Rancher Cordell Stryker just wants to settle down on his ranch, and he’s convinced the twin sister of his best friend to tie the knot with him.
But as the wedding day approaches, he finds himself drawn more to her sister. That just can’t be, because she’s his best friend.
Librarian Rosaleen “Rosie” Bloom is addicted to reading romance novels and living vicariously through them, rather than … novels and living vicariously through them, rather than pursuing the man she loves in real life.
Rosie had been content to read about romance, letting life pass her by, but could she rewrite her own love story?

I always enjoy reading books by Jessie Gussman and this one has some interesting characters, sisters who are totally opposite, a “twin pact”, the chance of ruining a friendship and the prospect of lots of money. What more could you want? I found myself yelling “NO!!!!, don’t do it” on several occasions.
The Cowboy’s Marriage Mistake is about Cord that was sent one of the billion dollar letters from the gentlemen that wanted to get single people in North Dakota to marry within 6 months and they must live in North Dakota for a year. He loved North Dakota and hoped he could persuade others to give it a try, and so far all that have married under these circumstances fell madly in love. Cord’s best friend was Rosie. They grew up together and trained his team of draft horses and showed them in competitions. They were always there for each other. Rosie is an identical twin with Rosalin that moved to Chicago. They are like the little angels you see on people’s shoulders on tv. Rosie was good and enjoys working part time in the library she help to set up for their town. She only cared about enough money to pay her few bills. Rosalin was the bad twin that lived an entirely different life from how she was raised. Cord has asked Rosalin to marry him but, on a visit to his ranch she found the letter for the billion dollars. She was more sultry, and flirty and Cord thought they could make this a mutual agreement but, she had to move back to Sweet Water. She enjoyed her life in Chicago so she bullied Rosie to play her for the wedding planning and New Year’s date with Cord. Rosie had left Cord for a snowmobile ride with a guy visiting his brother and they “ran out of gas”. Rosie texted Cord for help and he immediately went to find her. When Cord finds her they were so happy they kissed. Their life changed from that moment on. When Cord pays a surprise visit to Rosalin to break off their engagement, he found the lifestyle she was living. However, she still wanted the money. So the wedding that Rosie and Cord plans for themselves, becomes a fiasco. I was waiting for him to wake up as I thought he was having a nightmare it was that bad. You can say a billion dollars can make certain people do anything they would have to in order to get the money. That was Rosalin and Rosie’s mysterious snowmobile rider Max’s plan. The rollercoaster ride was still not over for the two of them. Together they could move a mountain if they set their minds to it and they were determined to make a home for Joseph that would be fit to live in and show him the love he deserved if only they could get custody. Would Rosalin and Max stop all their dreams from coming true?
I loved this book. There were a lot of twists and it was awesome! The character, as always, were amazing and the storyline was sweet and lovely. I’m sad that this is the last book of the series and I sure hope that Gussman comes out with more because, I have to say, I am completely addicted to these stories. I literally can’t put them down.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
An interesting story of twins Rosie and Rosalin who have spend their life taking each other’s place. Cord is an extremely nice guy who has been best friends with Rosie almost all of their lives. Cord is engaged to Rosalin! Rosie knows she has loved Cord for years but determines to stay friends even when he marries her twin. Who asks their twin to “twin” and plan her wedding rather than doing so herself! This book takes some interesting turns! I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
I liked this story. It wasn’t my favorite of this sweet water series of books. It was very sweet and I loved the connection that Cord and Rosie had. I really didn’t like Rosalin and her manipulation of her sister and Cord. I also loved that Cord and Rosie just wanted to do good for others. Their desire to help a young boy in a bad situation and Rosie’s desire to bring a library to Sweet Water without much financial support were admirable.
I would recommend this story because it was definitely worth the time to read and get some good feels.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
Life was never calm…
Funny – “Part of her wanted to laugh at the irony of having three men in her apartment. Her, a quiet librarian who’d barely ever had a date had a kissing expert, a ladies’ man, and her sister’s fiancé all visiting in one night. Busy night.”
Intriguing – “Am I…interrupting something?” Rosie’s mouth went up and down. Liam spoke. “Not at all. I’ve been hired to give our Rosie here some kissing lessons. You’re just in time to be a third eye and make sure we’re doing it right.”
Inspiring – “When you lie, you’re tearing down the character of your soul in the same way, just to get what you want in the moment. Eventually, you’ll be left with a void inside, nothing, where you should have character. A man with no character is a blight on the face of the earth.”
The Cowboy’s Marriage Mistake by Jessie Gussman (4.5 stars)
Cord, the hero in this story, can be pretty clueless, proposing to the twin sister of his best friend because he didn’t want to ruin their friendship. And Rosie engages in a bit of deception by pretending to be her twin a couple of times. I never did Iike books where there were lies between the protagonists.
Luckily, it all gets resolved eventually, and we get to spend a tiny bit of time with our couple in love and with the air cleared of all lies. (Personally, I would have liked to spend more time with them as an engaged couple.)
Then there’s Joseph. (The reason for the loss of half a star.) We don’t get to know him at all. We know Cord and Rosie like this kid, but we don’t get to see any interactions between them. Yes, they save him from his dad, and that is noble of them, but I felt that, as a reader, I missed out on their interactions with Joseph. With the talent that Ms. Gussman has, those could have been some pretty great scenes. Oh, well.
On the whole, it was a very good book! It was a romantic book and well-written and was fun to get Cord’s story! I’m excited to think that Lark’s story might be coming up the pike!
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
What a great read! Jessie has a way with words and she is great at developing characters. This book had me intrigued with “pulling a twin”, but to pick out your wedding cake and to go on a date with your fiance?? It was a nice story of friends to more. Times of suspense and I loved the last chapter and epilogue.
The Cowboy’s Marriage Mistake is a great sweet, clean romance. I really enjoyed reading it. The characters are interesting. This was a fun book to read.
Now we get Cord and the twins story and it’s got plenty of zingers. Forgiveness seems to be the message in this story and while the story and the forgiveness is truly given reason Cord’s metamorphosis is a little harder to take. The romance or change in attitude seems quick for Cord while we know that Rosie has been in love with him forever. The deception while not long lived is more pointing toward the forgiveness. There are some things that happen that seemed to be glossed over but none of these things take away from the great story it is and that this author is so good for. These sweet hometown reads are clean and so enjoyable that it’s a nice reprieve. The author also lets us know this series is almost at an end with some new goodies following. I can’t wait.
Sometimes you just don’t see what’s in front of you. Rosie and her twin sister Rosalyn used to trade places, but when they got older it didn’t work as well. Cord needs a wife and doesn’t want to lose his best friend Rosie so he asks her sister Rosalyn to marry him, to his surprise she says yes. Cord and Rosie need a hard push to figure out what they want. Cord and Rosie both love a young boy, Joseph who needs help. I hope they wise up before its too late. This is a touching story with more than a few surprises along the way. Even though this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book.
Really enjoyed reading this book. Cord and Rosie are wonderfully written characters. Cord and Rosie have a lot to figure out before they can get their HEA.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary, honest review.
I haven’t found a Jessie Gussman book I didn’t enjoy. The Cowboy’s Marriage Mistake is no exception. Of course, this book is a sweet and clean romance, but the author includes great dialogue, humor, and some interesting unexpected twists. Putting it down is impossible. First rate read!
I have been impatiently awaiting this book! I have told of its impending arrival to my closest friends and family. Then, I finally received the ARC.
You might ask how I could be so excited for an ARC…? The Sweetwater librarian (who is a twin) was reading a book that had a Rachel and Leah style switch. I knew then what the next book would be, and I was all about the modern take on a biblical piece of history.
This book was full of surprises and I found that the sisters were more Jacob and unwise Esau than Rachel and Leah. However, it was fabulous. Surprises abound.
Another Must Read!
This review is unbiased in that I’m not paid for my reviews, and I don’t know the author. However, she consistently writes so well that I highly anticipate reading her work.
Cord is about to marry Rosie’s identical twin sister, Rosalin. He doesn’t realize that although Rosie is his best friend, she also is interested in him. His engagement has caused her distress because she doesn’t want to interfere in Cord’s relationship. Rosalin can’t seem to make time to come home to the ranch from her job in Chicago so she asks her twin to help out. This is another sweet love story from Jessie Gussman that I’ve really enjoyed. Suitable for all ages.
First, I read both clean and not so clean. After having read several not clean in a row, reading something like this, something sweet and wholesome was just refreshing. No, it’s not very real world, but it’s just cute and a nice change of pace.
I love friends to more and cord and Rosie were just too cute. I loved the added aspect of Joseph. My two complaints were Rosie and her sister having such similar names and the fact that it ended too soon. It wrapped up a little too quick for me. I would have liked to have seen more interaction with joseph, what he wanted, how he felt about the changes in his life. I can only hope that since it seems we’re branching out more into cord’s family, we’ll keep seeing more of him and rosie.
Different sisters, different life choices
A clean romance doesn’t equal boring!
Even while the characters face serious issues, there is a light-hearted vibe through the book. The friendship between Cord & Rosie helps them through some of the hurdles…if only they were able to trust each other enough to express their true feelings about each other.
Just as you think you know where this story is going, you get blindsided. It definitely held my attention & left me ready for the next story to unfold.
With each added story to the Sweet Water Ranch series, we meet new friends & get to see glimpses into how the lives of previous friends are expanding & how their lives are turning out. The connections from previous stories add a richer experience to the overall story of Sweet Water but each story can easily be read by itself without leaving you in the dark.
I requested an advance copy but my opinions are my own & have not been required.
Rating: 3.5 stars
My thoughts on this book:
• The story was told from alternating viewpoints between Rosie and Cord. The transition between viewpoints was seamless.
• There were lots of funny mental dialogues going on in Rosie’s and Cord’s brain and it made me laugh a lot.
• I felt Rosalin used people and she was very selfish. She made a great villain.
• I did not find it reasonable or sensible the way Cord reacted when he found out Rosalin’s true profession. This took away from the plot’s believability for me.
• I really liked Joseph, who was a neglected preteen. His character added compassion and depth to the story.
• This was a clean read and I appreciate authors who write that way.
I was given a free copy of this book by the author. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own.
I have loved this entire series! The Cowboy’s Marriage Mistake (aka Cowboys Don’t Marry the Wrong Sister) is a fun, clean romance. Rosie and Cord are well drawn, very likable characters. Rosie’s twin sister Rosalin, engaged to Cord, is a very different person than Rosie. Rosalin seems quite uninterested in planning a wedding and keeps “pulling a twin.” Rosalin expects Rosie to go with Cord, impersonating Rosalin, and hiding the fact that Rosalin is still in Chicago. There is a lot of drama in this well written book and I loved every minute of it.
I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Jessie’s Cowboy Series is marvelous and each book is better than the one before! The characters in this latest one are wonderful. I really enjoyed both the humor and the twists of the story including the twin switch. The willingness of the characters to forgive each other and the best friend aspect were well done. I would highly recommend reading this book.
