*Previously titled Cowboys Don’t Have a Marriage of Convenience*
It was supposed to be simple.
Marry the tall Texan. Her children get a father. They save the ranch.
A business transaction, nothing more. She definitely wasn’t going to fall in love. After her husband ran off with her little sister, she was no longer susceptible to cowboy charm.
Except, the North Dakota girl had never met a … charm.
Except, the North Dakota girl had never met a Texas cowboy.
He married her for the ranch.
A former champion bull rider needs a spread to call home, even if it is in North Dakota.
Even if it comes with four little kids.
And a big, black, slobbering dog.
Especially if it comes with a woman with enough sweetness and enough toughness to rope his heart and heal it.
The cowboy’s not afraid of anything…except losing his heart again.
Reviews for The Cowboy’s Convenient Marriage:

This sweet, and at times heartbreaking story is a 5+ stars story and a great addition the series.
If you have read the previous books (and I highly recommend you read them because they are wonderful) you met Elaine. A single, struggling mom with 4 small children. This is her story.
Remington/Rem Martinez is a Texan professional bull rider that after losing the ranch he thought would be his , has been approached by their mutual friend, Ford Hanson.
Elaine is one of the recipients of a letter informing her that she will get 1 billion dollars if she marries and stays in North Dakota. With the prospect of a ranch for Rem, and the possibility of help with her ranch, Elaine and Rem , two strangers, see this as a win-win for both of them.
But even when life throws them a curveball , a tentative relationship begins and though struggling to stay afloat, the children and North Dakota become important to Rem.
This is a story filled with the ups and downs of life for the couple , the children, and life on a ranch in North Dakota.
At times heartbreaking, at others heartwarming, it’s a story about hope, new beginnings and second chances in life and love.
Another winner in this series.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I LOVED IT!
I think I’ve loved every one of the books in the “Cowboys Don’t” books by Jessie Gussman.
Every one of them is a stand alone, but each has a couple people from a previous book but just a bit part.
Each one of these books is a favorite to me, if that’s possible.
This book is the story of Rem and Elaine. A mother of four who needs a husband in order to receive a billion dollars to save her ranch. Wow! What a story!
You’ll love Rem and how he takes everything and everyone in as his own. Elaine’s been hurt but is stalwart.
I loved this book and highly recommend it!
Of all the books in this series by Jessie Gussman, I think this one is my favorite simply because, after being told they would NOT be getting the billion dollars they were counting on when they made the agreement to get married, they decided to try to make a go of it anyway. This is what a true marriage should look like.
I listened to this on Audible and I can’t imagine anyone doing a better job than Jay Dyess.
Reading this romance was like breathing in a sweet, refreshing gust of air that cleared my mind of current worries and concerns. I needed an uplifting, positive romance read and I found it in The Cowboy’s Convenient Marriage. I’d never read a story by Ms. Gussman before and I am pleased that my first book by this author ended up being a great experience.
The premise is simple. Rich guy leaves a lot of money to various people after he dies, but puts restrictions and provisos that seem ridiculous and unattainable at first glance. I don’t know how other books fared in the series, but in this book, even though it uses a well-known trope, the business arrangement of a marriage, or a marriage of convenience, was perfectly executed and delightfully told.
Rem is a banged up cowboy who has ridden his last champion bull. Elaine is a woman who’s burdened by choosing love and motherhood over the sometimes easier but often-chosen path of shared parenting in her divorce. Her burden isn’t because she chose single-parenthood – it’s because her family legacy and love of the land she called home is causing a hardship that was forcing her to face a choice she didn’t want to make – sell the farm. She’s hanging on by the skin of her teeth when Rem steps up to the plate.
I found it interesting that the author used other people, who must have been characters from a previous romance story, to vet and verify the quality and veracity of Rem and Elaine’s characters so the story could jump right into the good stuff. Two strangers agree to marry to secure their own ends and meet their most pressing concerns but end up doing the very last thing they thought they’d do – fall in love and heal the needs, hopes and lost dreams of their hearts. It’s their journey that the book is about and it’s filled with family, love, sacrifice and gentle humor.
There are too many details to cover that justify my high rating of this novel. I don’t want to accidentally spill spoilers either, so I’ll be vague. Rem’s growing relationship with Elaine’s four children is heartwarming to watch. The dog is sparsely applied but effective comic relief. Rem’s estranged relationship with his father and brother is briefly explored but provided interesting insight. Rem’s mom kind of rubbed me the wrong way – passive aggressive manipulation isn’t a favorite ploy of mine, but I still get the feeling that Rem loves his mom anyway, and she did love her son. The description of inside the home he grew up in kind of makes me understand why his mom might be the way she is. And, I’m really glad Rem ends up in North Dakota. I respect a man who makes his own decisions and makes his way in the world by not backing down from challenges. Elaine’s situation is a huge challenge to be sure, and the hero is more than up to the task of dealing with what looks to be insurmountable financial odds. I say insurmountable because the rich guy’s bequest might not be the boon everyone expected. How Rem deals with that is what makes him an awesome hero.
I would classify this romance as sensual. There are passionate thoughts, kisses and temptations but I appreciated that when the time finally came to be husband and wife in more than name only, the bedroom door closed. I am left knowing that they were satisfied with that part of their relationship and it was blissful, but I didn’t need explicit scenes to believe that their love and compatibility in that arena was genuine and beautiful.
The Cowboy’s Convenient Marriage ends with an emotionally satisfying happy ever after with feelings of joy, contentment and the knowledge that they are now truly one big happy family where love and faith guide and nurture their hearts. The epilogue also includes a very effective hook for the next installment of the series. I’ll have to check it out because it sounds interesting and if it’s anything like this story, I’ll be in for another great read.
Another really good book in the Sweet Water Ranch Series. This time it is Elaine who has to be married to get the billion dollars that was left to her. She is a mother of 4 and can barely make ends meet. She talks to Ford and Morgan about the letter and Ford checks out a guy he knows to marry Elaine and take care of her and her 4 children. He agrees because he wants the money and ranch.
She just needs someone to help her get the money and take care of the place for her. Neither one had met the other one until the day before they got married.
I love all the characters in this series and Remington and Elaine were no exception. The kids played a great part as well in the story.
I think the narrator Jay Dyess played a big part in bringing the characters to life and putting feeling into the story bringing the pages to life. If you have a chance to check these books out on Audio you really need too. They come to life right before your eyes.
I really enjoyed Rem and Elaine’s story. They both were overcoming heartache and choosing a difficult path. I especially liked the emphasis on the children. I’m excited to read the next book!
Audio:
It’s amazing to me that even though I read this series earlier this year, I am so much enjoying listening to them! I really thing this one hit the heart even harder through audio.
Rem is a gentleman, Texas cowboy. Though being famous, tall, dark, and handsome; Rem has been hurt worse by a woman than he ever was while on the rodeo circuit.
Elaine was abandoned by her husband…for her sister. Pregnant and left alone to raise her kids on a failing ranch, Elaine has spent the last few years exhausted and barely holding on.
When these two strangers roll the dice on a marriage of convenience, trust in God’s loving hands to provide is the one commodity that they both rely on. Can they find trust and maybe something more with each other?
Clean and full of romance.
This couple more than most deserve one another. Hard worker and driven doesn’t come close to what they individually and together are willing to do for what is needed. I hope we get to see how they get along with everything.
I really liked this book. Rem is great playing with Elaine’s 4 kids making life an adventure & fun. They develop a deep relationship & the story of just fun to listen to. I received a free audible copy from the author. This is my honest, voluntary review
The Cowboy’s Convenient Marriage was such a sweet read! I loved getting to know Rem (who is from TX!), and how he was all in for their marriage, even though it was one of convenience. I loved how he slowly fell in love with Elaine and how she was perfect for him, hard-working yet needing his help. I loved watching the two together slowly fall for each other, as well as learning the dynamics of a family of 6. I also loved how the epilogue ties it up but also introduces us to the next book.
I’m pretty sure this book hooked me up for Ms. Gussman’s writing. Completely recommended!
I adore this series. It can definitely be a stand alone, but the series is awesome! The characters are realistic. They have their personal battles and financial issues like most people I know. I enjoy the faith based aspect of this book and it’s a good reminder to me to keep my eyes on God. The writing style of the author is right up my alley.
I received a free copy of this book and have chosen to give my honest opinion.
Rem is going to marry Elaine in order to gain one milion dollars. Elaine needs the money to take care of her four kids and her ranch. Can they make their marriage works even without the money? An story of true love, friendship, sacrifices and tough choices. the audiobook is amazing, Mr. Dyess does a wonderful work with Jesse’s words
Cowboys Don’t Have A Marriage of Convenience is a full on rush to get a husband for Elaine to marry within 6 month in order for her to receive her billion dollar inheritance, which was about to run out. Her friends Ford and Morgan had a friend that was a former champion bull rider that was looking to buy a ranch and settle down. They had just returned from getting married and had received their inheritance and Elaine was also trying to get her billion dollar inheritance as her husband left her with 4 little children and no assistance. Ford thought that Rem would be good for Elaine and help build up her ranch and it would be a business deal. But, fortunately they could not keep from falling in love and the children wanted him to be their daddy. But they receive news that she was sent the letter in error after they had married. But this family is in for a lot of twists and turns yet to be discovered, and yes they stay married.
Cowboy’s Don’t Have A Marriage of Convenience by Jessie Gussman
I have to say that Rem and Elaine’s story was my favorite so far in this series! The trust they develop as they start to get to know one another’s characters, the slow burn attraction, the determined commitment to their marriage vows and their family. I could go on and on! What an amazing love story! I didn’t want it to end…
The pacing of this novel was just right and there was never too much angst, at least for my taste. There are some lovely kissing scenes, too.
I can’t wait to hear it on audiobook. Ms. Gussman has the most amazing narrator for her other books, Mr. Dyer, and he takes her excellent writing and makes it even more life-like and compelling.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
Would you marry someone you don’t know or love, for a billion dollars? In order to save the ranch, that is what Rem and Elizabeth did. A marriage of convenience. Love wasn’t part of the bargain, but you can’t stop the feelings that arise when you live together. But there were some rough times. There were also the kids to consider. It was an instant family. So how do strangers enter into a contract to save a ranch and end up in love? You will have to read the book to find that out. I voluntarily read the ARC book.
I’ve read all the books in this series so far (and have loved them all!) And I was excited to read Elaine’s story, since she’s been mentioned in a couple of books now. Her story was worth the wait! There were a couple of twists that I did NOT see coming. It did not go in the expected direction, so that was a pleasant surprise.
A fun enjoyable marriage of Convenience romance. This engaging storyline was unique and unpredictable as obstacles are overcome, misinformation and a few twists. The characters are interesting and well developed with lots of chemistry. Rem and Elaine have had time trusting they both have been betrayed by their own family members but beautiful to watch love grow as they struggle to overcome. It’s great having cameos from previous characters in this entertaining standalone. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.
Rem wants a ranch! As a former bull riding champion, Rem made plenty of money but he put it all into his father’s ranch expecting to someday inherit half of the ranch. Now his dad has cut Rem out of his will! Elaine’s ex-husband is a real jerk who left her for her little sister and signed over parental rights if he did not have to pay child support for their four children! Elaine is trying to hang onto her family ranch by herself. Elaine will receive a billion dollars if she marries and stays in North Dakota! A friend vets Rem and introduces him to Elaine. They marry the next day in order to get the billion dollars and both have the ranch! You will love kind hearted Rem who shows Elaine and her children that there really are caring men out there! I thoroughly enjoy Cowboys Don’t Have a Marriage of Convenience. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
I loved this book! I’ve read the others and they were great too; Jesse just keeps one-uping herself. A clean, sweet marriage of convenience that pulls at the heart strings. Rem not only gets a wife but a family and it’s just right. He falls in love with his wife and her children and the feeling is mutual. Perseverance, hardwork, forgiveness, family, friends and love….these are just some of the things this book makes you think about. Book #6, here I come .
I’ve read several of Jessie Gussman’s books in this series. Each adds a depth to the characters in the story.
Elaine is a woman whose husband left her for her younger sister, leaving her with her family’s ranch and no way to support their four children. He signed away his parental rights for 1/2 the worth of the farm. Now, Elaine has a huge debt and no way to pay it back. She needs help! Her friend, Ford, says he has a friend who can help her out.
Remington “Rem” is a friend of Ford’s who had a very successful character as a professional bull rider. He was betrayed by his fiancé’ and brother and then his father gave away the farm to his brother. Rem needs a change and Ford has proposed a marriage of convenience to his friend, Elaine. Elaine has a letter stating that she has inherited a billion dollars if she gets married. Rem is a Texas cowboy in need of farm and Elaine is a North Dakota farm girl in need of a husband. Both can make this work if they don’t let feelings get involved. Is that even possible when they begin to see such wonderful qualities in each other and begin to think about a happy ever after?
This is a clean romance with plenty of chemistry. I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
