Holy. Moly.
The Cleaner was such a fantastic read! i seriously couldn’t get enough of it and I hope to God there’s more after this! Lol.
I think what I love most about this author, is how well she throws the twists and turns into her work. And boy, did this book have them! I just couldn’t put it down until I found out EVERYTHING.
Did I mention how amazing Gunner is? No? Well pick up this book and find out for yourself! I highly recommend it to everyone!!! 5****
“Unlike life, death could be cleaned – erased. Death was easy. Life was where things grew complicated.”
Wow! What a great suspense/mystery/thriller!!! Twists and turns, intrigue and mystery, danger, love, betrayal – it’s all in there!! This is my second read from this author, and both times she has had me glued to my kindle, unable to put it down!
Gunner James is the cleaner. The one who’s called in to clean up any signs of death that remain after the body is gone. When the death of his unseen neighbor hits too close to home, he has no choice but to return to the one place he swore he’d never step foot in again. To the one mess he hasn’t cleaned up. Her. It’s time for closure. But, seeing her again has only reinforced that he still loves her, and now there’s even more at stake. When mysterious and threatening notes all point to someone in his past, a past he thought was long ago buried, he has to protect her. But, who can he trust? Can he put an end to it, before he loses it all? He walked away from her once. Lost her. But he’ll be damned if he’ll do it again.
Reagan Orrick was doing fine on her own. She had long since moved on from the heartbreak she endured when he left. No word. No note. No call. Just gone. He never even let her explain that what he thought he saw was so far from the truth. Now, nearly a decade later, he’s here at her front door and all those feelings came flooding back. He was her forever once upon a time. Can she convince him to stay this time? Will he believe her when she tells him the truth – and about the secret she’s been keeping? Their past is about to collide with their present, threatening any chance they might have, and she’s not sure she’ll survive it. Will any of them?
This was so good! Kiersten has a way of drawing you in to the characters and into the story! You’re never sure what’s going to happen next and you’ll have no choice but to keep reading, even when the clock says 2 AM, like mine did! She’ll lead you in one direction, and you’ll smugly think to yourself that you’ve got it all figured out. Then, BAM! You’re taken in a new direction, and left guessing until the end!!
Loved it!! I would highly recommend it!
I absolutely love romance novels that are woven with mystery and suspense and “The Cleaner” by Kiersten Modglin has the perfect combination. She is a new author to me and I was captivated from the first page with the twist and turns and head shaking surprises.
Gunner was a tough guy in high school who barely graduated, with a different girl on his arm at every party. He never let anyone really get to know him until he met Reagan, and slowly but surely, she found a place in his heart. They shared everything and he enjoyed being able to take care of her when she needed him, and it felt good to have someone who understood who he really was deep inside Life was good, until one crazy night when it wasn’t, and the only thing he could do was to run away, leaving his old life behind.
Reagan could always depend on Gunner to be there when she needed him and she felt that she was the only person who really knew him. He had a soft and caring side hidden behind his hot guy image. They were friends at first, but as they spent more time together and confided in each other, their connection became deeper and she was falling in love. Of course it was too good to be true, and one night Gunner disappeared and she never saw him again. Until one night eight years later when she heard a knock at the door, and when she opened it, he was back.
Why did Gunner return home after all these years and would he be honest with Reagan as to why he left?
How will Reagan react when she sees Gunner and will she ever forgive him for breaking her heart?
I was intrigued by this book just from its unique title, and I couldn’t put it down until I was finished. It was unpredictable as well as passionate and I never knew what was going to happen next. I loved “The Cleaner” and I am looking forward to reading more books by this talented author.
If you start this book, be prepared to be unable to put it down once you get half way through. I found the format of the story a bit unique, told by the 2 main characters, the story of the past is told by one character and the story of the present is told by the other main character. There are plenty of twists and turns and the story climax, while a bit abrupt, makes sense.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It wasn’t exactly what I thought it was going to be after reading the beginning of the book. However I really enjoyed the story and really loved Gunner. Gunner ends up going back home after finding a body in his apartment building and what he finds there was not at all what he was expecting. From there the story between Rae and Gunner pulls you in and really just can’t stop reading. Really amazing book and hope there will be a spin off for one of the characters who I won’t name.
This is a definite must read! I’m a huge fan of romantic suspense and this author never fails to disappoint me. She gives us the wicked thrills, the arousing heat and the little tugs on the heartstrings that make you cry. Gunner and Reagan’s story had all of these elements. There were highs and lows and extremely unexpected twists that kept me completely engrossed and flipping pages. If you’re a lover of romantic suspense, I highly recommend that you don’t just add it to your tbr, but one-click your own copy today!
