Enjoyed descriptions of Corfu and some of the adventures, but overall disappointing…..too many boring details and silly parent behavior. Couldn’t finish.
This book had me laughing outloud! The characters and descriptions are so engaging. One of the most entertaining stories ever!
Lyrical and funny. The view of a bohemian family in an idyllic setting.
Having wat he’d the PBS series, this collection provided background “Color” to the series. Funny, colorful and entertaining!
Gerald Durrell’s humor and sharp observations of the natural world (including his own very original family) are an unbeatable combination. These are the three books on which the PBS series The Durrells in Corfu was based.
The writing is clear, and clever; it is as if an old friend were telling you stories from his life. Re-reading it from time to time is a pleasure.
Loved the PBS series and the books had me laughing out loud.
I watched the PBS series first and the book reads just like the TV show. Great discriptions.
These characters just cracked me up!! Gerald Durrell’s family is quite funny and the setting is perfect.
I enjoyed this book. It was entertaining, humorous as well as informative about about animals and a certain class of English people at that time. Delightful.
a long favorite series. The TV series is immensely disappointing, so do yourself a favor and read these delightful books instead
Spanned generations with ease.
I loved this book. The family are quirky, admirable and charming, gritty, and real. I learned more about the natural world than I ever expected to know and in a delightful way. I highly recommend this book.
Great writing and story.
Every day was filled with unpredictable incidents in the life of this eccentric family. Very intertwining.
What a fantastic family! Gerald Durrell captures his family’s antics and adventures in an often laugh out loud manner. As good as the Masterpiece sow on PBS is the. I’ll is 10 times better. It’s do much fun to read about the animals and watch as this young man develops into a formidable adult. I intend to purchase and read every book Gerald Durrell has written.
Clever amusing to a point. But after a while it gets repetitive.
Having read many of Gerald Durrell’s books in years past with great pleasure, this trilogy containing most of the stories of his years as a budding young naturalist living on the Greek island of Corfu with his eccentric family is a delightful way to experience again the curiosity and perspective of youth. The excellent current PBS television series based on these books should give them a new audience.
Some of the most delightful books I’ve ever read. Both funny and informative.
Not my kind of book…too whimsical
