Well, this certainly was quite the page turner! I am pleasantly surprised to have found a new mystery and thriller author that I want to keep reading! Shari Lapena’s book The Couple Next Door was a brilliant suspense novel that kept me on the edge of my seat!
Anne and Marco Conti are new parents to a six-month-old baby, Cora. They’re financially comfortable and they have a fantastic marriage, not to mention a new baby. Their life seems to be perfect.
As many new parents do, they don’t go out very often. Yet, when their neighborhood friends invite them over for a dinner party, they’re excited to go, well at least Marco is. Anne, on the other hand, would rather stay home, especially since the neighbors, Cynthia and Graham Stillwell, do not want children at their party. Anne agrees to go to the party after the sitter cancels, but only if she can bring the baby monitor, leaving their newborn, Cora, home alone.
While at the party, Anne has difficulty enjoying herself. It’s no wonder why, as her friend Cynthia, is blatantly flirting with her husband Marco. Even with a glass of wine in her, Anne can see how Cynthia is far more beautiful than her, she did just have a baby. On top of all that, Anne has seen a change in her husband Marco, something has been off, is he hiding something from her?
By early in the morning, Anne wants to go home, but Marco is enjoying himself too much. She becomes irritated and decides to go home, with Marco trailing behind her. As they walk up to their door, they notice it’s open. Anne is certain she shut it when she went to check on Cora last. They both run upstairs to check on Cora, but the crib is empty.
What comes next is a whirlwind of twists and suspense, lies and domestic disputes. Nothing in this book is what it seems and the character development is insane! There was never a dull moment in this novel!
Shari Lapena’s book The Couple Next Door is a fast-paced, intense, thriller that had me hooked from the beginning to the end! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book that keeps you guessing from start to finish; let’s not forget the shock value when the culprit is revealed. You will not see that one coming! I enjoyed this book so much, that I went out and got her next book A Stranger in the House! Stay tuned for my review on that book soon! What a bloody wild ride!

This book had me guessing all the way to the end. I never guessed who it was that would be eventually arrested. The ending is shocking!!!
I love mystery/thrillers and this one didn’t disappoint.
Anne and Marco Conti are the perfect couple. They are beautiful, successful, and they just had their first baby, a beautiful daughter. One night, when their daughter is six months old, they go next door to a party at a friends’ house, they bring the baby monitor and check on the baby every half hour, so what could go wrong, right? The baby is kidnapped! What a nightmare!
This story has so many twists and turns! Just when you think you have it figured out, everything changes. And this happens again and again! It is quite a ride!
To top it off, this book is filled with realistic, diverse, and interesting characters. The imagery of the some of the scenes is amazing! The ending is a shocker! This would make an amazing movie!
Don’t waste your time.
This book kept me hooked from the first page. So many twists. Read it in two days.
Suspenseful
A formulatic thriller . Nothing new here: filled with improbable coincidences that move the plot along in ever more unlike ly steps. Do not recommend
Twisty thriller. I couldn’t put it down. I kept saying just one more chapter and then there were no more chapters.
Anne and Marco….. that damn Marco – The plot twists throughout did keep me on my toes. The ending was one I didn’t see coming Overall, I would give it 4 mainly because a lot of the narrative was repetitive…
What really did happen on that night? Can the wife or husband figure it out in the end.
An easy read, it was recommended by a friend. I DID find it easy to pick up, though some of the dialogue seemed a bit contrived. Surprise ending and an overall quick read!
I couldn’t stop reading this psychological thriller! Every time I thought I had it all figured out, another twist hit me in the face, and I never saw any of them coming. Brilliantly plotted and paced.
I couldn’t put this book down! Fast paced, easy read. Highly recommend.
Unpredictable twist and turns.
Readable but not the best book I’ve read. I found it a bit disappointing.
This was an okay book, interesting and suspenseful in spots, and I did read the whole book but unfortunately I had figured out the end.
This is the story of a young couple named Marco and Anne. They have a young baby, named Cora. One night, while Cora sleeps, Marco and Anne go next door to a party with their neighbors. Anne is reluctant to leave the baby home alone, but the sitter canceled at the last minute. Marco talks Anne into taking the baby monitor – they can hear Cora if she fusses while she sleeps, and they agree to take turns checking on her every half an hour.
They return home after the party to find Cora missing from her bed. The front door was left open but no signs of forced entry. Frantic, Anne immediately calls the police and this starts an investigation into where the baby has gone. Everyone is a suspect – the parents, the neighbors, a mysterious stranger. Anne and Marco will do anything to get Cora back alive even if that means lying to protect their past secrets.
This is an okay book. It was a fast read – I didn’t want to put it down until I found out who did it. None of the characters are particularly likable – the only one I felt bad for was the baby. The title doesn’t make much sense to me, honestly. The couple next door – are they talking about Marco and Anne? Are they the couple? Or are they talking about their neighbors – whom they went to the party with? That doesn’t make much sense either because the husband of that couple is barely in the book. And the wife – just a bit. Just an odd title choice.
It was fine. If you are looking for something to pass the time on an airplane or on the beach, then this would be a good book for that.
So many twists and turns. Keeps the readers on their toes throughout the entire book.
Wonderful book, great build up, and amazing finished. Kept me wondering what was next. Ended way better then what I thought it would.
