I enjoyed looking at the Bible books come alive with cultural background information. It inspired me to read the original text from scripture. Very well written and worth the read.
Loved this 5 book collection in one by Lynn Austin. I am hoping she wrote more along this line – off to do a search 🙂 Thank you Lynn for bringing better understanding of what life was like back then and for making these kings come alive with all their challenges and twists in decisions and consequences. Lost a lot of sleep as couldn’t put the book down!
This set of books is written from Bible History of Kings. A good read with good moral teachings,
Author did a good job of portraying not only the characters, but the time period. Books actually gave me a better understanding of the time period when I read these stories out of the Bible. I recommend any book this author writes.
Wonderful, beautifully written, keeps the historical characters as true to times and events as can be proven.
Unable to put them down. Brings biblical history to life in personally meaningful way.
Biblical fiction at it’s best!
Lynn Austin is one of my favorite authors. However this series is and incredible read. Through her skill as a writer she brings life to a series of OLD Testament Stories of a series of Kings of Israel. I was impressed with her research and details. If you have read the Old Testament you will find many of these stories, of good kings and bad kings familiar, but she brings them to life. Through the characters she suggests more complexity to the temptations and decisions. She also reminds us that from the beginning God’s plan is always redemption and reminds us that it is easy to be seduced by idols in our live.
Austin prose is elegant, but at times gritty. One can not describe the extreme depravity of pagan culture with out some very violent images. It is never gratuitous, but she doesn’t gloss over torture, rape, and evil spirits. This is an adult book and I would hesitate about letting young teens read it.
In any case, I found the book inspiring and challenging and very hard to put down.
I absolutely loved this entire series. Lynn Austin is now one of my favorite authors. The books inspired me to do more Bible reading, especially Old Testament.
Beautifully written
These were very interesting and true to the Bible. I really enjoyed them. they helped me understand aspects of this part of the Bible that I never thought about. I checked her facts from the Bible as I read. Her research of the historical was great. Loved these books
Really enjoyed these books. Had a hard time putting them down. Such a great way to make learning about historical characters and making them realistic. Strongly recommend these books!
I loved this series of books. They are well written and very informative. It helped me to understand a lot of the Old Testament and enjoy it as well. Very highly recommended.
It brought the Old Testament kings to life and helped to understand more of what the Bible is telling you about the times then.
Another well researched, accurate, very well written, engaging series!! Loved every book in this series. I recommend it highly.
This series is well documented. It is entertaining. The reader will learn much about history of the Old Testament and about God.
Loved these five books, and Lynn’s blend of truth in scripture and inspirational fiction was wonderful. Sorry to finish these books; I love her writing.
Taken from the Bible, Ms. Austin makes the Biblical characters come alive and gives insight to their feelings and reasonings. I would love to read more of her work.
This is a powerful 5-book series that takes us through the life of Judah’s king Hezekiah and his son Manassah. In a century dominated by the constant threat of the brutal Assyrian Empire, the author builds from the Biblical and archaeological framework to bring us a dynamic, gripping, and very plausible dramatic panorama.
I read all of this collection and as soon as I finished one I had to get started on the next one. The author follows very closely to the Kings in the Bible.
This is a wonderful read and I highly recommend this collection.
