This is like a retelling of Cinderella except the stepfather is the mean one & the step-sisters are not so mean but are selfish. At least the billionaire is nice & get’s jealous. I received a free audible copy from the author. This is my voluntary review.
she is working at her house as if she was a servant. His stepfather and stepsister treat her without respect but she promised her mother that she would take care of his little brother. He is a billionaire and he has to choose his wife in a formal ball with mask in his ranch Swet Water. Can they find each other and have a chance to love? the audioobook is great. Jessie’s stories are awesome and Mr. Dyess tells them beautifully
The Cowboy’s Fairy Tale is a take on Cinderella. But this version is so much more entertaining and filled with snobbery, two wicked sisters, a high minded city woman, a wicked step father, and a sweet young boy she loved with all her heart. The story is full of humor, sadness, happiness and love that was worth way more than a billion dollars. It has surprises that will bring anger to the reader just like it did Nell. But her kindness and her belief that her mother said you can choose to be happy was how Nell tried to live. It was a story that is too hard to put down and you have to read it till the end. I loved it!!
Jessie Gussman has done it again! This series keeps getting better and better! Nell and Ryder’s story is like a Cinderella story. He is wealthy, she is poor. Many twists and turns later will they find that magic moment?
I received an advance copy of this book and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
Cowboys Don’t Believe in Fairy Tales by Jessie Gussman (4 stars)
I love fairy tale retellings and this one is wonderful! It follows the bones of the story but does its own thing as well.
Nell is so good that it is almost unbelievable, until you know her motivations. The self-control she practices then goes from unbelievable to downright admirable. And, boy, does she get chances to practice!
Ryder is the person who really undergoes personal growth and a change of values. It’s a slow change, but a good one. He goes from valuing money and business to valuing people and relationships. Nell’s gentle ways and goofy banter help him to become less jaded.
The shoes are a whimsical addition and I liked the slight magical element, very understated, but still there.
It’s a pretty good stand-alone, but would be better if you read the series in order as there are interactions with characters from former books.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
I love Jessie’s cowboy romances. A multi billionaire’s uncle dies and leaves him the business, in New York, and a large ranch in North Dakota. But, there is a catch to the inheritance. He has to get married and live in North Dakota for at least a year. He has to chose his “Cinderella” at the Ball they are throwing. Who will he choose and will he give it all up for love or take to money way out? He not a rancher. He makes billion dollar decisions everyday, not feed cattle or ride the range. Who will be his bride? Michele or Nell? Read the book to find out. You won’t be sorry.
This book is a sweet modern version of Cinderella. Nell is held captive by a promise and Ryder is forced to make a choice by the strict guidelines of his uncle’s will. Will they be able to find love together?
“Cowboys Don’t Believe in Fairy Tales” by Jessie Gussman was a sweet Cinderella story. This Cinderella was not a victim but was spiritually strong and made a decision every day to be happy and to keep her promises despite what it cost her. She had a heart of love and honesty and was one of my favorite heroines. The ‘prince’ in this tale also makes good decisions and is kind. They are a good fit. I read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Nell was worse than an indentured servant in her stepfather’s house because she wasn’t even paid. She was treated poorly by her stepfather and her stepsisters. Since her mother’s death, she was determined to take care of her young stepbrother. And it was for that purpose that she put up with their treatment of her. One night on a lonely snowy highway in North Dakota, she had a flat and before she could change the tire, a handsome stranger stopped to help. He was dressed in expensive clothes and drove an expensive sports car. He left her with an invitation to a fairytale ball to be held in a couple of months and a striking pair of fancy silver shoes that looked too big to fit her feet.
Instead of going to the ball, she was determined to get hired as a server for the ball so she could make some money of her own. When she went to the Sweet Valley Ranch to apply for the job, she discovered her friend, Clay “Preacher” worked as the foreman at the ranch. He gave her a glowing recommendation and before she left, she met up with the handsome stranger from the tire incident, Ryder. She didn’t know his roll on the ranch but he was sure nice to look at but completely out of her league.
Nell was unlike any woman Ryder had ever met. She was kind, smiling, genuine and wholesome. She was guileless and only did things to help others, not to take advantage. I won’t give away the rest of the story, but suffice to say, just like Cinderella, there is a happy ending but not an easy one to get to.
I have read several books by this author, and several in this series. I love her style and the way she helps you to connect with the characters. You feel like you could be friends, and you are always cheering for the underdog. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants an uplifting, clean romance that give you all the good feels.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly ad enthusiastically offer my honest review.
I have had a great run of awesome reads from some of my go to authors and like them this author does not disappoint. This author continues to fill my reader with story after story that are not only clean reads but also contain a story that hits all of the gotta have check marks. This one even has the woman we all want to choke along with family members you want to hang. This modern day Cinderella story has the same punch and feel good where the evil siblings have their time and get there just desserts. This time it’s the billionaire’s son who is on the block and he has to choose his partner at the ball. It’s a fun and frustrating time when feelings and heart and reason don’t always go hand in hand. Will the benefactors family be the only ones who don’t profit from his passing? Will his rules change the heart or will the heart win out and an entire life be realigned into one that hadn’t been dreamed? Love this game of catty vs meek, while finding out if dreams realized are the same in the end.
This story had Cinderella elements with Nell being treated like an unpaid servant, a mean selfish stepsister Beth, a cold step father Tom, magical shoes, and a ball where Ryder is supposed to pick a woman to marry. At first I didn’t know about Ryder because he was so different from Nell and had only known a life of privilege. I wasn’t sure he could be happy with a farm girl. But I rooted for the strong selfless girl who put her brother’s happiness before her own. Beth and Ryder’s sister Roxie’s friend Michelle were both nasty characters. Roxie was tough and it will be interesting to see if she shows a softer side in a future book.
This is a farm girl version of Cinderella. Ryder and Nell are so opposite, but opposites attract, right? There are some swoon worthy moments, as well as serious obstacles, will they get their HEA?? Can a billionaire businessman really become a rancher, or a North Dakota farm girl become a NY socialite? This is a must read to find out.
I received an advanced readers copy of this book and this is my personal, ubbiased oppinion of this book.
This is an interesting cowboy retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale. In keeping with the other books in the series there is money involved. In this one Ryder is related to the great -uncle who has been giving away money to people in North Dakota. In this version Ryder has to find a wife at the ball being held at Sweet Water Ranch on May 1st. If he does not find a wife he will lose his inheritance and everything may go to his sister.
The Cinderella in this version is Nell Eastler, whose mother has died from cancer. She lives in her family’s ranch which her step-father now owns. She lives there with her two step-sisters and her half-brother, Vinton. She promised her mother before she died that she would take care of her little brother. She has become more of a parent to him than his own father.
Just like in the original fairy tale Nell has to do everything in the house and sometimes take care of the animals too. Her step-sisters do very little to help her and if she complains Nell is afraid her step-father will make her leave and she does not want to break her promise to her mother.
This one has an interesting ending that is different and unique. I liked that the epilogue ties up some of the loose ends in the story, especially about the magic or lack of magic in the designer heels. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Cowboys Don’t Believe in Fairy Tales
Jessie Gussman
Ryder needs to be married to inherit the billions he is use to. He’s on his way to sweet water ranch where they have a few weeks before a ball is to take place and he is to choose a bride. On the way he stops for Nell who has a flat.
She is dirt poor and is treated like a servant in her own home. She has two step sisters who are lazy, and a small brother who she loves and is the only reason she is still around.
Good book, Ryder has been hurt in the past, and Nell is being hurt now.
Will he pick Nell or will he pick a snooty girl named Michelle? I wanted to hit Roxie for telling Nell she wasn’t basically good enough for Ryder.
My disclaimer…
