Is she strong enough to fulfill her legacy or will the dark side prevail?
After the gruesome battle on Xzanthar, General Arantu is on a mission to seek retribution, and he has Earth in his sights. Alinthia and her protectors ally with the government to shield innocent humans from attack, but that’s not their only concern. As her eighteenth birthday approaches, Alinthia’s awakening draws closer, … approaches, Alinthia’s awakening draws closer, and no one knows what to expect.
Working from the secret society’s hidden base in the Valley of the Queens, Alinthia attempts to forge partnerships with alien allies in preparation for the ultimate battle. However, emotions are running high, distrust is rampant, and loyalty is hard-won.
Dane continues to push Alinthia away, causing additional friction and uncertainty when they can’t afford to be divided. Determined to avoid confronting what happened on Xzanthar, he throws himself into his duties, butting heads with everyone as he struggles to deal with the aftermath.
Presenting a united front has never been more important, but will their bond be enough to save Alinthia from the dark, evil forces still lingering in the shadows? Or are they all doomed to fail?more
I love this series so much. It’s the first in this particular trope that I’ve read and I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I was proven wrong.
I’ve really come to be invested in the lives of Alinthia and her protectors. I’ve been as eager as other readers to finally see a breakthrough in her relationship with Dane. I know we’re not there yet, but I was happy to see a start to that happening. I also love seeing the relationships with the others progressing.
I’m a little cautious of Glennev still. I’m not sure why, but I get an inky feeling about him and I’m not sure if I trust that he’s got Alinthia’s best interests at heart. I hope that the guys have their eyes open about him.
I love that we got to see Alinthia’s friends from Earth again, even Jensen being a part of the story was fantastic. I love that she loves so hard and so true that she keeps all these people in her life no matter how chaotic it becomes.
As any true fan of Siobhan Davis knows, she is the Queen of the Cliffhanger! So be prepared for that, because this book is no different. I absolutely can not wait for the next installment, which I believe will be the last. I am very eager to see how it all plays out!
*I was blessed with an advanced copy of this book which I voluntarily reviewed.*
If you’ve been following this series, then you know that Alinthia and her 4 protectors (Dane, Maddox, Beckett and Cooper) were brought together as babies and bonded with magic. Then then were ripped apart from each other and grew up the 4 protectors separated from Alinthia. They were taught of the prophecy that centered around Alinthia and her protectors, that their bond was important in helping her be the savior of the universe. But Alinthia grew up on earth with her memory wiped, not knowing of her protectors, their bond, or the prophecy.
Now that Alinthia is reunited with her protectors and the bond growing and her powers getting stronger, they run across some pretty traumatic things that happen to them. Now as a result of that some of the protectors’ bond with Alinthia is growing stronger, but some is growing non existent. My heart cries for suffering that goes on and i worry, because if they don’t repair the bond then Alinthia won’t be able to defeat General Arantu (the threat to the universe).
In this book, The Chosen One, things get really hot & steamy between Alinthia and her protectors. Except for one, where things are pretty cold & distant. Can Alinthia keep her protectors close and strengthen her bond? My heart was aching so much for all the hurting & pain. I had tears sliding down my face. But she has her other protectors who tell her they love and cherish her all the time. They’re so sweet and so loving. When General Arantu‘s men attack earth Alinthia takes them out. But Alinthia has nightmares where some creature is trying to kill her and it’s like what happens in her nightmares really happens, so she becomes afraid to sleep.
This book touches on the paranormal/sci-fi aspect, but i think it focused more on their relationships as the Chosen One and her Protectors. Their bond is important, and we see how the three of them have opened up to it and become so much closer to Alinthia. But we also see that link that is fragile, that is breaking and needs help and isn’t accepting it. This book was so important in bringing us to the final book. I loved it. Those complex characters were written so well, not just their dialogue and their thoughts, but their actions as well. I’m really looking forward to the last book!! Very Highly Recommended!!
***I received an eARC of this book from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.***
Please note there are spoilers to previous books in the following review. If you have not read the prior books in the Alinthia series, read at your own risk.
I’ve been reading Siobhan Davis since her first novel True Calling released. You would think that I would know better by now than to start one of her books before bed. But y’all I’ll never learn, and I’ll happily lose sleep every time. The Chosen One is the fourth book in Davis’s Alinthia series and wastes no time in throwing the reader into the action. Picking up almost exactly where The Warrior Princess left off, Alinthia and her protectors are back on Earth, an Earth that is currently surrounded by Arantu’s army. Her job is simple now, reveal herself to the galaxy and build an army of her own.
Division Among the Ranks
Alinthia and her protectors went through hell and back during the last book. Her protectors were captives or Arantu and his daughter. Dane suffered most at the hands of Alandra. His PTSD affects the entire group, Alinthia the most. Alinthia wants to help Dane. Of her four protectors, he is the leader and also the one that has never fully opened up to her. She makes herself available for him, showing that he can trust her if need be. Yet he continues to hold back, his character arc is heart-breaking. Siobhan Davis handles his character with care and shows the depths of his feelings for the readers.
Cooper, Beck, and Maddox are also still dealing with their time in captivity. However because their torture was different than Dane’s (remember he took the brunt for them), they take every minute they can to show Alinthia their love and devotion. I forgot how much I love each of them. They are fully fleshed out and bring their own unique gifts to the team. Beck is still my favorite though
Now to Alinthia….I really struggled to empathize with her this book. She can be a selfish character at times, and her lack of empathy with Dane wore on me. She thinks about wanting to kiss him and touch him, craving a physical connection (which I get, when you love someone, you want that physical intimacy too), and acts on those thoughts a few times without thinking about the consequences and Dane’s fragile emotional state. He was physically, mentally, and sexually abused during The Warrior Princess. That doesn’t just go away overnight. She seems to forget this, losing her temper with him multiple times. Not cool Alinthia!
A Bridge to the End
The plot for this book is more character driven than the previous. It is very much a bridge to the final book in the series. That doesn’t mean it isn’t necessary or good (y’all I read it in one night, it’s fantastic!), just that there isn’t much movement on the series plot. Does that make sense? I actually enjoyed the focus on the characters this go around. Alinthia continues her training as we edge closer to her eighteenth birthday, her protectors adapt to the real prophecy, and new players enter the field. A lot happens and nothing happens at the same time. Instead there is a focus on Alinthia and her protectors healing and strengthening their bond.
I’m Not Ready
Overall I enjoyed The Chosen One. It was a necessary filler for the series, allowing the characters to grow and expand before the final battle. Y’all I’m not ready for the final book. I don’t want to say goodbye to this world or the characters Davis has created. If you’ve enjoyed the series so far, I highly recommend you grab some tissues and start reading. Make sure to have some snacks on hand too, you won’t want to sit it down!
The Chosen One is the fourth in the Alinthia series and it really just starts immediately where book #3 left off (so read the others before you start!!).
Long story short, Alinthia and her four protectors are still trying to save the world.
But what’s really important is the relationship between the five. As this is a reverse harem, Alinthia’s connection with her men deepens…except for Dane. The tension between the two is palpable. Dane was abused and tortured and is struggling, and to be frank he’s taking it out on Alinthia and the others.
Siobhan always does such a good job at creating emotional connections and characters that a reader gets invested in. Even though Dane’s kind of being a dick right now, I still keep hoping for that happily ever after for them all.
Can’t wait for the finale!
My review here is more about the writing and characters than the genre. I always love Ms. Davis’s work and I find the quality of her writing to be excellent; that is true with The Chosen One (Alinthia #4). And I really do love Alinthia, Coop, Maddox, Beck, and Dane. I also loved continuing to see Alinthia’s mom and aunt, Jensen, Daniel and Kylie, Glennev and Donovan…. The character development definitely didn’t disappoint me and it’s keeping me invested in the story, so I can hardly wait to read the fifth (and final) installment.
As for the genre, reverse harem, I struggled a bit. I don’t know if I would’ve stuck with this last book if it hadn’t been for the fact that Ms. Davis wrote it. I can definitely see where the reverse harem idea would have appeal for many readers, but I don’t have much comfort with it and I tend not to seek it. The fact that The Chosen One has gotten to the point of the reverse harem being pretty much fully developed and I was still able to become engrossed in and thoroughly enjoy the story is a huge sign of the stellar writing. I was able to focus on the individual characters and all the other facets of the plot.
Now I just can’t wait to see how things are going to play out with Dane’s and Alinthia’s emotional struggles, with Alinthia’s awakening, with Glennev’s health,…. and of course with Arantu. I am confident Ms. Davis will provide nothing but phenomenal plots and developments in the remainder of the series as all of our questions get answered and loose ends get tied up!
Alinthia’s awakening, her 18th birthday is quickly approaching, General Arantu is threatening the Earth, there is still the threat of the unknown Darkness, and while Alinthia has her guys back, Dane is still keeping her at a distance. The bond is strained at a time that Alinthia and her protectors can least afford. They must find a way to come together as one or all will be lost.
The Chosen One is the most important book of the series to me. Yes, we learn more about the prophecy, everyone’s powers are increasing, the looming threat of General Arantu is still there, there’s the mystery of the darkness, and the sci-fi aspect goes up a notch but it’s ALL ABOUT THE BONDS. The relationships with three of her protectors deepen significantly. Cooper makes it clear that nothing is more important than his Alinthia and that he is willing to put himself second to her needs. Maddox is as steadfast, loving, and strong as you could ever want a man to be along with having a wicked sense of humor. Beckett is so beyond adorable in this book, he’s priceless. His complete devotion and adoration of Alinthia leave me speechless. Imagine a guy who waits for you, then studies you to see how to best please you, then dedicates himself totally to you. It’s almost intimidating but then his natural sweetness makes it perfect. Gone is the shy, reserved Beckett. This confident, smart, loving Beckett is seriously sexy. Then there’s my poor broken Dane. My frustrating, angry, confused, mean, scared Dane. He broke my heart every time he broke Alinthia’s heart, every time he broke his own heart. He gutted me. There’s no quick fix for Dane and for Dane and Alinthia but at least now there is hope. And Alithia herself has proven that these guys mean the world to her. She may be the savior of the galaxy but it’s only worth saving if she has her guys by her side. The bonds may not be perfectly solid yet, but this book went quite a way in the right direction. I’m ready for the Awakening now!
Wow I love this book so much it’s better than the last one and that’s brilliant also those boys/men/aliens yummy yes please Alinthia is one lucky lady alien to have four gorgeous males …. This book held me captive , I was hooked and ready to get lost in the world of the chosen one Alinthia and watch the story unravel in my head as they kick butts and try to win against the wicked aliens trying to destroy the world and all the planets to control the universe the only one to stop it is the chosen one and her men ……can she do it ? Well you just have to read and see ohh and that ending made me cry I have high hopes
Wow, what a way to pull the strings holding your heart. Will Tori/Alinthia, be able to get over her feelings of being rejected, betrayed and feeling of self doubt, by Dane?
Books 1-3 of the Alinthia’s series should be read before The Chosen One, book 4. While the bonds of Alinthia with Cooper, Maddox and Beck have gotten stronger and solid what about Dane? Will their bonds be able to be fixed before the dark side takes over? We won’t know the outcome till the final book comes out in 2020.
With all that being said, book 4, The Chosen One, is a must read. As always Siobhan Davis, pulls you in. Her writing makes you feel like you are the characters in her book, but then leaves you hanging and waiting for the next book. I won’t give anything away, but 2020 is to far away.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
The Chosen One is Book 4, and the penultimate book, of the Alinthia series told in multiple POV, but mostly from Alinthia/Tori herself. This is NOT a stand-alone, the story picks up where Book 3 left off, so you have to read the previous books (and I highly recommend them) before this one. Also, if it’s been awhile since you have, you might want to do a re-read to refresh your memory – I wish I had because it took me a couple chapters to get previous events straight in my head again. That being said….
I love Siobhan Davis. She is a brilliant writer. I picked up this series after reading her other books – I don’t normally even read this genre (sci-fi) but she weaves a story so well that you can’t help but get sucked in! She’s a master storyteller which is evident when you feel the emotions right along with the characters. And, oh, all the feels that Dane, Coop, Maddox, Beck and Alinthia will have you feeling – angst, joy, heartbreak, heat and love in abundance. Don’t want to spoil anything, so I won’t be going into the plot or where we might be headed. Just know that these 5 bonded souls have their toughest battles ahead of them (and plenty of sexy times, I’m sure) and I just know (ok, I hope) that it will be the strength of that bond that can see them through. If you haven’t started this series yet – DO IT NOW! And if you’ve been patiently (or impatiently) waiting for The Chosen One – I can tell you that you won’t be disappointed! Now we just have to wait one more time for the last book to see how it all turns out!
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I felt this book all the way to my toes in the heart wrenching and formidable way the five continue their journey. My heart bleeds for Dane and Alinthia as they come head to head with the destruction they endured. Cannot wait for the last book!
AHH finally- their love, their bonds are becoming fully realized. After surviving what they have, having faced betrayal and lost and doubt and separation, these characters can finally start to figure out how to stop fighting each other, stop holding back, and face the enemy together. Alinthia wants to be the leader she’s looked at to be- to safe earth and defeat evil, but her men just want to protect her. General Arantu is unrelenting, and desperate. And the only way forward is to stop him once and for all. And to do that, this group has to be unbreakable, and Alinthia has to embody her destiny.
DANE- oh DANE. The walls must come down. All the feels in this story- so much emotional discovery and ups and downs. I forget how young our valiant heroine is- barely an adult, with the world on her shoulders. The dynamics of this book are perhaps my favorite yet- we have quiet intimacy, tender and sincere, humor, and then the epic stakes of the page turning action and deadly threats. While the action has me on the edge of my seat for the upcoming finale, what I love most are the hesitant but significant bonds between these characters. It’s hard enough being a teen and understanding emotions, yet alone being Chosen and in a relationship with complicated men in an otherworldly battle.
The final book can not get here fast enough- i know the finale is going to be epic, heart-wrenching, and emotional- but I have no doubt, Alinthia will find a way once she unlocks her full self and with the strength of the bonds she has with her protectors.
I love this series! This book we get to see all of them bond more. I was in tears at the end. Dane is that character you can’t help but love regardless of what comes. He is suffering and it’s causing them all to suffer. I love these characters. We all were waiting on Dane to implode, and that scene didn’t disappoint.
The other character that I loved was Beck. He is so sweet, and seeing him gain some confidence was amazing. I can’t say it enough. I love this series! I can’t wait for the last book!
My heart!!!!!!
Much like Alinthia, I’ve had a super soft spot for Dane and have been hoping that he’d be able to work through his issues.
Alinthia, Beck, Maddox and Coop have all strengthened their own bonds as well as their collective bond. Dane is finding his way and it is becoming a struggle for all. After being rescued, most of the guys have decided to not hold back. To show all their love and pull together as a team.
General Arantu is hovering close to Earth and poses a new threat. More enemies and more obstacles await the group while waiting for The Chosen Ones ascension.
Betrayal, rejection, heart break and love.
Book four will have you on a rollercoaster of emotions you won’t know what’s up, down, left or right!
This incredible series is Coming together beautifully. Four books later and I am still finding myself needing the next book. I need book five!!!!!
An emotionally charged battle is being fought against the enemy, as well as amongst themselves. Alinthia’s bond with three of her four protectors has grown strong, yet her relationship with Dane is at its breaking point.
Alinthia’s powers have grown and she is being looked upon as a leader. Protecting Earth is her priority, but everyone else wants to keep her safe. General Arantu is determined to exact his revenge and will do whatever is necessary to acquire her power.
Some threats will be removed, but the only way to obtain peace is to permanently eliminate the General. Alinthia will finally unlock the key to her destiny but the challenge she will face will be formidable.
Her mission is clear, but time is not on her side. She still must wait to come into her full power. However, no matter how much she trains, she can never reach her full potential until her bond with all four protectors has been solidified. Dane has proven to be stubborn and Alinthia will have to break down his walls to strengthen their bond.
This story was emotional. Alinthia struggled with Dane’s rejection, while he was weighed down by abuse he endured in captivity. Maddox, Beck and Cooper will fill the void and give her the love she craves. It’s going to get HOTTTT! I enjoyed watching their relationships grow and become her source of comfort and strength. I am ready to find out where the conclusion will take us. However, I dread the end because I don’t want to let these characters go.
This is a binge-worthy series that will keep you wanting more.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance complimentary copy of this book.
This was definitely the book in the series so far which had the most emotional impact on me! The development of the characters within themselves and together was done in a very subtle yet obvious way which brought the story together!
Not only was there action and romance and adventure, but there was sadness and happiness and heart wrenching scene as well. This book definitely made me cry more than any of the other books in the series and I must say wrapped up really well too.
If any of these things interest you, you have to read this book!
The Chosen One is Book 4 in the Alinthia Series. This book starts out right where book 3 left off so Tori is getting back into the swing of things after her rescue mission to save her 4 protectors. General Arantu is waiting for the perfect moment to strike so it’s a race against time to gain as many allies of every nation as possible. Tori addresses the galaxy as the leader she was born to be and is struggling to believe this is her life now! Her goal is to restore peace to the galaxy and take her rightful place as the ruler of Verron.
Tori starts to have dark dreams with a red eyed monster. She is struggling because of these dreams and she is having a hard time figuring out how to fix things with Dane. Her childhood home gets destroyed leaving Tori even more determined to deliver justice.
I truly love this series because it has everything in it! The sci-fi, romance and action! I can’t wait to read book 5 to see where Tori and Dane’s relationship goes and how She delivers justice and takes her rightful place as the ruler of Verron!
*I did receive an arc copy from the Author.
This book was the best by far, we got to see the relationships between Tori and her men progress. My heart was broken for Dane, and I kept getting mad at him even though it was breaking my heart! I can’t wait for the next and last book!! December is going to feel like forever.
This is book four of Alinthia series and holy crap, this is the book that we have all been waiting for, I’m just going to get to the main point…Dane. Yes, this book is all about Alinthia and her boys and Dane is all center stage and I am SOOO happy about it. Don’t think is all lovey dovey, because MAN, it is so much frustation, because they cannot connect at all from the beginning and it’s driving Alinthia cracy, but she is not giving up this time and she is going to find out why the heck they are not connect and get to the bottom of it. Because Dane is driving himself far away from her and from the boys too and she is not having none of it. She is going to fix this, whatever it takes..
Her relationship with the other boys are growing stronger than ever and together they are helping her practice her powers, which with eighteenth birthday coming she needs all their.
Alinthia is also trying to get allies to protect earth, but things are never as easy for her, but she never gives up and it just proves to all how strong she is.
While we still saw from action on this book, we really got to see more of Alinthia’s relationship with the boys growing stronger and I loved it. But I know the next book is going to be epic and I cannot wait for it.
bring it on!!!!!!!!!
5 out 5 stars….
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Siobhan Davis!
XOXO,
Nelia
One of the things I really love about this series is the approach to the different relationships between our female lead and the males. I really enjoy that they have all developed within their own pace, without it feeling forced.
I’m really excited for the conclusion to this series! Well, I’m nervous and excited. And a little sad because it’s all coming to an end. But I have complete faith in this author to deliver the ultimate ending!
The Chosen One by Siobhan Davis is book number four in the Alinthia Series! As always, Siobhan KILLS IT with this one and YET AGAIN I am blown away by the way she sucks you into her books from the first page till the very last one! Whereas the last book, The Warrior Princess, was a bit more about the action, The Chosen One focused a lot more on the bonds between Alinthia and her four protectors!
If you have been reading the series then you know what had led up to this point, if you have NOT, then this review may contain spoilers from the previous books in the series.
Alinthia’s 18th birthday and her awakening is quickly approaching while General Arantu and his threat against the Earth is a constant reminder that she does not have complete use of her power. And to beat him, she needs them more than ever.
Alinthia and the guys are finally back together, but Dane is more distant then EVER towards her. The bond between Alinthia and her protectors is strained and until the relationship between ALL of them is healed and cohesive, they are NOT at full power and with all the unknown threats just waiting in the wings for them, that is NOT something that they can risk!
Alinthia, she has proven time and again that these four guys, even Dane lol, mean the absolute world to her and she will do anything, even put herself in danger to save her guys. The bonds are not totally solid yet but, after this one… they are getting there!
Carpov A.K.A Cooper has made it clear from the beginning that he’s in love with Alinthia and will do anything to protect her and make her happy.
Manzar A.K.A Maddox is the tough guy with a wicked sense of humor. Whereas Cooper is the soft that Alinthia craves, Maddox is the hard and rough that she craves just as much, but he loves her all the same.
Brint A.K.A Beckett A.K.A Beck, my sweet, sweet, boy. Beckett has always been a little shyer than the rest of the guys BUT since they have been released from Alandra’s clutches, Beckett has made it his mission not to shy away from Alinthia and his feelings for her. For me, Beck has grown the most as far as the protectors and this new confident Beck is smokin’ HOT!
Dekten A.K.A Dane, my broken, beautiful man. He’s frustrating, he’s downright mean towards Alinthia at times, and at times he broke my heart… as well as Alintha’s… but he’s still my favorite. He’s loyal to a fault to his brothers, and underneath it all, he loves Alinthia but he’s struggling. In this installment, we see that there is hope that these two CAN figure it out and Alinthia can help him overcome the obstacles standing between them. I can NOT wait for The Rightful Queen, I am even more excited now after that ending… SHEW!
Watching all of their individual relationships blossom is absolutely amazing and seeing just how much their relationships affect their bonds and their powers are very telling.
As usual, Siobhan GUTS us with that cliffhanger so be prepared!
I don’t want to spoil anything butttt…. There is a steamy scene that I think we have ALL been waiting on since the very first book… Uh-huh… I won’t say more than that because I don’t want to spoil anything but just know, it’s coming ya’ll!
Sci-fi/ paranormal is NOT a trope that I’m usually that into, but since I have absolutely LOVED EVERYTHING Siobhan Davis has written, I figured if she tried her hand in sci-fi then I had to take a chance on it. Since the very first Alinthia book, The Lost Savior, I have become so invested in Alinthia and her four protectors! I am sooo excited for the last book in the series, The Rightful Queen, and to FINALLY see what happens once Alinthia has her awakening BUT I’m also not ready either. I do NOT want to say goodbye to these guys
Even if you aren’t a fan of sci-fi, this one is definitely worth giving a chance! I highly recommend the Alinthia Series!
