The list of things I hate is short. Not even my soon-to-be ex-husband is on that list. Nope. I save only the worst of the worst, the crème de la crème, the absolute I cannot even for this list . . .1. Black coffee2. Rude people3. Nathaniel BradleyWhich is why when my father informs me that he’s making Nathaniel Bradley his new business partner, and in turn, my boss, I flip out. 1. He’s an … flip out.
1. He’s an annoying know-it-all.
2. He calls me a spoiled princess every chance he gets.
3. He disapproves of everything I do.
I go into this knowing I’ll hate every second in his presence. Except the longer he’s around, the more I find myself staring at his lips and remembering the one time they were on mine. I randomly find myself looking at his hands and wondering how they’d feel on my skin.
I try to snap out of it, but I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was. No matter how many times I remind myself of the times I’ve practically thrown myself at him and he’s pushed me away, I keep falling little by little.
I’d always heard that it was a bad idea to mix business with pleasure and if that’s the case, this thing with Nathaniel has demise written all over it.

A beautifully written enemies-to-lovers romance with the best banter! I really enjoyed this one by Claire.
The Consequence of Falling was an angsty enemies-to-lovers romance! Claire Contreras knows how to write emotional, butterflies in your stomach, stabbing in the heart stories!!
Nathaniel Bradley was determined. Sexy with tats, he came from nothing and he built his business from the ground up. Thanks in part to his relationship with Presley’s father, Winston he becomes a very successful man.
Presley Rose was one of those heroines you hate and love. In the beginning she was spoiled, entitled, and naive. As the years past she endures hardships and carves her own path and begins working for her father’s company.
Nathaniel and Presley always bickered since they were teens. With time that push and pull between them becomes strong. Both of these characters did a lot of growing up and healing in order to overcome their obstacles and finally be together.
This story was sweet, sexy, and at times rather frustrating. But the beauty of Claire is she balances it all out perfectly!
I went into this all for hate-loving Nathaniel, but I loved him right away and quickly fell for him and Presley. THE CONSEQUENCE OF FALLING has “all the feels” of a Claire Contreras book, plus some cameos from her other books. She tricked me into loving Nathaniel and made me cry, and I don’t even mind.
4.5 Stars
Presley is 15 when she meets 18 year old Nathaniel for the first time. Her rich dad hired him to do odd jobs for him and that day’s job was to pick her up from school.
They did not start their relationship as best of friends. He thinks she’s a spoiled little princess and she thinks he’s an … idiot!
They meet again through the years. Presley is always attracted to him – but they always argue back and forth like two old married people!
Nathaniel is working his way up the ladder in Presley’s dad’s company – and making his own money and Presley is getting married… and divorced …
Now she’s back home and about to start working for her dad’s beer empire – only he doesn’t own the company anymore – he just sold half of it to Nathaniel!
And now they have to work together constantly.
The princess and the idiot .. who always smells so good and looks amazing in his suits and who looks at her lips all the time.
Ugh!
LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN ….
What will happen to Presley & Nathaniel?
Will there be a HEA?
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!
Awww, that was adorable!
It’s a bit of a slow-burn romance. We kind of notice the attraction the first time they meet as teenagers, but they just can’t be civil with each other. They argue and bicker and insult and the reader just knows that this is all just the most adorable and fun foreplay!
But now is finally the time for them. Of course it will take them forever to understand that the one person for them has been so close all along. And the reader has an amazing time watching them fight and argue their way to that happily ever after.
This was a really great romance. Sweet, funny, sparky, sexy with a few very moving and heartbreaking moments.
I loved reading it!
We even see some old friends for a few seconds!
(Which was ok for me – I read all the Hearts books – but it could also be that other people were mentioned, from books I didn’t read? Or books that are planned? Just a little too many people for my taste. No idea if we’ll see them one day or already have. At least I recongnized the Hearts-series people. LOL!!!)
Another tiny little thing that bothered me a bit.
The beginning was interesting and sweet and fun but then once they ‘got together’ … there was a lot of sexiness and not much more … and then it got a bit more interesting again towards the end. Maybe a little bit of drama or excitement should’ve/could’ve been thrown into the middle of the book – to break up the sexy times. I still loved the book, but it could’ve been a tiny bit … deeper or with a bit more detail or .. I don’t even know what I mean. I really liked it. Cried a bit even. But I was always hoping for a tiny bit … more.
Maybe Nathaniel wasn’t happening as this sexy-alpha-hero person the way I wanted/expected him to. He even gets his own POV and he’s such an amazing guy, but he’s also not really present. It’s all about Presley and her dad and the company. Nathaniel gets lost in there somehow/somewhere. And he deserves better.
THE CONSEQUENCE OF FALLING was a very adorable frenemies-to-lovers-beer-office-almost-stepbrother love story! Run to your nearest amazon for your own NATHANIEL – this one is MINE!!!
Officially My 1st by author
I found this author thru the read me romance podcast and this is my 1st time reading one of her books. I enjoyed getting lost in this story where these characters fight the pull they hold for eachother, one of the best part of this story was the way the side characters brought me to the front seat of the situation.
I will not give spoilers but will say it does hold a heart aching scene that hit a personal recent event in my life and Mrs Contreras found the words i could never when events like these hold us hostage.
My reason for that lost star is the heroine personally i held a like/dislike for her and this is offcourse my own personal stance so no one should be deterred my lack of star.
This book hooked me from the first page until the last. I instantly fell in love with the characters and the book. All the things the main characters had to go through just to be together. This books definitely took me on an emotional roller coaster and I couldn’t put it down until I finished and even when I finished I was swiping trying to get more pages to appear because I didn’t want these two characters story to end, I wanted more of these two.
I loved this book and I’m definitely putting it on my list of favorites.
I love enemies to lovers stories. There is something about them that I just can’t resist.
Presley and Nate weren’t exactly enemies but they started off on the wrong foot.
Presley is rich and a little bit spoiled, and Nate is hardworking man, driven to make something out of his life. They met at the very wrong time.Presley was having hard time with her parents divorcing and she felt a little bit ignored by them, and Nate was recovering from his own problems. This leads Nate to think about Presley as spoiled princess and in return Presley thinks that Nate is just a rude idiot.
From their very first meeting these two were bickering at each other about everything. And that is the thing that I liked the most about them actually. They are both stubborn people and they could’ve ended up together a long time ago,but no,they just chose the hard way.
As the story progresses you can see these two growing as characters, moving on from their fears and giving a chance to their love.
The romance was everything in this book. You can see passion between Nate and Presley and how much they are into each other.
This book made me laugh a lot of time and I really enjoyed reading it.There were some scenes that made me sad,but in general I enjoyed this were much.
The writing was amazing,I love this author more with every book she publishes.
If you are a fan of enemies-to-lovers romances, Claire Contreras delivers one that you will inhale. The Consequence of Falling features two people who really don’t like each other all that much–at least, that’s what they want to believe–who have to learn to let go of their biases and preconceived notions and allow themselves to fall.
Presley, a pampered, spoiled only child of a wealthy beer brewer and his socialite wife, takes an immediate dislike to Nathaniel, the young guy her father hires to be his driver. Something about Nathaniel sets Presley on edge: she sees a nemesis in him and nothing more. For his part, Nathaniel sees the princess, the girl who throws a tantrum because she’s made to wait in the rain.
Over the first few chapters, Claire Contreras shows you the beginnings of Presley and Nathaniel’s relationship–their bickering, their arguing, their fighting–as she also builds and builds their sexual interest, tension, and needs.
One of the things I liked about this book was how flawed Presley and Nathaniel are. They make mistakes, say hurtful things, behave selfishly, and sometimes operate from a position of fear and insecurity rather than faith in who they are. Neither one is too good to be true. In fact, just when you start to think that they’ve sorted themselves out, Claire Contreras reminds you that, no, these two are human and far from perfect.
I also loved the sexy times. MY GOODNESS! They are fabulous, and I devoured every word. Sex is one of the few times when Nathaniel and Presley can let down their guards and be honest with each other, and watching that happen is so wonderful.
Grab some tissues, though. There is a subplot in this book that caused me physical pain to read because of its sadness. So thanks for the buckets of tears, Claire Contreras. I’m not sure I’m all that happy with you over that.
What does it mean to fall? Claire Contreras shows you this, not just between Presley and Nathaniel, but between them and other characters, too. You have to trust that you will be okay. Stronger, even. Happier. More at peace. More fulfilled. But first you have to let go, and that, as Nathaniel and Presley learn, is the hardest thing to do.
What a fabulous story! I fell in love with Claire’s stories with Kaleidoscope Hearts.
This is the story of Nathaniel and Presley. They have a long history and Claire does a wonderful job of telling their backstory without making it seem tedious or too long. You get enough of their history to make the story flow so easily.
Presley comes across as a spoiled brat, you can see her immaturity in the beginning of the story and her growth and maturity till the end. I admired the way she stood up for herself even if it made her look petulant. I also admired how she came to realize when she should speak and when it was best to walk away.
Nathaniel is an instigator, he is the epitome of the little boy that would pull the hair of the girl he liked. That made him just like a sweet-tart to me. Yes I said sweet-tart, he could be sweet, but he also recognized when he was a bit brutal with his words at Presley.
Nathaniel and Presley’s relationship is like a thin line between love and hate. Their chemistry was like a house on fire! I was so engrossed with their push and pull relationship that I couldn’t put this story down until it was over.
I have never read a Claire Contreras story that I haven’t fell in love with! This is just one more! Well done!!
Claire brings us an enemies to lovers story that spans years. Half of Presley and Nathanial’s lives, really. These two people first meet when Presley is 15 and Nathanial is 18, and to say they get off to a rocky start is an understatement. They spend the next 18 years with Nate picking on Presley and her rolling her eyes at him, bickering over any and every little thing.
This was the classic tale of boy likes girl, so to show he likes her he is mean to her. But girl, not knowing this, thinks he’s just being a dumb, mean jerk. But because Nate works for Presley’s father, she sees him all the time. And the push and pull between them goes on for years, until Presley goes to work for her father. She’s navigating a divorce and has reconnected with her father. Nate has gone on to start his own company, but has a lot of business dealings with Presley’s father. And initially, the teasing from Nate continues to rile Presley up, him still calling her the hated nickname Princess that he’s used for the past 18 years.
It doesn’t take long for the dynamic to change between them, and in between the bickering and teasing, there are some pretty steamy interactions. But Presley is still reeling from a cheating husband that she’s quickly trying to be rid of, and her emotions are still pretty raw. Should she even be thinking about anything with Nate, even though she’s had feelings for him for almost two decades?
Claire knows how to write angst! These two people had me grinding my teeth and shaking my head in frustration! Half the time I wanted to throttle Nate for constantly saying something mean to Presley, but then I’d want to shake her for constantly acting like she didn’t care. And then they finally got together and I was like, FINALLY!! But then they’d be right back to their old selves with the bickering and back and forth, and I just knew my heart was going to take a beating before these two really, truly figured themselves out.
I absolutely loved Presley’s father, who plays a very pivotal role throughout the story. I never had a close relationship with my dad, so I literally teared up several times with relief that Presley had finally pulled her head out of her butt and realized how important her father was to her. And he was a very important person in Nate’s life as well, being a mentor to him since he was 18.
You angst loving readers are going to love this story. There were a lot of things I wanted to smack both Nate and Presley for doing or saying to each other, but ultimately, they are both inherently good people who willingly do as much as they can for others. And if you’ve read some of Claire’s Hearts series books, you will love seeing some beloved characters pop up…not sayin’ who, you need to read and find out!
Presley Rose just wanted her father to spend time with her. Now with her failed marriage she is getting that chance. Nathaniel Bradley was the son her dad always wanted and didn’t that just irritate Presley to no end. Their love/hate relationship was just foreplay for their attraction. Presley needs to realize that Nate is what she needs.
Some love stories are inevitable. Only the people in them don’t believe it. Or rather they don’t want to believe it. Sometimes the denial is so strong they take it for hate. And as a reader it is the most amazing experience to read about two clueless people fall in love slowly, silently and completely. The Consequence of Falling by Claire Contreras is such an experience.
Nathaniel Bradley is a rags to riches story. And it was possible with help of Winston Rose, businessman and father of Presley Rose. Presley was brought up in middle of luxury and abundance but she is not the “Princess” Nate taunts her to be.Their chemistry and interaction is explosive from the first meeting. The story spans over decades. So some long years, a broken marriage and a broken heart later, Presley is back to working for her dying father’s company. But her dad has sold a part to Nate, his prodigy and Presley doesn’t like it even a single bit. And we start a rocking journey. They want to hide their attraction behind the constant push and pull. Feelings, past secrets, future threats, passion, personal issues and sexual tension all mix up to create a delicious story! Will Nate and Presley get a HEA? You have to wait till the very end of the story.
Claire Contreras is so good at writing deep emotional stories. I felt my eyes getting wet so many times during it. This book is a love story, a motivational story and a spiritual story packed in one. Yes the core is romance and passion. But the messages of self discovery and self actualization spread throughout the story were beautiful. I love Presley so much. She is not perfect. She has own struggles, admirable strength and own beauty. And I swooned over and over again for Nathaniel. This arrogant, handsome, confident, intelligent, smart and self made man made me crazy. The family and friends play a significant role in the story and that was awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed going through the journey of the young couple. There was chemistry, heartbreak, separation and reunion. It was not an easy story but that’s what I loved about it. Their relationship got through the test of time finally!
The Consequence of Falling has the warmth of love, the fire of passion and the storm of emotions. This is an epic and sensational love story I cannot stop thinking about!
(RECEIVED ARC FOR HONEST REVIEW)
The consequence of falling is an amazing story of two people who had to find themselves before they found love in one another. Claire Contreras is such a great writer, she develops these characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and have such a deep emotional connection to.
Presley and Nathaniel’s relationship is the true definition of hate to love you but love to hate you kind of romance. They both fight pass demons, they both are stubborn, and they both are very out spoken. I was captivated by their journey and all of the trails and tribulations that they had to deal with in order to have their peace of happiness.
This story had me laughing, crying, and hot throughout all the steamy parts, but it was such a good read that i had a hard time trying to put down my kindle in order to focus on anything else.

FABULOUS!!!
QUOTE ~ a kiss from this man had me feeling like I’d been kissed wrong all along.
I was experiencing a bit of a raging slump and then I opened this and couldn’t stop reading. The writing of course is amazing by such a talented author. The characters are real with real emotions, insecurities, doubts, mistakes and hearts that love deeply.
Presley ~ This girl is funny and smart. I was able to understand the way she felt and the anger she held onto due to her experiences was no doubt warranted. I’d probly feel exactly like she did. Then we see her growth and the change of heart. I really love this girl.
QUOTE ~ One thing I did learn throughout my life was that the weight of unspoken words always felt heavier than the burden of the consequences they carried.
Nathaniel ~ This guy can be challenging, a jerk and rude BUT I saw it!! I saw it and I liked him even when I didn’t like him LOL… He has a big heart with all this love to give but of course he has a past, some preconceived notions and goals that he uses to safe guard his heart. I love him.
I really enjoyed this book. From their first encounter to the last Nathaniel was everything I wanted in a book boyfriend. Presley is a strong, feisty woman who has lost herself being in a loveless marriage and this book is all about how she starts living HER LIFE again. Nathaniel comes from a different place than Presley, he has worked hard for the things he’s accomplished but he’s always felt like he wasn’t good enough for her. The chemistry between these two is HOT and their story is so good!
The Ultimate Crush…The Forever Kind of Love
4.5 Starts An enemies-to-lovers romance that spans more than a decade and will suck you into their once in a lifetime love story from the very beginning.
Presley and Nathaniel met when she was fifteen and he was eighteen. These two butted heads from the start. However, that line between love and hate has never been more blurred.
Presley had it all. She led a privileged life. Until it all came crashing down. Now she’s newly single, trying to get over the past hurt from her cheating ex-husband and get a foot in the door at her father’s business. It was always supposed to be her legacy, to run the family business. The only problem with all of this is Nathaniel.
Nathaniel is a self-made man. Presley’s dad hired him when he was just a kid. He’s always been like the son her father never had. Nathaniel went on to make his own success but still works with Presley’s dad. With a new business venture, Nathaniel is Presley’s boss and she’s all grown up…so there is no holding back.
This is a story that was beautifully told and full of so much love. It’s about family, forgiveness, moving forward and love. Nathaniel is a good man. Presley is just trying to find her way. She loves big, with an incredible heart. When the two finally get past their baggage, everything falls into place. You will love it!
This was a great enemies to lovers, office romance. I instantly was swooning for Nathaniel. He had that cocky personality with witty comebacks. Presley was his match. She was always going to toe to toe with him. She saw it as he hated her. He saw it as she was his match. We start with them meeting: her a spoiled teenager and him a driver for her dad. Fast forward to her getting married and it’s all wrong. As she is putting her life together after a divorce she is also working in her dad’s company with Nathaniel who is no longer a driver but a business mogul. As Nathaniel tries to help her rise of course she fights him. Soon the insults turn into passionate kisses and the fighting goes to the bedroom in the hottest ways. I wanted this couple together from the start. But they didn’t make it easy. They drove me nuts! Fighting each other and never really expressing how they felt. Then this book had me in tears. Tragedy strikes. I really had no clue if these two could get past their grief and be together. Hold on for an emotional ride. But romance fans, there is plenty of steam. I dare you not to fall for this couple.
This was a buddy read that I did. So a chapter a day which means for a long reading time. However, the book was really good. I loved Nathaniel and Persley. They are both stubborn, snarky and determined. They’ve spent years with their paths crossing, both making snide comments when they do but it’s what’s hidden behind those comments that matter. Nathaniel definitely has some swoon worthy moments. Presley will make you want to slap her at times but they both deserve happiness. This book was a great read and I’ll definitely check out more books from Clair Contreras.
The Consequence of Falling is wonderful read. Presley and Nathanial’s enemies to lovers story is one I recommend!
My emotions were all over place while reading this book. Living most of your life in love with another and just settling. Nathaniel was a patient man with such an amazing heart. Presley was a such a strong woman. I’m not going to lie. There were many parts that I bawled my eyes out. This story was brilliantly written and hits you in all the feels!
