Took me awhile to get into this book but I did enjoy it.
Loved the characters of Grace, Emily, James, Tristram, Julia and others. Small town life has its drawbacks and appeal, but most appealing is the feeling of family and people helping people. Read book 2 first, now I look forward to reading May’s story.
The second in the series, this book is as good, if not better, than the first. The story takes place again in the coastal town of Pengelly in Cornwall. While many of the original characters, Emily, Julia, Andy, Tamsin, and Tristram but this time they are all there getting to know and love May’s birthdaughter, Grace, and a visitor to town, James. Will, Julia’s long estranged brother-in-law comes back to visit as well. This story is filled with love and sorrow, confusion and joy, and secrets and revelations. It is well worth the read and I certainly hope it isn’t the last in this series. I would love to visit with everyone in Pengelly again!
A quirky book for a quirky major character, even if she is dead! I enjoyed this book, but I did find it occasionally turgid, and wanted to give the author a “come on, put some hustle in your step!” nudge. Classic story of an a child given up at birth, looking for her birth mother, but this character doesn’t learn the truth of her life until she’s in her fifties. It’s a great twist on a common theme, and there are many more waiting.
Unfortunately, her mother died only recently, at a very great age. And she was a wild one! Learning about her is not just an exploration for the daughter, but for readers, too.
The book is set in Cornwall, I believe, in a village peopled with interesting individuals and a number of unique views of the now deceased character.
I recommend the Cottage of Curiosities to anyone who likes to read a book that breaks out of the common molds that abound.
I enjoyed this book!
Good storyline!
I have not read this author before, but I will read more of her books. What a wonderful time I had with this book. There are moments in this story all of us can relate to, learn from and hope for. I feel like I’ve been hugged!
This truly magical sequel to 59 Memory Lane takes the reader back to coastal Cornwall to meet up with some old characters, and to meet some new ones.
Secrets are unraveled, friendships are formed and old mysteries come to the surface.
A beautifully written story, which I have no hesitation in recommending.
I enjoyed this story so much. I had read the first book some time ago but as soon as I started reading the characters came flooding back to me. This is mainly Grace’s story and her quest to find out more about her mother and possibly who her father was. However, it is so much more, it tackles the feeling of loneliness and memory loss and how that makes a person feel. Also that it is never too late to love. Grace has a gift and she is wondering how she can use it to help others. The writing just flows along and it makes an easy and delightful story to read. It could be read as a standalone but the reader will appreciate the characters more, if the first book is read. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
