What do I love more than writing Christmas stories? Reading them! Give me a book about sisters and the holidays and I’m already hooked. THE CHRISTMAS SISTERS by Sarah Morgan drew me right in. Told through alternating points of view, each character’s struggles are slowly revealed and overcome as the family gathers for the holidays in a remote Scottish town. A charming setting and delightful characters make for a perfectly cozy Christmas read.
Enjoyed this Christmas inspired novel. Although sitting in my home with the AC still on & outside being in the upper 80’s, it’s hard to get into the Christmas spirit! Still I did enjoy these characters & the mostly women’s fiction storyline.
Suzanne McBride is a true mother – she worries about her children. Bethany “Beth” seems to be a woman who is trying to find her purpose. You can almost feel the stress coming off the page. She’s also a little frustrated with one of her siblings. Hannah seems to be a very important part as to where this story is headed. She makes me think of someone who doesn’t know how to be anything but standoffish. It was interesting to see how she explained to the reader about her personality.
When you see a holiday listed in the title, you start the book off with certain expectations. You can’t do that here. For me, this story starts off so sad. There are some people that just aren’t happy around the holidays. Posey had me thinking that maybe there’s hope. She seems to do something that she enjoys. I liked how all the McBride women are main characters. This way I don’t have to choose a favorite. I also got my sister fix so I grew up in a house of brothers. I had to take my assumptions and put them away. I didn’t want to go in looking for our family to fall apart – there has to be that part where family love wins out.
It’s not a story where I wanted to listen to Christmas music as I was reading. And that’s a good thing because that just means that I could read Ms. Morgan’s book any time of year. On the other side, I don’t want to be thinking snow just yet. I would prefer to ease into it but I know that I don’t have any say in that. Although I must say that I had the urge to pack my bags, book included, and take a trip to Scotland. It would also be interesting to experience how they would celebrate the holidays. This was my first experience with this author and I look forward to more – especially if it has me wanting to go and experience some of what her characters did.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
I am ready to start decorating for Christmas now! Suzanne adopted three girls after their parents were killed in a tragic accident and we are get to hear from each of them, Beth, Hannah, and Posy, and learn how they have learned to cope through the years from their loss. This book was so good I couldn’t put it down and found myself carrying it from room to room. I’m not going to tell you anything about it except that because this is just another great one from this author and brings family together and you cannot miss it. Definitely gets high marks from me and high recommendations!
This is set in the Highlands of Scotland and the descriptions had me homesick for my ancestors!
Wow what an emotional ride! At first I thought it was a bit all over the place, but once you got used to who was who I loved having all of their perspectives. While being set around Christmas, this was far from your normal Christmas story. The tragedy, the assumptions, mixed feelings, insecurities, the deep rooted issues. As I said this was super emotional! Strongly recommend this read.
A powerful family saga filled with richness and hope! Sarah Morgan has outdone herself with this holiday treasure. We meet a family who was formed from tragedy, and who each are having their own growing pains, but who at the heart of it all love each other more than they even realize. We go through the tribulations of life with each of the daughters while the underlying foundation of their family is remembered and tested. Each daughters story feels like it’s own little world, yet it all rolls together beautifully into this heartwarming story. Absolutely loved it!
Suzanne McBride is looking forward to the magic of Christmas in Scotland, because she’s going to have all of her girls home together for the first time in a couple of years! She’s rushing around trying to get everything ready with the help of her daughter Posy who still lives close to home and is following in her Mom’s footsteps of working the family cafe, but Suzanne has no clue that Posy wants more out of life. She seems happy because she is a happy person, but she wants to see more of the world … and the hunky renter currently living beside her just might encourage that! When daughter Beth unexpectedly shows up early … without her family in tow … they figure something is up, but Beth isn’t open to spilling her guts to anyone except for Posy who she swears to secrecy. She’s had an awful argument with her husband because she wants to return to work, but she is also feeling Mommy guilt and second-guessing herself! Low and behold workaholic daughter Hannah also shows up early, still seeming to be burying herself in work, but also seeming off even for her. She has a life-changing secret that she’s not sure how to accept, and she’s even more terrified of sharing it with anyone. Will this cozy family Christmas turn into madness, or will the love that surrounds them shine through and lead to that magical Christmas after all?
Whenever I pick up a book by this very talented author, I know that I am in for a treat. This one is no exception.
We are transported to Scotland , the beauty of the land , and the lives of Suzanne McBride and her three adoptive daughters. Girls that loss their parents in a tragic accident. An accident that changed their lives forever and an incident that affected each of them in a unique manner.
Suzanne wants to create a wonderful Christmas for Hannah, Beth and Posy.
This is a story that is at times heartbreaking, but also heartwarming. A reminder that our experiences as a child do in fact affect us as adults.
It’s a story about hope, new beginnings, family and love. And isn’t that what Christmas is all about.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Well this book gave me a much needed Christmas in July! What a good way to spend a hot day reading a story set in much cooler times. This is a wonderful and heartwarming story about 3 sisters, Hannah, Bethany and Posey, and the tragedy that changed their lives forever so many years earlier. It’s about love and family and everything that goes along with that. It’s about learning to forgive and move on and form new beginnings with each other. It’s amazing how the author is able to keep 3 storylines going and give us so much of each one. I love that!! I also really love Suzanne! What she did for those girls is beyond special. She really gave the whole family is not always blood dynamic a new meaning. The 3 sisters are so different yet all connected by their past. I really enjoyed it!!
Loved this book Any book that makes me cry is a good one I could relate as I am 1 of 4 sisters
I really enjoyed this story. It is a story about a family that started with tragedy. However, love binds them together and even after many years together they have to learn to get past that tragedy and be a family.
This is the perfect holiday read from the Queen of Christmas herself, Sarah Morgan. I love Sarah’s romances, but her women’s fiction books are even more amazing. I loved this visit to wintry Scotland for the holidays and the McBride family tugged at my heartstrings in a major way.
Enchanting. I highly recommend this magical Christmas story of familial love and romance.
Wonderful, heartwarming book. Highly recommended.
The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan is a sweet, heart-warming story. Twenty five years ago Suzanne and her husband adopted 3 sisters who had lost their parents in an avalanche. An event that still affects everyone involved to this day. For the first time in years all three girls are coming home with their families to spend a traditional Scottish Christmas with their parents but each sister comes with her own set of problems relating to the lose of their birth parents. Although there’s no doubt they love each other there is a distance between them. Will the spirit of Christmas manage to bring them together?
This book is all about the importance of family and the various relationships within it. It’s well written with equal time given to each sister so that no one character monopolises the story. A perfect book for reading, sitting in front of the fire during the upcoming festive season.
The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan a four-star read you will want to open. This author gives us good heart-warming stories that make you want to snuggle in comfy chair with a cup of hot chocolate and this book to while away a cold wintery afternoon. It gives you that feeling while reading it even when you can’t be in those circumstances. This was a tale of family and coming together and anyone with a family with even the slightest drama will know that Christmas is a hard time to be together and this author shows us that, but she also shows us hope and shows us how sisters pull together in the best way possible. These sisters are such compelling characters, they all have differences and are amazing in their own rights, the way they have been written make you adore them and need to read each page quicker than the last.
A touching story about family and parenting, sisters, drama and tragedy in love and life during one special Christmas time that shakes up the relationships in the family and leads them all to a new path in life.
I absolutely adore the way Sarah Morgan tells a story; there are deep emotions and angst but not so much that it overshadows the story hope and love. There are conflicts, passion, humor, warmth, sweetness, and everything else that are part of the relationships and life, yet when I get to the end, there is this balanced, wholesome, complete feeling of happiness and satisfaction towards the tale and its events, that it fills the heart with bliss, every single time.
The Christmas Sisters is a story of a family that was formed by a tragedy but stayed together because of love, loyalty, and commitment. All the three sisters and their adoptive mother get their chance to tell their point of view into the events of this particular Christmas and the one 25 years ago, that changed their lives so drastically. Each of the four leading ladies have their points of weaknesses and issues they have to face, relationships their have to repair, and moments of learning and growing they have to embrace while spending the Christmas together with their loved ones.
Each of those four leading ladies also has their romantic relationships to deal with, to grow in, and fall for, or to take the leap of faith to the next level of the bond in between them and their mates.
I loved the sisters, how truly different they were, and yet so similar in their pursuit of life and love. They are strong women, each talented in their own way, the tragic accident shaping them up in different ways to be the women they are today. I loved the bond between them, how they might not agree upon much at first, yet still willing to stand for each other when the need arises.
The Christmas Sisters is a profound story about love; maternal love, love between sisters, love in a family, and the romantic kind of love that swipe you off your feet. It is a heartfelt tale of the bond only sisters can feel between them, an ardent tale of romantic love between four different kinds of couples. And it is a story about a Christmas miracle that saves a little girls faith in the all that magic that only the season can bring into our lives.
Another home run from Sarah Morgan, a story that I savored, felt part of while I was reading it, and will want to revisit again. An absolutely marvelous story that will stay in my mind and heart for a long time to come

I absolutely loved this story! I have never read Sarah Morgan before but I will definitely be looking into her other books! This amazing story of women’s fiction shows that no matter the circumstances, family can make it through anything.
Hannah, Beth, and Posy, lost their biological parents at a young age and are so loved when their mother’s best friend adopts them. Told in four perspectives, we get a cohesive and complete look into the lives of these three sisters and their adoptive mother. I am still in awe of how developed the characters are, and how multi-layered this story is.
We can all relate to these characters. While we may not have gone through the same things that they have and are going through, we all know how difficult family ties can be sometimes. At the same time, we know how strong family ties can be and that they can overcome some of the worst times in life.
I absolutely loved the setting of this book. The snowy Highlands of Scotland was the perfect place for these sisters to face their past, present, and future, together as a team.
This is one of the best Christmas reads that I have ever read. It’s not even Halloween yet and I’m ready to bust out my tree and decorate my entire house. This story is heartfelt, moving, and inspiring.
Don’t look any further for a book that will get you into the holiday spirit. This book will inspire you and make you want to make the most out of every minute with you family during the holiday season.
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
What an enjoyable book. The characters were all so natural and believable. I loved all the little extra touches that made it so special. Can’t wait to read more by this author. Really enjoyed.
I didn’t read this book, I devoured it! Love stories with loving families, ones that get along but are real as well. Take three sisters, all different, 2 living in New York. Beth is married with 2 little girls and Hannah is not married and it seems like she does not like kids. Posy still lives with her parents in Scotland, but she dreams of climbing mountains everywhere. They come together for Christmas once again and boy do conflicts collide. Stewart and Suzanne adopted the girls and never looked back, can family be all that they want it to be! A cozy Christmas in the Highlands of Scotland will have you dreaming of the perfect Christmas along with Suzanne. You will want to have a cozy drink in the pub in town and read this story!
The McBride sisters have all come home to Scotland for Christmas and they’ve brought a load of “baggage” with them! Three sisters who have been avoiding each other, a pregnancy test, a sexy mountain climber, a gossipy small town, two children, a horse named Socks, and loads of Christmas chaos… Sarah Morgan draws you right into the hustle and bustle wrapping you into the heart of this novel with each turn of the page. Warm and funny, The Christmas Sisters should be on everyone’s holiday checklist! Warm and funny, The Christmas Sisters should be on everyone’s holiday checklist!
I started reading Sarah Morgan about a year and a half ago and each novel exceeds the last. Her stories are tender, her characters are real and there is always a dash of humor. Sarah Morgan is a go-to author and The Christmas Sisters is a holiday must read!
