This was a sweet holiday story was a great introduction to Sunshine Valley, Colorado. And the dogs were adorable!!!
Fun novella with a take on Scrooge. Everett Bollinger is the town manager. He has been tasked to bring down the debt so they wouldn’t loose federal funding. Rosalie Reyes is the owner of a new pet shop, has the most adorable dog and a widow. It seems that the Matchmakers Club has set their sights on getting them together. It seems their dogs have the same idea. Love the HEA!
A cute, quick Christmas read. Everett, the new town manager, is putting a damper on everything the townspeople want to do. They call him Scrooge. Rosalie sees beyond his no-nonsense demeanor, though. Can she get him to open up and let his guard down?
A must read. Great Christmas book. Don’t miss it.
Rosalie has put all her hopes and dreams into her pet shop after losing her husband. She is trying to find a way to make it more profitable. The idea is to have more traffic by the store. She is trying to convince Everett the town manager to reroute the parade to give business to her side of town. Everett is not budging very easily. He is trying to get his life back on track after he stumbled on his ex-wife stealing money. Doing the right thing made him lose everything. Both parties have experienced loss and are looking to recover from it. Both have dogs that are a big part of their lives . At least they have that in common. As time goes by and they have several talks , feelings stir up neither expected. Funny how life throws situations at us and eventually we figure them out. I was provided this book by the publisher for my honest review
I couldn’t wait to read The Christmas Wish by Curtis. I will admit she’s a new author for me and when I saw she had out a Christmas novella I knew I had to try it. I just loved the cute cover! Make you want to join in and enjoy the holidays!
This is such a cute start to her Sunshine Valley series. Right away you started to understand the town and the people in it. You wanted to know more about everyone. Right away you join into the Christmas cheer that is until you meet Everett.
Boy, is he, one unhappy person!
You pretty much understand why right away. And even though you feel for him, you don’t. I know that doesn’t make much sense what till you read it. You’ll understand completely. Because he’s so unhappy he stands in his own way of everything. Happiness, friendships, just a general wanting to be around others.
Thank gosh for Rosalie. If anyone deserves to running around unhappy it’s her. In fact, she has a bigger reason the be unhappy but won’t let that stop her from enjoying the holiday cheer with family and friends.
Now don’t think this book is full of sadness because it’s not. There is a lot of fun that happens. I totally enjoyed it and I’m so glad that I gave it a try. There are times when these two get together and make me chuckle. The way they flirt is so cute. Of course, since this is a novella they do fall in love very quickly but because of the holiday fun, I don’t have a problem overlooking that. Usually, I like my novella’s to be second chance romance or friends to lovers. Makes the love more believable. But since it’s a holiday romance it works.
You’ll really enjoy this introduction to the Sunshine Valley series and the people who live there. I can’t wait for more!
Sunshine Valley, Colorado has a new town
manager, Everett Bollinger. In order for the
town to prosper, he needs to cut back on
the Christmas festivities. So he has earned
the nickname ”Scrooge” throughout the
town.
This is also the town where the Sunshine
Valley Widows Club(the secret Sunshine
Valley Matchmakers Club resides. They pick
a person to make a match without that
person knowing what is happening.
This year Rosalie Reyes, a widow and owner
of the new Sunshine Pets shop with a Saint
Bernard dog named Remy will be the one to
be matched.
Everett is divorced and receives a surprise,
when his ex-wife’s terrier mix dog named
Tinkerbell who is a real trip arrives on his
doorstep.
Mix a town Scrooge, a widowed pet store
owner, a Saint Bernard & terrier mix for an
adventurous read!!!
There was definitely chemistry between
Rosalie and Everett but will they overcome
their issues to act upon it. They will if the
Sunshine Matchmakers manage to succeed.
Both the targeted two couple were well
fleshed, realistic and relatable main characters.
The supporting characters were well written.
This is intricately woven story that will delight
and entertain the reader.
A magical, heartwarming read!!!
I volunteered to read The Christmas Wish.
Thanks to the author and publisher via
NetGallery for the opportunity. My opinion
is voluntary and my own.
This book was seriously the cutest story, and it will put you into the Christmas Spirit for sure. I like how the author took to broken people and made them feel very much like real people looking for love. I loved all the characters of Sun Valley it truly felt like coming home, they truly felt like I was catching up with friends. I loved Yolanda and Kimmy oh my those two killed me. I hope that Kimmy’s story comes out soon I would love to see what antics she’s going to get herself in. Remi and Tinkerbell will have you laughing and the craziness. I loved how the author kept this book clean and suitable for all ages. This book was super quick read and you will not be disappointed. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion
I loved this story. It got me into the Christmas spirit. Everyone is calling Everett Scrooge. It is his job to help the city become more fiscally solvent. If he can’t find some way to get the city into the black, he will have to lay off some people at Christmas time. He is into enforcing the rules and laws and not everyone is happy about it. Rosalie is a new business owner and everything she tries to do to promote her business, Scrooge shoots it down. What can she do? Everett has had a tough time of it and will not be sticking around town for long, so he doesn’t care if they like him or not. Except, he is starting to care if Rosalie likes him. He is beginning to care a little too much.
4 1/2 STARS!
With the kick-off novella to her brand new Sunshine Valley series, Melinda Curtis delights us all with THE CHRISTMAS WISH. He’s sort of the town’s enemy … and she’s sort of falling for him!
Rosalie is a sweetly fierce character. She is finally taking a chance on herself and has started up that pet store she’s been dreaming of for so long, but she’s not about to stand around and watch this big-wig guy in a suit try to run roughshod on her friends, family and town.
Everett is misunderstood. He’s trying to do his job the best way he knows how in making the town profitable but he’s getting the runaround every way he turns. He knows he came into town with a whole passel of personal baggage on his shoulders, but he has truly grown to like these people and wants what is best for them … why does he always have to be the bad guy?
I recommend this story to anyone wanting a fast paced, enjoyable holiday read. It’s a small town romance with hints of scandal to keep you entertained. I’m looking forward to the first full length novel in the series!
I received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
It’s that time of year!
You know the time I’m talking about. The time when you want to bust out all your Christmas decor. The time where you want to curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and watch a Hallmark movie. Or you could just curl up with Melinda Curtis’ new novella. It’s guaranteed to make you feel that Christmas magic too.
With it being a short story, only 92 pages, I don’t want to give too much away. But like I insinuated above, it has all the requirements of the classic Christmas story.
a charming, determined heroine
a stubborn, moody hero
an effort to save a Christmas parade due to budget cuts
and an adorable dog named Remy
I really enjoyed this story and recommend you pick it up to enjoy it this holiday season. It comes out tomorrow – actually in a few short hours. Don’t miss out on this one!
A big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC for a unbiased review. xx

I floved this read, Everette and Rosalie are more like frenemies than enemies, but boy Everette really does channel his inner Scrooge. But as you get to know him you understand why and you know having Rosalie is just what he needs and you will just love Rosalie and she soo deserves love. Be ready for a bit of sass, big dogs, little dogs along with other cute animals, epic penny pinching and an almost ruined Christmas. This is not just a feel good Christmas book but also a lesson that no matter how bad you thinks things are something great can still come along.
One of the reasons I enjoyed this book so much was because the hero was a curmudgeon who didn’t want to celebrate Christmas so the town called him “Mr. Scrooge”!!!! Then, he slowly starts to change because of the persistence of a cheerful, animal lover named Rosalie! Their interactions are fun to read and it was a fun story line! I look forward to this new series by Melinda Curtis. Already I like the fun, small town in Colorado! The Matchmaking Widows are especially fun! I definitely recommend it!
I absolutely loved this novella. It is a heartwarming romance happening during the Christmas season. It includes charming pets, an adorable little one, a group of widowed ladies – that try to be matchmakers and Santa! A perfect combination for a light-hearted read (with a touch of a serious subjects included). The two main characters find love for a second time and in the process find peace for their past.
I want to give a huge thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Forever Yours for allowing me the pleasure of reading this touching novella by Melinda Curtis. I have read several of her previous books and she is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. My review is my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
“The Christmas Wish” (A Sunshine Valley Novella) by Melinda Curtis is a fantastic read. I loved Rosalie and Everett’s story. This is a wonderful Christmas story, packed with romance, small-town life, family, entertaining characters, and second chances. I can’t wait to see what happens next in Sunshine Valley. Highly recommend to all fans of sweet romance, Christmas, and small-town stories.
“The season of love and forgiveness.” This is the theme of this story.
It is a modern day “It’s a wonderful life”
Everett has taken a job in a small town to “fix” the budget. Does that mean layoff’s for Christmas?
Can Rosalie help him and his dog Tinkerbell to become a part of this community? Can people trust and love after some hard times?
A feel good novella that you will love!
“The Christmas Wish” by Melinda Curtis introduces us to Sunshine Valley and the Widows Club (aka Matchmakers Club).
Rosalie Reyes needs to get the word out about her pet store, Sunshine Pets. But everything she tries to do for publicity, town manager, Everett Bollinger nixes.
Everett moved to Sunshine Valley to balance the town’s budget and, possibly, lay off some of the workers if he can’t find a way for the town to make money.
Brought together by a mug of hot chocolate and their two dogs, Remy and Tink, Rosalie and Everett realize they have other things in common besides their pets—that they bring out the best in each other.
With one of the best last lines I’ve ever read, “The Christmas Wish” is delightful fun and will warm your heart on a cold winter’s night.
There’s a secret club in Sunshine Valley, CO. There are three members of this club, senior citizens Bitsy Whitlock, Mims Turner and Clarice Rogrs. These three are the sole members of the Sunshine Valley Matchmakers Club. They play poker to determine which member gets to pick the person to be matched up. In this story, A Christmas Wish, Bitsy wins the poker hand and she chooses Rosalie Reyes, widow and newly returned to town. After some discussion they decide to match Rosalie with new town manager Everett Bollinger, commonly referred to by most people in town as Scrooge. I like the whole premise of this new series by Melinda Curtis. Senior citizen “young-at-heart” ladies are perfect perpetrators of matchmaking. This is a fun read complete with likeable characters and happy Christmas activities. I highly recommend it!
Scrooge to Santa.
The matchmaking Widows Club decide that Rosalie Reyes should be their holiday project but the man they fix upon for her love interest is a veritable Scrooge and needs a little helping hand. A sweet small town romance with a Christmassy feel. A quick and easy read.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
