I enjoyed this latest and I believe last book in the Mayflower Brides series. Although it was harder to connect to the earlier books because of how far apart in time these stories are placed, this book was enjoyable all on its own. Previous characters are mentioned, but are not essential to the plot The characters were well developed on their own and I really enjoyed the setting of the Chisolm Trail. I felt like the romance could have been a little better developed, but all-in-all I really enjoyed this story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
So good!!! Another Daughter’s of Mayflower book! I love a good western romance complete with a cattle drive. How could things turn out so wrong when this cattle drive was to be so much fun for Eliza? This is a drive that changed her and her best friend Wyatt’s whole life.
A lot of action but also inspirational and intriguing. This is a stand-alone story in case you think you have to read the others in this series first. I don’t think you will want to miss this great book. I highly recommend this story that’s not easily forgotten. I’m still thinking of it and I finished 2 days ago.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
I adored the newest addition to The Daughters of the Mayflower series, The Chisolm Trail Bride. I loved Eliza from the start. It was wonderful watching her grow throughout the story. She was forced into an adventure she never thought she would ever experience. I enjoyed reading her interactions with Wyatt. They made the tale quite fun and entertaining.
I am giving The Chisolm Trail Bride five stars. I recommend it for readers who enjoy a quick and clean historical fiction.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
This was a beautiful story of childhood love. Eliza and Wyatt were best friends, always getting into trouble together and enjoyed star gazing. They go on one Chisholm Trail ride together as children. Also present is Ben, the spoiled son of a Judge. He sets his sights on Eliza, even though she is far too young to marry. When a murder occurs during that trail ride, with only Wyatt and Ben as witnesses and suspects, they each say the other committed the crime. Justice is served swiftly and Eliza mourns losing her best friend, Wyatt, for many years.
Fast forward to nine years later…Ben still has plans to marry Eliza and make a name for himself in the government and nothing will stand in his way. Eliza’s father forbids it because he knows what happened on that trail ride so long ago. Will Ben succeed in his quest or does God have other plans for Eliza?
I really enjoyed this book as it had a bit of a different storyline than most historical love stories. I received a copy of this book from Barbour Publishing through NetGalley. All opinions in this review are my own.
This book begins when Eliza is twelve. What happens on the Chisholm Trail when she’s 12 affects the rest of her life. Wyatt has been in love with Eliza all his life. Eliza is very strong willed and determines that she is going to marry someone her dad disapproves of. Her dad sends her away from the ranch and hires a private security firm to keep her safe and her boyfriend away. This is the adventures of Eliza as she discovers what true love is. Also, the dangers that she encounters along the way.
I was given this book by Barbour Books via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
This was an amazing book that was hard to put down. It was full of action and intrigue that kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were unforgettable and well developed. Eliza was a strong independent woman that went against her parents’ wishes and became engaged to a man that her father did not approve. Her father wanted her away from her fiance and had provided security to see that he stayed away. John Brady is the head of Eliza’s security. He is a loyal man with a mysterious background. Eliza is pulled into a situation that puts her and her family in danger. The plot twists and secrets come unveiled. Eliza and her security guard must find a way through the dangers. Only with God’s help are they able to overcome the dangers they find themselves in. This book was filled with dangers, action, and intrigue. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves historical fiction with romance, action and suspense.
I received a complimentary copy from Barbour Books through NetGalley. This is my honest and voluntary review.
What an interesting story! From adventures on a cattle drive to the possibility of finding true love, the author takes the reader on a great journey. I enjoyed this one. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
When I first started this book I thought I had read it before but knew that couldn’t be true. But, that only lasted a couple of pages and then I knew for sure this was a new book and that I was going to really enjoy it. It was a book that I finished quickly because I enjoyed it.
Kathleen YBarbo is an excellent writer and this book was no exception. The story started with a bang and it kept my interest throughout. It is a continuation of Daughter’s of the Mayflower series and I highly recommend this. That may be why the beginning seemed familiar, it may just be her style. If so, I do enjoy her writing.
The characters were believable, the story was also. The flow was good and the characters were well developed.
The editing and proof reading were well done also, even though it was an ARC book and converted to a Kindle edition I didn’t have trouble reading it.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 star rating and would recommend it to my friends. I am thankful to Netgalley and Barbour Publishing for giving me a chance to read and review this book. The thoughts and review are my own opinion and not required, freely given.
4.5 Stars
Kathleen Y’Barbo wrote one of my favorite books in the Daughters of the Mayflower series way back when it started (The Pirate Bride), so it’s fitting that the series ends with another book from Y’Barbo that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Wyatt and Eliza are childhood frenemies but one night on the Chisholm Trail ended their friendship rather abruptly. Nine years later, Eliza is pursued (romantically speaking) by one of the instigators of the events that happened on the trail.
I’m a huge fan of friends first romances and the elements of family, danger, and intrigue just added more aspects to like about The Chisholm Trail Bride. If you’ve missed out on the series (or if you were waiting for it to be completed before picking up the first book), now is the time to dive in and discover a little history along with the great stories told in each of these books.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Love this book….couldn’t put it down. Haven’t read the series but this can be read as a standalone also.
Eliza and Wyatt are two childhood friends who get eachother in trouble. Till they go on the Chisholm Trail and both their lives are changed forever. Fast foreward some years Eliza is old enough to settle down and marry. She chooses a man…wrong choice in her fathers eyes and she’s sent to see her mothers family for some time away to think about her husband choice. While she’s with her family her father has security to watch her & her mother while in the city. Long and behold one of Eliza’s security seems oddly familiar but she doesn’t know why. Eventually their working together to get Eliza out of a mess that she didn’t cause. Read to find out what happens…It won’t disappoint!!!!

Kathleen Y’Barbo’s, “The Chisholm Trail Bride” is another Wonderful Story, in the multiauthor, Action/Adventure, Christian, Romantic Suspense, “Daughters of the Mayflower” Series!
What Won’t Wealthy, Entitled, Politically Ambitious Ben do to make/keep Eliza his Wife?
Eliza’s Father is a wealthy Texas Rancher. Her parents works hard to keep her away from Ben. They hire Wyatt’s Detective Agency to keep Eliza “safe”. But they’re also keeping a secret from Eliza, that leaves them vulnerable to Ben’s Schemes.
Wyatt has ed Eliza since she was a , but his secret, keep him from being able to act on it. He does his best, to protect her from Ben. Yet Ben is able to trick Eliza into a supposed marriage!
Will Eliza be able to prove that she “never” married Ben? How does Wyatt help her do this? Will Eliza grow to Wyatt? Will Ben use Wyatt’s and Eliza’s Parent’s Secret against them? How does God bring Eliza & Wyatt to their HEA ? I Highly Recommend You Read this, Exciting, Engrossing, Entertaining, and Inspirational Story to find out!
Another great book in Brides of the Mayflower series. As most of the others were of a different time in history, this one is a western. This book has all the romance, adventure, action with strong characters that held my attention, making this a very enjoyable read for me. The author did her research well as there really was a Chisholm trail and I am sure there were many romances and marriages associated with it and murders also as this book details. It was used for cattle drives on their way to market. Usually only men were on these trail rides but on this particular one the boss brought his daughter along. Get the book and read of Wyatt and Eliza’s love story and the Chisholm trail…….I was granted an advance copy by the publisher Barbour Books, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
“Her heart had been broken on that trail. Completely and forever broken.”
Having talked her father into letting her accompany him on a cattle drive up the Chisholm Trail, Eliza Gentry is inconsolable after a terrible shooting incident took away her best friend one starry night in Texas. Wyatt Creed was always daring her, teasing her, taunting her, but he would come to her defense when it mattered the most, how could he have made such a terrible mistake?
Years later, as Eliza considers her future, family friend Ben Barnhart is determined to make her his wife. What lengths will Ben take, and who will Eliza’s father call upon to keep Eliza safe?
An intriguing story, for sure!
Kathleen Y’Barbo’s The Chisholm Trail Bride is the latest installment in the Daughters of the Mayflower series. This series is a unique one, as each book is written by a different author and covers a new aspect of American history. In this particular book, we find ourselves on the rugged Chisholm Trail well over a hundred years ago. And it is in this setting that our characters take center stage. In a series of twists and turns, our hero and heroine must fight for justice, search for truth amid seemingly insurmountable odds, and reach a point of peace with their pasts. A sense of mystery tugs you from beginning to end as tension rises and falls in perfect harmony.
This book is a quick and enjoyable read, full of vivid descriptions, emotional tug of war, and memorable characters. Lovers of American history will be delighted in this one!
I received this book from Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Twelfth in the Daughters of the Mayflower series, I enjoyed visiting Texas and the Chisolm Trail in 1880 and 1889. This is an excellent read that only gets better throughout. The characters are well-defined, the drama and intrigue keep my attention, and thinking about being a teen on a cattle drive in the old west was exhilarating. This continuation of the Gentry family I met in The Alamo Bride was a nice addition to this family descended from Spanish nobility, Texas pioneers, a pirate – and a Mayflower passenger!
Eliza was twelve when she was allowed to go on her last cattle drive; Papa insisted she have one more year before she has to become the young lady her mother expects. Little did she know that it would be the one to change her life. She lost her best friend, Wyatt, in a tragedy that should have never occurred to any 14-year old. Only Papa knew the whole truth of that long-ago night. I like who Eliza was, almost a teen and a tomboy who loved being on the ranch, riding horses, watching the stars and looking for comets.
Life for women in the late 19th century seemed to break many spirits and force them to fit into the mold of fine society. Eliza grew into a young woman who still loved the ranch, riding horses, and watching the stars. She wanted to go to college and be an astronomer, and her parents told her the priority was to get married and start at family. Eliza was still headstrong, at least when it came to avoiding parties, riding horses, and watching the skies. At 21, however, Eliza agreed to marry Ben Barnhart, whose father was an influential judge in Texas. They knew each other since childhood; she always she said she would never marry him. So why did she agree, at least until her father hired security detectives to keep Ben away from her while she and Mama went to visit family in New Orleans? One detective rescued her from Ben when he slipped into the masked ball and tried to take her with him.
Just when it seemed she came to her senses and they returned to Texas, Eliza disappeared one night, only to claim to be married to Ben the next morning. Ben showed a marriage license to her father, who said she could never return home again. When Ben showed Eliza the marriage license that she had never signed and told her the reason he used to get her to pretend to be married to him was a trick to get the deed done, she was horrified. Something had to break this sham marriage. Only one man might be able to help her now.
At times she was careless with her own safety, but overall, I liked Eliza. Her pa spoiled her, but he amended that after the tragic cattle drive. Were she in another part of the country, I could see her as a suffragist or even the astronomer discovering a new comet. She had a loving heart and was creative with getting her young cousin Justine to go on an adventure. There is great heartache and joy, intrigue, and breathtaking suspense. The ending in some ways was not a surprise as there was much that I guessed along the way, but it was still very satisfying. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys western historical fiction that sweeps from the Chisolm Trail to the finest homes in New Orleans, with faith in the Lord and the potential for romance.
From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this from the publisher through NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
A cattle ride to remember
This lovely story takes us to Texas, far from the shores where the Mayflower landed. Someday I am going to start back at the beginning of the Daughters of the Mayflower series and enjoy reading how the stories all go together. The Gentry Ranch is home to Eliza, her parents and several brothers, plenty of cowboys and a great number of cattle. Spring finds many ranchers moving their cattle to market along the Chisholm Trail. The mystery begins and eventually ends on this trail, but what happens in between is not to be missed.
Not known for her decorous actions, Eliza is just a treat to follow and enjoy. A sham marriage, kidnapping and danger do not deter her from what she believes is right. I highly recommend this well written story in the ongoing saga of the families that arrived those many years earlier.
A copy of this book was received through Barbour Publishing and NetGalley. My impressions and comments were in no way solicited.
“…but this is 1889 and a woman’s place is not with a rifle in one hand and a saddle in the other.”
–Susanna Gentry, Eliza’s mother
Steeped in rich Texas history, this adventurous story offers romance, intrigue, and a bit of danger. Ranches, cowboys, and cattle drives bring this story to life. Eliza Gentry has disagreed with her mother’s philosophy on being a lady since she was old enough to get around outside and follow her brothers and dad around the ranch. Spirited and outspoken, Eliza wants nothing more than to get an education and study the stars.
Spoiled and rich Ben Barnhart has his eyes set on Eliza and wants to marry her. Only problem with Ben is that William Gentry, Eliza’s father wants nothing to do with anyone named Barnhart. In an effort to make sure Ben Barnhart gets nowhere near his daughter, Mr. Gentry hires the John Brady Detective Agency to guard his daughter.
Eliza finds Mr. John Brady to be a bit of a mystery. Something about him seems remotely familiar, but she can’t seem to place him. Follow the adventures that lead Eliza into serious trouble and John Brady to the rescue. As secrets are uncovered and the truth reveals itself, can Eliza forgive the man she knows as John Brady?
This twelfth book in the Daughters of the Mayflower series is as good as the very first one. Don’t miss this fun read!
This ARC copy was received from Barbour Books and Netgalley.com. The above thoughts and opinions are wholly my own.

I am a Texas girl, so I love books set in Texas, and this author had me hooked with the first sentence. Eliza is an independent girl who loves the stars that she sees along the Chisholm Trail, and is resistant to her parents’ attempts at matchmaking. No one lives up to her childhood friend, Wyatt. I loved this story but don’t want to say too much about it for fear of giving something away. I would recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
The title doesn’t say enough about this well written and entertaining book taking place in the 1800’s! There are many adventures taking place in this one book that kept me awake a couple of nights since it was hard to put down. Kathleen Y’Barbo is such a good writer using historical facts as her background weaving them throughout her books, this one included.Going on the Chisholm Trail is how this started outwith Eliza Gentry a young girl being allowed to join for the first time with her father’s group. Eliza was a huge fan of studying the sky, the stars at night especially, but then a tragic thing happened on the trail that changed several lives forever.Later on, as a beautiful woman, Eliza is chased by a egocentric man who want to run for office and eventually run for the White House. He wants her to marry him but she is turned off by him and wants nothing to do with him. That didn’t stop him. He pursues and tricks her into marrying him but she runs away to get help.I really recommend this book, it’s that good!I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.
Excellent addition to the Daughters of the Mayflower series! The story reads quickly and easily, likely because the characters were so well written! Eliza loves her family, deeply and fiercely, but she also values her freedom and independence. Determined that her way is better, she makes a reckless decision that sets the ball rolling to steep consequences. Years ago, another reckless decision mapped a new life course for all involved. When these paths of consequences converge, no one is left out and justice will be served. A must read for fans of this series, although it also stands alone as a great book. A well written clean, historical, inspirational romance.
