Live Wire (Maggie #1): Washed-up alt-country-rocker-turned-junker Maggie Killian is pulled to Wyoming by an irresistible force . . . former bull rider Hank Sibley, the man who broke her heart fifteen years before. When she unexpectedly meets his Sunday school-teaching girlfriend at a saloon, Maggie seeks liquor-fueled oblivion between the sheets of a younger man’s bed. But after her beloved vintage truck breaks down and leaves her stranded in the Cowboy State, she learns her hook-up died minutes after leaving their rendezvous. Suddenly surrounded by men with questionable motives, Maggie searches for the murderer while fighting the electricity between herself and her old beau and her new penchant for local whiskey.
Sick Puppy (Maggie #2): Maggie tucks tail back to Texas with Louise, the mutt Hank foisted on her in Wyoming. Maggie runs straight to Gary Fuller—her long time best friend-with-benefits and the biggest Texas country music star since George Strait—but arrives too late to save him from dying in a fire. She just wants to lick her wounds in her own bed with nothing save a bottle for comfort, but Maggie’s short term renter refuses to budge from her home. Soon her small town sanctuary is overrun with Nashville bigwigs, Gary’s trailer park family, and grief-crazed fans feeding the fires of media speculation about the bodies in her wake.
Dead Pile (Maggie #3): After Maggie Killian’s junker business goes into the shitter in Texas, she packs up her vintage truck and rescue mutt for Wyoming and a sexy reunion with her ex. When she discovers Hank’s foreman unceremoniously dumped on the ranch’s dead pile—the repository for deceased livestock—deputies look no further than the ranch for suspects, especially the young Amish hand, Andy, Maggie’ guitar protégé.

This 3-book set is a winner! Trouble finds Maggie at every turn, but she hangs-on.
The characters are well-written, the situations unpredictable, and the setting is almost visible it’s described so well. What a great story line. Strongly recommended.
This is amazing that all three Maggie books are available in one place and you don’t have to wait for the next one. That is the ONLY complaint I had about reading them as they were written! I had to wait for the next one! Maggie is a TROUBLE magnet with a capital T! Lots of mystery, twists and turns and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and of course, murder await you in this wonderful compilation…the characters are entertaining and continue in each book, Louise the dog is AMAZING! her loyalty knows no bounds; Maggie and Hank are just meant for each other…enough here, just pick this up and see for yourself what an enjoyable read this three-book set is.
The perfect opportunity!
I purchased this set so that I would be able to “binge read” Maggie’s story. She is an indomitable character, who goes through life facing challenge after challenge. “Irresistible” is a word that can be applied to her outlook towards any and all challenges as she takes them all on with no qualms. Hank is the romantic interest, and there are the typical ups and downs along with the “Maggie ones”.
Fun and anxious moments combined.
I started out not liking Maggie at all. By the end of the series, I really like her. She’s a former star who hit bottom, cleaned up her life and started a new one. But some aspects of her new life have not left her. She’s still enthralled with a former rodeo rider. Except he lives in Wyoming and she lives in Texas. They don’t want the same things, but they definitely have the hots for each other. And death seems to follow Maggie around. The series takes you on their journey. I recommend each and every one of these books.
I got through 1-1/2 half books of this series and just could not take it anymore. The protagonist is such a waste case. I got so tired of hearing about her liquor and need for it just to function day to day. I simply could not waste any more precious time trying to like something about this series.
Read the prequels first to set a heck of a stage to come with this series! Please see below for my previously published reviews of these novels…Maggie encounters one complicated knot of murder after another, but she ends up pulling the thread regardless of her own peril!
Live Wire (Maggie Series #1, What Doesn’t Kill You #13)
Maggie’s a sassy gal, in her 30’s, still with potential and a strength that she seems to be unaware of…yet vulnerable in a gritty way that’s all hers. She was a star country singer, songwriter, and musician, but descended into the darkness of multiple addictions. Yet she crawled through to the other side of recovery, for the most part. Maggie continues to be haunted by a variety of ugly past events and now she’s hit by curve balls today with a complicated murder and an old lover. An involving read with just the right spice to it!
Sick Puppy (Maggie Series #2, What Doesn’t Kill You #14)
5-alarm fire, literally! Technically, this is a standalone novel, but I recommend reading the Maggie prequels and the first book in the series so you can better understand the characters and backstories. I absolutely adore our complex Maggie with all of her ragged edges and reluctant softness (that surprises even her!). She returns to Texas to nurse her emotional wounds with her mostly faithful, stubborn, and boundary-free dog, Louise. Unfortunately, Maggie’s luck continues to be fickle…balanced between “almost” sunshiney and downright dreadful. Murder is her shadow, which has a nasty way of rippling out to those around her. And we aren’t even going to go there with her upside down love life! You’re in for a wild ride in Maggie’s vintage magenta Ford pickup, complete with a small truck bed that can’t hold all her “junk”!
Dead Pile (Maggie Series #3, What Doesn’t Kill You #15)
Watch it…a “can’t put down” read! Our flawed girl-woman Maggie is on yet another journey back to Wyoming with her tail between her legs after a disatrous Texas welcome that barely resolved itself. Her business there is in shambles, yet there is some light at the end of the tunnel as her long abandoned muse in song may end up to be a saving grace in an unexpected way. Unfortunately, death and mayhem are still stalking with a ripple effect for those around her. She’s got a quirky relationship with her somewhat faithful companion dog, Louise, who sings to her own tune so to speak. Maggie is also focused on a gentle horse she has bonded with, a very pregnant Lily, who becomes embroiled in this new turmoil in more ways than one. Maggie’s perplexing and sporadic love relationship with Hank over the years is not playing out well today as there are deeper historical waters with his mother and sister, much less himself. Caveat…read the prequels and the other two books in the series before diving into this one! Miss Maggie is not always likeable, but she’s a lovable brat!
I just couldn’t get into the self-centered, selfish heroine. I don’t care for books about addicts, and this one certainly fit that bill. I got as far as half of the first of the three books, and finally had to quit as I couldn’t figure out where the plot was supposed to go. I was disappointed as this was listed as appropriate for fans of Janet Evanovich, which was certainly misleading. it was not like Evanovich at all! No humor, awkward prose, and a truly uninteresting central figure. Even though it was cheap, it wasn’t worth the internet connection.
I rarely give up on a book. This was a set of 3, and they were free on Kindle. I gave up by the second book because I kept trying to give it a chance. This author created protagonist Maggie who was self-destructive, and incapable of rational thought whether she was drunk or sober. She was a bit long in the tooth for someone who couldn’t learn from her repeated and often juvenile mistakes. Friends and family were enablers who bailed her out of trouble over and over again. I just got sick of it.
I couldn’t stop reading. Loved the entire series all the characters stories.
Live Wire (Maggie #1)
Maggie is a complicated hot mess on a mission to get back to the love of her life. The unexpected reception leaves her making all the wrong decisions. The mystery, murder and mayhem that ensure will leave you laughing, scared and jumping to all the wrong conclusions. There are lots of colorful characters Wyoming and not all of them are what they seem!
I ripped through this book like you wouldn’t believe! It was everything I needed in a read!!! Action, adventure, hilarious character interactions, suspense, lust, love, electric heat and anything and everything you can imagine all wrapped up in one heck of a story!
Sick Puppy (Maggie #2)
When Maggie finds out the love of her life is going to be a father and just proposed to his younger girlfriend she hits the road fast. The latest road trip takes her to a honkytonk in Amarillo where she meets some great new friends, sings songs by her nemesis and realizes she will never be over Hank but she can still have fun with Gary. When she gets back to her home town she heads off to meet him only to find his house up in flames. The mystery that unfolds after that will keep you guessing until the very end!
Dead Pile (Maggie #3)
Just when you think Maggie & Hank will finally get to be together all hell breaks loose! Not only does Paco get killed and Andy is the main suspect but Sheila keeps trying to cause problems. If that weren’t enough Louise keeps killing baby critters and Hank admits to having a brain injury! What more could be wrong?!
Don’t miss out on the exciting conclusion of Maggie & Hanks story!!!
