The acclaimed artist Brom brilliantly displays his multiple extraordinary talents in The Child Thief—a spellbinding re-imagining of the beloved Peter Pan story that carries readers through the perilous mist separating our world from the realm of Faerie. As Gregory Maguire did with his New York Times bestselling Wicked novels, Brom takes a classic children’s tale and turns it inside-out, painting … it inside-out, painting a Neverland that, like Maguire’s Oz, is darker, richer, more complex than innocent world J.M. Barrie originally conceived. An ingeniously executed literary feat, illustrated with Brom’s sumptuous artwork, The Child Thief is contemporary fantasy at its finest—casting Peter Pan, the Lost Boys, even Captain Hook and his crew in a breathtaking new light.

Brom is an award winning artist. He does a lot of dark fantasy paintings. His work is amazing to look at. He does a fair bit of work for my previous employer and had met him several times. When I saw that he had a novel out I bought it. It is a story of Peter Pan. As I expected, the story is dark, very dark. And very good. If you like dark, almost …
This is a really good take on Peter Pan. It’s a dark retelling of the fairy tale
Quite twisted but left me wanting more
This is an absolute must read for fantasy fans. Avoid if you have a weak stomach and an aversion to violence. Dive in if you love a blood and guts adventure that will take you to places you’ve never been.
Brom’s retelling of Peter Pan is a thoroughly enjoyable, grown-up variation of the tale. I highly recommend reading the physical book to get the full benefit of the author’s impressive, full-page, full-color illustrations. I have never been a fan of the Peter Pan story, but I am a huge fan of this book!
This book! Even after a couple of years having read it, it is still one of the first books i reccomend to anyone looking for an excellent off the charts read!!!
A very dark retelling of Peter Pan, whic takes place in current time.
Fascinating read – a dark version of Peter Pan for adults.
First of all, this book was WAY different than what I was expecting. It was longer, darker, and much more full of adult themes and swearing than I thought it would be. So, if you’ve a child or teen who is into Peter Pan and wanting to read this book, I’d suggest at least a quick skim before you decide if that’s appropriate. Since I am not a child …
Hard to read, I couldn’t get through it. Characters were not interesting enough for me.
What the hell ?!? This is not your daddy’s Peter Pan ! It’s a great read with a lot of action. It’s pretty dark and violent. The story builds the island around the characters like no Pan you’ve ever seen before. Great action.
I’ve jus started it but love it already…a twist on the Disney Peter Pan…can’t wait to read more.
