I have to be honest here, I keep expecting to be disappointed in these books the longer the series goes on. You know, like when an author tries to drag a series out past it’s natural conclusion and it gets kind of lame? I’m so happy to report that that is not the case in this series. Here we are at book 5 and I’m just as intrigued and gripped by the story as I was in book 1.
There are more monsters to chase down and fight and more adventures to be had, and new people which was probably the most exciting part for me. I love learning about the Peculiars and what they can do. There’s a bit of romance in this one as well, it’s not necessary to the plot, but I enjoyed it anyway.
I did listen to this book on audio using my Libby app, so I missed out on the pictures and will someday want to check out the book so I can see them. But if you’re a fan of the first books in the series, I do recommend continuing because it did not get boring or trite.
Not as good as the previous 3
I enjoyed reading this book. The only complaint I have is that it seemed to end in the middle of another part in the story. I guess that’s okay if you are trying to sell the next book but it was chopped off, to me.
This entire series is Amazing! It keeps your mind in constant imagination! The twists and turns of the ventures the peculiar kids encounter will keep you reading for hours!
Love this series
Loved this book! I’m usually an avid romance reader but all of these books transported me to another place and another time in another kind of world. Love, love, love this series!
I think I’ve said it before, but Ransom Riggs really knows how to tell a story. Once again he has done a marvelous job incorporating pictures into his story. These eerie pictures help the reader get a better sense of the craziness Jacob and his friends encounter. There are so many characters throughout this book and every one of them is unique and interesting.
Jacob didn’t learn much from his last adventure. He’s still spontaneous and jumps at anything that he thinks will help him learn more about what his grandfather did. This time, as usual, it gets him into trouble. The crew is now in America where there are Peculiar gangs that are at war with each other. It’s a very different environment from the one Jacob and the others are used to. The descriptions of the gangs draw a pretty clear picture of where they come from in the United States.
This book has some happy moments, sad moments and revelations that will surprise you. The ending is a bit shocking and it has me sad that I have to wait until next year for the next book. I have so many questions, but I know that the author will cover them all in the next one (and probably create more).
I love this series, but this was not my favorite. The ending disappointed me.
