His first Sunday back in the church of his childhood, he gets selected as a volunteer to co-chair the Harvest Fest committee with the girl he could never forget.Waitress and single mother Louise Olson wouldn’t have missed church to stay home with her sick daughter if she knew the congregation was going to volunteer her to head up the town’s Harvest Festival. Truth be told, she didn’t mind, and … told, she didn’t mind, and would have enjoyed it.
The problem was Sweet Water’s superstar hockey golden boy was back in town, and he had been named her co-chair. That even wouldn’t be a problem except he didn’t know he was a father – of her daughter.
Hockey forward Ty Hanson grew up on a ranch in Sweet Water, North Dakota, but once he left for college he never went home. He wouldn’t be there now except for the off-season injury his agent wanted kept secret so it didn’t affect his marketability, so he was to hang out in Sweet Water, North Dakota until the season started.
When Ty and Louise are forced to work together, Louise is compelled to tell Ty the secret she’s kept from everyone. The attraction between them still burns strong, but Louise was on the verge of getting married and years of neglect and betrayal lie between her and her accidental summer fling.
Will Ty pick up his cowboy hat and come back home? Can he convince Louise that he’ll stay this time?

Louise had loved Ty Hanson and he had left her and never returned like he promised that he would. Nine years later and he has returned to their small town in North Dakota to recuperate from surgery out of the spotlight. He is a successful hockey player in the NHL. He knows he hurt Louise when he left and so much time has gone by now that he doesn’t know if he can get her to forgive him and give him a second chance. No other woman has ever measured up to her.
Louise had a secret she didn’t want Ty to know about so she had to keep her distance. But, his first Sunday in town, he had been volunteered to co-chair the town’s Harvest Festival and, in her absence, she was volunteered to help him. When they were forced to work together, she knew she would have to tell Ty her secret; the secret she had kept from everyone.
Even though she still is attracted to him would she be able to forgive him for betraying her trust? Would he just hurt her again? Could her heart take it once again?
I have read the Baxter Boys series by this author and enjoyed it very much. I’m excited to this new series that takes place in Sweet Water, North Dakota. I skipped the first book in the series but I am looking forward to going back to read Palmer and Ames’ story. Her characters have depth and emotion and there is chemistry and romance. The story is clean without descriptive sex and foul language.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Ty Hanson returned to his home town after 9 years away for college and playing in the NHL. He shared a secret summer with Louise Olsen before he left never realizing that time resulted in a baby. Louise’s dreams changed when she had Tella. She received the same offer Palmer did in the last book and thinks a marriage of convenience with Paul, a customer that she waits on at Patty’s Diner, in order to receive the billion dollar inheritance is what is best for her and her daughter until Ty comes back to town and they are forced to work on the Harvest Fest Committee together. She kept trying to dodge him finding out about Tella, which I’m surprised, no one other than his mother and Louise’s grandmother figured out the truth years ago. I didn’t like Paul, who came off as self-centered and a jerk at times. It makes me wonder if he knew about the money even though Louise didn’t tell him since he was pushing her so hard to marry her quickly. Ty wouldn’t have been ready to be a father 9 years ago and financially he’s in a much better place now because Louise didn’t tell him and he followed his dreams, but he still had some growing up to do in this book. There were plenty of ups and downs and misunderstandings in this clean second chance romance.
Cowboys Don’t Have a Secret Baby is a wonderful romance. Ms. Gussman’s stories always touch my heart. Louise and TY are such well developed characters. When the book arrived I dropped everything to read it straight through. I loved this story of trust broken, trust repaired and second chance.
This series just keeps getting better and better!
Louise Olson and Ty Hanson are proof that it only takes once. Their secret high school romance ended when Ty left the small town of Sweet Water, North Dakota to become a super-star in the NHL, but he left behind more than just memories of their time together.
Louise is now a single-mother struggling to get by on the paycheck of a waitress and part time editor, care for her aging parents, and be a good mother to Tella; her nine-year-old daughter. Her lofty dreams of college and a successful career in medical research were set aside and she endured a year of hell as a pregnant, unmarried, high school senior. Louise kept the identity of her baby’s father a secret from everyone, including her family; never even telling Ty she was pregnant.
Tella is an avid hockey fan, never knowing that her favorite pro player is actually her father and now Ty is back in Sweet Water, recovering from a serious injury. Running into Louise at the diner was a pleasant surprise and he is looking forward to picking up where they left off as teenagers. When Louise finds herself serving with Ty as co-chairs of the Harvest Festival she knows the time has come to reveal all, especially since Tella cannot wait to meet him.
The pace is excellent and the author weaves the romance between Ty and Louise into their everyday lives in a believable storyline. The book is a lovely romantic escape for an afternoon or a couple of evenings.
He left her to deal with it all and never looked back. She had believed in him and in them and part of her died a little when he didn’t contact her. Raising their child and living in the small town where everyone knew everything wasn’t easy but she never revealed her daughters father. Now he’s back and there’s more than a spark there. Oh how I loved the back and forth and angst with this book. I have to admit there were times when I wanted to tell her to suck it up but then she would show her gumption and strength. It’s a second chance clean romance and I absolutely loved how the author brought it all together.
A wonderful second chance romance. This heartwarming, sweet, touching, clean read was heartbreaking and smooth flowing. It is a standalone with little drama and angst that follows a series with amazing cameos of previous characters. I enjoyed these two’s journey of reuniting to complete a family that was meant to be. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.
Louise and Ty had a thing for each other years ago, but he left to pursue his dreams. Unbeknownst to him, he left something important behind, along with the love of his life. He returns and discovers, to his shock, that he has a daughter and he’s still madly in love with Louise. This is another well written story by Jessie Gussman.
I am really enjoying this series and this book was so much fun to read. It is full of hope, romance, and second chances. Ty is a sexy, hockey player who does not know he has a daughter and Louise is the girl he fell in love with back in high school but he did not know that then. Nine years later Ty is ready to return home to North Dakota only to discover Louise is his one true love. I liked how close knit the families were and I especially liked what both Ty and Louise were willing to give up for each other. I cannot wait to read more books in this series because I really like the characters and the stories. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
“Cowboys Don’t Have a Secret Baby” was a sweet book. Jessie’s stories, the ones I’ve read so far, are romantic and clean and I’d have no qualms about recommending them to my daughter or my mother. 🙂 There were some anxious moments in this story and some forks in the plot where I really wasn’t sure which direction she would take it. The characters were interesting, realistic, and appealing as well. I really enjoyed it. (I volunteered to read an ARC of this story and this is my honest review.)
I had an advance Readers copy of this book, but this review is my honest opinion. I really enjoyed this book. It was a natural follow up to the first book in the series. The story was interesting, and the character development was good.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the ranch setting. The characters are great and so relatable. The book is well written. This is a great, sweet romance story.
As much as I enjoyed book one in the series, this one just ran away with a 5+ stars rating.
The story of Louise Olson and Ty Hanson is a sweet ,clean , touching , at times heartbreaking but also heartwarming story.
Two individuals that fell in love but on the one and only time they became one, the world around them changed their lives forever.
Ty left to become a famous hockey player with little contact with the town, and Louise was left to pick up the pieces and bring up a darling daughter. A girl whose father’s name was never mentioned and one he knows nothing about.
Little did they know that when Ty returns 9 years later, everyone’s life will change once again. But will Ty stay this time, or will he once again leave behind everyone he loves?
Another winner by this talented author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
What an intriguing story by Jessie Gussman! You can almost feel the embarrassment and shame Louise felt as she walked the halls of her high school during her senior year, pregnant and alone. You can see her determination to do the best by her daughter for the next eight years. However, just as she decides the course she must take to secure a future for herself and her daughter, another option presents itself. I love the characters in this story though I wonder about Gram and Mrs Donna. Both of them suspected who the father was but neither of them ever approached Louise or Ty. I don’t know if this is normal for Norwegians, but it sure wouldn’t happen that way in my family! Maybe if a conversation had happened earlier, Louise wouldn’t have had to struggle as hard as she did.
I listened to this on Audible and Jay Dyess narrated the story so well! I could listen to him all day! Come to think of it, I did!
I received a complimentary of this book and I also purchased a copy.
This was a light-hearted fun read. While it is the second book of the series, you really don’t have to read the first one to enjoy this. I would highly recommend it though as it was just as delightful as this one. It makes for a great escape from the everyday hassles.
Louise has an eight-year old daughter Tella. No one, not even her family knows who the father is. Louise never dated. She went through her senior year of high school pregnant. She was given a letter that if she marries within 6 months, she would receive one billion dollars! She wants to get out of the house now that Ames (her story was the first one of the series) has come to live with them. Louise feels that the newly weds don’t need her around. She could buy a ranch in the area if she only had a husband. She knows a man that is older than her, Paul. Paul is a good man but there are no sparks on either side BUT he treats her daughter well and would make a great father.
Ty Hanson is a super-star NHL player who plays for Pittsburgh. He rarely comes home to Sweet Water. He had a thing for Louise and made her promises when he graduated from high school. But he and his father argued terribly one night. Before Ty comes home, his father dies of a heart attack. Ty leaves for college then on to become a hockey player. He never said good-bye to Louise nor kept any of the promises that he made her. The guilt was enormous. He is forced to come back during the off-season as a result of an injury. He arrives in time for the wedding reception of Palmer and Ames. It is there that he sees Louise and the old feelings start to emerge all over again. There are a few hurdles that both have to over come to get to their HEA. Like Ty doesn’t live in North Dakota and won’t for a few more years to play hockey. Meanwhile Louise has to marry someone and LIVE in North Dakota by Christmas to receive her inheritance!
There were some really great scenes. Some of lines that were so touching, some extremely funny and others thought provoking. I really hated to see this end. I adored the dual POV format. I really felt like I was right there. This book as well as the first one would make for a great Hallmark movie!!!
This is a sweet, clean romance that anyone can read. There were some kissing scenes but that was all. It was a great way to escape the realities of the day.
Ty and Louise were best friends and secretly they started seeing each other down by the river. Ty left to go to college and to become a major hockey star. He had a fight with his father that night. But later that night his father had a heart attack and passed away. Ty didn’t come home for over 9 years. Then he came home to see his mother. He ran into Louise and while he was at home for a month he found out that he was a dad.
Louise had been pregnant the last time she had seen Ty for his father’s funeral but she hadn’t known that. She found out later. But she didn’t tell him or anyone because she wanted him to get his college education and become the hockey star that he had.
Now can she trust him again and can they become more than friends. Check out the book I just couldn’t put it down.
Things you say in anger can affect your entire life.
Ty left home after an argument with his dad, and his dad died before Ty could cry peace. Guilt makes us do things we regret.
Louise is the girl Ty left behind. Louise never let Ty know that their one night together had left her with a baby girl. She never told anyone who the father of the child is. What do you think happens when he comes home and finds out her secret?
This story reads true to real-life choices. The reader will feel for all the characters involved. How can a dad resist a child for whom he is a hero? How can he forgive his secret love for not telling him about his child? How can Louise forgive Ty for his free-wheeling lifestyle and never looking back?
I really enjoyed reading this book. Ms. Gussman does a great job of developing likable characters and writing an interesting story line. This was a clean book, with a few references to words like frig, crap, and darn. There wasn’t much of that in there, but enough to warrant mentioning. I have enjoyed all of this series that I have read so far, but each of them does have the above words I mentioned.
*I listened to the audible version of this book and really enjoyed the way the narrator read the story.
Sweet second chance romance. Beautifully crafted story includes secrets, misconceptions, gossip and the courage it takes to persevere and make amends. You can’t help but root for the handsome Hockey player and the single mom. Jay Dyess is excellent at narration and uses voice inflection and different tones to keep the reader interested.
This book was incredible. It was better than I could have imagined. I loved these characters and their second chance, surprise child romance. I adored getting to know more of Sweet Water and am eager to read Ford’s story and anticipating Georgia’s!
Audio addition: This book had the most physical romance (still very clean) of any I’ve heard Dyess read. I was very impressed at how it came across. As always, an audio that caused me to continue to listen (even though I read it earlier this year) rather switch to reading a new book.
Louise has her secret she has been keeping from Ty for many years. Now he’s back home & still interested in her. Interesting how they work things out & he learns of their child. He has the chance to make things right with her now. Does he do it? I enjoyed this audible book very much. I received a free copy from the author. This is my voluntary opinion.
