This is a romance that is intriguing from beginning to end. If you don’t absolutely fall in love with Carter Westbrook, you can’t possibly have a romantic bone in your body. Charlotte (Lottie) Danvers is just as admirable as Carter – meaning we have two very likable, very relatable, very charming people who are working toward their HEA. Carter is calm, steady, patient, and absolutely determined when it comes to something he wants – and he wants Lottie. Lottie is beautiful, smart, educated, graceful, sweet, caring, dedicated to her friends, and seems to become a klutz whenever Carter is around.
Charlotte was raised first by a lovely caring couple in the countryside of England and then at a boarding school outside Paris. Her mother wanted her to live outside London and not have to breathe the nasty air – and then, of course, she needed an education. Even when she’d finished her schooling, at her mother’s encouragement, she stayed on to teach at the school. During all of that, she and her mother managed to be very close. Her mother visited her regularly when she was in the countryside and twice a month when she was in France.
Charlotte decided to leave her position at the school and surprise her mother in London. However, when she arrived, unannounced, at her mother’s home in London, Charlotte is the one who got quite a surprise. Her whole world shattered when she learned the truth about her mother’s life. Charlotte left for Bath the very next day, changed her name to Lottie, and has remained there, estranged from her mother, for a year.
Lottie has shunned any social involvement during the year she’s been back in England because she is afraid someone will recognize her since she looks so much like her mother. She would love to go to assemblies, parties, etc. but she just can’t risk the exposure. She has to make an exception to that when one of her best friends is getting married in London. So, she dons a disguise (spectacles) and prays no one will make the connection between her and her mother. Sadly, she meets a man – the kind of man she could have loved if her circumstances were different.
Carter is attending his best friend’s wedding and is intrigued by the best friend of the bride. She is lovely, graceful and very standoffish. He is confident he can win her over – he’s never had a problem with ladies before. This one seems much more resistant than anyone else has ever been – but, he’s a patient man – he’ll win her over.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I hope you will as well. It was lovely to see these two lovely, deserving people find their HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A delightful addition to this series. Little has had a wonderful upbringing…starting with life in the country then off to a French boarding school. When she graduated she became a teacher at that school. All during her life her mother had come to see her. She told her daughter that London was too dirty for her to visit. After working several years and saving her money Lottie went to see her mother and discovers the her mother was a courtesan. Lottie fled and settled in Bath. This is where her love story begins.
This is the second in Callie Hutton’s series The Merry Misfits of Bath. This book tells the story of Lottie, who after years at school in France finds out her beloved mother is a courtesan. She moves to Bath where she meets 2 other ladies who also escaped there. The 3 become fast friends. It is at her friends Addie’s wedding she meets the dashing Carter, who is immediately captivated. Lottie tried hard to fight the attraction knowing her past could ruin everything. As expected there are a few bumps in the road and surprises along the way. Ultimately love wins out. This is a delightful, easy read. As always Callie delivers, highly recommend this book.
What a beautifully written story. Lottie’s plight saddened my heart and Carter made me swoon.
Carter is a very special character. He’s kind, handsome and determined. Each day, Lottie discovers herself and finds her confidence. She wants love, but does not know if it’s possible. Carter, before Lottie, wasn’t interested in love.
Once I read the first page, I was hooked. I did not want to put it down until I reached the very last satisfying page.
A surprising love story, not because of the plot itself, but because of the blurb.
At first glance it may seem that Charlotte is a spoiled girl who, being ungrateful, denies her mother when she found out that she was a famous courtesan.
However, Lottie turns out to be a graceful, intelligent and dreamy young woman who, realizing that Carter is romantically interested in her – and he makes it very clear a few days after they met each other – she finds herself in the confrontation of listening to her heart or do what is right.
Oh,, and get ready to fall in love with Carter.

Miss Charlotte Danvers learns the hard way the mother she loves is a courtesan, she runs away and hide in Bath away from society to have try and have a normal life. Mr. Carter Westbrooke is a friend of Charlotte’s best friend’s husband, Lord Berkshire. Carter is quite intrigued by the beautiful young woman and decides to romance her and declares she will be his wife. After much discussion she confesses who her mother is and the wed. This is an enchanting story of young love, romance and forgiveness. An excellent story with wonderful characters I voluntarily wrote a review for.
Perfect timing for this one to get into it and get into back in the day way back that is. Miss Charlotte is the one who will give a giggle or two with her reaction to what she finds out about her mother. Of course though she was quite upset and sets her path else where. Along the path comes Mr. Carter and this takes off to be a bit of a battle of wills. The romance is divine and them with their interaction with each other has us transfixed. The characters are adorable with you wanting them to come to a agreeable conclusion because of the romance that is in the air when they are together. Lottie carries too much of a burden I think she did not have to but understood that went with the times. You will come away from this thoroughly satisfied.
I could not help but empathize and feel badly for the heroine, Miss Charlotte Danvers whose fear and shame kept her from living a full life. Even though she had her two best friends, she never divulged anything about herself to them. She hid from society hoping never to be discovered for who she was. She meets Mr. Carter Westbrooke and although attracted to him she tries to steer clear of him for fear of discovery. But Carter is smitten with Charlotte and will not give her up without a fight. Charlotte and Carter are two characters that are easy to identify with. Charlotte is kind and thoughtful full of fear and suspicion of men. Whereas Carter is a confident businessman. Successful and the third son of an Earl. Carter knew Charlotte was hiding something and wanted to gain Charlotte’s confidence to find out what it was that made her so fearful. Little did Charlotte know that Carter had a sorted secret of his own that he never shared with anyone. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Charlotte and Carter’s romance had many painful obstacles and yet they persevered to overcome. The epilogue was a nice touch to tie up any loose ends. I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next book about Pamela. I highly recommend this book and the series.
Loved the story. After having spent the majority of her life in France in a girl’s finishing school and later as a teacher, Charlotte returns to London to surprise her mother. Unfortunately, Charlotte is the one surprised to learn her mother is a famous courtesan. She leaves for Bath and calls herself Lottie and there she meets Carter. Because of her mother, she thinks herself unworthy. The story revolves around how their love develops and his he breaks down the barriers she erected. It us well written, entertaining and worth reading. I would recommend this book as a great clean romance.
Discovering the truth about her mother, Charlotte flees London and take up residence in Bath. There she makes two special friends and when one of them gets married, she attracts Carter’s interest. Carter is a patient man and Lottie’s avoidance of him piques his interest. However, the truth eventually catches up with Lottie and Carter makes it his mission to protect her and show his love for her. The story is fraught with angst and tension as Lottie’s connection with her mother becomes evident and also because she dreads pulling down Carter’s good name. In an era where the sins of the parents are visited on the children, and even more especially if it is the daughter of the family, one can understand Lottie’s fears and the lengths she went to in order to keep her identity a secret. Carter is a charming and warmhearted gentleman, making it difficult for Lottie to turn him away. Whilst love does win the day, it is not without emotional turmoil. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
The Courtesan’s Daughter And The Gentleman is a fantastic historical romance by Callie Hutton. Ms. Hutton has provided readers with a spectacular, well-written story populated with a magnificent cast of characters. Charlotte leaves her job in France and arrives in London to surprise her mother. The surprise is on Charlotte, her mother is a famous courtesan. Charlotte runs off to start a new life. Carter tries to get to know Charlotte but she tries to hide, always afraid someone will recognize her as her mother’s daughter. Charlotte and Carter’s story is loaded with drama, humor, action and spice. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Callie Hutton. The Courtesan’s Daughter And The Gentleman is book 2 of The Merry Misfits of Bath Series but can easily be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this story of Charlotte and Carter. Charlotte has left her elite school in France and have came to London to see her mother. When she arrives at her mother’s townhouse she is stunned to discover her mother is a well known courtesan. After finding this out she leaves her mother’s townhouse and goes to live in Bath. She meets Carter Westbrook through close friends. After a few weeks Carter declares his intentions to make her his wife. She has no intention to become a wife to any man. This book was fun to read to see if Carter would win Charlotte heart.
I received a complimentary copy from the author. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

Carter falls hard for Lottie & is determined to make her his wife.
A well written story that really pulls at your heart strings. I loved Lottie who had the shock of her life when she discovered her mother was an infamous courtesan. Lottie is loving & caring but also terrified that someone will discover she’s a courtesan’s daughter & is thoroughly ashamed of it. I absolutely adored Carter, one of the loveliest heroes I’ve ever come across, he’s determined to court & marry Lottie even though he’s rebuffed at very turn, he quickly discovers that Lottie is hiding a secret & strives to learn what it is. The road to their HEA isn’t smooth but it was a riveting read that I found hard to put down. This is the second book in the series & it could be read on its own but with all series I have to read them in order & this is no exception
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

My review :
When a young miss with a shameful history meets the man of her dream, do they have a future together …
I just devoured this book in a few instants. I was at first afraid the heroine’s shame will hold her back and keep her in check, not allowing her any move but Mrs Callie Hutton surprised me again.
I’m in love, (again, I know !), Carter is so much more I would ever be able to express. He knows who he is and he does not refrain him, it shaped him in such a wonderful man, full of acceptance and openness.
Nothing will deter him to pursue Lottie, he knows very soon he has met the right woman for him, why he accepts to give her time and space, he senses she hides something but no big secret will ward off his own feelings.
Mrs Callie Hutton brought to life a so refreshing character, he is truly the knight in shinning armor any girl might dream of. His so positive vision of life is astonishing, he knows what he wants and with whom, he does not ponder his sentiments, he embraces them what comes with them.
Lottie, I was afraid her past will hold her on leash, in some way it does, but Carter is at every new step by her side, standing for and by her.
He brings light to her dark thoughts, he enlivens her dread moments, he is her angel of hope, not once does he fails her.
As a result of which Lottie can’t run away, she might try but Carter is there to show her she counts first and the rest does not matter.
A sweet tale of the power of love as it shows it does not stop at the first challenge nor at a difference of rank.

An extremely romantic story worth reading!
The Courtesan’s Daughter and the Gentleman is Callie Hutton at her finest! She has outdone herself with her new series ‘The Merry Misfits of Bath’! I could not put it down! I finished it in an afternoon. The perfect quick read for lovers of Victorian romances. Ms. Hutton didn’t disappoint me! Some scenes are so well written that they made me giggle. This is one example of a book that makes me love Victorian romance! SO ROMANTIC!
The Courtesan’s Daughter is Charlotte and the Gentleman is named Carter. Spending many years in France, Charlotte quits her teaching position and decides to surprise her mother. However, things didn’t happen as she had expected. Disappointed by her mother, she leaves London and moves to Bath where her life will forever change for the better. She then takes a new identity as a quiet and sweet young lady until a charming gentleman enters her life. Together, they will embark on a journey of ups and downs! Can Charlotte trust Carter enough to tell him her secret? What will happen next? Will she run again or tell him the truth? Carter is truly a charming man, sometimes overprotective but always the perfect gentleman! This was the story of two endearing characters that you won’t soon forget!
I purchased this as part of a bundle the author offered called THE MERRY MISFITS OF BATH: Books 1-3.
I must admit I probably wouldn’t have purchased this if it wasn’t part of a bundle and that would have been a huge mistake on my part. I don’t care for stories about Courtesan’s. But, this story was so touching and not what I expected.
It about a daughter of the Courtesan (yes I know the title states that-lol), and she doesn’t now what her mother is until she is an adult and finds out by accident. My heart just ached for our h. She was an innocent, but society branded her with the same paint brush as her mother. I’m so thankful I didn’t live in this time period where your families actions reflected on you.
This is a clean story with only a few kisses. Both the H/h are loving, loyal and caring and I felt a connection to them from the start. Usually I like some spice in my stories, but I didn’t miss it in this.
I have enjoyed how the stories are intertwined with the 3 friends. But, if you didn’t read book 1 you will not be lost – can be a stand alone.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and clean (ljb)
Charlotte Danvers was crushed when she discovered that her mother was one of the most famous courtesans in London. To escape the scandal, she moves to Bath make a new life for herself. She becomes friends with Addie and Pamela, two other young ladies who have come to Bath to start new, and independent, lives. She meets Carter Westbrooke at Addie’s wedding. Lottie wants to live quietly and hide her background. Even though she tries to avoid and discourage him, Carter is determined to win Lottie’s heart.
Carter is handsome, caring, and quite protective of Lottie. Lottie is beautiful inside and out. She is kind and caring, a good friend and a great teacher. Carter’s parents are wonderful. His mother convinces her to see her mother (a meeting with a few happy surprises). This is a heartwarming story. There are some bumps along the road, but love finds a way. I recommend this one and look forward to Pamela’s story.
The Courtesan’s Daughter and the Gentleman is book 2 in the Merry Misfit’s of Bath series by Callie Hutton. I absolutely loved this book. Although it is the second in a series, it can be read as a stand alone. Hutton does a fantastic job of developing her characters. They come to life on the page. The heroine Miss Charlotte Danvers is so relatable. Once she discovers that her mother is a famous London courtesan, Charlotte feels torn with her own identity. Will she let her mother’s disgraceful lifestyle define her? A truly wonderful book, I couldn’t put it down. I hear she plans on writing a third book about Charlotte’s friend Lady Pamela. Can’t wait
