The Christmas spirit is overtaking Tradd Street with a vengeance in this festive new novel in the New York Times bestselling series by Karen White.Melanie Trenholm should be anticipating Christmas with nothing but joy–after all, it’s the first Christmas she and her husband, Jack, will celebrate with their twin babies. But the ongoing excavation of the centuries-old cistern in the garden of her … cistern in the garden of her historic Tradd Street home has been a huge millstone, both financially and aesthetically. Local students are thrilled by the possibility of unearthing more Colonial-era artifacts at the cistern, but Melanie is concerned by the ghosts connected to the cistern that have suddenly invaded her life and her house–and at least one of them is definitely not filled with holiday cheer….
And these relics aren’t the only precious artifacts for which people are searching. A past adversary is convinced that there is a long-lost Revolutionary War treasure buried somewhere on the property that Melanie inherited–untold riches rumored to be brought over from France by the Marquis de Lafayette himself and intended to help the Colonial war effort. It’s a treasure literally fit for a king, and there have been whispers throughout history that many have already killed–and died–for it. And now someone will stop at nothing to possess it–even if it means destroying everything Melanie holds dear.

This is a great book! There are several stories going and you have to pay attention or you might miss something! It is close to Christmas in Charleston, South Carolina and plans are vie directunderway for the yearly fund raiser,a .progressive dinner where each part of the meal is at a different house. Melanie Trenholm’s house is part of the festivities. As if this is all she had to deal with! There are ghosts all over the place and they seem to like Melanie. Add to the mix lost treasure that Melanie and her husband Jack could use for income, a movie director who wants to film in her house, a less than scrupulous in law, and bouts of OCD left over from her childhood that leave her doubting herself, all add up to a whopper of a great story. There are many other side stories that also make this entry into series one of the best.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher.
I have yet to find a full book on this Tradd series, I haven’t liked. However, I will state that I am disappointed with the ending on this one. Otherwise the book is a real page turner, lots of excitement and action. The main characters are believable, endearing, and fun to read about. The plot is easily followed and the story is a good one. I can definitely recommend this book, knowing that perhaps my assessment of the ending is unrealistic.
I love all of this authors books.
I have read all six in series in for days. I could not put them down. Beautifully written with great imagery.
I have read all of the Tradd Street books and have loved them all. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I have read several Karen White books and have enjoyed them all, but Tradd Street are my favorite.
Great book read by Amiee Bruneau. Love her too
Ok, so. This book broke me with the ending. I don’t want to give anything away but Karen took my breath away with the way this book ended. The Tradd Street series is my absolute favorite series. Karen’s writing transports you right into Charleston which I have been to and she describes everything perfectly. She really captures her setting. Her lyrical prose transcends off the pages. The characters were the characters I have grown to love. Melanie had developed in certain areas but she is human and makes mistakes. And Jack, oh Jack. Jack was probably my first ever book boyfriend.
I know this book was published a while ago but I just couldn’t bring myself to read it because I love the story and characters so much. I wanted to prolong the storytelling as much as possible. I know there is only one more book left in the series and Karen has to deliver because my heart is broken after this one.
I highly suggest reading this series in order. It would be the best experience all around. The Christmas Spirits on Tradd Street delivered me with mystery, family, friends, ghosts, and some sadness tinged around the edges.

Love this entire series – great characters! Interesting, original plots. Charleston setting is great. I just feel as though I’m “there” when I read the Tradd Street series.
Karen White is one of my favorite authors!
I could not get into this book. Maybe because I haven’t read the previous books in the series, but the characters and story line just made reading a chore. I didn’t finish it.
My favorite so far of the Tradd Street Series.
I loved every book up to this one. I did not care for the direction this book took nor did I care for the ending!!
I liked the story and LOVED the setting, but hated the ending. I realize it leaves it open for a sequel, but still…
Love all of the Tradd Street stories, love all the characters, didn’t love the end but can’t wait for next book
I have loved this series from the beginning, and am sorry to hear that there will only be one more book. This book was amazing with lots of holiday details and twists. I am heartbroken to see that Jack and Mellie are facing fierce difficulties. I just pray that all works out well for them, the children, and the house on Tradd Street.
I love this series, humor and a great story line
I have read all the books in this series. Absolutely love them. Read this one in a little over a day. Looking forward to the next one.
I really enjoy the characters in these books and how they have grown over the course of the series. Melanie is trying to get used to having a sister and is having some jealousy over Jayne’s closeness with her parents. It is understandable since she was an only child until recently. But Jayne can understand some things about Melanie that other people can’t because they share the gift of being able to see spirits. As their mother keeps saying “They are stronger together.” There is a mystery to be solved involving the Vanderhorst family and another property that they owned, Gallen Hall Plantation. I really enjoyed the information about the peacock spy ring and I liked the Christmas theme of the book and hearing about all of the historic decorations. And you do not have to read the other books in this series to read this one. However, this book does end with a cliffhanger.
I received a complimentary copy of this ebook from Berkley Publishing Group through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Love, love, love this series!! Not a supernatural fan normally but these characters are so real and flawed. Highly recommend.
I am not ready for Christmas and was relieved that this isn’t a sweet, sappy story about a family buying presents, decorating, and celebrating Christmas. This is a story about a house haunted, the lady of the house can see the spirits, and of a family doing whatever necessary to keep their family intact and living in the house they call home.
Melanie, the mother and wife, was a part-time person. She was involved in so many things that she didn’t have time to give anything her entire attention. The fact that there was a hole in her backyard due to a Sistine being buried there did nothing to ease her anxiety. Melanie was not able to spend the time she wanted with her family and kept BIG secrets from her husband. I didn’t like how much she was pulled in so many directions and that she never had time to just be.
The history and mysteries were amazing. I was pulled in and intrigued by all that was happening with it. The story of the American Revolution and the happenings in Charleston were important to the history and solving the mystery of the treasures is a perfect story to tell. The spirits gave clues, the people who tried to solve the mystery did a great job of putting them together, and I had no clue as to what was going to happen.
The Christmas Spirits on Tradd Street is a fast paced book, with history, and amazing characters.
