The Christmas Ring was such a sweet sweet book! I loved how it brings all the feelings that one can relate to Christmas no matter when in the year you’re reading it 🙂 I especially loved the story between Victoria Carter and Trace Travers. It certainly hooked me from the first chapter and didn’t let go! I found interesting both Trace’s working as a telephone man who has a fear of heights, and his playing the ‘Bub’ persona. I also enjoyed their interactions and watching them fall for each other, while I’m sure other fans and readers of this series will enjoy seeing previous characters featured in this book. The author’s note is right: while this book can be enjoyed as a standalone (pretty much my experience), it’d be a richer experience if the reader has been following the series in order. As for the ending, I think it was really sweet, and ties everything that’s been happening in the story neatly. A Christmas Ring indeed 😀 ~4.5 stars
Content (Mild Spoilers ahead): this is a sweet romance with some passionate kisses but nothing further happens. However, there are some thoughts that delve into a bit more intimate nature or notice certain settings (such as how close a man’s hand is from a woman’s bosom when she’s holding said hand in her lap). There were also some thoughts/phrases that seemed rather disturbing (the most jarring being along the lines of “he considered turning her over his knee and smacking her backside until it was as red as a holly berry”). Were it not for these things, I think I’d be able to round it up to a higher rating or consider re-reading this book.
Loved going back to Hardman and seeing all the great characters from previous books as well as getting to know the new characters and following along as they got to know each other and fell in love. sweet romance with a touch of action
Return to Hardman, Oregon! You will love this story written in Shanna Hatfield’s excellent style with wonderful characters, great history, mystery, and of course romance. It is not necessary to have read the other books in this series but after reading this one you will want to get them so you will know the backgrounds of the other characters. Don’t miss this sweet Christmas romance from Shanna Hatfield!
A good clean romance about a second chance at real love for Victoria after being deceived by her first husband and a first love for Trace because of his busy job as undercover Marshall.
It is a well developed story with wonderful and complete characters from previous stories. I really enjoyed it.
I adored reading this book!
It’s an engaging, suspenseful
& moving romance.
Trace, is in town undercover, because
of recent stage & train robberies.
Victoria, is in to town to surprise her brother
& family with a visit.
Trace & Victoria, planned to never fall
in love or marry. But after one chance
meeting, that might have changed it all.
I loved everything about this story!!
A MUST READ!!
Victoria Carter is traveling to her brother’s home in Hardman, Oregon, to escape the gossip from a bad decision she made. On the way, the stagecoach is robbed, and Victoria notices one of the outlaws is very attractive. Finally arriving in town, she is looking for a way to get to her family when she literally runs into another handsome man.
Trace Travers, who is working undercover for the telephone company, offers to take Victoria there. After finding out he attends church and other social gatherings with her brother, she agrees. As Victoria joins in the events, she begins to notice similarities between the outlaw and Trace.
Neither Trace nor Victoria are looking for love. Trace must concentrate on the real reason he is in Hardman and Victoria has lost her trust in men. However, with all the holiday happenings, Christmas just might have other plans.
This is my first Hardman Holidays book out of eight so, personally, I got off to a slow start. Shanna Hatfield wrote with her usual humor and adventure and, in no time, I was involved in another wonderful romance. The surprise ending and the historical use of the telephone were added bonuses.
I received a free Kindle copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.
Update: I purchased a paperback edition as well.
this is a wonderful story love seeing the people from the other books if you like strong men and women you will like the story he is undercover and she is trying to get away from her past so she comes to stay with her brother. very good
It’s Christmas once again in Hardman, Oregon. And that could only mean another fabulous romance by the very talented author, Shanna Hatfield.
In her latest entry in The Hardman Holidays, The Christmas Ring, the town welcomes two newcomers, Victoria Carter and Trace Travers.
Needing to flee the gossip which has plagued her and her family, Victoria accepts an invitation from her brother and his family to start a new chapter in her life. What she doesn’t expect, want or need is another man in her life. But nevertheless, in walks Trace Travers and touches her wounded heart with his teasing comments, curly brown hair and twinkling eyes.
Trace has secrets, too. Secrets which could threaten Victoria and their friends in Hardman. He has a job to do…two jobs, in fact. His plan was to get in and get out of Hardman before Christmas. What he didn’t plan on was falling in love with a beautiful visitor to Hardman.
The Christmas Ring is an outstanding addition to the Hardman Holiday series. It is always interesting going back to this town which Ms. Hatfield has created to catch up with the characters from previous books. The reader is immediately immersed in the town and its inhabitants whether at a taffy pulling party, skating on a nearby pond, watching a Christmas play, or listening to a child’s violin rendition of an angelic Christmas song.
One aspect this reader truly enjoys in all of the author’s books, whether historical or contemporary, are the tidbits of Oregon’s history, current events relative to the period, and simple, everyday occurrences which adds a layer of richness to the characters, plot and setting.
Surprise twists and turns are becoming a hallmark of Ms. Hatfield’s books. With believable characters, a well-thought out plot flawlessly executed, lush period clothing, and a Christmas setting so realistic you can almost breathe in the festive, pine-scented boughs adorning the store fronts of this lively, fun-loving town, the reader is in store for a delightful, old-fashioned romance.
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review
A great addition to the Hardman Holidays series
4.5 stars
I especially enjoy the Hardman Holidays series by Shanna Hatfield. It could be the time period, or the characters, or the fact that they have a little more adventure in them…
The Christmas Ring is a great addition to this series. Victoria has an uncanny ability to notice and remember details which became clear when she was able to give such great descriptions of the outlaws who robbed the stagecoach she was on. This came in handy when she determined to solve the mystery of Trace.
This is a fun story with so many wonderful moments. There was ice skating and a taffy pull. There were outlaws and mystery. I even love the pun of the name!
Even though Christmas has passed, this is a story that is lovely all year round.
I was given a copy of this book. I was not required to give a favorable review nor was any money received for this review. All comments and opinions are my own.
As only Shanna Hatfield can do; she writes a pull em in and keep em reading story with fabulous surprises throughout and at the end. This most wonderful story is so good and so fantastic that it is just as I first said. This one just pulled me from the first page and I couldn’t put this one down until I was done and even then I had to think about this awesome, amazing story that was so brilliantly thought out and plotted and thoroughly written well, that is leaves you still thinking awhile after you are done. She has a way to leave you spell bound in this story.
So much is happening in this story with an amazing romance going on and adventures that it has you practically wanting to climb into the pages to join in the fun.
I have loved every Hardman story in this series but this one I think it the best yet. Ms. Hatfield gets better and better at her craft that she should be teaching classes in how to write well because this author has everything needed to be a great author, and in my book, she is a great author. She does not disappoint ever!
I won’t put spoilers in, as this one has to be a big surprise to all who reads it and I am hoping there are many who pick this one up and settle in with a hot beverage, a pastry or two and read this story, and I guarantee you will be pulled right in and won’t be able to stop ready until you finish it. If you read Ms. Hatfield’s books you know there are many chapters and pages there usually are, and you better settle in for a long time as it is absolutely a wonderful book that you want to read it again, and again I already want to read it again.
I received an arc by the author but this is my honest opinion in this review and I wanted to do it because I loved this story.
I was really excited to hear there was another Hardman Christmas romance and The Christmas Ring did not disappoint. Shanna Hatfield knows how to write great stories and this one was a page turner that had me impatiently itching to get to the end.
I really enjoyed the interplay between Victoria and Trace. I liked the way Trace was able to really see who Victoria was and worked to restore her confidence and belief in herself. I empathised with Trace and his fear of heights and his muttering thoughts towards his boss.
Altogether this was a book I relished reading and was a perfect way to spend an afternoon. I thoroughly recommend reading it.
This was such a great read – I can’t imagine ever being so scared and yet keeping my eye out for such details – but what a fun time and the interaction and revisit with other character fantastic to know!
