Introducing Wyoming’s Sheriff Walt Longmire in this riveting first Longmire novel from the New York Times bestselling author of Land of WolvesFans of Ace Atkins, Nevada Barr and Robert B. Parker will love this outstanding first novel, in which New York Times bestselling author Craig Johnson introduces Sheriff Walt Longmire of Wyoming’s Absaroka County. Johnson draws on his deep attachment to the … Johnson draws on his deep attachment to the American West to produce a literary mystery of stunning authenticity, and full of memorable characters. After twenty-five years as sheriff of Absaroka County, Walt Longmire’s hopes of finishing out his tenure in peace are dashed when Cody Pritchard is found dead near the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Two years earlier, Cody has been one of four high school boys given suspended sentences for raping a local Cheyenne girl. Somebody, it would seem, is seeking vengeance, and Longmire might be the only thing standing between the three remaining boys and a Sharps .45-70 rifle.
With lifelong friend Henry Standing Bear, Deputy Victoria Moretti, and a cast of characters both tragic and humorous enough to fill in the vast emptiness of the high plains, Walt Longmire attempts to see that revenge, a dish best served cold, is never served at all.

another of the very well written longmire series.
I have read all of the Longmire books (except the newest one) and loved every one of them. Can’t wait to read the newest one.
Love the characters! Longtime fan of the show, happy to find the books.
I always enjoy the Longmire stories.
Wonderful dialog between sharply etched characters.
It was especially fun to compare to the TV show.
Some very nice plot twists. Modern Lone Ranger and Tonto where Tonto is highly intelligent and witty. Would like to read more but hoping the price will come down. Liked it enough I would buy all the series if I could afford it!
Any Walt Longmire story is worth reading
One of the best books I’ve read and that’s a lot
Good characters, paced well.
My favorite writer is John Sandford, and this book matches the standards set by Sandford. Great writing, great character, filled with humor and suspense.
Great character development and plot development.
I’m not sure I can do justice to one of Craig Johnson’s top-notch Longmire books, but all I can say is that I can’t imagine anyone not liking them. All of the early books are nothing short of inspired. With a healthy mix of modern western hero, mystery, Native American mysticism and enough humanity to make it believable, Walt Longmire walks off the pages and into your imagination along with his friends Henry Standing Bear and Vic Moretti, a foul-mouthed, but beautiful deputy from Philadelphia. Just for fun, there’s an original Sharp’s Rifle thrown into the story. What more could you ask for?
A fan of the author and loved the TV series. This book follows the mold an then some
Nice storyline with a dadh of mystery.
Well written, interesting, great characters
Loved all of his books and Was terribly disappointed when Longmire was cancelled I own every one of the collection and look forward to reading many more.
First in the series, a good read.
This book is one of my absolute favorites. I wish these characters, especially Walt and Henry, lived in my town.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book as the writing of Craig Johnson is absolutely REFRESHING. None of the old tried and true, predictable lines. No, SIr. This author has his OWN words to share and they are unpredictable and REFRESHING. I REALLY like his word choices and LOVE his characters. They, too are NEW and HONEST and REFRESHING ! From the down home Ah, Shucks of Longmire to the honest, open, quick to retort and foul mouthed Vic the characters LEAP off the page if you are able to keep the same page long enough for them to do that. Then there is The Cheyenne Nation better known as Henry Standing Bear. His character is so totally unknown in modern fiction and SO welcome in this story that is exceptionally well told. He is also the source of so much of the comraderie and humor between Longmire and Henry. And Lucian is an absolute delight in the story as he gives it buoyancy and laugh out loud lines. This story which begins the Walt Longmire mystery series is an absolute delight and a grand beginning to an incredible series.
