Before E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey and Sylvia Day’s Bared to You, there was Anne Rice’s New York Times best seller The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty In the traditional folktale of “Sleeping Beauty,” the spell cast upon the lovely young princess and everyone in her castle can only be broken by the kiss of a Prince. It is an ancient story, one that originally emerged from and still deeply … originally emerged from and still deeply disturbs the mind’s unconscious. In the first book of the trilogy, Anne Rice (author of Beauty’s Kingdom), writing as A.N. Roquelaure, retells the Beauty story and probes the unspoken implications of this lush, suggestive tale by exploring its undeniable connection to sexual desire. Here the Prince awakens Beauty, not with a kiss, but with sexual initiation. His reward for ending the hundred years of enchantment is Beauty’s complete and total enslavement to him . . . as Anne Rice explores the world of erotic yearning and fantasy in a classic that becomes, with her skillful pen, a compelling experience. Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey will indulge in Rice’s deft storytelling and imaginative eroticism, a sure-to-be classic for years to come.
Praise for The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty:
“Articulate, baroque, and fashionably pornographic.” —Playboy
“Something very special . . . at once so light and yet so haunting.” —The Advocate

I like hot sex as much as the next gir, but to compare this to 50 shades is not even close. I found this series absolutely degrading and as hard as tried (because of such great reviews) I could not finish reading it. Porn is all fine and good if you can at least like the characters; unfortunately I was unable to do so.
Best erotica I have read to date. Highly recommend!!
Great!!!! I read all 3 of them many times. Read them many year ago.
Certainly not *Interview with the Vampire * more of a *Shades of Grey *
version of the fairy story.
Unfortunately I couldn’t be bothered to finish the first chapter and can only hope the wicked fairy turns up and turns the Prince into a buck rabbit.
Awful.
Rice ppulled out all of the sexual stops in this steamy trilogy. Though the threads to the riginal story are thin, if you are a fan of non-stop, no holds barred sexual action, this book is for you!
This book was more perverse than erotic. Anne Rice is one of my favorite writers, but I think I better just stick to her vampires.
A fairy tale with kinky overtones. What’s not to love. 🙂
Anne Rice has a beautiful way with words. This is definitely a BDSM novel. It deals with submission, domination, bondage, masochism etc.
If you’re looking for a novel along the lines of “Fifty Shades” you may not want to read this. I say that because “Fifty Shades” eases you into the idea, this book smacks you in the face with it.
This was a fascinating book. I found myself horrified and curious while reading this book. It forces you to look at society. I found myself enthralled with this novel. I couldn’t help but read this book with a psychological approach. It was truly entertaining and fascinating.
Love her erotica as much as her vampire and mummy series – she never disappoints!
