During the war, Heidd was her brother’s commanding officer. He was Nyssa’s idol, her biggest crush…
Until he betrayed everyone.
Commander Jancel Heidd sacrificed his honor to protect Nyssa.
It’s killing him to see her so miserable, so disgusted with him.
But she’s safe.

He’ll shield his spunky captive from the depraved police chief, the ruthless governor, and the deadly cyborgs.
The only monster he can’t save her from is himself.
THE COMMANDER’S CAPTIVE is the second novel in a series of connected sci fi romances. This volume contains Nyssa and Jancel’s complete story, and concludes Etana and Areg’s (THE TRAITOR’S BRIDE).
Each book in the Keepers of Xereill series features a different couple. But it also builds on past events and characters, whose stories continue in the background.
You’ll enjoy the series more if you start with the prequel novella (The Cyborg’s Lady) or Book 1 (The Traitor’s Bride).

An Army Commander who put his duty to his troops as his highest priority, but has given his word to protect a Lady. A Lady who has been held captive by a corrupt governor. A corrupt governor who is willing to do anything to maintain his power forever. A perverted and ruthless police chief who seeks to take the Commander’s position and to pillage the Lady. Sparks fly between the commander and the Lady. There are more conspiracies afoot than they know. This is another excellent story within the same universe as The Cyborg’s Lady and The Traitor’s Bride. I enjoyed the story very much and recommend it.
This is a fantastic series. This is a fast paced read that had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. There are twists and turns, this is a real page turner. The Author really brings out each character and there surroundings. I highly recommend this read.

I don’t even know what to say. The political thriller aspect of this series is even more compelling than the romance between the lead characters. And since that’s hotter than the surface of a star, that’s saying something. I love that this book gives us the answers to what happened to Etana and Areg after the ending of the previous book, because it was driving me batty not knowing. I thought that some of the chemistry between Nyssa and Jancel felt a little rushed. However, as Jancel was the first one of her captors to be kind to Nyssa, I think there’s a bit of Stockholm Syndrome hurrying the emotions along. This has a ‘softer’ cliff-hanger ending but there’s still a lot of unanswered questions out there and I can’t wait to learn more.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
In this one since having read the first one I had to follow Nyssa and Jancel’s story. It takes me a minute to read these because I don;t want to miss one single tidbit. Having squeezed it into my larger than life tbr I leaped into this world to roll into theirs.
Being a hostage will have you thinking lots of things with her being no exception. You get wrapped into this with her but some things could be deceiving. He will do what he must regardless which gets our understanding. The drama that pours into this one will slowly pull you to the edge with sighs in between. The chemistry will fuel you along to keep following them. Unexpected will be part of this story which makes this one well rounded read for a great escape.
I totally didn’t read the first book in the series and after finishing this one…I MUST READ IT! Having said that this book is an excellent stand alone novel. I really enjoyed how this book “finished” up the first book and yet lovingly told the next couples story. I also enjoyed how truth serum helped in an unexpected way. I am looking forward to reading more from this author!

This is book two in the series “Keepers of Xereill” with the conclusion of Lord Areg & Etanna story which started in “The Traitor’s Bride”. This book is about Nyssa (the sister of Lord Areg) & Jancel (The commander who is holding her captive)
This is an excellent, captivating Sci-Fi romance and I found it a pleasure to read.
There is: twists & turns, suspense, intrigue, mystery, some humor, action, danger, enemies, corruption, deceit, betrayal, devious plans, politics, military conflict, cyborgs, emotional trauma, memories, distrust, dilemmas, attractions, love and steamy scenes.
The characters are well-developed with individual personalities and react with realistic emotional feelings to the situations they find themselves in. The story-line and plot is well-thought out and written, it definitely keeps the reader’s attention
While you could read this on its own, some parts may seem confusing if you haven’t read Book 1 which, frankly, left you with a cliffhanger.
Following a nuclear disaster on their planet, the surviving population had agreed to eschew all but Level One technology –not even cellphones! Thus the majority of the population lives a rather medieval life and the political power struggles are crude, heavy handed and brutal as is life for the havenots; and it’s not really so sweet for the haves. (Think eastern Europe just post WWII, with Stalin threatening from outside as powerplays go on internally.) Meanwhile this planet is one of many in the League of Realms (will it prove to be as underpowered/-funded as the League of Nations or more closely resemble the United Nations?).
All this sounds rather oppressive and though the politics are, the story is not. The drama moves along swiftly and believably with glimpses of the sly humor and romances of equals in temperament, if not in station, for which the author is known. The surprise is the complex and multi-textured universe created. This book does NOT end abruptly although I am looking forward to the next adventure.
The first book ended on a MAJOR cliffhanger which is continued within this story PHEW! The story moves along and was exciting to read. This is a great series and I can’t wait for the next book to come out!

The story continues in the second book of the Keepers of Xereill series. The main focus is on Nyssa and Jancel but we get the conclusion for Areg and Etana’s story. This has a great story line that just gets better and better as we dive into the series. There were some great twists that I was not expecting to happen.
Nyssa is held captive by Jancel and holds everything against him. At one time Jancel was her brother, Areg’s, trusted friend. Or so she thought. Now she believes him to be just a coward who won’t stand up for what is right. Little does she know Jancel is doing what is right by staying in the loop of the things that are happening. It keeps him torn in two. Put up with the scum controlling their world or put them down. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
This was the first book I read by this author. I realize it’s the second in a series, and reading the first book would explain a lot of the background, but I was able to follow the plot nonetheless. I’m not sure this qualifies as a romance as much as a sci-fi political thriller. Yes, there is a romance thread, but there isn’t much depth or time between the H and h. The author has a wonderful writing style and definitely has very complex world-building skills. I thought the position the H was in was rather interesting and I sympathized for him. He was truly admirable in most ways. The h came across as a bit unsympathetic, not because of her circumstance, but because she didn’t seem to want to understand the H better.
One aspect I don’t like about the author’s approach is her telling instead of showing scenes that often have high emotional impact, such as when the H discloses a certain secret to the h. The author glossed over this rather important scene (and a few others) in a simple sentence instead of letting the reader see how the characters reacted/interacted.
There is a lot of detail that may overwhelm readers who want a more straightforward read. This is also not a book for readers who do not like to see bad things happen to the main characters. Life happens… and it’s not always ‘pretty’ or ‘romantic’ in this book. Overall, this book was a very intense, excellent read.
While the main romantic plot of Nyssa & Jancel is the focus of this book I’d highly recommend reading the previous installment to understand the background of the overall series. I did enjoy this book. I liked very much watching how slowly Nyssa and Jancel fall n love. There’s a lot of political intrigue stemming from the first book that was confusing for me as I have not read it. To me this is less romance and more sci-fi to me. It was good not great. If you’re a fan of the author you’ll probably have more love for the story than I did. Honestly there wasn’t enough to make me want to go and find out what I missed. Overall good not great.

Wow I loved Nyssa’s sass. This story brought some of the comedy and sass from Alix’s Romantic comedy writing into the amazing Sci-Fi world she has written. I couldn’t put it down once I started. I enjoyed seeing the motivations behind Jancel’s actions we saw in The Traitor’s Bride. And of course I loved the continuation of Areg and Etana’s story. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series and what this world has to offer. Alix once again knocked it out of the park with The Commander’s Captive!
