Magic, forbidden love, and madness unravel in the third book in this lush fantasy series that New York Times bestselling author Susan Dennard called “perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas.”After the loss of a friend and a false imprisonment in an Eleysian dungeon, Cyrene has no interest in destiny. Her heart was shattered, friends scattered, and her home is nothing but a pretty illusion. Even her … illusion. Even her magic won’t cooperate.
Only desperation can turn her to the last person she should trust:
Prince Kael.
His darkness mirrors a growing force lurking within her. A struggle she never imagined threatens to consume her. And as friends and foes begin to show their true colors, she starts questioning whether anyone is who they seem.
Even herself.

Cyrene finds herself emprisioned and betrayed by the man she has fallen for. Her heart broken she feels aimless. When Kael comes to retrieve her she does the only thing she thinks she can and moves toward Kael’s pull. The closer she gets the more she realizes and sees where the dangers really lie. Her choices have so much weight now. Will she be able to make the choices that will propel her toward her destiny or will she doom everyone?
This was a terrific addition to this series. Carrying Cyrene’s story to the next level really adds so much more emotional depth to her character. Her pain, love, confusion and torment are all felt through the words of the phenomenal K.A Linde. The world that she has built with this story truly brings it to striking color. The emotion and choices all the characters must make really bring a air of realism to a completely fictional world. In this third installment, we get to see more of our favorite character, Avoca, Ahlvie, Dean, Orden, Vera and Matilde. This band really help to pave the way for how the story will go. Without them, this series wouldn’t be as dynamic as it already is. If you haven’t started this series yet, you need to start. This is NOT a standalone book. This is part of an ongoing series that I guarantee you will devour the moment you get your hands on them.
We are now into the third installment of the Ascension series. I have found that these characters have developed more and more with each installment. Hence, I continue to be “wowed” with K. A. Linde’s ability to create this magical world with intriguing characters in an equally engrossing story. Moreover, The Consort has taken a more darker undertones in this storytelling. What I also enjoyed is that with each book, the story starts off where it left off in the previous book.
After two books, I felt that questions were answered, but then, more questions were asked. As for the various story subplots/arcs in this magical world, the connections were made in which it enhanced the flow and added to the whole.
The Consort has definitely left me breathless and in shock from all the twists and turns that K.A. Linde created in this series! I think my “jaw dropped” every time I finished each book! However, what irks me a bit is that… There is A LOT going on which doesn’t bother me so much as long as the flow is cohesive and the connections come together clearly. But, yes, there is A LOT going on; however, do not let that deter you from reading this series. K.A. Linde’s Ascension series is a VERY involved reading in which readers can get lost in this world she created. So… All in all, I continue to be blown away with amount of intricate storytelling in this fantasy series.
Cyrene’s story just gets more and more complicated and I LOVE IT! I am always kept guessing all because of the brilliant Ms. Linde. Very glad to hear this series will now be 5 books. I cannot wait to see how her story will end.
The Consort is yet another great instalment in the Ascension Series.
As soon as I’ve finished reading the Bound, I had to get to know more! It was the worst cliffhanger ever. So reading about what happened next was hard. It was raw, emotional and frightening. The story KA Linde created within this world is just extraordinary. It’s more than I expected. The creatures and the magical elements in this book kept me going.
Reading the Affiliate and the Bound, I’ve already made my mind up about the characters and their place in Emporia, but in this book everything I thought I knew got turned upside down. Everything gets a new perspective: people, creatures, magic, friends, enemies – no one is save.
After getting to know more about the world and it’s characters and creatures in the first two books, it was really exciting getting deeper into the story, unveiling characters and just moving along from Cyrene’s past life. So much has happened in this book, yet there are still so many questions I need answered.
Reading the Consort felt different from the first two books. It has kind of a different dynamic to it and it went in a different direction than I was expecting. To say I was surprised by some of the things happening in this book is an understatement. I wasn’t expecting a lot that happened. It is just a great story and an even better series. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series and finally get some answers.
I finished this book over a week ago and have been struggling on how to review it during the book hangover I’ve had. There is no way to reveal the plot or any portion of it without spoiling the whole adventure. In true Linde fashion, Kyla has continued the adventure we have been on with Cyrene since The Affiliate.
Perhaps one of the most fun things about this series for me is in the re reads before the current release. Going back to our characters to refresh on what all transpired last has been fun with The Affiliate and The Bound has been such a whirlwind of magic, romance and most of all suspense.
In the latest book, The Consort, we pick right back up where we left off in The Bound. Cyrene is held prisoner for a crime she didn’t commit and feels her whole world shift as she goes from being on top of the world to being thrown into a dungeon.
While I can say nearly all the questions I’ve had lingering since the conclusion of The Bound were answered, there are so many twists and turns now that leave me with even more questions. This book is packed with the angst I always expect from a K.A. Linde book, but she has truly brought something else into this novel I don’t even know how to describe. Myself not being a fantasy reader, at all, I have found myself emersed in the entire Ascension series. Between the love interests that have unfolded through out these three books, to the unexpected suspense and mystery surrounding Cyrene and her magic, this book with put you through the ringer and throw you out on the other side with the most unexpected book hangovers of your life!
