The list of things I hate is short. Not even my soon-to-be ex-husband is on that list. Nope. I save only the worst of the worst, the crème de la crème, the absolute I cannot even for this list . . .1. Black coffee2. Rude people3. Nathaniel BradleyWhich is why when my father informs me that he’s making Nathaniel Bradley his new business partner, and in turn, my boss, I flip out. 1. He’s an … flip out.
1. He’s an annoying know-it-all.
2. He calls me a spoiled princess every chance he gets.
3. He disapproves of everything I do.
I go into this knowing I’ll hate every second in his presence. Except the longer he’s around, the more I find myself staring at his lips and remembering the one time they were on mine. I randomly find myself looking at his hands and wondering how they’d feel on my skin.
I try to snap out of it, but I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was. No matter how many times I remind myself of the times I’ve practically thrown myself at him and he’s pushed me away, I keep falling little by little.
I’d always heard that it was a bad idea to mix business with pleasure and if that’s the case, this thing with Nathaniel has demise written all over it.

This book was just fantastic it’s a true enemies to lovers tale. A spoiled brat gets everything she could ever want and it wasn’t all she wanted she wanted.
Presley knew her whole life she was to take over her family business the brewery. She didn’t have any plans and dreams of her own she needed to carry on the family dynasty. When her parents got divorced she choose to see a different story and hate her dad and his company.
She meets Nathanial and he came from nothing but wanted to succeed more than anything becoming her fathers prodigy she sees him as a enemy. He sees her as a spoiled princess and an under achiever.
As the story progresses they still hate each other but the sexual tension is very high. A few change of events shows that Presley is more than a spoiled princess she’s truly amazing and Nathanial is an over achievers and a go getter.
I really loved this story the build up the twits and turns and even the heart break. It had me in tears. I loved this story and the writing style.
I believe it takes a special kind of author that can write a character that I don’t initially connect with, but at the end of the book, I’m happy they got a HEA. Even though I have read my fair share of enemies-to-lovers romance stories, I like to see how each the author does it differently because the possibilities are endless. I found Presley Rose (Princess) to be a self-centered, entitled, over dramatic brat and I didn’t like her. Unfortunately, she is the only child of a wealthy brewer, Arthur Rose, and his socialite wife and she is used to getting her way… Until she meets Nathaniel Bradley.
Nathaniel was initially employed by Arthur to be his driver, but their relationship will prove to be so much more. Arthur takes Nathaniel under his wing and treats him like the son he never had and Nathaniel stays true and loyal. From day one, Nate is turned off by Presley’s attitude of entitlement and the battle lines are drawn. Eventually, Nate goes to NYU to better his life and during his senior year, he crosses paths with Presley again. Only this time, LiL’ Miss Entitled is making advances on him which his is rejecting.
With Nate rejecting her advances in college, Presley’s crush for him turns to pure hate and she wants nothing to do with him. Even though her father offers her a job at the family business, she turns it down to marry her college boyfriend, Adam, who goes on to become a politician… and a cheater, ending their “safe bet” marriage. Presley’s world as she has known it to turned upside down with her parents split and her marriage ending, but now she wants to get back on track with taking over the family business. Unfortunately for her, her father has brought Nathaniel in as his partner and her boss.
I really liked the fact that Claire Contreras didn’t let physical attraction lead these two characters straight into an insta-romance because I wouldn’t have believed it. This is just my opinion but I think she made Presley so distasteful and unrelatable in the beginning so that we could truly witness her growth throughout the story… I could be wrong, but it is my opinion. This book was definitely worth the read because I enjoyed the journey Nathaniel and Presley went on together and I wanted a HEA for the both of them.
** I voluntarily left a honest review after reading an advanced review copy of this book **
First 5 read of 2019! This book hooked me from page one and kept reeling me in until the very end.
I am familiar with Claire and her work but I have to say this is her best work! She was able to give me all the feels (I was sobbing into my pillow at 1 AM while trying to finish this book.)
This is a perfectly done enemies-to-lovers romance.
Nate and Presley met for the first time when she was in high school and he was in college. They didn’t start off on the right foot, and doesn’t seem to get better as the years go on. Their banter and sexual tension flourished once Presley finally divorced her husband and embraced the feelings that Nate stirred up inside her.
I loved these two together and their love story. If you are looking for a realistic romance that is emotional and steamy this is the perfect one!
Presley is the typical soiled little rich girl, beautiful sexy mouthy self centered and searching to find her place. Feeling helpless as her parents face divorce. Then we meet Nathanial an eighteen year old who works for her father who puts her in her place. Winston her father takes Nate under his wing and Nathanial grows and becomes a successful entrepreneur rich handsome pulls no punches. Presley continues down the princess road marries a politician she doesn’t love. This is the story of two young lovers and the consequences they face as they grow. This story has everything strong willed women, broken hearts, love, laughter and a happy ever after. I read this book in one setting I could not put it down… definitely a five star read that will leave wanting more…..
‘The Consequence Of Falling’ is the first book I’ve read by Claire Contreras, so I wasn’t sure what to expect, But i was pleasantly surprised.
The story is about Presley, and is told through various stages of her life. You initially learn of her childhood and the day she is informed her parents are divorcing, a day which goes from bad to worse and lands her in a car with the stranger that is ‘Nathaniel’.
Nathaniel is honest and does not hold back on his opinions, therefore informing Presley that he thinks of her as a ‘spoilt brat’. From the moment they meet they are like two competing teams, trading insults and jibes whilst being unable to stop themselves from feeling somehow connected.
You follow Presley into her adult life, learning of her failed marriage and her continuously turbulent relationship with Nathaniel. It is when they are reunited and the playing field has been levelled do they start to see each other in a different light and work together.
I enjoyed the premise of the book, however in places felt like Presley and Nathaniel’s relationship felt a little disjointed. The book has many levels of romance, feelings of inadequacy and grief and it was very realistic and true to life.
The cover of this book is stunning and is what initially attracted me to this book, it suits the story and drew me in. I’d recommend to romance lovers or someone wanting to try something new.
Presley Rose thought her life had a plan, at least she thought it did until her junior year of high school when her world changed completely. Presley and Nathaniel don’t have the best first meeting, he think she’s a spoiled brat, she thinks he’s the child her father always wanted. Those first impressions stick with them as the years go by, with Nathaniel continuing to call her princess even as he becomes a partner in her father’s business and technically her new boss. Presley is going through a divorce, trying to prove to her father she can be successful in his business, and deal with the unwelcome feelings she has overtime she’s around Nathaniel. It’s obvious they both like each other, but can they put the past they’ve shared to the side to allow love in?
Oh my word, I forgot how well Claire Contreras can write a romance. I could not put down this enemies-to-lovers story, I loved the push and pull between Presley and Nathaniel. We see some of the interactions between the two as they attend college at the same school, as Nathaniel shadows Presley’s father, and in time as Nathaniel takes on an ownership role in the company, but these glimpses only give us a bit of the chemistry that has been brewing between the two. These two are straight fire together, but it is obvious that the path to love will not be easy for them.
Nathaniel has fought his way to the top and while he desires Presley, he still sees her as a spoiled little girl. Presley, having loved and lost, is only fighting to be a good daughter to her father again, but Nathaniel threatens her patience and her time with her dad. Their romance moves fast and is incredibly sexy, but it’s only when things stop being easy that they really get to know one another truly. I loved the relationship the two had, their banter made the book just that much better, but more than anything I loved the relationship each character had with Presley’s father. He very much so is the father that everyone thinks of as partly their own and it gave this story a personal touch for me. It made everything seem sincere and realistic, so much so that I was very invested in each character individually. And yes, I cried, a lot, I always do when the characters come to life for me and in The Consequence of Falling they certainly did.
Sweet, romantic, funny, and emotional, The Consequence of Falling is a standalone by Claire Contreras that is sure to please all readers. The enemies-to-lovers storyline feels fresh in this book and the witty banter between Presley and Nathaniel gives a humorous touch to an otherwise emotionally charged story. I highly recommend this one to my fellow romance lovers.

Meeting someone that impacts your life at 15 yrs old is pretty hard to believe. Nathaniel came into Presley’s life while she was still in high school and he was in college. As someone Presley’s dad chose to mentor, Nathaniel was everything that Presley despised. Getting off on the wrong foot, Presley and Nathaniel would never realize how that one interaction would set the course for their future.
In college – Presley and Nathaniel end up in the same places from time to time. There is certainly no love lost between the two. In spite of the animosity and jealousy Presley feels for Nathaniel, she can’t help but notice that he is certainly attractive and isn’t lacking for female attention. One night proved particularly interesting with the two as Presley propositions Nathaniel but he gently declines. Years will pass before their paths cross again.
Time finds a way to bring unsuspecting individuals back to face their aversions. That is certainly the case when Presley discovers that her dad will be going into business with Nathaniel. Essentially – making Nathaniel the boss over Presley in a company that she should have inherited all along. This is an added stressor that Presley doesn’t need weighing on her shoulders. With her personal life crumbling due to a divorce, the last thing Presley wants is to deal with Nathaniel at this point in life.
With their love/hate relationship in full force, Presley has to decide how to handle all of the upheaval in her life. Nothing can be taken at face value and Presley will discover just how difficult life can weight you down when she is thrown curveball after curveball. Where does Nathaniel stand when the dust is settled? Only time will tell if their world crashes and burns……
Have you ever gotten so excited to discover a ‘go to’ author is releasing a book that you are excited to read….then the let down is like a deflating balloon? Yes….I know the feeling as well. The Consequence of Falling is my least favorite book to date by author Claire Contreras. Oh how I wanted to be absorbed into a book from an author that has had some amazing books to date. I hate saying that…..why? Well…it sounds a bit harsh, but the disappointment was so unexpected.
First I will say the book had some serious editing issues. In today’s market….there are just so many ways to overcome editing problems. Use those Beta’s to ‘proof’ if needed!! Anyway….I regress…let me move on to why I didn’t ooze with love for this book.
There were so many facets of this book that pulled the story into competing directions. The endgame was the focus without the ‘meat and potatoes’ to get from one point to the other. In the beginning…we take one simple moment and then time jump dramatically. Then again….one scene and then a massive jump in time without the plot running in a smooth track to get from one point in life to another. All of it was an attempt to jump from A to Z. The gaps just weren’t enough. You can imagine all you want, but he endgame was the only focus and the buildup was lost from that type of style in writing.
The very end of the book was good. You have a wrap up of what the author is trying to achieve. However – combining that with the choppiness in about 75% of the book left me with a lack of connection and understanding between the two main characters. The intent was there, have no doubt. The execution was what failed to get me to the place that my emotions should have landed after the ending of the book. Does this affect my perception of how I will look at a Contreras book? Nope….I will still dive into the next read that the author puts out there!
Oh the Angst! Always love stories from Claire!! So many feels in this book. Buy today!!
Claire Contreras is a one click author for me and I have been looking forward to reading The Consequence of Falling for so many reasons, but mainly because of the power that CC’s words have on me.
I knew from the title that the story would be an emotional rollercoaster and gosh it was so much more…
“One thing I did learn throughout my life was that the weight of unspoken words always felt heavier than the burden of the consequences they carried.”
Surprisingly enough, it’s not the relationship between the hero Nathaniel Bradley and the heroine Presley Rose that gave me all the feels, it’s the whole STORY!
It’s the relationship between Winston Rose and Nathaniel, between Presley and her dad, between Presley and Nathaniel … and when my first Life Jensen appeared, I was long time gone.
You see, Presley is a spoiled princess who always gets what she wants – she’s impatient, well- mannered and arrogant. Her relationship with her dad has always been rocky and challenging but the love between them is unique and powerful.
Their relationship was so relatable and their dialogue, their pain and silence brought tears to my eyes numerous times.
Nathaniel Bradley is just perfection- I’m in awe and I love him with all my heart- I love his cockiness and his big heart, I love how he is with Winston and how bossy he is with Presley, I love how is the Alpha in one hand but just a guy when he is with his friends. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM .
“With Nathaniel, things felt electric, like something we could power the world with.”
The Consequence of Falling is beautifully written , I loved every word… I believed every word!!
5 emotional Stars
“what’s in our hearts never dies.”
I enjoyed this enemies to lovers romance and the cover is absolutely beautiful! It had a great background story that made you feel like you know the characters. It does drag out the enemies part a little too long in my opinion but was still good despite that. It’s a book that will make you angry, laugh as well as cry.
All the stars for The Consequence of Falling!
I adored this book, Nathaniel and Presley are amazing. It’s kind of a twisted princess and a pauper story. Nathaniel may have started out on the wrong side of the tracks, but he definitely ended on the right side. Then you have Presley, the spoiled daughter of his mentor, or is she as spoiled as she seems? This enemies-to-lovers story packs the slow burn, as well as a truly enjoyable storyline. I loved reading from the past to the present, and how these two evolved over the course of many years. The Consequence of Falling is some of Ms. Contreras’ best work, it had passion, it had angst, both tears and laughter. I cannot wait for more from this talented writer!
I definitely liked Nathaniel more than I liked Presley.
At least in the beginning, because she was just finding
herself at a young age, and he was already ahead
of her in the game of life. So he always seemed like
the more put together of the two, and knew what he
wanted. Since Presley was raised differently, she
saw the world differently than he did and that’s
where they bumped heads. As the book continues
you see that he had her pegged all wrong and he
encourages her to fight for what she wants and
believes in. I liked the fact that some characters
her other books showed up in this one, even if it
was for a little bit.
In The Consequence of Falling you meet Presley who comes across as a self centered teenager that throws tantrums to get her way. When she met Nathaniel, she met her match. As time goes on in their lives, they come to realize just how much they have in common. This is definitely a beautiful, heartfelt and heartbreaking story with a happily ever after.
Possible Spoilers:
The Consequence Of Falling was a great love story!!! I loved how it had history between the main characters, and that it was told from the beginning of their “relationship” not in flashbacks. I don’t mind flashbacks but it seems like that’s how most of the books I’ve been reading have been so this was refreshing!! Presley is constantly seeking her father’s love & affection yet it always seems to be given to his young apprentice, Nathaniel. Presley finds herself feeling like he’s the child her father wanted, not her….Nathaniel is smart, sexy, and completely annoying in Presley’s eyes. She can’t stand him, yet she can’t stop thinking about him. Years and years go by and their relationship gets more and more frustrating for Presley, especially once they become partners in her Father’s business. I love the banter back & forth between Nathaniel & Presely. It was fun, it was sexy, and it was humorous. This is what I love about Claire’s writing. It’s all you could ask for. One of my favorite things about this book was all the appearances of characters from Claire’s other books, Victor, aaaaaahhhhh, love Victor, Nicole, Mia and Jensen….so exciting to get even a small glimpse of them!!! I loved this story so much!!!!
Oh my! My love for this book is infinite and one that I quickly devoured in one sitting, which obviously means that it made my #RSFave list for 2019. The Consequence of Falling is a solid enemies-to-lovers romance that many can enjoy.
I was a little bit worried about how young they were when the story started, but as you read their story, it was a bit essential so you can see everything that’s happening with the both of them as the years go by. And I will say that I truly felt bad for Presley. She was a child seeking attention and love from her father. I know many will say how much of a bratty princess she was, but give the girl a break. It was clear as day when it really did seem, that her father gave all his attention to Nathaniel. And that definitely draws this line between them, but no matter how much time passes between them, they’re always popping into each other lives. And the chemistry has always been simmering between them.
I truly loved these two together, they had soooooo much to learn about one another. And the banter is the absolute best between both of them. They also had a lot of growth throughout the story, Presley most of all. She really came into herself by the end, but my goodness, I shed some tears over her story. And it made me appreciate her so much more.
Loved Presley’s personal story as well as her and Nathaniel’s story, The Consequence of Falling is definitely a book that I can re-read over and over again!
**I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED FOR AN ADVANCE READER’S COPY **
Claire Contreras
I really enjoyed this book. Enemies to lovers is my absolute favorite troupe and Claire Contreras’ Consequence of Falling did it justice. Sexy, emotional, and angsty, I was hooked from the very first page.
Nathaniel and Presley butted heads like crazy. They’re both so strong willed and determined not to back down. When they went back and forth, exchanging barbs, it created this yummy sexual tension and I just ate it all up. I will admit there were moments where these two annoyed the crap out of me. However, I still wanted them together so very badly. I just loved their chemistry.
That being said, as much as I loved the relationship between Presley and Nathaniel, it was the relationship between Presley and her father that struck a stronger cord with me. I’m gonna be honest, it hit a little closer to home than I would have liked. I was not prepared for the onslaught of emotions that it brought out of me. It felt super personal. That’s just the brilliance of Claire Contreras’ writing.
Consequences of Falling is a really good read in one sitting book kind of book. It will make you feel every emotion possible. I highly recommend picking it up.
The Consequence of Falling is a slow burning enemies to lovers romance that I highly enjoyed!!
The enemy line is drawn quickly between Presley and Nathaniel right from their first meeting and continues to grow stronger through the years.
There are a couple of occasions when temptation dares one or the other to cross that enemy line but the other always pushes away (stop fighting it already).
During each and every heated interaction they push each other’s buttons like no one else can, and all the while crazy sparks are flying between them igniting an undeniable magnetic pull that is pushing and pulling and daring the question….. How thin is the line between love and hate????
My first 5 star read of 2019. I laughed, cried and my heart melted. You won’t want this story to end. I read this book in one sitting. Once I started I couldn’t put it down. Presley and Nathaniel’s story will leave you with a really great book hangover.
4.5 Stars
The Consequence of Falling is the all new stand-alone novel by Claire Contreras. HOLY WOWWWWWWW!!! This book was absolutely amazing! It gave me ALL the feels. It was so much more than a romance novel-it shows you how timing in life is everything. That sometimes people aren’t who you think they are and that family is everything.
Presley and Nathaniel meet when she is 15 and he is 18. Nathaniel thinks she’s a spoiled brat and Presley thinks he’s her father’s pet. So it’s safe to say they did not start off on the right foot and they definitely are not BFF’s! As the years go by, their relationship doesn’t change. Until one day it does. Neither of them were expecting it. What happens when you fall in love with the one person you thought you hated?!
Omggggg! I loved this story so much! I swear I could not put it down! The chemistry between the characters, the writing-it was all incredible. Ms. Contreras never fails to make me fall in love with her words and her characters! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
I enjoyed this book. It had a few of my favorite tropes all mixed into one storyline (enemies to lovers, office romance, friends to lovers and skates the line of a 2nd chance romance) so kudos to the author for making that work.
Nathaniel and Presley met when they were teens and not under the best circumstances. That meeting set the tone for the beginning of their love/hate, non traditional relationship.
Between the exchanges of smart remarks, witty banter and criticism, there is an attraction you can feel between the two but neither will openly admit. Both also have their own reasons for disliking each other which fuels the storyline and propels us down the road several years later where situations have changed and a new set of obstacles are put in their way.
As the story continues to unfold, we get the build up between Nathaniel and Presley which keeps the story moving at a great pace. You get the push/ pull, sexy chemistry and steamy scenes that has you both applauding and wanting to smack them both at the same time because these two have their moments of greatness AND stupidity.
It does have it’s sad moments but for me, I wouldn’t call this a book full of angst. There are situations that happen to these characters but it doesn’t completely break them. They both bounce back and when they finally get their heads on straight, they deliver a HEA that you love and expect from this author.
There were a few inconsistencies in the story (a slight oversight maybe)but nothing that derailed the story or took away from this being a good book.
I would recommend The Consequence Of Falling and any other book by this author because she consistently puts out enjoyable reads.
