Lily’s writing is wonderful, I say that because I am effortlessly and immediately pull in, her writing just flows. This book is as good if not better as her first. As for a fantasy subject what’s better than old world witches, their families in Ireland and a new world new witch still learning the ropes. Great romance is afoot between Lily and Jack, Iam blown away with where she takes it and so much growing has gone on with Connor and Rory, all are special, I’m sure you have your favorite mine is Rory. It’s fun to get to know each of them a little better. Lily’s books are rich with description, detail and adventure. Her second book reminds me of the hero’s journey with the test Scarlet, Jack and friend try to endure. I was actually on the edge of my seat during the trials as the boys back home try to hold down the fort ha ha. Oh my gosh I could never have imagined where this was going to take me and only hoped that the outcome would reveal itself at the end.
This is the first book I have read by author Lily Velez.
And it won’t be my last. I loved it. The characters are so wonderful.
It is filled with intrigue from beginning to end. Such a wonderful book.
This series is very good. We have Mystery, mayhem, suspense, witches, demons, Gods, and mystical creatures. Scarlet had open the portal for the damned to come to earth. Now she has to stop them, but how will she do it? She is told she has to go to the otherworld, but what will happen to Jack if he goes with? Can she fight all the demons and trials? Can she save her dad? Can she save Jack? Can she save the world? Is there anyway to save the world from the Dark Lord? What is all this feelings that Jack and me have? What are going to happen to the Connelly brothers? Can they bring their mother back? I received a free copy for my honest review.
10 stars!!!! Five stars are not enough for The Connelly Curse!
This second installment of the Celtic Witches is just as mindblowing, action-packed, magic infused and sweet romance oriented as the first one! Lily Velez successfully continues to expand the Celtic Witches universe, adding new characters -friends and foes- in the mix, and further developing the existing characters’ personalities. Friendship, familial ties, romantic interests all blend together seamlessly in an epic urban adventure, that kept me breathless throughout reading.
I know it might sound cliché, but I’m anxiously waiting for Book 3!!!!!!!
A true gem in Celtic magic! Scarlet was truly fascinating and really growing into her character. And those Connelly Boy’s, mmm…mmm…I love all 4 of them!
“The Connelly Curse” was a outstanding balance of magic, action, adventure, Ireland and a tad of YA romance. It was a roller coaster of emotions and heart pumping fun!
I can’t wait for the next installment!!!!
Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
The Connelly Curse is the second book in the Celtic Witches series by Lily Velez and let me tell you there was no second book slump here, I loved The Connelly Curse, it was even better than the first.
There are so many reasons why I love this book and why it’s better than the first. Let me start by saying that I love the fact that Scarlet has found her people. In the first book Scarlet was all alone in a new country, had lost someone so important to her and just discovered her magical heritage. I was just discovering this witchy world and getting use to the magic in it, the first book was an introduction while I was deep in it in Curse. Scarlet and the Connelly brothers have gotten a lot closer in this book, she is part of a group and she is now more connected to her magic and this new world she is a part of. The brothers are figuring out the mess that is their family and they are trying their best to guide Scarlet and protect the humans around them.
This adventure takes place very close to the events in the Connelly Boys and it now that we discover all is not right with Scarlet’s father and has the Dark Lord trying to break into the mortal realm. Things get very exciting from there, I am talking about dangerous spirits, nosy mortals, magic, gods and so much more. While Jack and Scarlet travel to Otherworld to get something they need to stop the Dark Lord, the brothers have to contend with the vicious spirits that are roaming around all over Ireland.
Scarlet’s and Jack’s time in the Otherworld was full of adventure, danger, gods, revelations and so much more. They also have a little help from Kai. I wasn’t sure how I felt about him in the first book but I love his character now. He reminds me of another character but I just can’t place him. I also love how much closer Jack and Scarlet are getting, they make an excellent team.
Lily has manage to create a world that is very addictive, I want the next book so badly. This is the kind of series that I love to read at night curled-up on the sofa, it gives the book a little extra atmosphere and this book series would make an amazing television series. The characters are great and the magic is even better. The pace of the plot was so good, I wasn’t bored even for a second and I loved that I didn’t know where the story was going to go and I wasn’t trying to figure it out, I was just going with the flow.
The Connelly Curse was so very exciting and I hated when I had to put the book down. I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. If you like things such as, witches, demons, otherworlds, magic, gods, family drama and so much more, then I suggest you grab this series.
Scarlet and Jack go on a mission that ends up in a Trial with 3 challenges to complete. While they are gone the other 3 are working on trying to wake up mom, but not having a lot of luck. Conner, Lucas and Rory have some things to work out, and end up coming to an agreement of sorts. There is lots of action and even some romance. I can’t wait to see what these guys get up to next time.
The Connelly Curse takes Scarlett and Jack on a dangerous adventure in the Otherworld, while Connor, Lucas and Rory are left in Rosalyn Bay dealing with the aftermath of the Reaping.
I thought book 2 was even better than the first and I’m really enjoying this world of Celtic folklore and magic. The writing is good and the action is non-stop. Oh, and I loved the different POVs.
I am totally invested and really hope book 3 isn’t too far off. There are so many questions and much more to learn about each character.
I think I may need to start from the beginning and re-read!
Better than book 1!!! … OMG I just adore this book so much!!!… It has a lot of action, different POV from all the Connelly brothers and Scarlet, of course, which enriched the story even more, great world building, this ride through Elsewhere was amazing, the Trials Scarlet, Jack and Kai faced kept me on edge the entire time … Every one of them fougth to overcome their own demon, including the Connelly brothers that stayed home to keep an eye on the town… And the moment when Scarlet and Jack finally bonded, oh my, so romantic … Love the way all this battles make them stronger and close to each other… Can’t wait what they will gave on book 3!!!
This book picks up right off of Book one and gives you more insight on all the brothers. The characters are well developed and the plot pulls you right in. Can’t wait for the next book.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
Who knew going to the Otherworld could be so exciting? Ms. Velez does an amazing job with this book. This book starts right where the first book ends and is a non-stop adventure. This is the second book in the Connelly Boys series and is not meant to be read as a stand alone. In this book, the author tells us about the youngest brother, Rory, coming into his magic and the interesting past of the demon named Kai. However, the majority of the book is centered around the main characters Scarlet and Jack, their quest to save the world from demons and how it impacts their relationship. I loved this book so much I read it in two days. It is a great young adult fantasy series with minimal kissing scenes.
This is the second book in The Celtic Witches series. This is a Ya novel.
The Connelly Curse is stocked full of Celtic lore, fantasy, and adventure.
After the first book our gang of fighting witches think they only have to deal with the damned that was released if the aftermath of the Reaping. What they do not know is that there is one person still possessed by a demon. To save this person from said possession and to keep him from releasing even more demons, they will have to go searching for the Eternal Light. Jack and Scarlet have to travel to another realm not knowing if they will make it back alive.
Connor, Rory, and Lucas have to deal with demons, Rory’s witching year, and still trying to keep up appearances at school.
This is such a wonderfully interesting second book in the series. I love how Lily Velez adds so much Celtic lore entwined into this series. I have become completely invested in this series. I cannot wait for book 3.
I really enjoyed the fact we got different view points in this book. Everyone is fighting some sort od demon in this book. More budding romance happens between Jack and Scarlet. I am hoping that a romance is happening for Rory too but I’m not one hundred percent sure that is where the author is going with him. This is a lot of action in this book. It is a great addition to the first book. I can’t wait for the next one.
*I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
Scarlet and the four Connelly boys continue their epic adventure protecting each other and the non-magical locals who fear and despise them from evil. Each of the five has different magical powers, and very different personalities, and the plot is so twisty, it’s, well, magical. The second book in the series it can be read as a stand alone, but reading the books in sequence does enrich the story.
Even better then the first book! This story is amazing! I absolutely loved the first book. So it’s not surprising that this second book is just as awesome! So much has happened. My gosh it was non stop action and heart pounding goodness. I couldn’t stop reading until the end. That’s how great this story is. I love love Scarlet & Jack! Fated!!! How romantic. Despite everything that they faced they both managed to come out stronger and their relationship is so swoon worthy. as for the brothers… what can I say they are my favs as well! I also can’t help being intrigued by Kai! And not to mention Rory’s fox! There’s something so magical and special about his fox! I can’t wait to find out what happens next! I highly recommend this as a must read series! Just keeps getting better and better!
The Connelly Curse is the follow-up to The Connelly Boys. This book starts off with a bang! Scarlet and Jack go on a quest together that is required to accomplish several critical things. They grew as individuals and also strengthened the bond they had with each other. We also get Connor, Lucas, and Rory’s perspectives. I loved being able to see their thought processes and feelings. Connor is so loyal, Lucas is Lucas, he uses humor to escape boredom, but also to breakup the seriousness of the world he lives in. Rory is so empathetic, but strong. I’m anxious for him and Liam and also what will happen with the council. The world building in the first book was amazing and it is just as amazing in The Connelly Curse. There is constant action, quiet reflection, and a bit of romance. The imagery and descriptions were so detailed I could picture everything with ease. Velez explains the myths beautifully and weaves the past tales into present dilemmas so effortlessly it’s easy to become engrossed. A must read! I received an advanced copy of this book, and this is my honest review.
Another Fabulous Read. I Adore These Characters
(Read using Kindle Unlimited)
This book gave us a much better insight to the brothers. Jack & Scarlett must go off to complete a quest to aid them in freeing her Father from Demon possession & whilst they’re gone we get to hear from each of the brothers!!
Rory is, in effect, going through ‘Witch Puberty’. It’s when a witches powers fully start to manifest & it can cause power surges brought on by mood swings etc It’s a great thing he’s the chilled Connelly huh? Lucas just wants to everyone to relax & to enjoy their lives. He loves to cause mischief & watch the fallout. He really seems to lack direction quite honestly He can be focused when he chooses to though!! Connor has some rage going on. He can’t forgive himself for past mistakes, even those that aren’t really his! He carries a heavy burden, it’s of his own choosing but it weighs him down.
Deep & disturbing truths are discovered on Jack & Scarlett’s quest. It terrifies her to the point of almost her complete avoidance of Jack for a time! Wonderful connections are made too, on differing levels Kai, the Demon, seems to try & help again?? A new ally is forged
Much occurs throughout this book, as you’d anticipate after book #1. I’d have personally preferred it if they’d all been kept together for most of the book rather than apart but it was still a fully enjoyable read!! I love the Irish & druidic lore in these books!! The characters will continue to bring me back time & again!!
What a creepy & incredible ending!!
