn’t be there now except for the off-season injury his agent wanted kept secret so it didn’t affect his marketability, so he was to hang out in Sweet Water, North Dakota until the season started.
When Ty and Louise are forced to work together, Louise is compelled to tell Ty the secret she’s kept from everyone. The attraction between them still burns strong, but Louise was on the verge of getting married and years of neglect and betrayal lie between her and her accidental summer fling.
Will Ty pick up his cowboy hat and come back home? Can he convince Louise that he’ll stay this time?

For the last eight years and 40 weeks, Louise carried around a secret, the identity of the father of the daughter she gave birth to on the night of her high school graduation. So what if she never went on a single date and missed her valedictorian speech. That was her life.
Ty comes back to town for his best friend’s wedding. He receives a hero’s welcome, because of his status as a hockey star, from everyone, except Louise. She was the smartest girl that he ever knew, and she is still in their hometown, working as a waitress.
Ty has a lot to answer for and a lot of questions of his own.
This was truly a great read! I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Louise was one of the smartest girls in high school. She became valedictorian her senior year, but never gave her speech. On graduation night, she went into labor, pregnant by a boy she never told any one about. For nine years, she never told. Then one day he returns to Sweet Water for a friends wedding. He sees her waitressing and wonders why someone so smart was still in Sweet Water as a waitress. He figured she would be long gone in some big city.
He was a famous hockey star, something he had always dreamed of becoming and he made it big. He loved the game, but now he had a bigger game to play. Read this book. You won’t be disappointed.
I love series where we start to care about side characters and then get to have their story!
Louise’s story is as common as original sin and as special as a unconditional love. Her character is written with the perfect balance of strength, self-sacrifice, loyalty and vulnerability.
Ty and Louise’s love story is a joy to read! (The phone saga at the end is classic! I was definitely chuckling a few times!)
As I read these books, there’s an authenticity that makes me think they are based on a real community.
I’ve also listened to this book on Audible and it is very well acted! I highly recommend listening! The voice actor just SOUNDS like a cowboy!
I can’t wait for Ford’s story because he acts like a heel and needs some humility followed by some love and acceptance.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
An excellent story and very realistic. It was the ’70’s since I lived in ND but the atmosphere was much like this when I did. I know that things are a bit different now but there is much that is the same. My dad’s Norwegian family is similar and expectations high.
I liked how Ty worked to gain trust again and willing to wait. I was a little disappointed in the final decision about hockey. Money is a powerful motivator.
Jay Dyess did a good job narrating. I did notice that as the story progressed his female voices were sounding more raspy and strained. Maybe overuse?
I recieved a free Audible copy of this story, at my request, in exchange for a honest review.
Ty is in for the surprise of his life as he returns home.
I have read many of Jessie’s stories and have thoroughly enjoyed them! This one also has many twists & turns along the way as everyone tries to decide where their heart is & what their future should look like.
The choices Louise made, while initially come as a shock, say love so clearly that it doesn’t take Ty long to recognize her motives.
I don’t want to give you a peek at the end of this book because getting there is such an enjoyable journey. Just know that following their progress will be worth your attention.
After nine years Ty is back Sweet Waters for the summer. When he has to cochair the Harvest Festival with Louise, his crush before he left to college and play hockey, his feeling toward Louise resurface with force. But Louise has a secret from nine years ago and doesn’t trust Ty. Ty will fight to win back Louise and show her he didn’t stop loving her. Jessie’s love story is wonderful and Jay Dyess makes an amazing job telling the story in the audiobook.
A secret young love that suffered consequences from their last night together before he left for college. He lost His father and his grief kept him gone for 9 years not to return until he injured his leg and was forced to come home for rest and to get ready for his next season of hockey. He also never called or texted his young love that he still loved all these years later. But seeing her at her brother’s wedding, all the feelings he has felt for the 9 years were that much stronger. This is a second chance try to get the woman he had loved so long. And he was showing her every way he could that he loved her, if she would only trust him to give him another chance at what he wanted them to have oh so many years ago. But she had not told him a secret that involved him. Will that break them up, or provide the necessary glue to bond them all together?
I really enjoyed this book, it was a clean, sweet read. I like how the story flowed and the sweetness of it as well as the character development. A HEA ending is always good. A part of me wonders if Paul got “a letter” also.
Two things I didn’t like: first, after it was stated that Ty wasn’t just a “dumb jock” but a smart student/man, the episode of him not being able to find anything online after losing his phone made him appear stupid. Second, the way Ford is portrayed, it makes me think of him a little bit like the beast in Beauty and the Beast. That being said, I am looking forward to reading Ford’s story
Life continues in Sweet Water with single mother, Louise, and hockey star, Ty. Louise is a hard working woman who provides for her child and cares for her grandparents and has never given a hint about the father of Tella. Ty has more money than he knows what to do with and does the math when he returns to Sweet Water and meets Louise’s eight year old daughter. If you like hockey and cowboys, you will enjoy this story of real love. I received a complimentary copy of Cowboys Don’t Have a Secret Baby from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Faithfulness, hope, and forgiveness shine in this story.
