Paige Moore had been a practicing divorce lawyer in Portland before doctors recommended she slow down and return to her home town of Otter Rock. Once home she had her parents, Jennifer and Patrick to look after her. She also has met up with an old boyfriend, who is now the sheriff in Otter Rock. Jack Lewis worries about Paige and wants her to be happy as well. Jack buys Paige a beagle puppy who she names Barkley. She agrees to keep him on a trial basis. Realizing that puppies need some discipline and training, she enrolls him in The Comfy Canine Training School led by trainers Jonathan Cook and Alice Campbell.
After just a couple of weeks of training, Jonathan Cook is discovered dead outside the Flying Dutchman Winery by Zane Douglas. Sheriff Lewis has been investigating a string of “dog stealings” in the area. The dogs who have disappeared all appear to be well trained, expensive dogs.
Paige had helped Jack find the killer of a woman in the area shortly after her return to Otter Rock. The idea that Paige is a civilian helping with police business has upset some in the town. Jack warns Paige to stay out of this crime and to let him solve it. Paige is bored so she teams up with River Townsend to see who killed her Uncle.
If all of this isn’t enough, she is dealing with a difficult couple wanting to get a divorce but arguing over everything — Jessica and Daniel Wilson.
This book has many twists and turns with great characters, some of whom are dogs. A must read for those who enjoy cozy mysteries.
I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
Paige is working on building her business as a lawyer in Otter Rock. The sheriff, Paige’s current boyfriend, has surprised Paige with a dog. It seems that dog training is in order for both Paige and her new dog. Paige enjoys their first session. However, one of the trainers is soon found dead.
I enjoyed this second book in the Paige Moore Mystery series.
Paige is trying very hard to forget Portland and the things that happened there. Her boyfriend, and sheriff, Jed gets her a puppy. Going there might help her get her mind off of things, but not when a dog trainer is killed at the very school she is taking her dog too! Now she feels she must solve this case, but Jed it telling her to stay out of it. Hmmm, this causes hurt feelings and some resentment for her. Can she stay out of the case or will she go against Jed’s wishes? You will have to read the book for the answers. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book.
What a great clean mystery read. I loved the characters and of course the puppy. A must read series.
The Comfy Canine Murder Case is a very enjoyable mystery. Almost as soon as Paige begins Barkley’s ( her beagle’s) training, one of the trainers is murdered. Feeling like her life in Otter Rock is less exciting than her life in Portland, and frustrated by being told to stay out of the murder investigation, Paige feels compelled to investigate. In addition to the murder, dogs are disappearing. This is a complicated murder with several suspects and motives. It will keep you guessing until the very end.
I received an advanced copy of this book. This is the second book in the Paige Moore Mystery series. Her boyfriend, Jack, gets her a puppy and she decides the best thing she can do is take him to training school. Unfortunately, with her luck, she discovers a body. Jack, being the town sheriff, gets upset when she feels the need to do some investigating. She gets upset when he shuts her down. The training school where she takes her puppy is involved in the murder, along with parts of their town. This is a great cozy mystery and one not to be missed!
