Introducing Wyoming’s Sheriff Walt Longmire in this riveting first Longmire novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Land of WolvesFans of Ace Atkins, Nevada Barr and Robert B. Parker will love this outstanding first novel, in which New York Times bestselling author Craig Johnson introduces Sheriff Walt Longmire of Wyoming’s Absaroka County. Johnson draws on his deep attachment to the … Johnson draws on his deep attachment to the American West to produce a literary mystery of stunning authenticity, and full of memorable characters. After twenty-five years as sheriff of Absaroka County, Walt Longmire’s hopes of finishing out his tenure in peace are dashed when Cody Pritchard is found dead near the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Two years earlier, Cody has been one of four high school boys given suspended sentences for raping a local Cheyenne girl. Somebody, it would seem, is seeking vengeance, and Longmire might be the only thing standing between the three remaining boys and a Sharps .45-70 rifle.
With lifelong friend Henry Standing Bear, Deputy Victoria Moretti, and a cast of characters both tragic and humorous enough to fill in the vast emptiness of the high plains, Walt Longmire attempts to see that revenge, a dish best served cold, is never served at all.

Great story and location
Love the Longmire series, great characters and story line.
Loved the Longmire series The books are just as good!
Great series.
I am hooked on these “Longmire” books…love the old west flavor that comes with the scenery and cast of characters…books are much better than the Netflix series
Amazing characters. Great use of the English language, vocabulary, turn of a phrase.
Enjoyable
Very entertaining
THE CHARACTERS WERE REAL THE DIALOGUE WAS HUMOROUS AND THE SUSPENSE WASTHRILLING
In line with other books and the in the Longmire series
Sheriff Longmire is a character that comes along once in a blue moon. A real, flawed, admirable individual that grabs your attention & never lets go! And for once, the movie versions have gotten it “right”!
Good read. Highly recommended.
Excellent characters and plot.
Enjoyed the Longmire television series and decided to try the books. Really enjoyed the first book in the series.
Although I enjoyed the TV show, the book is much better!
I’ve been a Walt Longmire fan for a while. Finally found a book the series is based on.
So much better than the TV show!
I enjoyed reading about the unusual character Sheriff Longmire and his very different staff and friends (Henry the BEST). The story is good and does take some twists and turns. Lots of details are included about gun/rifles if you like that stuff (bogged it down for me a bit). It was really fun to see what the original characters are like as compared to the TV series.
Hard to follow. State Troopers are the Elite in WY, not the friggin Deputies. Hard to take that angle.
Kept my attention. Good story. Maybe got bogged down at times with unrelated dialogue with perifial characters
