Previously titled Cowboys Don’t Stand Under the Mistletoe
When Mack’s sister dropped her kids off with his dad in his trailer park, he knew he needed to step up and be an uncle. But he’d told his buddy he’d be in Sweet Water, ND over the holidays, so he takes the children and drives north.
Angela Davis had been the sedate good daddy’s girl all her life, doing whatever her parents wanted, even … the sedate good daddy’s girl all her life, doing whatever her parents wanted, even trying to trap a man into marriage to help them get out of debt. Mack knew of her past, and didn’t trust her, but he needed someone to help him with his nieces and she needed someone to help her put on the best Christmas festival Sweet Water had ever seen.
Could they trust each other enough to work together? And what about that mistletoe kiss?

Mack is a great protagonist who is working on overcoming his past lifestyle! His sister left her two small daughters with their grandparents who are unable to care for them so Mack has accepted responsibility and is doing a great job of setting a good example for them. Angela has also made changes in her life but Mack’s friends remember her past actions. What happens when Angela finds a letter where Mack will inherit a billion dollars if he marries? You’ll enjoy this Christmas story by Jessie Gussman. I received an advance e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Well-written and completely captivating.
Angela and Mack do not trust each other but they find that they needed to work together. Mack’s sister dumps her children and runs off now Mack has to deal with it. Angela had done some questionable things but now she is trying to change. This faith-based gem was a joy to read. I loved all the characters and each book by this author gets better and better. Do yourself a favor a pick this one up it is fast-paced, well-written and completely captivating. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is one of Jessie’s best books. The woman that everyone else on the harvest team grew to hate because of what she did to Clay and Brent. Mack saw as a person that had changed her life. But he made a big mistake and had to find a way to get Louise to believe he was sorry. The past always seems to come back to haunt you even when you want to leave it in the past. So many things have to be straightened out besides Louise. Mack has his young nieces waiting for their mother to come home and he has a business opportunity to finalize. In the long run, is any of this going to come out the way he hopes? I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I highly recommend this book.
I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jessie took a character that was disliked in previous books and grows her into someone special. A great read! I enjoyed the characters and the plot and would recommend this book!
This series has been such a fun one to follow as we see friends, family & coworkers living life together as we see how life forces it’s impact on each of them. What kind of person is Angela, after receiving a bitter dose of reality that some say she deserves? What kind of man is Mack when his nieces suddenly become his responsibility and upsetting the neat & tidy plans he has made for his life? But is he brave enough to accept the help from Angela??? She has a history that everyone knows about. Can his friends really goad him into a bet? She IS really good with the kids.
Again, be prepared for more than just a romance. Take a look inside the hearts of these people…people who you would enjoy knowing & be proud to call them your friends.
As with the rest of the books in this series, each can be read as a stand alone but you will definitely enjoy them better as you get to watch the overall story unfold.
I requested a review copy of this book but am willingly sharing my impression of it.
Cowboys Don’t Stand Under the Mistletoe is another wonderful romance from Jessie Gussman. We have seen Angela in two other stories but this book still stands alone. Ms. Gussman writes very interesting, flawed characters with heart. love and gumption. In this book, Mack and Angela are left to care for Mack’s sisters children. Mack knows Angela’s past but he can see that she has changed. As they care for the children, they begin to care for each other. I always rush straight through Ms. Gussman’s books and am so sorry when I reach the end. Love this entire series and highly recommend this book.
Good second chance story. Not having read previous books involving Angela I was a little put off by the trickery a deceitfulness planned for her. The drama and the goodness that prevail make the story a delight.
Another great book in a great series by one of my favorite authors. These books just seem to keep getting better. Mack and Angela’s story was so good. It captivated me from the beginning and I didn’t want it to end. I’m looking forward to the next book.
I really enjoyed Cowboys Don’t Stand Under the Mistletoe. It is a wonderful a sweet romance. I really like the characters and how they have grown and changed. I love how Mack and Angela’s relationship grew. This a a great Christmas romance story.
Cowboys Don’t Stand Under the Mistletoe is more than a romance,it is about overcoming the past. Angela knows that she deserves the reputation that she cannot be trusted, but she has moved to North Dakota into the same town as the men she betrayed because she knows it is safer than the situation she left behind. Mack has never really had to be responsible for more than himself, but he finds himself caring for his young nieces indefinitely. Taking them to North Dakota to be near the most stable friends he has seems the wise choice. Can working together to care for his nieces and to organize the Sweet Water Christmas Festival give them the chance to redeem themselves…and maybe to find love? I can’t get enough of the Sweet Water Ranch Cowboys series! I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and I am willingly offering this review.
Angela is trying to build a new life in Sweet Waters even if she knows a lot of people dislike her. Mack is back in Sweet Waters to buy Clay’s harvest business. Mav, Clay’s little brother, wants to partner with him if he makes Angela fall in love with him and take revenge for his brothers. But when Angela an Mack start to spend time together, her helping him with his two nieces and him helping her with the Christmas festival, they really like each other. Can they have a chance of a future together? A sweet love story.
-‘…he’d added conniving to that list and stuck her under the heading “do not consider.”’-
His sister dropped off her two little kids at the senior living facility where her parents lived and hot-footed it after her cheating boyfriend. Since their parents weren’t allowed to keep children their long term, he ended up having to care for them. Mack works for Clay (see previous books for character information) and, since he promised to be in North Dakota for work, he had no choice but to bring his nieces along.
-‘Angela Davis. The woman who’d tried to get Clay to marry her for his money then told Boone, Clay’s brother, that he wasn’t good enough for her because he wasn’t rich. She was beautiful, no doubt, but any man would be a fool to get close to her. His heart needed to get a grip, since it picked up the pace a notch or two since she turned. He wasn’t going to be fooled by a pretty face. Angela walked to her doorway. “Mack.” He nodded at her. He could be nice. He knew what she was and what she wanted…Mack felt free to flirt since he knew he’d never be interested.’-
This book is the fifth in a series and, although it can be read as a stand-alone, it is definitely best to read the previous books in chronological order as there are backstories for all the characters mentioned in the book and it helps with identifying relationships. The author did a great job, as always. This book is well-written, fast paced, and the storyline is captivating. Recommended.
Both have grown from pasts mistakes but getting others to see that they’ve changed is harder to achieve.
What I liked and engaged me in this novel:
• The story quickly captured my attention as I felt Mack’s apprehension at being at Church with his two very young nieces.
• The two little girls, Ashleigh and Holly, were so cute that they captured my heart.
• I liked the theme of the story that people can change, if they desire to improve themselves.
• Mack and Angela made an interesting couple. Their interaction was full of teasing and witty banter. As I read, I wanted to dig deeper beneath their facades and find out who they really were.
• I had some great laughs from the situations Mack found himself in while caring for his nieces.
This was a book that I believe most readers would enjoy. It was a story filled with fun, heart, and soul.
I was given a free copy of this book by the author. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own.
Jessie Gussman has done it again–a great new installment in the Sweet Water series. This one seemed to center around the challenges and rewards of people changing for the better. The characters had been introduced in earlier books in the series: Angela, a preacher’s daughter who had been raised to be more concerned about appearances than substance and Mack, a member of a harvesting crew whose charm and good looks combined with uninvolved parents got him into lots of trouble. They are drawn together by mutual need for assistance with responsibilities and neither has any interest in a romance with the other. But things can change. I really enjoyed this story and highly recommend it. I received an ARC from the author and this voluntarily given review is my honest opinion.
If you have read previous stories in this series, you have “met” Angela Davis. She’s a preacher’s daughter who pursued Clay for years and later his brother. Not because she loved either, but for money.
The author had managed to make me dislike her enough, that it took me a long time to get into the story.
That in itself was a lesson. Why? Because as a reader I had misjudged her and had not taken the time to “know “ her as an individual. In this case, she wasn’t the one wanting a rich husband , but rather her parents . They wanted to save themselves.
Now Angela is trying to overcome her past and in doing so, ends up helping as well as falling for Mack. A man known as a womanizer and one who makes a bet he’ll later regret.
In the end, it’s a story about redemption, about how we sometimes judge without reason, about hope, and about the possibility of finding someone that loves you for whom you are and is willing to stand by you.
This story is another winner by this talented author.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Such a compelling story of faith and redemption. With playful banter, two adorable little girls to love and Mack and Angela’s confessions of the heart this is a page-turner. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I received this copy free from the author and am under no obligation to leave a review. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am freely sharing my opinion.
Always bet on a sure thing!
Mack can do anything required on a ranch and he can work every day of the season on the combining crew with Clay and Abner. But taking care of his two little nieces, after their mom ran off to Europe chasing her boyfriend, was one of the biggest challenges he’s ever faced. He brought them with him to Sweetwater North Dakota and rented rooms at Mr. Swanson’s. Angela Davis also has a room there. She is the girl who tried to con Clay into marriage for his money and then dumped Boone for not being good enough, but she seems different than the last time he saw her. Back then, she was the preacher’s daughter but now she’s here in Sweetwater teaching Sunday school and working as a waitress at Patty’s Diner. He’s not real comfortable about accepting Mav’s bet that he can’t make her fall for him to get revenge for the way she treated Mav’s brothers, but if he succeeds Matt will put up 50% of the money he needs to buy Clay’s combining business. Besides, he’s pretty sure he can get a Sunday-school lady to dump him without hurting her feelings even if he wins the bet.
Angela is working hard to be a different person than the one she used to be and with God’s help, she is succeeding. She has made mistakes and takes responsibility for them, even if the fiasco with Clay was at her parent’s urging. She met Holly and Ashleigh, Mack’s little nieces when he brought them to the Sunday School preschool class. They are sweet little girls and she doesn’t mind helping him with them where she can since it is obvious he is inexperienced with parenting. He is a nice cowboy but not the type she would want a long-term relationship with and he probably won’t want anything to do with her anyway since he knows how she treated his friends.
This is a sweet cowboy romance. I couldn’t put it down after I started reading. I liked the influence of God in Angela’s life but it is subtle and not intrusive on the storyline. It was a good plot and I love happy endings.
