Olivia has already found love. She is a devoted wife, loyal friend and determined career woman. She created the life she always envisioned, until she locks eyes with a handsome stranger across a crowded room. Alleged playboy and Chicago’s most eligible bachelor, David, awakens a passion in Olivia that she buried long ago. He will do anything to prove to her that despite his playboy ways, he is worth leaving behind the stable future her husband Bill can offer. In order to accept a love she never thought possible with a man who could be her soulmate, Olivia will have to let go of deeply rooted fears that could ruin everything. Everything is what David wants to give her, and it is what he demands in return. Even as an alpha male who always gets what he wants, this time David may be fighting for something unattainable. – This is a well-written emotional story. I felt strongly about who I wanted Olivia to be with but sometimes struggled with that. Her mother’s coldness made Olivia doubt herself too much. David is great about getting Olivia to open up. Their attraction is off the charts. Bill is decent but not in touch with Olivia’s feelings. The last book is my favorite.
I loved this series! It was hard to put down and get anything else done. Jessica Hawkins makes the pages come to life and keeps you intrigued. Definitely recommend this series.
This storyline kept me enthralled for the entire 30+ hours. Olivia is a married young associate editor who is struggling with the image of a successful business woman that she has for her life and the suburban family and kids future that her husband, Bill sees. Olivia is stumbling through life trying to reconcile the two different visions when she meets David who really sees her. Should Olivia stay in the comfortable life she has where something is missing, or should she take a chance on disappointing everyone around her to follow her heart?
Audible Review
So I am not a fan of a cheating story or love triangles, but this book I don’t know. David Dylan… Wow… I have no words. If you believe in the whole soul mates thing, then I can definitely say that David and Olivia are soul mates.
I have to say that Olivia and David even though they were opposites they compliment each other so well. Where Olivia has some insecurities, David is like the most confident, alpha, dominant, protective, sexy man you can ever meet. From the first time that David met Olivia he was infatuated with her and drawn to her where he has never felt that way about anyone before. So the fact that she was married was not what he expected.
When I started this trilogy I was not impressed but the more I listened and got immersed in the story I was hooked. I wanted Olivia to be with David and I wanted love to conquer all But its not an easy read/listen. Olivia sometimes had me wanting to scream at her, cause she just couldn’t make up her mind between David and her husband. And it was a bit back and forth, but in the end I think it came together nicely, and there was never any doubt from David, he was in it from the start to the end
I have to say that Andi Arndt always does an amazing job narrating, but this one I’m sure couldn’t have been easy, but well done
This series packs an emotional punch. It encourages the reader to be open minded and to be willing to see that there are two sides to every story and relationship. It’s not always black and white. There is no right or wrong. I appreciate that the author didn’t shy away from the sensitive subject. This isn’t a fairytale. It’s raw and real and will take you through the emotional wringer. It will push you outside your comfort zone while allowing you to see the world from a different perspective.
I just LOVE Andi Arndt at the narrator . I absolutely adored David and Olivia’s romance. All the up and downs they endured. Olivia always the one to have it together, until she finds David! I just truly enjoyed this trilogy and Jessica Hawkins did a fabulous job.
Audiobook Review
This is the second book with cheating that I’ve read, and I’m surprised how much I actually loved this story and the main characters so much. I was a little wary going into it but I’d say a few chapters in and I knew I was going to love Olivia and David Dylan. I mean these two are soulmates and from the second they meet one another you can feel that. Everything about this story and the characters has me smitten and completely blown away. It’s a beautiful, emotional, sensual, heartbreaking, angsty read that will not want to let you stop until you’re done.
I think Olivia and David Dylan are two of my favorite characters. This book really sucked me in and had me on an emotional roller coaster of my life. However, this book is 100% not for everybody. If you are against cheating then this is definitely not a book for you and I do not suggest reading it. Just keep that in mind before picking it up.
Andi Arndt did an amazing job narrating this story. Her voice is soothing and very pleasant to listen to. Great job!!
Overall I really loved this series. This is definitely one of those series that I would definitely re-read. I can’t say enough good things about it.
I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
Story – 3 stars
I loved that we get all three books of the trilogy at once. Olivia and David’s story was emotionally charged. It was filled with pain, angst and heartbreak.
Olivia frustrated me with her indecisiveness, insecurities and overthinking. I wanted to give up on the story multiple times but somehow I got enticed back to it.
Performance – 5 stars
Andi Arndt is an excellent narrator. She has never disappointed in delivering all the emotions of the character.
If you believe in kismet, if you’ve found the one, then you can understand the magnetic pull between Olivia and David. Now, that’s not to say I buy into the complete obsession they seem to have even before David knows her name, but this is fiction, so we’ll go with it. I mean, I wouldn’t be thrilled with any of these characters if it were real life – well, except maybe Brian and Gretchen, but that’s another story – but that’s the beauty of falling into a book.
And here’s where I tell you that I didn’t really like most of these characters in the fictional world either. There were so many times when I really, really disliked one or more of these characters. Of course, there are a couple we’re not supposed to like, but I’m talking about our big three in this love triangle. I went back and forth so many times. One minute I would be sure that Olivia didn’t deserve either Bill or David because both treated her far better than she deserved. Then, one or the other would act like a big ol’ jerk and I’d be sure she needed to be with the other. Then, I’d be sure she should just walk away from both. Oh, wait! Then there were the times when I’d be all about Olivia and David, but I’d feel so sorry for Bill.
The funny thing is Olivia is the one who pushed my buttons the most. Bill and David had their moments, but I could get behind some of their actions. David is arrogant and overbearing, but he put Olivia’s safety above anything else. Bill – well, Bill was an odd one. I didn’t like some things about him, but when things took a turn, I kind of feel like he got a raw deal. He’s kind of painted in a bad light, and he had his moments, but I could understand his anguish and his need to lash out. But Olivia was an exercise in frustration. She’s an absolute mess, and her back and forth drove me to distraction- then after a while, it annoyed the daylights out of me. Her inner monologue of indecision is the biggest drawback of this one, at least for me. I mean, I understand the reasons for some of it, but how much did this guy have to do to show her he meant business?
Needless to say, the angst level is through the roof. So much so that I had to step away a few times, read something fluffy, then come back. The audio for the trilogy is somewhere around 30 hours. That’s a lot of angst.
Now, any of that could easily cause me to lose interest, but I just couldn’t completely walk away from this story. Whether it was the characters or the need to know how it would all play out or that the author is just that good, I was all in, and I had to keep going. So, yes, I did step away, but I came back every single time. And I have to say that David and Olivia were absolutely scorching hot together. Like hot enough to set the curtains on fire, and there was no cooling off for them either. So there is no shortage of passion in their story.
Andi Arndt narrates the trilogy, and she does it superbly just as I expected. I’ve yet to be disappointed in her performance on any audio, and she doesn’t disappoint here either.
All in all, this trilogy had its ups and downs for me. There were things I liked and things I didn’t, but it was still well worth the listen. I did have to set it aside and take a breather now and then, but angst and all, Jessica Hawkins paints characters who get under your skin.
This was my first time listening to Jessica Hawkins book and it was captivating from the start. I wasn’t sure what I was getting myself into, but this book has been on replay in my mind. The passion, the angst, the drama, the love, DAVID!! (Swoon) I don’t listen/read stories that feature cheating, but the way this story is told made me want to listen to more. I am glad all three books are included in this new boxset, so I could listen to Olivia’s and David’s love story in one go. I did fall for David, even though he was the home wrecker, haha. He truly saw Olivia for who she is and did not try to change her or pressure her into following the norm. I did find Olivia a bit annoying and too whiny sometimes, but Andi Ardnt’s narration made the story worth the listen. I love listening to Andi narrate, she is an amazing storyteller. She did a phenomenal job telling this story by herself and bringing all the emotions to life. They felt so real. I wouldn’t say I loved this book, but I did enjoy it. I would give this author another try, especially if Andi is narrating.
Now my first read from this author was the White Monarch trilogy and this..is not that. But what this is consumed me. Love triangles aren’t for everyone, but certain people can and do do them well. Ms. Hawkins is one of those people. If you want tonnes of angst, steamy steam times, and a love triangle you really get hooked on, then you HAVE to meet David and Olivia. I volunteered to listen and review a complimentary copy of this. All opinions are my own.
This forbidden love affair romance comes with
signature angst
a suit wearing Alpha
love triangle
a wicked slow burn
3 books centering 1 couple
Cityscape Affair Series: The Complete Box Set (A Forbidden Love Romance) is a excellently written contemporary romance. The writing is compelling and consistent. This trilogy progresses quickly and doesn’t add unnecessary fluff. The story is realistic and fully blended into mini plots to the main story. This love story is intense with heartbreak, real, raw, and character chemistry is hot off the charts. The storyline comes full circle and ends happily.
Andi Arndt single narration performance was phenomenal. Every character emotion was brought out.
A solid listen
From the time that she was a child Olivia has seen what she doesn’t want in her future and every choice that she has made in life is based on that. She has been married for five years and is content with her life until David comes into her life and has her questioning if it is worth jeopardizing the life she has for the life she could have.
David was enchanted by Olivia from their first meeting, and he is drawn to her in a way that he has never felt before. He wants it all with her so finding out she is married is a complication she wasn’t expecting.
David and Olivia take us on an emotional rollercoaster as Olivia battles her feelings while he battles for her and tries to show her that the reward of being together is a risk worth taking. The narrator does a great job of bringing out every angst filled moment which allows us to experience Olivia’s journey in the same way she does.
This huge boxed set includes three full-length novels: Come Undone, Come Alive, and Come Together. Olivia and David’s forbidden story is captivating. Their push and pull relationship is breathtaking, and sometimes overwhelming. They are opposites attract. Olivia has insecurities, and David is openly confident. They share an instant attraction, and a sizzling chemistry. They are perfect together. David is a most eligible bachelor, dominant, possessive, protective, and handsome. I like his persistence, and determination. His personality is overpoweringly attractive, and irresistible. Olivia is an interesting character, righteous, innocent, and defenseless. Their story is intense, emotional, and beautiful, filled with angst, betrayal, passion, and twists and turns. Andi Arndt did a spectacular job with the narration. Her range of voices is impressive.
Wow, this is an amazing trilogy! Jessica Hawkins brought us through territory that a lot of people are uncomfortable with. Olivia appears to be happily married under David Dylan turns her world upside down. The chemistry between Olivia & David is off the charts! Even after finishing this trilogy, I wanted more of them! I highly suggest you listen to this audiobook, you will not regret it! The Queen, Andi Arndt does a spectacular job at narrating.
This trilogy is something else…
I was sooooo invested in these characters lives, that I couldn’t stop listening!
If you’re used to my reviews, you know that for me, cheating should be present in trigger warnings, because I hate .
BUT, this is a trilogy about an affair… So that’s exactly what I was expecting.
What I didn’t expect, was to fall utterly and completely in love with David, The homewrecker!
Olivia is happily married to Bill (or so she thought) for 5 years. One night at a ballet’s bar, her eyes catched the most handsome and intense man she had ever met, and David just knew… After only one look, that she was the one that he was waiting for his whole life.
Obviously he wasn’t waiting for her in celibacy, but he also didn’t expected that she would have been already taken by another man.
Their love story isn’t an easy one…
Quite the opposite actually.
It’s real! So so so real, and raw, and intense and heartbreaking and sexy, and overwhelming and so fuc*ing REAL!
Because it’s not just an affair… It’s a life already traced with someone else… a life that was suppose to move forward with someone else. And a life that starts to look like a prison… An obligation.
It’s Olivia’s fears and insecurities, her past and her present, her husband and her happiness in opposite sides.
But OMG, how David fights for her!!
He’s my man! Period!
Possessive, intense, cocky, handsome and so in love with Olivia… He worshipped her!
I loved this trilogy and if you’re in to one hell of a ride, I highly recommend it!
Andi Arndt is responsible for the narration on the Audiobook and I love it!
I heart the audiobook for this trilogy, definitely worth it, it’s long I am not going to deny but it’s great books for one credit, so definitely an amazing deal plus it’s narrated by the amazing and very talented Andi Arndt, so it’s guaranteed to be perfectly done. The Cityscape Affair Trilogy has a new epilogue and it is a revised content, so even if you read it before you might want to look into it again. Olivia and avid’s story is one you will be hooked reading, with all the angst, a love triangle, slow-burn, and full of steam. The characters you will simply fall in love with will set you on fire. Jessica Hawkins wrote a masterpiece with this trilogy and now it’s available in this incredible audiobook.
This is a more adult series than her most popular (something in the way). I think the writing is fantastic and the characters are very well written. Loved it.
I enjoyed reading the books very much and appreciated three books in one. The characters were well developed along with the story.
What I didn’t enjoy was after the “soulmates” met, there were pages after pages of why her marriage wasn’t working and she couldn’t do this to her husband. The same story could have been told with about 1,000 less pages.
However, I would read this author again.
Damn did I fall in love with this book series!!
I actually started reading this book on a whip. I saw a hot quote on Facebook and as I’ve had the series on my tbr for so long now I thought why not read it now. And damn, I did not get disappointed. I didn’t know what I would get into when starting the Cityscape Affair Series and damn did I fall hard! Olivia and David were just everything! I loved their story.
This series is definitely something else! I never expected to love it so much and go through so many emotions – give me all the FEELS!!! It’s something fresh and unique and definitely one of the most emotional and hottest books I’ve read this year, if not ever! It’s something you just have to experience for yourself.
