Her father is the King of England. She is the Controversial Princess. Regarded as down to earth by the press and rebellious by the King, Princess Adeline refuses to bow to the royal expectations her title carries. She knows better than anyone that the united front of the Royal Family is nothing but smoke and mirrors – lies and secrets masked by power and privilege. She wants no part of it, and … part of it, and she will never surrender to the King’s demand to marry a man she does not love. But despite Adeline’s determination to retain her free will, she remains deeply unfulfilled, feeling caged and suffocated.
That is until she meets Josh Jameson. Drawn in by his confidence, Adeline is soon captivated by the scandalously sexy American actor. His ability to penetrate her defences overwhelms her – his touch is pure fire, and his allure overpowering. Nothing has ever made her feel so alive in a world where she’s otherwise slowly drowning. However, while Josh may be Hollywood royalty, he’s not actual royalty, and Adeline knows the King and his advisors will do everything in their power to keep them apart.
But Josh Jameson becomes the princess’s ultimate vice.
And although she bows to no one, she bows to him.

4.5 STARS!
I absolutely loved this book. I listened to it on audible and hung on every word. Adeline is a feisty reluctant princess who wants to find true love and her own path as opposed to the life the monarchy chooses for her. The very last man on earth her father the King of England would pick for her would be the American Actor Josh Jameson. For reasons unknown to the princess, she craves the very dominance he wishes to provide while she rebels against the control others wish to have on her. As the youngest child and only female of the King, she is thrilled to not even be the “spare heir”. She finds comfort in knowing she will never have to rule and therefor perhaps not be bound to the strict life that duty entails. Those around her, however, wish for her to be the proper Princess she is expected to be. I love that the angst in this book does not necessarily stem between the relationship between the Hero and Heroine. I adore the relationship between the Princess and her Brother Prince Edward and I want to strangle her brother Prince John, The Heir Apparent, and his bitchy wife Helen. I also was the youngest with 2 older brothers who were wildly successful so I relate to Adeline and how she views her place in her family unit. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
After reading the This Man trilogy by Jodi Ellen Malpas I was looking at the other books of her, when I saw this title I was very intrigued by it. It took me a little while to get to it. But thank god it didn’t disappoint, I loved it.
We follow as the title says a controversial princess of England: Adeline and an Hollywood actor Josh.
Adeline knows that her father the king and his advisors will not approve of them being together and will do whatever they can to keep them apart from one another.
Josh figures out Adeline pretty quick he knows she craves to let go, good thing that Josh thrives on control. But of course as any forbidden romances they have a lot to conquer
I always love a good forbidden romance book. The way that Josh was determined to see Adeline was just so soft. Even though the sexual part of their relationship plays a Imported part it doesn’t overtake the story in an annoying way were is feels like the characters are only together for the sex. These two understand each other more then anybody else ever did. They connect on a deeper level. They don’t always need words to know how to other feels. Right after I finish this book I needed to read part 2 of this duet.
Princess Adeline is celebrating her 30th birthday, the celebration, a garden party at the palace is nothing more than a chore for her. Spending time with her cousin Matilda, the Duchess of York is the only thing relieving the tedium. That is until she spots Josh Jameson, American Actor and Sex Symbol heading their way.
Much happens at this garden party as Adeline sneaks off to a maze on the property to meet with Josh. Also the announcement of her brother John, the Heir Apparent, wife’s pregnancy, takes the shine off her party.
Plenty of subterfuge as the princess and the actor have several secret rendezvous. It’s also the nature of these encounters I have a bit of a problem with. I’m no stranger to kinks in a book, but there were elements here I felt should have had more of an explicit consent rather than an implied one.
This book was supposedly set in today’s world and that also made it a bit difficult for me. The English Monarchy and Aristocracy is well known and even with the landmark name changes and a totally different Monarchy I kept looking for the familiar.
I love the characters especially Damon and Bates, Adeline and Josh’s bodyguards respectively. What their charges put them through really is above and beyond.
Adeline is indeed strong and determined only to marry for love, and Josh is determined to be the winner in this battle of love v. tradition. The twists and turns in this book particularly at the end had me buying the second book in this duology.
Almost every little girl dreamed in her childhood to be a princess living in the palace with prince on a white horse that saves her from the golden tower.
Over time that dream disappears, but somewhere in the depths of her heart, remains little piece of this dream, about the prince. But does every fairytale have lived happy ever after?
Jodi Ellen Malpas brings us into the world of monarchy and their lives in Smoke & Mirrors duet. Controversial Princess takes place in the present times and tells the story of the Lockhart Monarchy. Princess Adeline, King of England youngest child is third in the line to take the throne. Being a member of the royal family is not only a life in luxury, lavish parties, beautiful outfits and everything what you could dream about. It’s all about following strict rules, obligations toward the nation and family, and all the King’s orders.
For Adeline, this world is nothing other than an unemotional prison. Although she doesn’t know different life and her whole future is planned and arranged, Adeline struggling to accept her fate. She is nothing than ordinary princess. She is feisty girl with defiant attitude who won’t bow to anyone. Always does what she wants and says what she thinks and don’t give a damn about consequences.
On her thirty birthday party, she’s met the infamous and incredibly handsome american actor Josh James, women’s heart-breaker. Captivated by his charm, she wants to touch this forbidden fruit although she knows he’s out of her reach. Does anyone will be able to stop controversial princess from this temptation?
Here the story of a forbidden love begins. Get ready for a compelling read about destiny and fight for their own place in this complicated monarchy world.
This book was extraordinary, the whole plot is brilliantly thought-out and surprising from chapter to chapter. Desire and chemistry between main heroes was out of the charts and dragged them to each other like a magnet.
Even for a moment I wasn’t bored with this book, addicted and hooked with new conspiracy theorist and all the twists and turns in the story.
While forbidden love always tastes the best and tempts the most, especially for someone who has never indicated it in life, it can cost the highest prize.
Josh Jameson may have stolen my heart away from Jesse. This is one of my favorite books from Jodi. It left me heart racing, I couldn’t put down the book.
I have been a HUGE fan of this author ever since she wrote the ‘This Man’ trilogy and once again she has out done herself with this book. I loved everything about it – The characters, the storyline, the twists & turns…sigh. I can’t wait to read the second half of this duet to see what happens to Josh & Adeline. This book is a MUST READ!
Cute story
I seldom give a cliffhanger book 5 stars, but JEM has spun her magic and has me so entranced by Princess Adeline Lockhart and Josh Jameson’s story.
Princess Adeline is not your typical princess. On the outside, she is prim and proper and has been told what to do her entire life. On the inside, she is a rambunctious, strong-willed, bird in a golden cage. When she meets Josh Jameson, a famous Hollywood actor, the urge to be free and her true self becomes stronger. After they have a one-night stand, their attraction for one another is undeniable and under Josh’s dominant control Adeline starts to find herself. Their affair defies the English monarchy upbringing that Adeline has had to endure her entire life. Unfortunately, Adeline will be placed in another predicament by the king: forced to marry a man chosen for her instead of the man she is falling for.
This unconventional romance gave me all the feels and was entertaining from start to cliffhanger. I cannot wait to get my grubby little hands on the continuation, His True Queen, and find out what happens to these dynamic characters.
** I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
boring
Makes you have to read the next book.
2018 published, contemporary, do not finish, erotic, her POV, London, M/F romance, plot, read, romance, sex, steamy, unforgetabble.
This is the first time I read a fictional story about royals and I loved it. Jodi always opens this world for us readers and give us head strong heroines and alpha males. Specially this one Adeline was so headstrong and took no crap! What I love with Adeline she wasn’t stuck up she was for the people and she made me feel she was like our Princess Diana. She knew what she wanted and she worked her butt off for women.
She done it again she as grabbed me into a hot and steamy world. I love the twist and turns in this story. You always questioning who is jeopardising Adeline and Josh relationship. I love that she brought two different people together as you notice they start to change in a good way they don’t care about Adeline’s title she is born to do. I love how Josh would do anything for Adeline. I love all Jodi’s alpha males I couldn’t position them as I love them equally.
I didn’t want this book to end really. I would love more but that’s what you always get from Jodi a world where you want to read on and on. If you new to Jodi’s books make sure to start with One Night 3 book series as you won’t be able to put it down and you will want to buy all of them.
Now I have her new book Gentleman Sinner on my To Be Read pile. I can’t wait to open it up and get consumed of love, darkness and smolding scenes with the alpha male Theo Kane. The Controversial Princess Jodi Ellen Malpas
Sometimes you pick up a book and are instantly engrossed in the world the author has created. That is exactly what happened when I picked up TCP. It was one of those books you take your time with because you don’t want it to end. Ms. Malpas drew me into the world of the British monarchy and I want more! With the title of book two revealed, I knew something big had to happen…and boy did it. I cannot wait to devour His True Queen and see if Adeline will pick her country or Josh.
This is my first book from Jodi Ellen Malpas and I loved it! The story of a rebellious princess and a sexy, hunk of an actor will truly get you hooked with the story. The plot may look simple but it’s not. It’s full of intrigue, secrets, passion and dangerous liaisons. With that ending, you’ll be craving for more of Josh and Adeline. What will happen now that the monarchy is bound for some major changes? Will the people accept it graciously or not? I cannot wait to find what will happen next in His True Queen. I definitely enjoyed this book and highly recommend it!
HOLY HeCK #JEM.
OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD!
STUNNED SPEECHLESS!
There is really not much more I can possibly say, other than,
Jodi Ellen Malpas is single-handedly one of the most gifted and talented writers I’ve had the privilege to read.
Her latest novel The Controversial Princess rocked me to the core, with her rendition of a Royal love story, which instantly had me on high alert!
Sending my heart on a FRICKEN contradiction of emotional barricades, illusions of sorts and a cosmic inferno of dubious desires igniting my inner litany of need.
Then seamlessly catapulting me into a brilliant kaleidoscope of WTFNESS!!!!
OMFG!!!!! REALLY!!!
NOW, WHO CAN I PAY TO GET ME THE NEXT BOOK?
Superb! First let me just say that our beloved Jodi can write ‘posh’ extremely well. Witnessing my very own ‘jolly hockey stick’ friends, quite frankly I thought I was sat in the room with them at times. Tally-ho, you scoundrel, righto, yar, yar, in a jiffy, old chap, pompous windbag, good-oh, must dash, the dirty rat, and my favourite, bugger it!
The frustrated, feisty, unhappy, cigarette smoking, champer swigging, oppressed, elegant Spanish beauty that is Princess Adeline, is helpless to all that is Josh Jameson American actor, dominant, tall, dark, buff with and I quote ‘a smile that can blow your knickers off’, are the perfect fit in all ways. Steamy, sexual, playful and coupling made of dreams.
Prisons can come in different forms. Adeline’s prison manifested in both her suffocating title and intimidating palace walls, clearly unapparent to the general populous. Every aspect of her life detailed, managed, criticised, groomed. I felt a ‘go-girl’ moment when it became clear that conforming wasn’t an option… ever! And Josh the cowboy come actor, adored world-wide held in his own prison of fame.
Marvellous supporting characters, there are plenty, and all could have their own stories. I’m sure many would love to sing Take That with Damon, security officer, ex MI6 and buff, in a car pool. And drink champers and get squiffy with Matilda. Matilda and the Argentine polo whizz… hmmm! Now there’s a tale to be told.
With impeccable visualization, it’s a story of Princess Adeline’s subjugation under the rule of an outdated monarcy, extremely well told, highly entertaining, page-turner, with a top-notch cliffy. Bring on book 2 in this gripping duology.
Being part of a royal family is a guarantee of comfort, luxury and status. But the price charged is very high. Adeline knows this very well. Princess of England, third in succession, in the eyes of the public she lives a perfect life of fairy tales, but the reality could not be more different. Adeline longs for freedom, something so simple, but that it is denied. Her life does not belong to herself, her actions are all executed through a programmed agenda, her choices non-existent and her free will buried by the demands of the King and the good of the monarchy. Her perfect life is a farce, just like her family.
Everything is a great smokescreen. The family portrayed in the media only exists on paper. His father, the King, cares only about himself and his title, treating everyone as mere objects, which he moves at his will. Her mother, the queen, is a mere decorative figure, with no voice and no choice. The older brother, only thinks of the throne seeing all as an opponent. The only normal relationship she has, is with her middle brother, this one understands her, because he also feels suffocated. The rest of the family also follow the same pattern. All in failed marriages, without love, where the appearance is more important. And all moving according to the King’s orders.
Adeline does not accept her fate, and therefore is considered the black sheep of the family. She lives at war with her father, not submitting to his desire that she marry whom he has chosen and produces heirs. The suitor in question is an expressionless figure, who looks more like a puppet. On her thirtieth birthday, the Princess who does not take orders and does not bow to anyone will meet someone who will make her rethink how much she knows herself.
Josh Jameson is a famous actor, a celebrity in Hollywood. As he accompanies his father, an American senator, to an event of English royalty, he meets Adeline, and with an immediate attraction between them, these two will enter a dangerous game, where the happy ending is impossible, the journey will be explosive and hot and the consequences brutal.
What begins as a simple desire, ends up becoming something much greater, and the Princess so thirsty for control, will find comfort in the arms of an unconventional lover, Dominant in the extreme, who will make her submit and show her feelings and love are real things, that there is no problem in giving up control to another person as long as there is trust.
Several secrets are part of the narrative, some revealed, some not. A villain begins to form, and I think he may have been involved in a crucial fact of the book. The ending is shocking, full of twists, leaving the reader eager for continuation. Impossible not to pity Adeline and not cheer for the couple.
I gobbled this book down faster than a melting triple chocolate hot fudge sundae. It was everything you want from a royal romance, and a bunch of unexpected hotness. Soooo good!
I purchased The Controversial Princess due to all the freaking hype surrounding around it….plus I requested His True Queen on netgalley without realizing it was the second part to this duet.
Being honest, I didn’t know what to think at first. I usually don’t find myself reaching for novels that have to do with the monarchy and royalty, I find them to be false and eye rolling. However, I was blown away by The Controversial Princess.
Stubborn Princess meets Hollywood Actor.
Add in some insanely kinky sexy time moments..
what’s not to love!
When I started this novel, I realized quickly how addicting Jodi Ellen Malpas’s writing can be. I was swept away from the first chapter. Jodi Ellen Malpas is a new to me author, don’t ask me why I haven’t read her work before now…. I haven’t’ the slightest clue. All I know is this author is amazing at writing gripping scenes and heart wrenching moments. Let’s not forget about all the insanely sexy moments that go on between Adeline and Josh. Holy hell… were there some crazy hot moments.
I cannot wait to start His True Queen tonight, especially after that mind blowing cliff hanger. To be honest, I dropped a star because I felt like I knew where the novel was heading but holy shit, I didn’t realize how dramatic it would be….CRAZY!
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. I loved the characters and the forbidden vibe that came with the relationship. I loved the connection between Adeline and Josh. Last but not least I loved how this novel pulled me in and captured my attention, especially given the fact that I don’t typically read novels revolving around the monarchy. I highly recommend to all that love novels revolving around this type of world! Now onto His True Queen!!!
Five stars for a start to an amazing duet. Adeline is definitely going on my favorite heroines list. She is strong willed, sassy as hell, and feisty to the core. I admired her character and loved seeing her in action. Strong heroines are must, but Adeline is that while also having those moments where she feels weak. Fantastic story and off the charts heat! Must read. – By Cat
