5 plus, plus stars!
Drs. Barton (Bart) and Rose Fitzgerald adopted two damaged children from a place called Windham Hall. They then proceeded to abuse and torture them. The children were Megan and Michael (Kepler). Megan is now a college student in psychology while Michael is a long haul truck driver.
While grocery shopping, Michael gets a phone call from his downstairs neighbor saying water is running into her apartment from his. He rushes home to find water running everywhere. In his tub is a dead woman. He calls the police after calling his sister Megan.
So his nightmare begins.
Detective Garrett Hobbs immediately assumes that the woman was killed by Michael. His alibi is weak. He and his partner proceed with the investigation when he gets a visit from FBI Agent Jessica Gimble who reports that several murders have been committed across the country. They seem to follow Michael’s truck route. They begin to track Michael together. There are several nail biting moments and scenes while the pair and their colleagues chase Michael as he goes east.
Megan meets up with Michael in Arizona and they continue east. Hobbs and Gimble, among others, are hot on their tails. Following high drama at a large truck stop, Hobbs and Gimble split up. Hobbs to go to Dr. Rose’s home to look for where he thinks Megan will be located while Gimble stay on Michael.
The journey continues.
This book has explosive action, high tension and thrilling scenes. I was entranced into reading far into the night. It is a number one psychological thriller. It is extremely well written and plotted. The reader gets to know Michael and Megan very well. These insights to their personalities do not detract from the content or excitement of the novel at all. I was fascinated and really liked the book. It had got to be one of my all time favorites. Just the right mix of psychology and police procedural – one of Misters Barker and Patterson’s hallmarks. I recommend this book to all fans of both authors and anyone who likes a high tension thrill ride.
I want to thank NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for forwarding to me a copy of this absolutely great thrill ride for me to read, enjoy and review.
This book has more twists and turns than the windiest mountain road. From the first page to the last you just can’t put this book down. But then I didn’t expect anything less from a James Patterson book and he certainly didn’t disappoint. You really need to read this book! Thank you James for writing us another great book!
OMG!!! That was one wacked out crazy story!!! I got so engrossed from the get-go, I finished it in one weekend. This is the first book I’ve ever read of JD Barker but being a Patterson co-author, I decided to give it a read. I’m one of those readers who happens to like Patterson co-authored books; this was my 27th. That and hubby said it was a good book and that I would probably like it and he was right. I will definitely be checking out Barkers other work.
Sometimes I like stories that layout a killer from the get-go because then I don’t have to spend the rest of the book trying to figure out “whodunit” and the author can spend the rest of the book developing the story and characters, which is what Barker does in this book – or so he leads the reader to believe!!! What ensues is one wild and crazy story spanning the country from coast-to-coast ending with a crazy (and believable) twist in the end. And that epilogue? CREEPY!!!
Too predictable
The Coast-to-Coast Murders by James Patterson is an intense thriller with not-stop action that keeps you guessing who the villain is until the end. A series of murders occur from California to New York City. Entwined in the murders seem to be two adopted siblings, Megan and Michael Fitzgerald who were adopted by Dr. Bart and Dr. Rose, a psychiatrist and clinical psychologist. This couple sees and takes in children with extensive trauma backgrounds. The question is do their treatments heal or do they do something else? Now grown-up, Michael and Megan are embroiled is a series of gruesome murders and are on the run. Fast on their tail are Detective Dobbs and FBI Agent Gimble who work together to uncover and apprehend the murderer. This fast paced story keeps you involved until the very end. I highly recommend this novel. This fast paced story keeps you involved until the very end. I highly recommend this novel.
I listened to the audio book…14 hours is way too long for this story. I found the first 7 hours kind of boring. The second seven hours was a little better, but so many twists and turns came up, it kind of made it hard to decipher what was going on. The underlying plot wasn’t bad, I think it could of been told in a better and shorter manner.
It’s hard to describe this book. I kept reading it hoping to finally understand what was happening but the end was not even an end. The reader never understands what is going on with the story. There is a lot of action, unlimited twists, lots of violence, but no real story line. What there is, is way too bizarre for even the least bit of credibility. Confusing throughout after a very intriguing beginning.
Can’t recommend this one, although looking at the reviews, many people did like it.
A good read, twists in the plot but gets a little wordy at times
This book was tragic, twisted & haunting. The subject of matter was too disturbing for me. It did hold my attention, but I absolutely hated the ending!
Seems to have been written by a committee instead of Patterson’s usual duo. To say it was overwritten is a disservice to to the verb. Includes some paranormal icing on the half baked cake
The worst Patterson book I have ever read. About a third of the way through it I guess the majority of the ending. However, the actual ending was convoluted, confusingand unsatisfying.
Confusing and rather absurd
I cannot tell you how heart-stopping this Patterson read was the entire time! This book is one I could not put it down, and it had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I did not see the mystery coming. The Coast to Coast Murders is one of my favorite Patterson reads, and I definitely recommend picking up a copy! James Patterson

As disappointing as this is to write, I have to say I really did not enjoy this book at all. I love James Patterson (Alex Cross series) and I’ve really enjoyed the books I’ve read by JD Barker (4MK series), but this collaboration just didn’t work for me. I’ve actually found that I don’t enjoy most collaborations with authors as I find the writing to be disjointed and not all smooth. This felt the same way.
Thank you #netgalley and #Littlebrownandcompany for the eARC.
