Love is one game he may not knock out of the park…As a respected sports agent, Brick Swift’s athletes are the sole recipients of his attention. This means that they also keep every chance for real love at a distance.January Jordan is at the top of her game, recently negotiating the year’s biggest contract for her Memphis Mavericks client. Free as a bird, funny, and financially stable, she’s not … financially stable, she’s not looking for a man to fulfill an already satisfying life.
A chance meeting ignites a flash fire between them that burns to ashes every excuse why they shouldn’t be together. Their love would be a home run; if only they can get past Brick’s real heartbreaks and close the deal of a lifetime.
Authors note: This was previously published as Cards of Love: The World and has no new content.
While this is part of The Swift Series, each can be read as a standalone. Each is about a Swift sibling but for the best reader experience read then in order.
The Curve- Atticus
The Closer- Brick
The Cannon – Bristol

So glad Brick got his story, and what a wonderful one it is! The chemistry between him and January is hot. I wish the Swift family was larger, I want more of them!!
A chance meeting for Brick and January leads to lunch. What starts as an amazing friendship, it quickly turns to so much more. I loved these two characters. For a shorter story, they were well developed. The story was unique. Definitely an author I love to read and she never disappoints!
Where do I start with this book? Leslie seems to make me fall in love with her stories more and more with every book that she puts out.
This story is about Brick and January. You may remember Brick in The Curve. He was Atticus Swift’s brother. But you do not need to read one to read the other. They are both standalones.
Brick and January are both in the same profession as baseball sports agents. They are older and have had their own heartaches and experiences. They share this flirty banter that’s hilarious. They keep trying to convince themselves that this is just a friendship. When the facts are it’s clear to everyone else it’s much much more. This couple couldn’t be more made for each other. If you read any of Leslie’s books this is the one to go to. I loved it. It’s a must read for sure.
I am so excited to be back with the Swift family. Though this is part of a series, each book can be read as a standalone, as each is about a different couple. In The World, we get Brick Swift’s story. Brick is one sexy, smart and charming man. But due to old wounds, he keeps love at a distance.
January Jordan is a woman on a mission and she does not need a man. She has more important things to accomplish. But when a chance meeting happens, the sparks fly, even if they insist they are only friends. But their chemistry cannot be denied.
I loved both Brick and January. They were both smart, honest, and determined. Their story was full of witty banter, great characters and a story I loved. Though this is a novella, it was full story and one I highly recommend.
4.5 stars! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
Happy reading!
Imma newly anointed Leslie Pike fan!! I adored January & Brick and their beautiful connection. It was a quick read therefore pretty fast paced but I didn’t find that to be an issue with the storyline or with the flow of things. It was a sweet and sexy book that I devoured.
This is a sweet and shorter love story. Leslie brings a friendship to love in a wonderful way. I loved January and Brick and their romance.
Brick has a past that is heartbroken but January just might be able to heal him. And January doesn’t take crap from anyone. She works in a male-dominated world and is not looking for a relationship, but enjoyed her friendship with Brick. But when it becomes sexual is she ready for more?
Really great read. Glad we got to read about Brick (Atticus’s brother from The Curve) and the whole Swift family. Devoured this book in a day, I couldn’t put it down.
4.5*
This was a terrific story. I loved how fun and flirty January and Brick were together, and how comfortable they were with each other right off the bat.
Because of the length of this novella the time moves forward fairly quickly, but it’s not a case of “insta-love” really, although there is a definite case of insta-attraction which grows into something real, the more time January and Brick spend together.
I really enjoyed these two- I liked that they were established characters, confident in their careers and in themselves. Because they were more “mature” (both in their 40s), they didn’t play any games (except those of the board variety!)- no back and forth, no silly drama, they were open and honest with each other about what they wanted. And when things between them changed, and they realized they did want more from each other, that openness served them well.
Cards of Love: The World was a feel-good story that left me with a smile, and maybe a tear or two!
***I didn’t realize this book featured a character introduced in Ms. Pike’s book The Curve, which I haven’t read, so I definitely feel this can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.
I am head over heels for Brick & January!
I am a huge fan of Leslie Pike. I have read and loved all of her books. With each new release, I swear it is her best work yet. Cards of Love: The World is no different. Exceptional! Every page of this impeccably articulated story had me swooning. I read it in one sitting!
This is my second read in the Cards of Love series. I absolutely love how the Taro cards are integrated into these stories. It’s a refreshing change and now I want to read them ALL.
I first met Brick in The Curve. Which is the first book of the Swift series about Brick’s brother Atticus. Brick is closed off to the possibility of love after a tragic loss. He’s handsome, successful and content to distract himself with work. Until January Jordan catches his eye. The sparks are mutually tamed at first while these two to kindle a “friendship”. However, it is clear they are a match made in heaven if only either of them can open their hearts & minds to it. The build up is scrumptious. Together they laugh and exchange witty banter laced with innuendo. Physically and emotionally they both light up – it’s fantastic. Heartwarming. Loved every word!
Will these two amazing characters find love and their new beginning? Or will their work and different home bases keep them at arms length? This is a must read!
This was more a novella than a full length book but it was well done. I gave 4 stars because of some inconsistencies in writing, misspellings. Nothing that detracted from the story of Brick Swift finding love after losing his wife and child many years before. There is not a whole lot of conflict in this story. Just straight up meet cute, heat, romance and marriage. The Swifts make it all worthwhile. I love the family interplay.
3.5
This book is the second book that I’ve read by this author and is the second book in this series.
Book #1- The Curve
Book #2- The Closer
Book #3- The Cannon
This book was a really quick read and a friends to lovers romance kind of book. This is Brick and January story and is a sweet read.
Brick is a great guy but has had things very tough after a tragedy happened and he never thought that love would ever be seen in his life again.
They both love there well established careers and they know exactly what they both want. They are both in there 40’s and didn’t even think that love was even on the cards for either of them any more.
January doesn’t take any crap and is a real confident woman, she isn’t looking for a man but when one turns up there is no denying that there is defiantly something there between them both. Brick and January are drawn to each other and they have great chemistry and great banter and there attraction is so strong. The closer they get the closer they become. Will they get there second chance at love?
This author has done it again and has written some awesome characters that you absolutely have to love. The way they are with each other is so beautiful they are so sweet. The Swift family is a family that you just have to love like in book one they are so supportive and great. I did feel like I knew exactly what was going to happen and I did feel like this book was a tad predictable, although it was still a good read.
Thank you to the author and publishers for allowing me to read a copy of this book.
This book is out now.
I loved all of the stories in this series. They are the perfect combo of sexy, sassy, and sporty. Each book can be read as a standalone, however, the same characters are in all three books. It helps to anticipate the future characters and get additional information on the couples you’ve already completed. A swoon-worthy sports romance trilogy that is sure to hit it out of the park!
I loved reading this story. Brick and January are both older and have both had their own heartbreaks. They get together as just friends, but it turns into so much more for both of them. I loved the banter between them and they have amazing chemistry. I really loved this story and definitely recommend it.
I absolutely love the Swift family! The story was both sweet and funny and full of emotion. I loved the connection between Brick and January. Their relationship was fun and flirty and developed naturally from friendship to more. It was also great to see the rest of the Swift family and how much love they all have for each other. This book can be read as a standalone, but you will definitely enjoy it much more if you’ve read The Curve. I can’t wait for Bristol’s story!
Brick Swift has been feeling empty and hurt for years, so when he meets January Jordan a fellow agent, he knows there is something special about her. But will it be enough to bury the past hurts and the emptiness he has been feeling? I loved this story and I loved the romance of the story. Plus we get the continuation of the Swift family saga. I highly recommend this book.
I love the Swift family! I read The Curve, it’s the first book in this series of short novels and loved them! I was happy to get the older brother’s story in this short novel.
Two sports agents become fast friends with a bit more.
Fun banter and plenty of chemistry between these characters.
The secondary characters are so enjoyable!
It’s a fun and sexy quick read!
In this short novella story we have Brick and January. Both are involved in the sports athlete world as to signing and bringing in clients. Brick is 41 and January is 40. Both are older adults. They have both been married; one divorced and one widowed. Not really looking for relationships, but, not closed off to the idea either.
Brick has been alone for awhile. Heartbreak will do that to some. January isn’t really interested in anything more than a friendship with him. They come up with a Harry met Sally friendship pack. But, sometimes friendship is meant to lead into something more. Which it does with Brick and January.
This short novella, comes with a lots of love, laughter, and family.
This was my first read by Leslie Pike and what a sexy little read it was. I loved that the characters were a bit older. January & Brick were mature professionals that both know what they want. Loved it!
4.5 stars
What a wonderful story this was! From the first chapter, I was immediately hooked. Absolutely loved Brick and January. The fact that they were older and established in life was a refreshing change to read about. I just wanted to keep reading about them as they were such a great couple. Hope there is more to come for the Swift family so we can see these two characters again!
This is my favorite book by Leslie so far! Brick’s story and what he has lost is heart breaking, by to see how he has survived and then how he moves on with January is inspiring. Well, the whole story really is. Both characters are in their early 40s and have no kids. They have both been married; one divorced and one widowed. They have the same career as a sports agent but have never crossed paths until this book. They start out as friends, but you can tell it will lead to something more! I don’t know what it is about this book that pulled at my heart strings and even gave me some tears…maybe it’s the fact that it gives me hope I’ll find my someone someday and it’s never too late or maybe it’s something else. I can’t explain it. This story is a must and while it’s only a novella, I hope to see more from these characters in the future! Bravo Leslie!
