Another marvelous small town romance story like a breath of fresh Montana air, crisp and clear.devney knows how to start the relationship, build the background, introduce characters, and the middle includes all the tiny twists and turns and the Piece De Resistance is how she brings the story to a close. Perfectly tied with a neat bow
Devney’s put together personality seeps into her craft. She writes neatly without any stray threads lying loose, every tiny detail mentioned is purposeful. Could be a small wrinkle in the carpet, or a Gatsby Hexagon ring, every detail is a puzzle piece part of a larger picture.
“You asked me back then if I believed in fate. I didn’t until I met you. And I’ve spent nine years thinking I’d never see your face again. But fate brought you back into my life and I’m not going to mess it up again.”
She portrays a marriage as Love. Honor. Commitment. Trust. Friendship
Nick slater and Emmaline Austin got 1 out of 5, it ain’t bad…but it’s earning the other 4 that is the toughest job on earth. The have a huge gap of time and distance to cover and earn each other’s trust again
Emmy’s life is barren, devoid of love and covered in a veil of lies, hiding Phantoms and stalkers.
Nick’s life is too involved with his own Phantoms and their human counterparts.
Both are running away to find their own piece of heaven and fate brings them to Prescott, Montana.
“What were the chances? Of all the small towns in America, I had moved to the same one where my long-lost husband lived.”
The story flows very smoothly and gradually love turns to hate and then to companionship and then comes full circle. In between are sentiments and emotions that pull at your heartstrings.
The story is quintessentially small in diameter, there’s loyalty of girl gang, there’s animosity of town pranksters, there’s brotherhood and family standing behind their kin, everybody knows everybody and has each other’s backs. Very close knit and warm fuzzy feels flow freely.
I loved the story and now on to book 3…
4.5 stars for Dare To Love Again
Emmeline never expected to fall in love with a guy in just a few hours but that’s exactly what happened when she went on a girl’s only weekend in Las Vegas. She even married him that night but the next morning she woke up alone. She searched for him everywhere but she never found him and she moved on with her life.
Now, nine years later, Emmeline has a nice boyfriend and she’ s about to make one of her childhood dreams come true. You see, Emmeline has always wanted to be a kindergarten teacher but her father was against it but now she will finally be one. But not in NY where her boyfriend lives. No, Emmeline decides to accept a position in a small town in Montana. The last thing that she expected was to see Nick, her ‘husband’ again. A difficult time starts for Emmeline because ‘old’ memories and feelings surface. And when Nick makes it clear that he wants to make a new start with her, she’s torn between her feelings for the two men in her life. One man who was always there for her and one man who left her nine years ago. Emmeline doesn’t know what to do with her feelings. Can she trust Nick this time? Or will he leave her again? Why does love has to hurt so much?
After reading the first book of this series (and liking it), I was looking forward to reading ‘The Clover Chapel’ because I love reading second chance romance stories. But although the story was good written, I must confess that it didn’t give me (personally) the big high that I had hoped for. It had all the ingredients I like in my stories but I just couldn’t get over the part where Nick left Emmy and the reason for it. Because of that it took me a while to get into the story. I also had some problems connecting with Nick. I had the feeling that Emmy gave more than Nick but that’s just my impression. Like I said, the story was good but I personally liked The Coppersmith farmhouse more.
I will definitely read the next book in this series because I very much like this little town that Devney Perry created in Montana. A town filled with good men and women who find friendship and love there.
*Runs in Screammminnnngggg*
OMG I am loving this series!!!!
Jamie Guellar Thank you sooo much for telling me to read this series!!! I am just beside myself…especially after putting two and two together today that there will be a spin off. (not sure if that is what its being called?? But that’s what I am thinking..lol
Gooddness I cant say too much cuz I don’t want to spoil anything, but hot damn I am just a kid in a candy store filled with excitement!!! lol
Devney Perry I wish I could give this book a kagillion stars cuz it certainly deserves it!!!
Thank you for writing and I hate that I am a late reader to your books but I have definitely found them now thanks to Jamie and I am obsessed!!!! xoxo
One day. One day is all it took for me to DEVOUR this beautiful story! I’m going to suffer the year’s biggest book hangover tomorrow, and I’ll love every second of it!
Nick & Emmy are perfect for each other.
One night in Vegas. They met. They married. But then he was gone.
Almost a decade later fate reunites them. Nick is still as dreamy as she remembers. And Emmy is still all he wants.
So much drama brings them to the end of their story. But will they get the HEA they both have longed for?
Actual Rating 2.5
Oh how I wanted to like this book, but I just didnt enjoy it all that much. The relationship was not believable at all. Nick and Emmy get married within like 5 hours of knowing each other and are so in love. Even after the 9 years that they’ve gone without seeing each other they’re still completely in love. I didn’t buy it. Hell Nick’s reason for leaving Emmy was so damn weak I would have kneed his ass in the balls. There was just too much going on as well and I felt the drama always came out of left field just to make the story interesting.
Here’s my thing with this book, I didn’t feel anything for this relationship at all and I never warmed up to them. Its love at first sight with Nick and Emmy clearly, and them getting married in Vegas only for Emmy to wake up to find Nick gone was messed up. On top of that Nick never once looked for Emmy, but has the nerve to want her as his wife the second he sees her again gave me whiplash. The nerve of him. But whatever, the whole book is about them still being in love and giving their marriage another chance.
Soo Nick and Emmy spend lots of time together going on dates and discovering each other. Not that they really knew each other to being with. But to feed this lacking relationship there is a such of random drama that happens. Someone keeps breaking into Emmy’s house, Nick’s father gets them involved in some MC drama, Emmy has a asshole of a father who she lets walk all over her and never has one redeeming moment, and Emmy is a dumbass who makes terrible decisions regarding her safety.
But with all that being said Devney Perry is an excellent writer. Her words flow so easily that its not hard to get lost in her books. There may be moments where this book wasn’t so bad. Ones that I liked. So there are minor qualities that appeased me.
I hate to give this book two stars. I tried so hard to like it. It is an ok book when you get down to it, it just was not for me at all. There was a lot of eye rolling and I wasn’t to bang my head against the wall endlessly.
I think Devney Perry has become an automatic one-click for me! After reading her debut, The Coppersmith Farmhouse, I anxiously was looking forward to The Clover Chapel, the second book in the Jamison Valley series. And it blew me away!
From the beginning when Nick and Emmeline met in Vegas and through their fateful reunion in Montana nine years later, it was undeniable that these two were meant to be. Their attraction was memorable, and they complemented each other perfectly! I also loved many of the side plots- especially Mason’s- and catching up with characters from The Coppersmith Farmhouse, as well.
Denvey Perry has a way with words; her writing is fluid, the plot well-developed and well-paced, and she makes you care about her characters. I look forward to more books by her!
I liked the story line. It kept me reading. Did not enjoy all the foul language. You don’t. Need to use the f word to get your point across
Loved this book. It went in completely different directions than I thought it would. The characters in this book were heart warming and the author did an exceptional job of telling their story.
I tried really hard to like this book enough to stick with it. I couldn’t get beyond chapter 11 (which wasn’t even 1/3 of the way) – I just couldn’t bring myself to read one more word. I like the F bomb as much as anyone, but it was way over used by the H, especially when talking to the h, who just made me want to smack her. I went ahead and skipped to the end just to see if it would be worth reading the whole thing – NOPE!
I enjoyed the book, but frankly was overwhelmed by the nasty language throughout the book. It would not have hurt this book not to have the “f” word everywhere. Also the graphic sec was not necessary. Leave a little for the imagination.
This book used the “f word “ excessively. That definitely took away from the story being told. I would definitely not recommend this book.
If you love second chance romances, you need to read this book! Its a little unconventional and unusual circumstances just make this story one to remember!
“Swaying sideways on wobbling knees, I clung to Nick’s shirt to keep from falling. I wanted a kiss like that every day for the rest of my life.”
Heading off the high of The Coppersmith Farmhouse, I couldn’t wait to begin The Clover Chapel. But when I began, I wasn’t sure I was reading the correct book. The first scene depicts a bit of the past, and it was NOT what I was expecting when I flipped to the first page. Upon continuing, I knew this story was going to be exactly what I needed.
The beginning of this story, Emmy is beginning her career as a kindergarten teacher (yay teachers!). She seems to be absolutely perfect for the job! I’ve hardly met a person in real life that’s more committed and talented in their job. As she gets to know people in the town, she begins to truly find friends and find home. But her ties back to NYC keep her from fully committing herself to this amazing town. Until she encounters Nick…
Finally, Emmy broke away. “Sorry. I have to go,” she mumbled before racing to the door. “What was that? Do you know her?” Jess asked.
Yeah. I knew her.
“She’s my wife,” I said and then sprinted out the door, ignoring the shocked faces and surprised gasps coming from my friends.
Ahh! The tension! I LOVE stories that have hidden pasts and lost loves. The entirety of this book I was absolutely rooting for Nick to win Emmy over. But man, oh, man was I frustrated! It seemed like every time I was gaining some hope, it got dashed. This was a bit of a rough road and I kept getting my heart broken! But, altogether the story was fantastic.
I do have to say that I adore Emmy’s mother. Unconventional, sure, but she is something amazing! The dynamic between Emmy & her mother, and also her mother & Alesso is fantastic. Also, Alesso is one of the sweetest guys!
There’s so much to this story I loved, but so much I don’t want to tell you. There’s a little bit of everything to experience in this one and a love that’s so beautiful. But the next one … I CANNOT WAIT to know what’s going on with Silas!! Trust me when I tell you that you NEED to get into this series.
The Clover Chapel is the second book in Devney Perry’s Jamison Valley series. All of the books can be read as stand-alone titles, but I loved reading them in order. (I’m a series junkie, though.) This was the book I’d been wanting to go back and read ever since I started reading the Tin Gypsy series. Nick, Emmy, and their story are referenced in Gypsy King, and it first caught my attention there. I was intrigued and wanted to know the whole story because it sounded so interesting. (Spoiler alert: I was right, by the way!)
Nick and Emmy’s story is a second-chance, love-at-first-sight romantic suspense. There are many characters and some backstory from the Tin Gypsy series, but you don’t have to have read Gypsy King to understand the plot of this book and vice versa. But honestly, I just love them all, so if you’ve got the time and money to invest, I say you can’t go wrong by doing so! Had I not known this was Perry’s second novel, I would have sworn she’d been writing romantic suspense books for years. Their romance is heartbreaking, frustrating, and heartwarming, to sum it all up. Despite how much he loved her from the minute they met, his actions have always had him putting Emmy first. At least in his mind. His intentions were noble, if not a bit misguided. And the plot twist actually stumped me (a good thing). This one kept me up way too late because I honestly couldn’t put it down. Just when it would seem Nick and Emmy hit a spot of smooth sailing, the tide would turn, and I’d keep reading. It’s a lot more of a fast-paced plot than the first book, too. While I liked Jess and Gigi’s story, I freaking loved Nick and Emmy’s!
NICUnurse’s Rating: !!
Totally fallen head over heels in love with this series and right from the prologue I’m like whooooaaaaa! He did not just do that….
Once I got a few chapters in, my chin hit the floor when I realised this was the ‘Nick’ from The Tin Gypsies. Dash’s brother. Another series I totally feel in love with. It was great for me because I felt like I had a bot more of an insight into the time when the club was still a club and Draven was the Prez and who the who history with the Arrowhead Warriors came about.
Whilst you think you know how this story is going to go and boy gets girl eventually even though there are many obstacles in the way preventing them from doing so; this author is always able to surprise me. There is always at least one plot twist that completely knocks me off my feet. The amount of times this author has made my chin hit the floor!
Great characters, great plot that has you invested from the first page. I love how this series is starting to build a small community. Each of the secondary characters getting to tell their story, each having a part to play and each hiding their own tragic secrets.
Absolutely loved this book!!! This is the second in a row by this author and both were fantastic!!!!
*4 Stars*
I enjoyed this second instalment of this series, even though at times it did feel slightly too long. I liked both Nick and Emmy, and found them easy characters to become invested in. The town of Prescott is a wonderful place, and I loved all their friends and happenings in the town.
I really loved Emmy and the way her character is not the typical rich girl. I adored how she was with Mason and was happy to see how that played out. Nick was quite the stand up character as well, and easy to like.
I enjoyed the ride that these two went on, and I was shocked at some of the revelations at the end of the book. I did also like how there were some things mentioned, which because I am late to reading this series, I know link up to another series by the author. Cannot wait to see where those books go.
I look forward to continuing this series and seeing what else happens in this cute little town.
Emmeline had always done what her father wanted, despite it making her miserable as a socialite. What she wanted to do was become a teacher and move away from New York. After being played by her father one time too many, she does just that and moves to Prescott, Montana getting a job as a kindergarten teacher. What he doesn’t plan to see is Nick, the man who shattered her heart after convincing her to be his wife even if it was for one night.
Nick can’t believe his Emmy is in Prescott, he has always regretted what he did and no woman has held his heart the way that Emmy has. He wants a second chance, he wants his wife in his life however he has a lot of work ahead of him as Emmy is not sure she wants to give him another chance. Can he convince Emmy that what he did was to protect her not hurt her?
There was so much to this story that crosses over with another one of her series, I don’t want to spoil it but I was really surprised. I loved Emmy she is sweet and brave despite having grown up with a father who saw her as an asset rather then a daughter. I loved Nick, he is easy going and you are rooting for him where Emmy is concerned. Terrific book.
This story blew me away. I usually don’t like second chance romance books but the spin on this one sucked me in and I loved it. Nick convincing Emmeline to give him a chance after her unknowingly moving to the town, for her new teaching job, kept me rooting for her to just give him the chance. They went through ups and downs but in the end they both were there for each other and both learned lessons from each other. I absolutely loved this story and how it’ll tie into future books.
Another winner by Devney Perry. Could not put it down.
