Her father is the King of England. She is the Controversial Princess. Regarded as down to earth by the press and rebellious by the King, Princess Adeline refuses to bow to the royal expectations her title carries. She knows better than anyone that the united front of the Royal Family is nothing but smoke and mirrors – lies and secrets masked by power and privilege. She wants no part of it, and … part of it, and she will never surrender to the King’s demand to marry a man she does not love. But despite Adeline’s determination to retain her free will, she remains deeply unfulfilled, feeling caged and suffocated.
That is until she meets Josh Jameson. Drawn in by his confidence, Adeline is soon captivated by the scandalously sexy American actor. His ability to penetrate her defences overwhelms her – his touch is pure fire, and his allure overpowering. Nothing has ever made her feel so alive in a world where she’s otherwise slowly drowning. However, while Josh may be Hollywood royalty, he’s not actual royalty, and Adeline knows the King and his advisors will do everything in their power to keep them apart.
But Josh Jameson becomes the princess’s ultimate vice.
And although she bows to no one, she bows to him.

When I picked up my first Jodi Ellen Malpas book way back in June of 2013, I devoured the book. Now here we are 5 years later and I just finished reading The Controversial Princess. This book was written perfectly, flowed at a perfect pace and kept me engrossed from the first page until the last. You can see the maturity and growth that this author has gained in her writing talent with this book. I can not recommend this author’s books highly enough!!
Celebrating her 30th birthday, Princess Adeline is the royal family controversial child. Just wanting to be free and to do things she wants to do, live a life full of love instead of fake love. Trapped is what she feels like. Unable to get out from under the Kings demands, she finds herself in compromising situations. She has plenty of people under her to clear the Royal name when she is caught. Always getting caught though… One day though, she dreams of living life to the fullest with no threats of being punished for her behavior.
Josh Jameson is the Hollywood star. Currently in London with his father. The King and Josh’s father served in the military and have remained friends. Since in London, they were invited to come celebrate Princess Adeline’s birthday.
From that day in the maze, the Princess Adeline and Josh have been inseparable, living life to the fullest. At least the fullest possible when one is royalty. But when together, Adeline feels the way she has longed to feel. At Peace. In Love.
Your Highness, do you feel like you’ve met your match?
Indeed, she does. Josh gets Adeline. Knows what she needs. Gives her what she desires. But when you are Royalty you are told who to date. Who to marry. You need permission for everything.
When the love advances and the world around these two collapses, will it be possible for the Princess to keep her American Man? Or will the two-different set of rules, for who a person loves, keep them apart?
OMG!!! What an ENDING… Need book 2 NOW…

For me, this is the first time I’ve read a royal story where it is the female that is the royal member out sowing their wild oats instead of a male. It’s a nice change to the norm.
Josh was still portrayed as a womanizer. At first, I didn’t like his approach with Adeline. He didn’t seem smitten. He came off more as just wanting bragging rights but I also think that was the authors intention. Gladly, that did change and very quickly.
I liked Adeline. I wasn’t sure if I would like that she partied so much, especially with her being 30 but she still came off as a very likable person. She wasn’t spoiled or snobby. The author did a good job of showing how suppressed her life was and that she rebelled to just have some control in her life.
When Adeline meets Josh and once you get past the initial meeting, you start to see how drawn together they are and how hopeless their situation is. It seemed so hopeless that I wasn’t sure how this was going to work. After that ending, I really can’t wait to find out.
I wasn’t expecting that ending and it seems these two really don’t have a chance. There are quite a few unlikeable side characters in this and I was happy to see how this ending effected a few of them but then it did make things worse for Adeline. I really want to know what happens next. Onto book 2.
Once again Jodi Ellen Malpas gives us another hot man to fall in love with this time he is an American named Josh and he is everything you would expect from this authors hero’s he is a hot, dirty mouthed Hollywood movie star who is also just a little bit kinky. The heroine in this love story is Princess Adeline Lockhart the royal who lives by her own set of rules because after all she is a Princess and she has brothers who are in line for the throne and they need to abide by the rules.
Adeline and Josh meet at her 30th birthday party and both decide a bit of fun never hurt anyone well that was before feelings got in the way and they both feel hopelessly in love with each other but Josh is not a royal so how will this love story pan out you will need to read the book to find that out.
I loved all of the characters in this book, I loved how much depth and strength they all have and for me this says it all. “ Every girl needs something bad for them now and then, your Highness “
The Controversial Princess is a love story that’s full of passion, love, romance and some intrigue and once again this author has shown us how diverse and talented she is. Bring on book 2
I just love this author this was an excellent book
Holy scandal, Batman! All this Royal drama got me bugging out! I can’t stop reading. I’m like tell me more! I feel bad for Adeline. I couldn’t imagine not having the freedom to choose my own happiness. Freedom to choose what to do with my everyday life or freedom to love whoever I wanted. Royalty seems like a grand idea, but it really sucks balls. Sucks it hard. I polite pass on being a Princess. Now onto Josh. Josh is hot and amazing. I really, really, really like that man. *wiggles eyebrows * He saw Adeline beyond the crown and just wants to love her. I’m down with that. They’re smokin’ hot together. So needless to say, I’m hooked on this drama and can’t wait to see where the heck it goes.
Oh, Wow! While I’ll admit that the story progresses slower than I’m used to…by the end, I feel it was all worth it.
The slow build of the growing relationship between Adeline and Josh as well as the in depth glimpse into Adeline’s life as a royal was perfect in detailing how much of her life is dictated by her title and mandatory obligations. How she wishes daily to be free to life and enjoy all the things a normal person gets to enjoy. The freedom to come and go, love and date who she chooses. It was all so frustrating for her.
Peeking into the lives of her family was like watching an episode of one of my favorite TV shows, The Royals. The betrayals, and secrets and manipulations were so similar, juicy and down right scandalously scrumptious.
Josh Jameson put the word SEX in sexy. That man even gave me tingles with his sexual domination and spankings and made my heart flutter with how gentle and caring and protective he could be. He was absolutely divine.
Once I reached the end, I will say I was SHOCKED by the cliffhanger. It wasn’t what I was expecting and definitely left me eager to rush for the conclusion to this story.
What a fabulous read!!
I would also like to add that I listened to this via Audible and the narrator was SUPERB. She really acted out some of the scenes and manages to do so many voices with true distinction- it was like there were other narrators with her. She did an outstanding job.
Nothing, nothing prepared me for that!
I thought I was reading a spoiled little princess trying to entertain herself. I thought it was going to be a bit of fun. What I got was a heartbreaking Romeo and Juliet like tragedy on a Brit could write.
The Controversial Princess is a rebellious woman wishing for one thing. Just one…Freedom. Her gilded cage has been suffocating her for years. And one fateful night, her birthday no less, she meets a man. The man.
But this princess is short on fairies for her tale, everything is not as it seems. The more freedom she desires the more claustrophobic her cage.
Except with him…
But as all stories seem to do, this one has a drastic and terrible dilemma. I’m both devastated and distraught by the ending. Fortunately, my despair won’t last long because I’m downloading book two as I type this!!!!!
What a roller coaster ride! The twist and turns, the secrets, and scorching hot chemistry grabs you and doesn’t let go until the end. The end definitely leaves you begging for more!
OMG! The Controversial Princess is like walking in on something inappropriate and tragic and being incapable of turning away. Your feet are floored to the ground in anticipation of what will happen next. Its shameful, but wildly arousing. That is how it felt reading this book.
This author has a way of getting under your skin and stretching your comfort. I was hooked to this book right away. Its impossible not to. I have not been a big fan of books set around royalty, but holy hell I was very addicted to this book. Adeline and Josh were so entertaining.
Adeline is the third born to the King of England. She is wild and is always in the tabloids and berated for her actions that are unbecoming of a Princess. But when she meets hot movie star Josh at her birthday party, she is confused by how quickly she bowed down to him. Quite literally. I loved seeing Adeline give up her control to him so willingly it shocked her. She loved the way he commander her body. He was so amazing towards Adeline and treated her like the Princess that she is. When she gets out of line, he serves her the most kinky spankings a woman could ever want.
I loved all their secret rendezvous. The sex in places that could get them caught. The fact that if Adeline’s family found about her relationship with Josh, they would destroy him, and she’d lose him forever. Because for the first time in Adeline’s life she finds herself not only caring for Josh, but falling in love with him. She doesn’t want a fake, loveless marriage like all the people in her family. She has no desire for the crown, but her life is not her own. She knows they will never allow her to have Josh. Josh was so amazing and so American. His reactions to certain phrases and words used in England. He was always so great for Adeline. He cared a lot about her, protected her, and was always there when she needed him. For the life that Adeline lives, as a woman with no power and only purpose is to marry and bare children, Josh was exactly what she needed.
The Controversial Princess was hot and kinky as hell. It was so addicted to the story and had to take breaks because my heart couldn’t take the intensity of this book. But it is so damn good. That ending was beyond shocking and let me dying for more. I can’t wait to read the conclusion of Adeline and Josh’s story.
That’s right, The Controversial Princess gets the 10 crown rating.
That being said….this was my first book by Ms. Malpas and what a first one to start with!!! Right out of the gate, the intensity and attraction between Adeline and Josh was hot!!!!
The Hotness did not stop through the entire book…..I mean, the entire book!!!! Josh’s “control” and “dominance” was, well, pretty HOT in itself and a major turn on.
Adeline’s presence and self “knowledge” was a breath of fresh air!!! I loved how she knew what she wanted and she was going to get it, no matter what!!
Now, the cliffy…..can I just say HOLY H*LL!!!! How am I going to wait for the release of His True Queen????
Ms. Malpas has a new and loyal fan right here!

This book is EVERYTHING – including a heart attack because it ends in a cliffy because it is part of a duet which I did not know when I started and I need part two NOW!!!!! Adeline and Josh are EVERYTHING and it so hard to expound on the ways I love this book without spoiling any of it, so there’s that. But – if you’re in to dominant alpha males, feisty woman, royals, ANGST, and a sort of Prince Harry/Meghan Markle gender reversal situation (you know, because in the book she’s a royal and he’s an actor) then grab this asap. Devour it (as I did) and wait with baited breath (and very little patience) for book 2. For real, I need some sisterhood and solidarity while I exist in this limbo… Join me! 5 out of 5 wine glasses.
JEM Strikes again!
Here it is, in the shadow of the royal wedding of Prince Harry of England to American actress Megan Markle that we have the dawning of Jodi Ellen Malpas’ newest release, staring none other than English royalty.
Her Royal Highness Princess Adeline of England is third in line to the throne. However, the only thoughts that she has revolve around none other than American Hollywood heart-throb and sex symbol Josh Jameson. Josh Jameson makes Princess Adeline long for things she didn’t know that she longed for, and feel like she never has before.
JEM once again brings a witty and sensual storyline that keeps readers wanting the next installment to see the epic conclusion for Her Royal Highness and America’s Most Beautiful.
I have read every book Jodi has written & in my opinion this is spectacular! I couldn’t be more blown away! 5 Stats ar mot enough!! I read it & decided to re-read it! It was that good! This story grabs you & immediately takes you on a magic carpet rise! Each of Jodi’s characters are unique & this book is no exception! Fighting for their unconventional relationship, they work to try to hold onto their ever deepening relationships…until fate threatens to intervene! The ending of this first offering of the duology left me breathless!!!
Blown. Away. This book took me on a foray into the royal family. The conforming older brother, the fun middle brother who is a military man, and the seemingly spoiled princess.
We don’t see much of John but he’s the heir and does all the right things.
Eddie is fun and spirited but aware of his responsibility as the “spare” to the throne.
Adeline is the youngest and “spare to the spare”. She’s resentful of being a royal. She’s lost herself in the expectations of her birthright. She’s a princess first and a woman second. She’s suffocating and rebelling.
And then she meets him. He both thrills and excites her. He’s forbidden (on many levels!!). But he sees her and she can be herself with him, something she’s not sure she’s ever been. Secrecy and excitement. At the same time fear of discovery. And the ever present weight of expectations are enough to crush them.
The story builds and becomes more intense. It comes to a crescendo and then everything you thought you knew (or surmised) is blown to bits. Trying to make sense of it does no good. Read it again. Let it settle. Then count the days until August 7th, because there’s more! More smoke and mirrors.
Blown. Away. Masterpiece!
When your Princess Adeline of England, third in line to the throne, all that’s expected of you is that you marry and produce babies to further the royal blood line and the monarchy. Adeline is doing her level best to avoid that, at all costs. Enter Josh Jameson, Oscar winning actor and considered American royalty, who dares to challenge Adeline ans make her want what the Crown will never let her have. Josh is bold, brash, disrespectful and he wants Adeline. He knows what she needs even if she doesn’t. He manages to keep appearing in Adeline’s carefully choreographed life, slowly breaking down her resolve to not get involved. Secret assignations lead to close calls of discovery of the pair. They fall in love and both go all in. Unfortunately there is palace intrigue afoot and outside forces are pushing Adeline towards an arranged marriage no matter how hard she resists. Just when she thinks she’s going to escape her father’s mandate, the unthinkable happens and Adeline as well as Josh will never be the same again.
The Controversial Princess was captivating and beautifully written.
We meet the fictional British monarchy at the 30th birthday party of Princess Adeline of England.
Adeline is not your traditional princess- she is the rebel and non-conformist of the family. Her father the King has always eyes on her to make sure that she behaves appropriately and respects the protocol. He has even picked her future husband for her Haydon Sampson. But Adeline does not want a loveless marriage, she wants the sparks and the passion.
She meets Josh Jameson at her birthday party and she knows as soon as she sees him that he is trouble. He is the embodiment of the forbidden fruit.
“Josh Jameson. I sigh, smiling to myself, enjoying my new delightful view. He was recently voted the World’s Sexiest Man Alive and has an Oscar under his belt to boot. “
As soon as they start speaking to each other, you can feel the attraction and know that it is going to be nearly impossible for them to not yield to temptation. Their passionate love affair is taboo and forbidden but how long will they be able to keep it secret? What will the king do if he finds out?
“Josh Jameson is not a suitable man for me to date, to see, to screw, to even kiss. Which makes me want to do all those things all the more.”
Be prepared for the BIG CLIFFY!!!! I cannot wait to read book 2!
JEM did it again! Great summer read, can’t wait for August for the conclusion!
If I had a daughter, I know exactly which make-believe princess that I’d want her to aspire to be — Princess Adeline in The Controversial Princess. She’s confident, unapologetically strong-willed and quietly powerful, and her defiance against outdated royal expectations is emboldening. She’s a force to be reckoned with, and she finds her equal with Josh Jameson, a famous American actor. He matches her in intelligence and determination and isn’t intimidated by her title or family, and they are downright mesmerizing from the moment they meet and begin trading sharp, fiery barbs and wrestling for control, while their explosive chemistry and unrestrained passion consumes them. They are sexy in the bedroom and out, and even the British monarchy cannot threaten their larger-than-life romance. Or can it? The Controversial Princess is an all-consuming, scorching-hot, modern royal romance with twists, turns and a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that will leave you begging for more. The next book, His True Queen, releases Aug. 7.

ARC provided, but this review was voluntarily and honestly written.
I thought this story was intense, beautiful and passionate. I loved the characters. I loved the forbidden aspect. The storyline had me completely addicted and I fell in love with the characters and the world created by Jodi.
Royals seem to be my favorite addiction at the moment and this will definitely be one of my favorites of the year. I could not put this book down. As much as I love Jesse and the This Man series, I think I may have just fallen in love with a new series from Jodi Ellen Malpas. I absolutely cannot wait to read more!
Controversial is definitely an appropriate title for this Princess. She is very beautiful, witty, smart, sassy, sounds like me no wonder I loved her, (inserted wink here). Adeline, sorry, Princess Adeline is as far from royalty etiquette as you can get. If there is something you shouldn’t do then she most definitely does it.
Just because a person, okay royalty has money, power, and pretty much everything, he or she desires, it doesn’t always equate to that. You can still have all those things and more, but loneliness can be crippling. The need to have a love that excites you, that one person that knows you is quite different than living the life Princess Adeline has lend so far.
Joandisalovebooks heartthrob, Josh Jameson is enough excitement for any Royal Heir to cope with, yes cope and not contend. He’s a force to be reckoned with, but oh! The orgasms, that’s what’s counts, right? How can any woman refuse a man that has magical powers that sends us up in space? Never been there myself, but hey I’m not dead yet. (good job my husband doesn’t read my reviews, I’d be divorced in a week)
Most romance books that have a happily ever after are predictable in the sense we know no matter what happens we are going to love the ending. What’s different about this romance? It’s a new and fresh plot, for me anyways. I love reading storylines that are so far from anything I have read. This Author AKA known as JEM to her fans, has talent for bringing her stories to life. You may not like everything she has ever written, but you can’t ever say she isn’t a writer worthy of some pretty awesome acknowledgements.
I know I am like hundreds probably thousands of women out there that just can’t wait for the next book. Thank you for another great adventure, Jodi.
