I loved reading The Cowboy Meets His Match. I haven’t read a Margaret Brownley book I didn’t love. This novel starts off with a bang—cattle stampede through town which causes enough confusion that several things happen by accident. A wonderful unique twist on a mail-order-bride story. The characters leapt into my heart, and the story is action-packed to the end. I didn’t want to let these characters go.
A book full of sweet bluster and the anticipation of when two people realize that they are in love.
Emily Rose came to Texas to marry a pharmacy but in the confusion of a stampede she ended up marrying a rancher named Chase McKnight. Chase was intending to marry a widow to help save his ranch and what he ended up getting was well…Emily.
They weren’t to sure what to make of one another but as time passed the one thing that neither one of them intended happened.
It’s an incredible read that Margaret Bownley gives you with this book.
Emily Fields ran from Boston hoping to escape the scandal of her uncle’s criminal ways. She answered the ad for a mail-order bride. She had been corresponding with a man from a small town in Texas. When she arrived, she found herself being married, at “gunpoint”. Once the wedding was done, she realized she had married the wrong man. Instead of the pharmacist, she married the wealthy rancher, Chase McKnight.
Chase is in a battle for his family’s ranch. His father’s will stipulates that he has to marry first and have a real marriage for a year in order to keep the ranch from his conniving stepbrother. He had agreed to marry a widow with small children to help each other out. She was a hard worker and could help him on the ranch, even though there was only friendship between them. When he lifted the veil of his bride, he realized his mistake. This was a woman who was used to privilege and servants, not someone who was a hard worker and could help him on the ranch. What was he going to do now?
This was a sweet and clean story of how love can develop and grow and when their secrets get out, they have to work together to save their ranch.
I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.
I adored this book! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it definitely wont be the last! I’ve found a new author that I will be reading a lot more of! The characters were wonderful and I loved the story line! Imagine marrying someone accidentally? HA! Chase and Emily eventually come to love each other but I loved how the author showed that happening. It took time and patience for both of them, especially in the old west. Emily was a city girl and knew nothing of ranch life, plus she was raised in wealthy surroundings in the East so a Texas ranch would have been totally foreign to her! I loved her compassion to a sweet blind girl that lived on the ranch with her housekeeper mother and how she tried to fit in with the ranch hands. Chase was also quite patient with her. All in all, it was a wonderful book that I would highly recommend!
This is a sweet mail order bride story. Chase and Emily are endearing characters.Although, they were married by accident, it turned into something more. This is a heartwarming read with wonderful characters and an interesting storyline. I would definitely recommend this book.
Every now and then I like to read a mail order bride book. This light and easy read takes us to dusty Texas more than a Century ago. I imagine a hard life for women, the property of men if they want to survive. This was a marriage of convenience, actually by accident. These characters are chalk and cheese, hilarious to see them adjust. I enjoyed the setting and the mystery of the rustlers. Great story, I loved it.
The Cowboy Meets His Match is the second book in the Haywire Brides Series, and it’s every bit as enjoyable as Cowboy Charm School, the first book in the series. I am hoping this series goes on and on and on.
The story starts with a funny (well, funny to us, not so much to Chase and Emily) case of mistaken identity. Chase has to get married to keep his ranch. Emily leaves the East to escape her family’s scandal and become a mail-order bride. Emily has never seen her groom-to-be. Chase knows who he is planning to marry, but between a stampede, Emily’s huge wedding veil and general chaos they end up marrying each other. When they discover the (horrifying) truth it still seems to be in their best interest to remain married for a year. And the fun – and romance – begin.
Chase and Emily are very, very different people, with different backgrounds and different expectations. But there’s a spark there. And they are both honorable people, in situations really not of their own making.
Author Margaret Brownley takes us on a delightful journey through 1882 Texas. Emily is a fancy lady from Boston, huge wedding veil and all. How is she going to ever convince anyone she is a rancher’s wife? Chase certainly doesn’t see how it will be possible. But the spark grows. Emily grows to love the ranch and Chase, and Chase has a companion, helper and a love he never expected. Of course there are enough scoundrels in their path to make things dangerous and interesting, and Emily’s relationship with little Ginny is sweet and heartwarming.
The Cowboy Meets His Match is a very satisfying read that I highly recommend. The story mixes a little mystery and suspense in with the humor, sweetness, love and romance. You should read it – you’ll love it. Here’s hoping there is a Haywire Brides #3!
MY THOUGHTS ON THIS BOOK
The Cowboy Meets His Match is the second book in the Haywire Brides Series, and listen people, it’s just as hilarious as the first one. Chase McKnight has one year to marry and prove his marriage is ligit in order to secure his family ranch. Chase’s problem is, he marries the first lady who gets off the coach, and oops, she happens to be the wrong one. So, what’s he gonna do, he only has a year to prove his marriage, and his new wife knows nothing about a ranch. Chase might as well give it up.
I laughed at Chase and Emily all the way through this book. They were both as different as day and night. But as they spent time together and as Emily gets use to the ranch, the story gets even sweeter. But will it be enough. For the life of him, Chase has no idea why his dad left his half brother in the run to inherit the ranch, it should be Chase’s fair and square. But it is not, and believe me, this is a journey that will keep you on your toes. If you enjoy westerns, you will love this new read from author Margaret Brownley. And I want to add, though Ms. Brownley writes awesome Christian fiction, this one is not in this category. It is a clean historical fiction read with the same unique writing style and the same humor and laughter as all of her books are.
