This book was completely enjoyable. I read it in one sitting and fell in love with the story, characters, and setting. Plus, Jess is wildly alpha and apparently just what I needed. Excellent romance.
You cannot go wrong with a Devney Perry book.
This. If all romance novels were written just like this, I would definitely read more of them, a lot more of them!
I am kind of at a loss as to what to say. I loved almost everything about this book. Omg, Jess. I don’t swoon over male characters in books, but if I did, he is totally swoon worthy. Heck, I don’t usually like “alpha” males in general, but he gives a whole new definition to “alpha” male, one I could like.
Gigi. I loved her. Her insecurities grated on my nerves a few times, but it is what it is. Every single instance fit the story, so it isn’t a negative for me in this book.
The plot moved at a deliciously slower, but perfect, pace. I devoured the story and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was only one drawback for me. There is one scene, a bigger scene that is a big part of the climax of this story. It just felt, rushed, thrown in. While the book called for it, I just couldn’t connect with what was happening and the character’s personality change.
Overall, this is definitely a book so many are going to love, many already are. I highly recommend it. I will most definitely be reading the rest of this series one at a time.
I would have really liked this book if the author had not given such disgusting language to one of the main characters. I would never have dated anyone who talked that way. Too many F bombs among other bad words. I had trouble finishing the book because of this. I’m not a prude and know there are people like that but not a sheriff in polite company.
Giving it 3 stars instead of 2 simply because the basic plot was good, and there wasn’t a single typo, which is a rarity. However, Jess was way too domineering, too commanding, too rough, too moody, too aggressive, even when just chatting. The amount of times he slammed his mouth on hers, the constant use of the word fucking or fuck, even when it wasn’t warranted. Gigi was weak, and just a constant walkover, even when she decided not to be one. I’d have run a mile if my boyfriend had that attitude with me. I plodded through because I wanted to know how the side-story would pan out. I should have listened to the negative reviews.
I enjoyed this story, but not the language. It was easy to figure out some of the plot, but it was still entertaining.
Picking up a Devney book, you’re guaranteed all the good feels, small town charm and grassroots earthiness. They’re Soft & romantic, their fragrance lingering long after you’ve closed the book. On a binge read spree of her back list books, I dived headfirst into Coppersmith Farmhouse and fell head over heels in love with straight as an arrow, and just as sharp, sheriff Jess Cleary.
“Already told you tonight you were beautiful. So since we’ve got some major fucking chemistry and we get along, how about we cut the bullshit and see where this goes?”
His Jackass persona and caustic tongue made me laugh but I soon realized, as did Georgia Ellar that he had a heart of gold, Just didn’t have time to bullshit. He cuts straight to the chase without beating around the Bush, is all. And this makes Gigi really hopping mad!!
“As far as they were concerned, Jess was on my “Good” list. But as far as I was concerned? Jess was in the number two spot on my “Go to hell” list.”
Gigi and her daughter Rowen arrive from Seattle, to their inherited farm house. This sends Jess’s streamlined & structured life in a Topsy Turvy. He’s a take charge guy, and this doesn’t sit well with fiercely independent Gigi. But Roe is instantly smitten with Jess and that helps chip away the objections in her heart
“I apologized and I meant it. I was an asshole this week. Now fucking get over it.”
Jess is a force to reckon with, a go getter. if he fancies something his path is straight towards the objective, In this case Gigi. He steam rolls her carefully constructed walls and barriers and makes her his girlfriend, whether he’s ready or not, here he comes!!
Their journey is full of laughter, banter, push and pull power game and it was a delight to read this beautifully crafted story.
5 stars for Little Bit Of Freckles
Awww man…I can’t believe I waited so long to read this book!!!
Talk about a very ANGSTY HAWT want to throw that kindle across the room kind of read..lol.
Loved everything about it..Thank you Jamie G for telling me to read ASAP!! xoxxo
And thank you Devney Perry at your bad ass words that you share with us…LOVE LOVE!! Can’t wait to read the 2nd book in this series
I LOVED it! It was such a good story! Jess Cleary Alpha sheriff and totally grouchy lol. Gigi single mom & nurse moved to a new town. She’s such a loving person, I really connected with her. Honestly, I just loved it! Had just the right amount of drama and some fantastic secondary characters.
Everyone needs to read this!
I was contemplating reading this book for a while now but if I want to be honest mainly because of beautiful and amazing cover. However when I got in the mood for a single parent romance I decided that The coppersmith farmhouse is going to be the perfect candidate at this time.
Another thing that appealed to me in this was that a lot of reviews I read about it mentioned that the author has a similar style to KA and while it’s not exactly the same still generates a similar atmosphere so it’s safe to say that KA fans (MEE!) going to enjoy reading the story.
I liked the premise, for a small town romance it has a somewhat exciting storyline. However it also a bit slow and in some regards annoyingly predictable. I mean, for me the identity of the bad guy was so obvious from the very beginning that with all of the clues and hints everywhere in the story it was just unbelievable that the characters didn’t realize his identity earlier. It was a pretty glaring flaw in the plot in my opinion. But if I ignore my precipitance that comes from reading hundreds of similar stories then the book has a lot of potential and it’s well planned out with just enough mystery and drama in it.
I expected an alpha hero but the sheriff, while sexy and magnetic, took the whole authorative thing a bit too far for my taste. He has a quick temper and despite being a well liked part of the community the way he acts with Gigi is not okay. From the point he decides that he wants a relationship with her, he doesn’t let her make any kind of choices and he dictates every part of her life. He has good intentions but he is far to bossy.
I adored Gigi, when she finds her spine and stands up for herself; she is a great female character. Still I can’t say that there was anything outstandingly interesting about her. I liked her for the most part but she is nowhere near one of my fave heroines. The little girl thou was a great addition to the couple and she made things move more smoothly.
Looking back at my review, maybe it sounds like I’m overly negative about the book but I actually enjoyed it a lot. However I think it could have been better with a slightly faster pace and a bit more spark to it.
As for the rest of the series I’m not sure if I’m going continue because while I liked the men it’s going to feature and enjoyed the setting I personally hated Felicity character. I know that she probably going to be portrayed in a different light in her story but that’s another thing I don’t like in series. When in one book they create a picture about a character then in the next one they want to change my opinion about them with completely transforming them. For me it just doesn’t work.
Loved! Loved! Loved!
As much as it pains me to say, I am one of those people who chooses a book by its cover, especially with new authors. Generally, that is the catalyst that gets me to read the blurb and then buy a book. I bypassed this book for far too long! I kept hearing all these wonderful things, but kept on going. Until I decided to give it a shot. And I wish I had taken the leap sooner!!
I loved Gigi! She had been dealt such a difficult hand at life, but persevered, and really made a good life for her daughter. Jess, the town sheriff, came across as a jerk at first, but the chemistry between he and Gigi was off the charts! And the way he loved his “girls” made him so endearing!
After reading this, I was surprised to not find other books written by Denvey Perry- she has a great talent for writing! The characters were well-developed, the plot flowed smoothly, and, while I still had questions, the conclusion made it complete. This is the first book in a series of standalones. (Side note: the questions I still had look like they’ll be addressed in another book).
I learned a lesson to not judge a book by its cover. Otherwise, I may have missed this gem!
Gigi (Georgia) and her young daughter, Rowen, befriend an ailing man who leaves them a farmhouse upon his passing. Hoping for a fresh start, she bundles them up and heads to Montana and is pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the old house.
Jess has been caring for the old farmhouse for years to show his gratitude to the man who took him in, and loves the place. So it’s understandable he’d be a little p o’d to learn that a scheming woman took his friend for everything he had. Then he meets Gigi and realizes he was wrong about her.
Gigi meets the sheriff and falls into instant lust, even though he’s an autocratic jerk. There’s so much HEAT between these two it BURNS up the pages!
I wanted to like this story; it has all the elements of a great romance, the strong, protective hero, and the pretty, smart heroine and a touch of suspense. The problem was that Gigi thought more like a male, (with his little head) to me.
It made me want to scream!
She’d get justifiably angry at something Jess said or did, and then in the next minute be climbing all over him like a rutting goat. It was frankly a turnoff. I like to see more depth to my characters, especially since she’d been through the same kind of relationship in the past.
The writing was strong in this book, with several lines I really liked. Here’s a couple:
You could be seriously hot on the outside but if you were nasty on the inside, all the exterior goodness disappeared.

My heart rate was already well past the elevated range. At the sheriff’s harassment, it was now thundering. There was a good chance it would sprint back to the farmhouse without me.

If you like alpha heroes and swoony females, this might be the book for you 🙂
I give The Coppersmith Farmhouse 3 lovely kisses
This is an amazing debut novel! Perry writes alpha males with teddy bear tendencies, strong independent women, cute kids, and all around great stories!

REVIEW:
I waited a bit to dig into The Coppersmith Farmhouse, after reading some reviews from both those who loved it to those who went on a rant, which I love to read every point of view. But darn I wish I read this one sooner, I loved it, many compare this to Kristen Ashley who is my ultimate to go author and have an issue with OTT alpha males, the biggest difference with Perry’s alpha male is the he apologizes when he’s wrong, he knows he did something wrong and he owns up to it, where Ashley’s men more grunt and or beat around the bush when they know their wrong, which I love too. Anyways I love the cover design too, as a graphic designer I love when a fellow artist really brings in the “feels” and vibe from the hometown in this book sounds warm, peaceful and beautiful. Okay now onto the review…
The Coppersmith Farmhouse follows Gigi and her daughter Rowen who have left the city for Prescott, a small down where their friend and pretty much adoptive grandfather, Ben, left them a house to live in. Gigi is excited for the new life change and already starting to like her new job as a nurse in the local hospital, until she meets the Sheriff. Sheriff Jess Cleary aka The Brick, is not too happy about Gigi moving into his longtime friend’s house, a man whom he respected and took care of his farmhouse for years. He thinks Gigi may have befriended Ben to get something from him. But Gigi is not too keen on how Jess treats her and puts him in his place. When the towns bad boy and drug dealer starts to cause problems, and Jess and Gigi become targets of something big, the two of them start down an interesting path of love, trust and determination to keep each other safe.
Gigi is a sweetheart, I loved her spitfire attitude toward Jess, yah she caves a little too easy sometimes but he does apologize for his rude behavior on multiple accounts. But what I loved about her the most is her love and devotion towards her daughter Ro, they have a sweet and loving relationship and she is a mamma bear, no one hurts her daughter or puts her in danger.
Jess is the towns protector and his alpha demeanor and presence is a shock to poor Gigi who gets put on his list as someone to protect. He also has to deal with the drugs that are running around town with kids and some bad people who want to run the town, but he seems to always be one step behind. I felt for him, he was so close but just couldn’t put his finger on who was really in charge.
Overall, I loved this book, it had everything for me that I love in stories, romance, great characters, entertaining secondary characters, a town of hilarious and nosey people, and a mystery that had me guessing, well I didn’t figure out who it was before poor Jess. In the end, I highly recommend this series, I’ve already started the second and it’s just as good.
This story, the first in the Jamison Valley series, had me laughing out loud (Jess is really too much but not in a bad way), weeping (because yes there are several moments in the story that warrant tears-painful, fear filled moments), squee-ing (not a word I know) because there is just something about a little girl who can just steal a scene or two. Add some suspense because this IS Devney Perry, and you have a darned good, well rounded story that will have you wanting to read more and learn more about others in that world.
All the stars for Jess!! Seriously, is it just me or was he giving me serious OG KA Alpha male vibes?? The way he spoke and the things he was saying to Georgia just reminded me of the way Tate or Ty would be with their women. It was his way or no way and at first, I was like f*ck him but apparently, I have a type because it didn’t take long for me to completely fall for him and his alphahole ways.
Georgia was such a strong heroine that even on the times when she was being a bit too stubborn it was alright. I would have liked to get more of her story about her past and with the book being so long I was expecting more to come but never did. Same with Jess’s past and his family, it was touched on but enough to get a big enough back story on why these two characters were the way they were.
Rowan stole the story for me, that little girl was so freakin’ cute!! Plus, bravo to Devney Perry for making her seem like a four-year-old little girl. I’ve read too many books to count where the children in the book act like they are teenagers but then you get the whole “he/she is advanced for their age” just no. That is one of the joys of reading a book with a child is seeing all their little quirks.
From some of the reviews I was seeing on Amazon I didn’t expect to like this story as much as I did. You can tell that Devney Perry’s writing as improved so much over the years but since this was her first book, I did take that into consideration. Parts of the story were predictable, but I found that it didn’t bother me because everything about the story was so enjoyable. The Coppesmith Farmhouse was such an incredible start to the Jamison Valley Series that I am looking forward to seeing what book two is all about.
The Coppersmith Farmhouse (Jamison Valley #1) was a good read by Devney Perry. Gigi is starting a new life when unexpectedly gifted a farmhouse in Montana. Her and her daughter move there and the last thing she needs is attitude from the town’s sheriff. Jess believes Gigi is a schemer who stole his sanctuary, the farmhouse that should have been his. I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read more by the author.
A couple of years ago, Devney Perry shot to the near top of my automatic 1-click authors’ list with The Birthday List, then the first Tin Gypsy series book, Gypsy King. But there were a few of her backlist books I’d missed, so after devouring the rest of the published Tin Gypsy books and keeping up with each newly published book of both Devney and her pen name, Willa Nash, I’ve begun making my way through those books I’d missed. Then kicking myself for not finding her books sooner!
The Coppersmith Farmhouse is her debut book. (I’m pretty sure that’s correct, but someone correct me if I’m wrong!) If I had found this book first, she’d have immediately gone on my list of authors I enjoy reading sooner. It’s an enemies-to-lovers, small-town romance with all of the elements of a great book: wonderfully developed characters, an interesting and entertaining plot that keeps you turning the pages, and just the right combination of suspense and steam. Jess is a bit of a prick at first which had me wanting to give him a good, old-fashioned smack to the back of his head. But Gigi didn’t let him walk all over her, which had me giving her mental high fives for chapters. She’s a tough cookie (and a nurse, so there’s that), and he’s enough of a man to own up to his mistakes when he realizes he’s made them.
Even though I was able to figure out the twist in the suspense, I felt it was still well crafted, and that’s saying a lot. (I cut my literary teeth on Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, and Nora Roberts later on.) And for a debut romantic suspense, I thought it was fantastic!
NICUnurse’s Rating:
In the beginning, you will not like Jess. He thought he knew all about women and he had his mind made up about Gigi. It was so fun to read about him falling in love!!
5 “Sheriff” Stars
This past few weeks, I’ve been in such a mood for small town romances! I’ve read a few and now that I’m on vacation and have more free time in my hands, I felt it was time to finally binge read the Jamison Valley Series. I’ve been wanting to pop my Devney Perry cherry for a long while now and I can say The Coppersmith Farmhouse had me utterly mesmerized! Seriously, this novel was the perfect small town romance and stole my heart completely!
The banter between the sexy, protective and sometimes over the top Sheriff, Jess, and the new in town nurse with a high dose of sass, Georgia, was just everything. In every single one of their interactions, sparks were flying and they had me smiling and laughing a lot. Let’s just say that their first encounters are imprinted with antogonizing, but their relationship rapidly turns into attraction and caring! Needless to declare I absolutely adored this couple. Another aspect I particularly enjoyed about this book was Rowen. That little girl was too adorable! As any four year old, she spoke her mind which was truly sweet and funny. She also created such a beautiful bond with Jess, a great new male figure in her life. This trio had me swooning so hard over their little family in the making.
While I got really into the feels with these characters, there was also an interesting intrigue to keep me hooked. The whole cast was lovely and I’m now sure interested in their own love stories. I’m confident, I’ll have as much fun reading the next novels in the Jamison Valley Series. I now understand all the raving about Devney Perry’s books. This one was well-balanced and captivated me by its overall beauty and romantic vibe!
