The list of things I hate is short. Not even my soon-to-be ex-husband is on that list. Nope. I save only the worst of the worst, the crème de la crème, the absolute I cannot even for this list . . .1. Black coffee2. Rude people3. Nathaniel BradleyWhich is why when my father informs me that he’s making Nathaniel Bradley his new business partner, and in turn, my boss, I flip out. 1. He’s an … flip out.
1. He’s an annoying know-it-all.
2. He calls me a spoiled princess every chance he gets.
3. He disapproves of everything I do.
I go into this knowing I’ll hate every second in his presence. Except the longer he’s around, the more I find myself staring at his lips and remembering the one time they were on mine. I randomly find myself looking at his hands and wondering how they’d feel on my skin.
I try to snap out of it, but I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was. No matter how many times I remind myself of the times I’ve practically thrown myself at him and he’s pushed me away, I keep falling little by little.
I’d always heard that it was a bad idea to mix business with pleasure and if that’s the case, this thing with Nathaniel has demise written all over it.

This was an enjoyable and emotional read. I definitely recommend this book and this author.
Wow. Just wow. This book gave me all the feels. Sometimes you need a certain book to enter your life at a certain time to help you thru a situation. This was that book for me. It really hit home in some areas, and was exactly what I needed without knowing it.
This is a stand-alone book, so no need to worry about a cliffhanger. I did think it was a slightly heavy read, but after Claire breaks you she will put you back together. I’m not sure what else to say for fear of spoiling something. So I’ll leave it like this. I highly recommend this book. Do yourself a favor and set aside an afternoon, curl up with a blanket and a glass of wine, and get lost in the words.
I was waiting for this book for so long I can’t even remember.
God!!! Was it amazing!! It’d sadness, bickering, love. Everything I’ve hoped and more. Over years they see each other in different settings-in college, office.
Book had sadness which I can still feel but all the good still.
Now I want a Nathaniel too. He was the sweetest alpha male billionaire. The most hardworking person after Presley’s father.
If you love second chance romance definitely start this. I’m so thankful for arc!
Let me start with the incredible cover, it is so appealing I loved it!! Claire Contreras completely knock it outta the park with The Consequence of Falling and like always her writing was flawless.
This sexy enemies-to-lovers story staring Presley Rose, or better known as “princess” and Nathaniel Bradley. It was an emotional story but also was somewhat funny, that made me laugh out loud quite a few times.
I loved them together. I loved their banter and the sexual tension that was always there. Presley and Nathaniel meet when they were young. Presley’s father, Winston took Nathaniel under his wings at his company, he worked hard and because of that he eventually went from rags to riches. Presley didn’t have the same life hers was much easier. She had to pick herself up and start again after her very open and newsworthy marriage fails. She does this by going to work at her Father’s company which puts her right in Nathaniel path. She is surprised when eventually Nathaniel proves to be there for her.
If you love enemies-to-lovers stories and want to know how this story ends go pick this up now!!
This is an enemies to lover story.
The first time Presley and Nathaniel meet, the meeting doesn’t quite go expected.
They’re polar opposites. Presley is the rich socialite, while Nathaniel has worked hard to get where he is right now. They both have some very wrong preconceived notions about each other. The two of them meets a few times over the span of the next few years, and all the meetings are memorable to each of them. Although Presley is deeply attracted to Nathaniel and throws herself at him a couple of times, Nathaniel regards her as the spoiled princess, who’s looking for a way to pass her time with him. Everything seems to be said and done between the two when Presley marries someone else.
But life has a funny way of messing everything up. A couple of years down the line, Presley finds herself divorced and at the mercy of her father’s business partner, namely Nathaniel Bradley. She’s trying to turn over a new leaf, going to work for her father. That puts her in daily contact with Nathaniel, which causes old feelings to come back to the surface.
Although Presley has lead a sheltered life, that doesn’t mean she’s any pushover. When Nathaniel pulls she pushes right back, just as hard. She’s determined to change herself for the better. All her life she’s done largely what is expected of her, this time around she wants to do things her own way.
Nathaniel is challenged in his views of her. He is forced to confront the smart woman that Presley has become, and realize that he’d judged her too harshly. Presley comes to realize that Nathaniel may be smug and condescending at times, but at his core he is a good man.
I really enjoyed the novel, but what stood out to me was the sweet relationship between the main characters and Presley’s father. He was a guiding light for both of them, and some of their interactions really made me emotional.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read for me, mainly because I couldn’t put it down. The premise may be old, but Claire Contreras really brought her own spin to the story.
4.5 stars.
The Consequence of Falling by Clire Contreras is a full length, standalone romance novel. Books like this are the reason I read.
Meet Presley Rose. She’s a young woman who grew up sheltered, wealthy and a tad bratty, spoiled and egotistical.
And there’s Nathaniel Bradley, he was her father’s employee and now he’s a self-made businessman, a very successful businessman. He’s single minded and goal oriented, blunt. And has a love for her so deep it hurt to read about.
They haven’t much in common, but that’s about to change. And while this is under way, they fight like cats and dogs, they butt heads and ca´n’t deny they have chemistry like crazy.
The Consequence of Falling is a book that stays with you. It’s a story about love, letting go, loss, grief and much more. The story gutted me, it’s raw and gritty, a emotional, heartwrenching, beautiful read that gives you all the feels. I recommend the book and give 5 stars.
The Consequence Of Falling by Claire Contreras is an enemies to lovers romance. Nathaniel and Presley have always had a love, hate relationship. I loved how this book follows Nathaniel and Prealey through the years. It walks you through their victories and their mistakes. You get to see how these two characters grow and overcome their obstacles and make their way to each other. These characters have that special kind of chemistry that I have dreamed of finding. There is lots of angst and their banter will have you laughing out loud. Another amazing standalone by Claire Contreras.
The Consequence of Falling absolutely pulled at my heartstrings and I loved every emotion filled moment of it. I always enjoy stories with complex characters and the journey it takes to slowly reveal them as each layer is peeled back. Both Nathaniel and Presley were such relatable characters. They were human, flawed and each had their own struggles they hid from the world. Presley was such a spitfire and stronger than she realized. I loved watching her character grow even in the moments that wrenched my heart. The witty banter and the push and pull between Presley and Nathaniel kept me spellbound and I was so giddy as pieces slowly begin to fall in to place. This book was a beautifully emotional and swoonworthy read.
Claire Contreras had me crying my heart out a time or two with this book! Presley is a new favorite heroine on my 2019 list. She is easily misunderstood and a little misguided. What had me loving her was h!er spirit and strong will. I was surprised how at first she allowed her course be dictated of what was expected. Afterwards, she fought for herself. I especially loved the relationship she had with her father. It was special and so loving.
Now with Nathaniel, I was not sure if I loved the guy or just wanted to wring his neck! He definitely will push you to your limits. I loved the banter, the beer, and the love for baseball. I could not get enough of this story! This page turner will have your emotions turned inside out! I absolutely loved The Consequence of Falling!
I absolutely loved this book! If you are looking for a fast read that will pull at your heartstrings and evoke all kinds of emotions then this book is for you. It’s kind of an enemy to lovers romance that might even be a little forbidden in the beginning. You will find yourself rooting all the way for Nathaniel and Presley. They have an undeniable chemistry from the beginning to the end. I did not want their story to end!
This book had me from the beginning. I loved Nathaniel. Though I didn’t love Presley, I liked her, and she and Nathaniel had great chemistry. I loved the sexual tension between them. There were a few chapters from Nathaniel’s POV, which I loved. I would have loved more from his POV. I thought the story flowed well and the pace was good. Claire pulled at my heartstrings and broke my heart, but in the end she put it back together. This was an extremely satisfying read.
I love enemies to lovers romances, so this story was right up my alley…. and it did not disappoint.
Nate and Presley make such a beautiful couple. It’s good, it’s bad, and it’s ugly at times but it feels so real.
I laughed, I cried, and I was so happy for them…. This is definitely a five star read.
This book was everything, EVERYTHING !!!
Nathaniel and Presley’s story was different, Their lives took different paths and bumps along the road . There was a push and pull that kept me turning page after page will keep you captivated and wanting more and OMG its Sexy and HOT and damn I couldn’t decide if I wanted to smack or kiss Nathaniel good lord he made me swoon !!!
This is my favorite book to date from Claire .
I quite liked this story, it’s enemies to lovers which I really enjoy especially when they are so snarky which each other.
These two have a lot of snarky history although it did seem to me that if they both paid more attention to each other rather than jumping to conclusions they would of found each other a little sooner.
I liked the progression though the years in the first few chapters, it’s didn’t drag on which I liked as I hate it when books get too bogged down in the past. This had the perfect amount of backstory.
The characters had really sparky chemistry, you could feel the heat through the pages. I did think that Nathaniel was a little too sharp at times and Presley was quite reactive but I also though she explained it away to herself abit to easily for me.
Overall it’s a good story and made me realise I need to go back a read some of the other stories that were about the couples that are in this book as secondary character.
Claire has combined two of my favorite things: romance and beer. That’s combination has made this book one of my favorites of hers. I always love her books, she’s is my number one favorite author. This book was just a reminder of why.
There was so much emotion in this book. Not only emotions between the relationship with Presley and Nathaniel but between Presley and her parents. In particular her father. There was so much anger that was brewing there. We got to see the difficult road that lead them to the end. This book will make you feel so much! The scenes with Presley and her father were definitely some of my favorites and made me tear up at times.
Now, Presley and Nathaniel? Wow! They had off the charts chemistry. The sexual tension was there with them from the very beginning. Years of bickering and fighting were bound to lead to either them throwing things at each other or tearing each other’s clothes off.
I loved, loved this book! The cover is gorgeous. There writing is incredible as always. These characters were easy to love. Plus, we get scenes with my favorite lawyer! An absolutely 5 star must read!!
I love enemies to lovers and I really liked that this couple had a history. Presley’s dad was an amazing man and I enjoyed that aspect of the book. Nate was a character I fell in love with early on, even if he was brooding and a little sarcastic and said stupid things. Presley was out of her element a lot in the book, even if she wanted to appear that she wasn’t. Nate stepped in to help her always and I loved their dynamic. There was a part at the end that had some editing issues, but overall the book was a super cute romance.
4 – 4.5 stars
The cover of this is captivating and gorgeous. It definitely made me want to read this book. I’ve not read Claire Contreras in a while but I remember enjoying her books, sweet, charming sometimes angsty emotional and full of feels. This one was all that plus complicated family stuff and growing into one’s own. This had full on enemies to lovers even right to the end and what more their lives are quite intertwined.
While I’m not a huge fan of time jumps this served a purpose here as Presley had her fair share of anger and hurt in her teen years that made her rebel and yes she was sort of immature brat too. She wasted a lot of time being petty on little stuff she missed everything that could have been. She could be frustrating the start I get that sometimes regret comes late. Nathaniel has been a constant in her life, like son to her dad and always been close. He wasn’t always nice, blunt and honest but means well. Nathaniel and Presley bickering and repelled like no other. But under all that is so much tension and want. It could be hard to see but they are not indifferent at all. A complex relationship is what they have, working closer together pushed them in proximity.
It was all bound to come to explode their heated exchange, they have cute moments too sure. It was bound together by time and circumstances. They have their obstacles them to figure their way out. They fell slowly not wanting to but can’t help what they feel. While this was a romance the author brought out emotions in me like no other there was part that really hit close to home and made me sob like no other. Presley and her dad and how Nathaniel was huge part of that. This felt more like a Presley’s journey and growth to become more self realized and kinder. The romance aspect I wanted more of a little especially from Presley but it was there but subtle and at the right moments was pretty swoony.
That was actually a poignant story if I think of it. The characters their challenges and feelings. The life situations. It was well done and well written. I loved the cameos of the guys from the author’s other series, if you’ve read the Hearts books this is a good highlight. The secondary characters makes for an interesting and cute next books too.
5 STAR Review by Jodi for Ruby Red Romance Review
I love Claire Contreras. She does not have a book that I don’t fall instantly in love with all her characters. The Consequence of Falling reaffirmed that love. I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved Nathaniel and Presley. Presley has had it all her whole life. She’s never known what it truly means to sacrifice. While Nathaniel has worked hard to get where he is and for what he has. Now, Presley’s father’s health is declining and the one man she loves to dislike is her new boss.
I loved watching these two. I loved watching their relationship go from dislike, to employee/employer, to more. In the beginning Nathaniel was tough on Presley. At times he her feel like she wasn’t good enough. That bothered me some, but I think he wanted her to understand that she needed to put her best foot forward and prove herself. They both assumed things about the other that really were off base. I loved when they figured this out. I loved watching them see that they both had the same goals, wants, and needs.
I love Claire’s writing. I loved getting sucked into an amazing story and that’s just what this book did. I could not put this book down. And I found myself thinking long and hard about Nathaniel and Presley after this story ended. Please check out this awesome book.
I LOVE “enemies to lovers” stories and this was a very quick and fun read. I really liked it. <3
If you enjoyed Ms.Contreras previous works, I think you'll like this story too.
Ps. "Hearts" series are still my favorites but I very much enjoyed Nathaniel & Presley's journey. 😉
I’ve enjoyed every book I’ve read by Claire Contreras and loved this one. I love the way the story developed from Presley’s high school days to the present, catching a part of her life as she grows up with Nathaniel watching. That connection was built from that first meeting. The storyline was great about the young woman that was looking for someone to love her for herself and make her feel she was enough. Lots of love, even though the characters didn’t always know how to show it. Lots of steam and drama. I also enjoyed the visit from characters of earlier books. The whole book gave me a feeling of heart healing.
