From the New York Times bestselling author of The Virgin’s Lover, this enthralling new novel answers one of history’s most intriguing questions: What lay behind Katherine of Aragon’s enormous, history-changing lie?
It’s been a few years since I read any of the books in the Plantagenet and Tudor series written by Philippa Gregory. In face, when I read the last one, I had to write the reviews of the previous books from memories because it had been over a decade. I missed my favorite historical family, so I checked up on the series recently. After realizing …

This is one of Philippa Gregory’s earliest novels, diving into Katherine of Aragon’s story as she prepares for her future as Queen of England under the close tutelage of her mother, Queen Isabella of Spain. We see the back door dealings and drama before Katherine arrives in England to marry young Arthur, and Gregory portrays a couple that …

It took me some time to get through this story….maybe because I knew how tragic Catherine of Aragon’s life would eventually be. Yet she did what she was brought up to do…to be a great wife, mother and queen no matter the obstacles. Love Phillipa’s interpretations of events and how they all tie together.

A wonderful book that shows Catherine of Argon when she is young. I loved seeing her as something more than Henry VIII’s first cast away wife. Beautifully written.

I’m reading/listening/re-reading these “in order”. Parts of this one are very familiar, like maybe I had read it a long time ago. But other parts not so much. If I read it in the past, it did not make much of an impression.
I enjoyed this until the end, where the author suddenly skips at least a year from the battle against the Scots to “The …

This author is a genuine historian and the scholarship is evident throughout. Easy to read and engaging. Informative about the historical characters, even though she has fictionalized the story lines. Even well-read folks can enjoy these books and learn about the past.

My favorite of Ms. Gregory’s
If you want to read about a young woman with unbelievable strength and resilience…than this is the book for you.
It’s my favorite of Phillipa Gregory’s just because Princess Catalina, daughter of Spain’s Ferdinand and Isabella and future Queen Katherine of England, is constantly the underdog. You have to admire …

I love all of Ms. Gregory’s books but this one was a little bit more intriguing for me. I realize this a book of fiction. I do believe the “bare bones” of it is based on historical truth. I knew absolutely nothing of Katherine of Aragon or her Spanish background. I found that type of info very interesting. And of course the love of the two Tudor …

Philippa Gregory’s historical novels are a great trip into the past, with lots of period detail and history, as well as insights into the mores, laws, ambitions, controversies, motivations, characters and personalities of these known names.
This study of Caterina of Aragon (Henry VIII’s first Queen, Katherine) fills in a lot of detail about her …
