Return to the origins of the Victorian-era sleuthing couple with the first three mysteries in the “unfailingly rewarding” New York Times–bestselling series (The New York Times Book Review). “For nearly four decades Anne Perry’s riveting detective novels have played out against the backdrop of the Victorian era” (The Washington Post). Now in a single volume, readers can enjoy the “exemplary … volume, readers can enjoy the “exemplary Victorian company” of this incomparable pair of sleuths in their earliest adventures (The New York Times).
The Cater Street Hangman: In the series debut, Inspector Thomas Pitt seeks an elusive strangler among upper-class British society, with the help of the outspoken Miss Charlotte Ellison, whose maid fell prey to the killer. As their relationship shifts from antagonistic sparring to romantic sparks, the socially mismatched pair must solve the mystery before the hangman strikes again.
Callander Square: As her husband investigates the discovery of two dead infants found buried in an elegant square in London, a pregnant Charlotte uses her social status to gain access to the parlors and inner chambers of the fashionable neighborhood. With the help of Charlotte’s sister, Emily, Lady Ashworth, who lives on Callander Square, the sleuthing couple attempts to unearth secrets a seemingly upright aristocrat would kill to keep.
Paragon Walk: When Charlotte’s brother-in-law, Lord George Ashworth, becomes a suspect in an unspeakable crime committed on the posh London street of Paragon Walk, she must balance supporting her sister, Emily, with assisting Thomas in exposing a monster cloaked in gentleman’s clothing.

Terrific series centering around Charlotte and Thomas Pitt and their adventures in London. Interesting the class difference and how it was readily accepted. Gives the reader a good picture of Olde England.
The beginning of a great series.
This series of books are so interesting that I’ve been following them from the very beginning and never seem to tire of the characters or the stories. Anne Perry has created true to life characters that you would like to meet and the historic twists and turns that affect the investigations and society of that period just add to the attraction. Very good reading.
I absolutely love the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt novels. Have several in my library!!
I read these book many years ago. It’s lovely to find a ‘boxed set’ and be able to revisit Thomas and Charlotte in their first mysteries. The mysteries are as interesting now as before, and the historical setting feels very real.
If you have never read Anne Perry books you have a real treat in store. I would recommend starting at number one in both the series that she has penned to understand the way that the characters are developed – you won’t be sorry. The characters proceed & develop from volume to volume, engaging your interest until you can’t wait for the next publication. A thoroughly enjoyable progression.
I liked it, but then I enjoy novels set in Victorian England.
Great story line with intrigue til the end. Wonderful characters.
I really enjoyed these books and will continue to read the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mysteries.
This author never disappoints
I love these characters. They are clnsistent and grow with acg story. The portrait od Victorian England is realisgtic, very beliecable
It is a great three series of her first three books. I recommend anyone who likes and Perry to read the series!
I thoroughly enjoy the blend of mystery and a view of social mores in this time period. The characters are believable and I’ve grown to really like them.
A modern woman in Victorian England and her clever inspector-husband solve crimes despite class discrimination. There are both lovable characters and haughty, detestable rogues along the way. PBS could produce a great series from these stories.
This series is the BEST!
This was a marvelous series; the early books established a world and point of view. Although mysteries, there are also novels.
Love, love these characters and the accurate depiction of Victorian-era England.
Loved all three in the series. Great characters. I like reading mysteries written in this period. Great will probably read more out of the series.
Wonderful series set in the 1880s. While some dialogue is stilted, as the times calls for, the writing is very fluid and interesting.
Excelkent & interesting history details.
